Where to Eat During Napa Valley Restaurant Week | Eater SF

"Known for training some of the world’s top chefs, it’s a safe bet that the Culinary Institute of America can whip up a killer meal. Located at the institute’s new downtown Napa campus, The Restaurant at CIA Copia is adding on a bonus course to both its lunch and dinner Restaurant Week menus. The $20 three-course lunch will feature a simple salad, a housemade pappardelle with mushrooms and sherry cream and then tiramisu for dessert. The $46 four-course dinner gives you a choice for each course. Will you order spicy mussels or Italian staple cacio e pepe? Fisherman’s Stew or vinegar-braised chicken? Tip: Bring a friend, and you can try it all."

We sat on the patio and loved our brunch. The service here is friendly and very attentive. The food is absolutely delicious. We had the smoked trout Benedict and the king salmon latka along with a few pineapple mimosas. The atmosphere here on the patio is best described as serene. And, after brunch, our server suggested that we might wish to take our drinks and walk around the herb gardens. We chose to sit in the comfortable sofa and sip our drinks. The best part of the patio was the fact that we’re not overlooking a parking lot. Lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Very highly recommended!

This was a beautiful location by the river. A large mural welcomes you to the CIA, followed by an introduction to a vegetable garden before you come to The Grove. We had the pork blt, latke and pancakes. The vegetables were so crisp and fresh. The natural flavors popped out. The pork was so tender and delicious. Would highly recommend coming here.

Cannot say enough good things! The tasting menu is a fantastic bang for your buck. You start with the house mad bread - which is warm and fresh. The salad is simple, it’s just lettuce and herbs they pick at the institute. I did not particularly care for the mint in the salad, and the dressing is a bit acidic but nice. For pasta, my friend had the carrot gnocchi which she said was the best pasta she’s ever had. I had the carbonara, which was very good, but the pancheta was a bit hard. The meatballs and rockfish were superb. We were barely able to eat desert, but we pushed on and enjoyed the cheesecake and the chocolate torte. We left very satisfied. Staff were so welcoming and kind! The pace of the food was perfect. The restaurant was comfortable and had very cool art. Would absolutely return!

Was here for Valentine’s Day long weekend and came here after reading some good reviews. It is a nice location by the bank of the Napa River and next to the Oxbow Public Market. The service is good and the place exudes a calm sophisticated ambiance. The garden/farm outside adds a nice touch. The weekend we were there the restaurant only offered a prix fixe menu which was a little disappointing as we were looking for a little more variety. Nevertheless the choices all looked decent. The bread was good, and the salad tasted very fresh. The salami was so-so. We tried all 3 types of pasta and they were all fine. None of the protein add-ons (mushroom, clams, ribeye) sounded great so we didn’t order those. The dessert (layered chocolate cake) was not great. Overall an enjoyable experience with food selection/quality below expectation.

Google
Good fine dining experience. Open, well lit modern layout with a tiny, full bar, and a good, local wine list. Service was friendly, though a visible kitchen staff was just standing, looking bored with her pinky in her mouth. The Foccacia was had interesting flavors. The Gnocchi with Oxtail Ragu had good flavor but was chewy.

Nestled very close to downtown Napa, the Groove truly embodies the farm-to-table concept, and it does so with remarkable flair. From the moment you step inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere sets the tone for a delightful dining experience. The menu is a celebration of local produce, featuring ingredients sourced from their own garden. Each dish is a testament to the freshness and quality of the ingredients used. Service was implacable as well! Overall, The Groove is a gem for anyone who appreciates delicious, wholesome food with a commitment to sustainability. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this restaurant is a must-visit for a satisfying dining experience!

Came for brunch and WOW, so worth it! We tried a lot of things. The brioche was out of this world. My jammy eggs had the best sauce that I borrowed my husband’s bread to mop up. Service was friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our mimosas. Such a treat!

Yelp
Me and my bff dined here during the March 2024 Women's History Month chef alumni series, featuring Laura Ozyilmaz. 3 Courses for about a little over $100 pp including tip and tax, $90 base rate (we prepaid). She owns Dalida in SF and is currently a star on Top Chef this season. We met her briefly and she was nice. The food was so delicous, it was served family style and the portions were big! We couldn't finish everything, and was able to take leftovers. We sat at the bar where the open kitchen was, the chef closest to us was kind and friendly. Service was amazing. Good ambience. Great food. Conveniently located right by Oxbow Market. Copia seems like a fun space, there was a museum upstairs that we didn't get to check out. The outside features a garden that the restaurant takes produce from. It was nice to walk around there before our meal. There's a bar/lounge right next to the restaurant. Would like to come back to try their regular menu. Fun and warm experience. Would recommend.

Yelp
I want to preface this review saying that if it feels like I keep going back and forth, it was because I was using the time between courses to write the review, and different paragraphs for different topics. While dining here for mother's day dinner, we experienced a rather less than exceptional meal. The pre fixed menu was expected as it was a special occasion. I would think they would use this type of menu to help with times between courses, but whole writing this review we are currently sitting in a 50 minute wait between the appetizer and the pasta selection. With that in mind, this is a four course meal, so I'm am hoping that the wait between the pasta and main course is shorter, or that the pasta and the main course come out at the same time. Alternatively, the server has been great and so far the food is good, but the long wait times are bringing the experience way down. I look around and see other tables also waiting for their food, almost as if all of the portions are being cooked at the same time to serve us all in one go. Now just finishing the pasta course it is 7:05 pm I will say on the flavor front of the meal they get the full star for. As always their food here is always so full of flavor and sometimes even gives vibes from Ratatouille where the flavors play a melody in your mouth as you eat them. The Gnocchi was full of flavor and at a good temperature, while the tortellini also had a nice flavor but the temperature was lukewarm. As for the main course thankfully it arrived slightly earlier, 20 minutes after finishing the pasta course. The roast was also full of flavor and on par with what I would expect. Temperatures of the food were slightly low, but not to the point of sending back to be reheated. Again, I look around and see that many of the tables are experiencing the same LONG wait times for the food. Now I have just finished the dessert and again, many wonderful flavors that they mail. The wait time between main course and dessert was the shortest as I believe they have the desserts pre made in the back. I asked our server what the issue may be that the wait time is so long and the response was that there is only four chefs serving for the whole restaurant. Another thing we noticed while dining was that other tables that came in after us were served before us. This was somewhat understandable as the table behind me is a table of two, while our group is a table of six. Another thing that stood out was that the manager hasn't come over to our table yet to explain the situation, I had to ask the server myself what what happening. Perhaps at some point of this meal this may change, but so far no luck. It is just after the main course and still he hasn't come by. I don't think I could recommend coming here for a special event. I know that they can do better since I have been here on a normal night with great food great service and a nice time. I feel bad for the wait staff as they do feel bad about this experience, but unfortunately there is nothing that they can do. Perhaps if a manager would come around to the table it may be another story. Also at $75 per person the price was above what our experience was. Finally, the total time of the meal: we were seated at 5:20 and just paid at 8:00.

Yelp
What a wild ride eating here can be. Another reviewer wrote that this is a dining experience akin to "Russian roulette" and there's no other comparison. My experience recently was hands down great, and I was nervous it would just be mediocre. Service was wonderful, our server knew the menu inside and out and was impressed with her ability to handle questions around ingredients preparation and wine choice. Vibes and ambiance are pretty classic and modern. It's a very open kitchen which could be neat to sit at with the tables nicely organized to accommodate bigger parties if you have one. Food was where things shined. I had eaten also recently at the CIA in St. Helena and had atrocious soggy French fries, but the food at dinner at the Grove was very good. Started with the bone marrow which was nicely seasoned but hard to handle (would like the bone to be split the other direction). For entrees, my table shared four. Steak - nicely seasoned and cooked to a slightly above medium. Rockfish - Although only a few clams are included, the sauce/broth was amazing. Carbonara - Pork was crispy and nicely peppery Lions Mane Mushrooms - This was a standout in that they are prepared with Beets and basically would fool any meat eater Overall, my party was incredibly happy and pleased that we took the risk!

Yelp
Food was very well presented and delicious. This restaurant is tucked into a strippish kind of mall right by the downtown and Napa Train. It is also part of the culinary institute of America (CIA). Service was excellent, frequent and quick. Though they did seat us closer to our reservation time even though half of the restaurant was empty. May have been kitchen constrained.

Yelp
Overall, a solid dinner spot if you are in the area. The space is beautiful and modern and there is plenty of parking. I loved the artwork and the ambiance. Menu changes regularly so you know its going to be fresh. Service had its ups and downs. We never had to ask for water refills and generally very attentive service with people checking in; however our waitress didn't seem very knowledgeable on the menu. Presentation of the food is beautiful. We tried the scallop crudo and pesto gnocchi for starters. I am a huge fan of scallop sashimi so I enjoyed the crudo and the nice touches of flavor with he pickled radish and garlic chips on top. The pesto gnocchi has a nice twist with the spinach verbena sauce which was a nice base and the whole dish tasted super fresh. For my entree I got the chicken leg cacciatore paired with a semolina porridge. Chicken was cooked nicely with good flavors throughout but I was excited as chanterelles were listed as an ingredient but I could not distinguish it in the sauce. I also didn't think the olives suited the dish. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, you will likely be disappointed. Alum and students of the Culinary school work here and it seems like this place is a work in progress and fairly inconsistent. Had a nice meal here though nothing blew me away.

Yelp
So I am not a fan of writing bad reviews. And especially of a restaurant that seems to double as a school. But last night was rough. Like most people, I want to give props where they are due. I realize this is a hard job. I have even done most of the mid to low level tasks as a restaurant employee. Ill admit, I sucked at it, and it was difficult. Right upfront, when I started to complain about the various things that were wrong about the place, the staff seemed very aware, and were super apologetic. for me this is why I gave 2 stars, because accountability is so rare and appreciated these days. The waitstaff were definitely aware of the problem, and they felt bad for it. so the bad: We were seated at 5:35, and finally paid at 8:38. That feels really long with a 4 course. We didn't get our first course till nearly 7. Each course that came out had varying issues. Artichokes were kind of bland, and not super memorable. I could smell the fishy-ness of the scallops 10 feet from the table...the taste wasn't much better. My wife's rock fish was salted to death, and cold, while my porchetta was dry, cold, and mostly bland. Our desserts were not well thought out, and not particularly good. oddly hard to eat, and sorta tasted stale. When I went to finally urge someone inside to get us our check as the temp outside had dropped 20 degrees, it seemed like the "machine" was breaking down inside. I would be able to forgive all of this....and I do mean all of it, if they had at least given us a bit of a break on the bill. I get that these are students, and they are learning, but we ended up with a near $200 bill. Im all for creating a real world environment that students can learn in, but just don't charge $75 per person. I unfortunately cant recommend. It seems that since this was mothers day, maybe they got swamped, it didnt look that busy, but maybe it was. Other posters here have said quite the opposite on regular nights. All I can say is last night was pretty bad.

Yelp
The outside dining atmosphere was good, the food and service was 2 stars. It's probably not the place for me as the menu was predominately vegetarian. But then again they change the menu almost daily. My pasta was lukewarm at best. The problem is they brought dinner for four of us right on time, while the other two got theirs 20 minutes later with no explanation! I was practically done with my meal before they got theirs. There were maybe five tables sat in the whole place. On top of that my sister's food was burnt and black again without explanation. Once notified the manager came out and gave a short apology and walked away. Another 20 minutes before it was replaced. It was obvious the server didn't tell the manager that it had already been delayed in the first place. Forty extra minutes just to get our food with very little consideration from the staff. We decided not to ask for something in return and just wrote it off as a bad experience. They seemed content to offer little service and expect full pay plus tip, which we did. There are plenty of other better experiences in Napa, obviously.

Yelp
Went to The Grove during Restaurant Week with another couple. Reservation was for 7 pm on a week night for a table of 4. The experience was largely a 'miss' on many counts, although there were some 'hits'. 'Miss': - Service was weak. - Staff was so inexperienced that we had to constantly remind them to bring the wines with our wine paired meal. - Appetizer (salads) took 45 minutes to be served. - We had to remind them that we ordered the bread. Bread came when we were on our last bites of the salad. - Ribeye was very tough and my husband gave up. Not the best cut of beef for sure - This 3 course meal took almost three hours because of the terrible pacing and service missteps. 'Hit': - Baby gem salad with anchovy and Caesar dressing was very tasty - Rockfish and Manila clams was done nicely and seasoned well I've been to the restaurant before and have never had such a disappointing experience. Clearly Restaurant Week last week was not a showcase of their best food or service. What a shame.

Yelp
came here today for brunch! there were 8 of us and it was everyone's first time here. we had a reservation at 1PM--my entire party didn't arrive at the same time but we were able to order drinks at the bar and sit at our table in the meantime. we were able to get a table outside, despite not making a request online to have outdoor seating (i also wasn't aware we had to make a request for that lol!). the outdoor seating was nice, our table had plenty of shade. no complaints here! service was a 10/10! our server was attentive and the hostess was amazing and accommodating! everything was wonderful. i had a couple of drinks and the chicken and waffle as my entree. we also ordered all of the brunch apps for the table. overall, i had a nice experience! if i'm ever in napa again i'd love to come back during a time other than brunch.

Yelp
We found this place based on a recommendation from a random person we were sitting next to at an event and I couldn't be happier that we found it! We actually visited twice during our trip since it was so close to where were staying because we wanted to try both brunch and dinner! This was the first place we stopped when we rolled into Napa. After a very long morning of travelling, it was a welcome sight. I ordered the quail & waffles (a spin on chicken & waffles) and my hubby ordered the wagyu burger. Both were awesome- the quail was so super tender and fell off the bone and the rye waffle has this amazing spice that was so perfect for the cold winter day. Absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices as well. Considering it was in downtown Napa, they were very reasonable and the wine list pricing was incredibly fair for the items they had which was very surprising. The space is beautiful and there is art work all over the place. There's a little museum on the second floor that you can just walk into. If you get any wine with your meal or at the wine bar adjacent to the restaurant, you can walk around the whole building taking it all in which we thought was fun since we had some time to burn. A few nights later we opted to have dinner and it was just as great. My hubby had the rib eye and I had the short rib- both awesome in their own ways. Service was once again great, wines were reasonable- we had a great time. Since we were there celebrating my birthday they definitely made it special and went above and beyond. It was awesome. I would recommend this place to anyone who is in the area. The menu changes regularly (and they may also be out of things since everything is fresh) but it is absolutely worth your time to stop in.

Yelp
Upon entering the venue, very spacious. Ample parking and picturesque scenes. Had reservations.... Clearly can get busy especially on a Thursday night. Awesome service, love the menu options.... Courtesy champagne and the food comes out perfectly plated, temperature and flavors are on point. You can't go wrong with any of the orders..... whether it's a date night, family night or girls day out. A great place to try in Napa.

Yelp
My party of 8 had a reservation at 7pm, when they close, but realistically they just make sure they book last at 7pm. We were seated right away. Drink orders were taken, and then we ordered appetizers. The appetizer my husband and I ordered was the lamb ribs. And honestly 10/10, would come back just for those. They were hot and fall off the bone. They were delicious!! I was so sad there were only 4 pieces but again it's just an appetizer! We ended up order the dinner for two, which was the 24 hour Tri Tip with all three sides included for about $75. Which wasn't horrible but man, we had way more sides then the main entree. Which I was a little sad about but that's okay. The Tri tip was ok, wasn't mind blowing it was tender but wasn't like, wow would recommend this to everyone. The rib eye was better that our friends ordered. All in all, it was nice the place is amazing to look at. But the food wasn't the best for the price. The service was okay, they kept forgetting plates for our friends.. which sucked since one of their sides didn't come out till later in the meal.

Yelp
My husband and I did not expect dinner to be three hours long on a Sunday night as we had to drive back to SF. Our first course arrived past more than an hour of ordering and each course took just as long. Each dish had varying issues - everything was oversalted and not very good. The desserts were also underwhelming. We repeatedly asked the wait staff how long it would take for the next course since the general manager didn't even come around to our table to explain the situation. The wait staff, apologetic each time, informed us that the kitchen was having problems. The inside of the restaurant was not at full capacity, & there were only three small tables dining outside. It may have been that they were understaffed in the kitchen or overwhelmed. When my husband went inside to ask for the check, he noticed that the kitchen staff were clearly yelling at each other. Seeing all of the positive reviews previously, maybe it was just an off night for them. I understand that the food is prepared by students, but charging $75 per person is outrageous for a subpar dining experience.

Yelp
Food is beautifully presented and equally delicious! We ate our appetizers and mains before thinking to take photos of them. Definitely recommend the crispy skin duck!

Yelp
Colleagues and I attending a three day global plant forward summit at Copia. Had reservations for dinner on day 2 and it was highly recommended! Staff is made up of current and alumnae of the culinary institute of America! We had Alex (alum) who started off with our order and had another beautiful host (forgot her name - current student) take over after his shift! They were so friendly, personable and such great service which always Makes the dining experience that much more enjoyable. We decided to eat outdoors even though it was a bit nippy. They had the heating lamp on and also a fire pit next to our table. My two Colleagues ordered the salmon dish and I ordered the lemon pasta dish (don't remember the name) and both dishes fresh, clean and delicious. Beautiful presentation as well. We started off also with their beet salad which was perfect for three to share . I can't remember what the dessert was but pics of it - do remember that it was scrumptious Highly recommend when in Napa and also be sure to make reservations since it is a popular venue! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Went last Sunday to catch their brunch and again, they did not disappoint. First time was pre pandemic. My husband had the corned beef and I had chicken and waffles- both were delicious. This time me and my husband ordered the Eggs Benedict, my son and gf chix and waffles and portobello sandwich. The eggs Beni were delicious!! HOWEVER, it was just one half of an English muffin! I mean, I've never had a muffin with just one piece.. it felt very stingy and just wrong. Lol $20 for half an English muffin! I was still hungry after. I'll still go back even if I felt shortchanged and try something else. The experience was still great. The Grove- if you are reading this, pls just give the other half of the English muffin.

Beautiful location along the Napa valley river. Pliny the elder on tap. IYKYK. Really pleasant service at the bar. The lamb ribs were incredibly delicious and slid off the bone.

Yelp
So incredible! A real gem in the midst of wine country. I was completely blown away by the food, the ambience, and the stuff. I was lucky enough to enjoy a brunch in celebration of my birthday, and I definitely will be back soon! Notably, parking can be quite challenging, as there is one small, shared parking lot with other restaurants and businesses. If you are fortunate enough to get a parking spot in the lot, it's a short walk to the grove. Upon entering, you see the different establishments there, and you are surrounded by the beautiful garden full of fresh herbs, fruits, vegetables, and flowers. I really enjoyed watching the staff grab bunches of rosemary or fruits, and then seeing them show up on our plates! So fun. We started with a bagel and smoked salmon, which was a real treat! The bagel was not a traditional circle shape, but instead was very oblong and definitely sufficient to share between two people. We also enjoyed all the veggies that came on the plate together with the yogurt and sauce, including cucumbers, radishes, and more. The birria flatbread came next, and what a treat! The caldo/jus was so tasty we could have drank it from a cup. Between the beautifully cooke egg + meat, and the nice herbs and cheese and the jus for dipping... wow! So delicious! Really love the flatbread crust, too. We also had the burger, which our server said people rave about as being the best they have ever had. Not me. I thought the meat was underseasoned, and overall, the burger was fairly underwhelming. Would not recommend. We ordered the bread pudding / mock tres leches. It was dense and absorbed the English cream nicely. Very satisfying! Our server was great, too. She shared her opinions on the menu and told us about the grounds, the staff, the classes, and the tasting room. So glad, too. We sampled some great wines! Very much enjoyed.

Yelp
We wanted to try this restaurant from the moment we knew we were going to Napa, and it was totally worth it. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a wonderful outdoor area to walk around both before and after you eat. The food here is more expensive, but totally worth it. They offer "Feast" options, which serves 2 people, which we really liked! The have great appetizers - the crispy pork belly was delicious. The Grove bread was also wonderful, and the butter perfectly complimented it. So while the food was pricier, the taste, quality, and quantity more than justified it. Drinks here are great, and they also have a good wine menu. Would recommend coming here!

Yelp
Second visit. Fabulous from start to finish. Lamb riblets and gorgeous salad as appetizers, accompanied by their delicious bread. Salmon and duck entrees. Complimentary birthday, fizzie Italian white wine to start ( similar to a prosecco). Pinot noir was mind-blowing. The guy is a cheesecake connoisseur and was curious about this dessert offering at The Grove. Best cheesecake of my life. Perfect service. Delightful outdoor atmosphere.

Yelp
I liked the ambiance and the service on this restaurant. They offer a good balance of vegetarian options. The food came out in a timely manner. As an app, we got the fritto mixto. The menu said it was "for sharing", but it was a very small portion for the price. The contents of the plate could fill a small chips bag. Amount of serving aside, this was the BEST BITE of the night. The tempura was perfectly seasoned and crispy. Veggies were crips and flavorful. The mix included a citrus piece witch I believe was a kumquat. That bite was bitter and not the most pleasant. But my husband and I agreed we could eat a whole bowl of this fritters watching TV (minus the kumquat). For entree my husband got a soup. It was served with a bread like a reminiscent of onion soup. He would have preferred that if was served as a side as he doesn't like soggy bread. Flavor wise, it could have benefited from more seasoning. It was just okay. I ordered gnocchi. The portion was good. Texture was fine. But it was VERY SALTY! So, one bland plate and was extra salty. For dessert, I went with the vegan chocolate mousse. The presentation was very pretty, but it was SO HARD TO EAT. The quenelles on my plate were frozen HARD like rocks. Probably they pre-shaped them in advance. I had to wait a while to dig in, as the first time I tried scoop my sherbet, the quenelle almost flew away from the plate. Flavors were good and refreshing. My husband ordered an apple galette / tart tatin. It had a nice presentation, but the frozen cream shaped quenelle had a hair stand on it and the dough had a soggy bottom (UNDERCOOKED). So, we had to return it. In general, I had a better meal than my husband. I could return, but he is not very motivated to do so. We will see. If you visit early, take a few minutes to visit the kitchen utensils museum on top of the restaurant. It was very cool. It closes at 5pm.

Yelp
We enjoyed our Valentine's Day meals. I had spinach fettuccine which was tasty. Don't get a lot, but what I got was tasty. Other people in my party got the 4 course meal. Tasted the short ribs and my did it have great flavor! Ambiance was really nice.

Yelp
I think this restaurant was decently priced and had some good food. I ordered the duck entree and they gave a pretty good amount of duck. The duck fat fried potatoes were nicely done.

Yelp
5 stars all around for dinner at the Grove at Copia!! Came here for my brother in laws 30th birthday and it exceeded our expectations. My hubby and I ordered the feast which is a meal for two. Don't be fooled by the portion size. It looked small but filled us right up! Can't wait to come back again and eat more Persian rice!

Yelp
So grateful to Kelsey and CIA for hosting my Mom's 70th birthday. I was able to book the private dining room about 1-2 months in advance for Easter. Kelsey was responsive and helped me every step of the way. The dining room was very clean, bright and spacious. We were greeted and checked on several times. They were so friendly. Everyone complimented the food from the pancakes to the chicken and waffles to the burrata to choreg bread and more. Great food and service topped off being able to celebrate my mom's birthday...It was a beautiful day and I couldn't be happier with how the day went.

Yelp
We recently dined here with 2 friends on our trip to Napa. The food was delicious! We shared the TomaTruffle Cheese which was so good. My husband and I ordered the Braised Short Rib Genovese and the Potato Gnocchi. The short rib was so tender and juicy that I didn't even need a knife to cut it. The gnocchi was amazing - the best we've ever tasted. It must've been seared to foem a slight crust to seal in its yummy goodness! Our friend had one of the salads and the Roasted Steelhead Trout, which they enjoyed. They had recently changed the menu and I don't know how often they do, but I'm sure it's all delicious. We had arrived late due to our flight delay, but it was better because our waitress said it was really busy right before we got there. There were only a few other tables seated, so it was calm and pretty quiet. The outside was beautiful too. It was a great dining experience for us and the next time we're in Napa, we'll definitely eat there again.

Yelp
Four of us went to Copia a few weeks ago to celebrate at the end of a victorious week. The grounds are gorgeous, interesting and a very lovely place to sit for dinner, if you choose out of doors. We did. Our waiter was young and inexperienced - just what I would expect from a school, so no problem. The bartender couldn't come up with any but the most pedestrian mixed drinks, so that was unsatisfactory and the lemon drop I was given tasted like syrup. The appetizer was delightful. Then came the gnocchi, only one of two vegan options. In this day and age, more vegan options - even if only side dishes, would be welcome. The gnocchi looked like congealed dishwater, gray and slimy. The gnocchi itself was gummy, rubbery and not very flavorful. It was so bad, I had to write this review because when you eat at a lauded cooking school, where the cooks presumably are ready to wow the world, expectations tend to be higher than if you went to Chipotle. Next time, I'll go to Chipotle and not be disappointed.

Yelp
Good place to have a family brunch in Napa. Reservation is a must. Food is fresh and good but nothing spectacular when it comes to flavor. Menus are their take to classic know or popular dishes. Something to try if you are Looking for an upscale Al fresco brunch.

Yelp
I was going to give The Grove five stars, but the longer I waited for food, the less stars I wanted to give. I would give The Grove 4.5 stars for trying to redeem themselves. We came here for the Valentine's Day prix fixe dinner around 5 PM. Everything was going great at first. The first 3 courses came out quickly - within 30 min for all three. Then we get to the 4th course - the 72 hour short rib. We basically waited 1 HOUR for the short rib to show up. The last course was quick again. Our waiter, John, was great. I thoroughly enjoyed his service. He tried to make up for the extremely long wait by comping the wine pairing for the short rib, which was very sweet of him. Service overall was pretty great. Everyone made sure we always had water in our glasses. Empty dishes were always cleared quickly. I was actually impressed by the food. I liked every dish, even the dessert. Each dish's ingredient pairing with each other was well matched. Scallops ceviche and the halibut were probably my favorite - never thought halibut would go so well with hollandaise sauce. I wish the crab flavor stood out a little more in the endive Caesar salad, but I could definitely smell it. I've been to CIA Greystone's restaurant, and I'd have to say I liked this one's food more. Would recommend food, was not a fan of slow service.

Yelp
For culinary students, which were prepared and served, it was not bad and a great experience. Especially for people and those who are not used to this type of cuisine and experience. We were, my wife and I with our friends who are not hard to satisfy and enjoy the simple things in life, which is a good thing. We were in town for a short stay and weekend for wine tasting and some fun and ended up here for our last night's dinner out. This campus was not here when I went to culinary school, I know the East Coast schools are special and are revered. Anyway, a very short story I attended CCA in S.F. and was fortunate to grow up here in Napa. I love this place and have very fond memories and experiences shared with my parents and childhood friends. The menu is very short and simplistic and made to be easily prepared by future chefs. I hope and wish they achieve this and have success. The restaurant itself has a beautiful dining area with lots of open space and a bar area, including self-serve wine taps. Also, if it wasn't so late, I would have liked to explore the campus more, this maybe next time. The food was delicious and had great flavors, and the desserts were fantastic. We were offered sweet and spicy Thai pork ribs, their beet salad, and you can never go wrong with rib eye steak and frites. So, if you're in the area and want to experience a very nice ambiance and great service, please do so. Enjoy.

Yelp
Nice restaurant in Napa valley, that is at the Culinary Institute of America. The price fix menu was good. They have a Small garden on site, where they grow veggies to use.

Yelp
We were excited to try The Grove during Restaurant Week in Napa! The hostess that greeted and seated us was wonderful. The staff that followed to provide water, open and pour the wine that we brought, and take our orders was attentive and very friendly. The Roasted Sunchoke Soup appetizer we had came out quickly and was really great! The house was only half-full. The wait for our entrees was one of those during which you find yourself starting to wonder "shouldn't the food have been here by now?" The food did arrive of course. The lamb shank was perfectly cooked, but with only a pomegranate sauce and little spice it was a bit gamey and really lacking in flavor. The duck "leg" was in fact four 2" squares of sliced duck with very little spice. Heck the pasta had more flavor than the duck! I expected a duck leg, I got a pasta dish. The service got slower as the evening wore on. After we finished our entrees we didn't see anyone to even clear the dishes for at least 20 minutes! After the dishes were finally cleared it was another 10-15 minutes before our desserts arrived. 10 minutes after we finished dessert we had to flag our waiter to ask for the check, and it was another 10 minutes before the check arrived. I gave him my credit card immediately and waited yet another 10 minutes until the check came back. Adding insult to injury, their Restaurant Week advertising touted "free corkage" but reviewing the bill revealed a $20 corkage fee. The atmosphere is lively, though listening to the door between the dining room and the outdoor tables slam every minute or two got old. Overall I think this awesome location needs a management overhaul, after watching the very nice but unorganized staff for 2+ hours. With the right team steering the ship this place could be a goldmine.

Yelp
What a cute place! Our bachelorette group was seated to our table on time and were very excited to begin our evening dinner. But unfortunately, it took an unexpected 45 minutes to be even acknowledged by our waiter! I mean not even a "welcome". We were getting a bit antsy and we were all hungry. Finally after acknowledgement, we ordered but took another 45 for our main course to arrive. It had been an hour and half before we even got to eat our main meal after arriving!!! After finishing our meal, we waited another absurd amount of time for plates to be cleared and dessert to arrive. We had also ordered dessert when we ordered dinner but with how long they were taking we ended up having it packed up to go! No one really even apologized or comped anything! Sorry, this is my rant on how very unsatisfied we were with the service. Aside from service, the food was very good. I ordered the cauliflower entree which was huge!! Overall the flavor on florets was good but even more elevated with the rice served with it. It could have used a bit more sauce - I'd give it 7/10. The dessert, knunefe was my favorite part. Even though I ate it cold back at our Airbnb. The flavors and level of sweetness hit the spot. For how upscale this restaurant is supposed to be and expensive ($57 cauliflower!), we expected a significantly better service. Sadly, it was a so-so experience as the service really put a damper on our evening. On a brighter note, just from approaching the restaurant you can see it is a very farm to table restaurant. They have an edible garden out front to walk around and enjoy. The property is very Napa vibes.

Yelp
Booked and confirmed my birthday party for a group of 10. Less than 10 days from the dinner, we were advised that the restaurant had a buy out and cancelled our reservation. Super disappointed.

Yelp
The best valentines dinner ever! We spent the weekend in Napa and enjoyed a 4 course dinner at the Grove at Copia at the Culinary Institute of America. To drink, we ordered the Pink Roses cocktail & a Tuxedo Manhattan. From the vibes to the service, this truly was a magical night!

Yelp
Finally have the chance to try this place out! Located in downtown Napa and the location is easy to find. Plenty of parking spaces. The place ia huge and love seeing home grown veggies onsite. We asked our waitress for recommendations with the mixture reviews. 1) Grove bread with chef's cultured butter 3/5 - the bread is good, nothing special about it. Didn't like the cultured butter, would have preferred regular butter instead. 2) Heirloom Beets 5/5 - refreshing and flavorful must try for sure!! 3) Roasted Duck Breast 4/5 - tender and juicy with crispy skin. Well seasoned. 4) Sneak River Berkshire pork chop 4/5 - tender and juicy but a bit too much fat on it. Would have given a 5/5 if it wasn't for the extra fatty chunk. 5) Lime Panna Cotta 4/5 - smooth and silly. Taste is good. Would definitely come back in the near future! Excellent service!!!

Yelp
We had a 7:30 pm reservation after a day of wine tastings. We walked in and they seated us right away. The menu looked ambitious but poorly executed. The staff and service was great so I'm giving them 3 stars. If it was just on food alone, I would probably give them 2. We weren't very hungry so we decided to share one main and two apps. We ordered the fried quail and the crispy pork belly to start. Though the quail was fried perfectly but it lacked flavor. The mustard sauce that it was served with wasn't very complementary at all. The quail only tasted good bc of the actual quail flavor. The crispy pork belly was seasoned well and it was cooked well enough where the meat just falls apart. However, instead of it being oven roasted to achieve its crispness, it was flash fried. It took away the potential for a traditional crispy pork belly where the skin of the pork belly becomes crispy from the air flames and the fat of the pork just dissipates from the heat. So the consistency of each bite was similar to a glob of fat. We couldn't even finish it. For the main, we decided not to venture too much as the first two dishes just didn't quite get it on the bullseye. We opted for the New York strip with fries. Even though I asked for medium, the steak came out more of a medium well. The steak was sliced into 8 pieces and dusted with large grains of sea salt. You can taste the char from the boiler which was nice but I've definitely had better. We decided it to end it with panna cotta and didn't realize in the menu it said it was glazed with a guava shrub. When I smelled the sour taste, I thought it had gone bad so we returned it for another without the shrub. First of all, it didn't taste like guava. Second, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to add vinegar to panna cotta. Just bad combos all together. Probably wouldn't go back. There's many other better restaurants to try in that area.

Yelp
Lovely setting for brunch. Short list of non-egg entrees but had the Albacore tuna salad with fennel. My friend had the eggs Benedict. Eh maybe not trying again.

Yelp
Restaurant week in Napa. We picked here and so glad we did. Had the best dinner. I wasn't a believer but now i am. All parties must participate in Restaurant week. You can order additional. Our decision was if one person liked the fried buttermilk chicken than all of us must have it. So minority wins. Choice of soup, salad, or carrots. I had cesar salad. Others had honey carrots. Nothing is simple here. All ingredients came from organic farm or just outside. Don't have words to describe. You just have to get over here by January 29th. Weds through sunday. I loved everything. Their carrot dish had so much healthy ingredients. Sweetened Pineapple sauce on chicken was so delish. Yes chicken breast was dry but the sauce up it a notch. Mash potato was fluffy. Coleslaw with cabbage and broccoli slaw. The dessert was out of this world. The yogurt turned into a whipped chiffon. Sorry, again i cant describe but the taste was so good. Hats off to the dessert chef. Vegan valhona chocolate mousse was the other choice with refreshing sorbet, minty sprig and anise sprig. Eat with your palate! So good and satisfying at the same time. Lovely servers who were happy people! What a plus. Great atmosphere! Quiet and so enjoyable. Loved the company.

Yelp
We had a reservation at 7:30pm on patio. They called and asked us to move reservation up to 7:15 and we of course agreed. Unbeknownst to us, they moved us inside and wouldn't discuss that the reservation was moved. The patio was the entire reason we booked. Wasn't overly impressed and wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
Not sure why the reviews aren't better. The ambiance is lovely and the food is tasty! The only thing I probably wouldn't order again was the bread. Otherwise the cocktail (happy hour 3-6pm!), salad, steak, duck breast, elderflower vacherin, and mascarpone cheesecake were all delicious. (The couscous with the duck was admittedly a little bland). Service could have been a little more attentive but honestly was good enough.

Yelp
As a Napa Local, there are a few gems downtown where you can meet up with friends for a drink and a bite - and The Grove at Copia is one of them. The surroundings are lovely and the vibe is relaxed. We enjoy sitting at the bar and drinking seasonally inventive cocktails. Bonus - they have Happy Hour now with offerings on drinks and food with a special offer for Locals only. My favorite cocktail is the K's Serrano Shrub which was created by the cheerful bartender, Kristin. She is always warm and welcoming and is honestly the reason we keep coming back every week.

Yelp
I was really excited for restaurant week here again - I loved it last year but I was left underwhelmed. When choosing a wine, they had an extensive list of wines on sale but turns out most had already sold out (understandable but could've crossed things out on the menu). Next when asking for detail on the wine, we were told that these wines were on sale because they're not really selling them anymore and just want to get rid of them. When we tried our bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, we understood why you wanted to get rid of it. Could've been our taste and choosing a $15 bottle, but it was far more acidic than I like. The food was decent. I had the soup, which I really liked and my friend had the Caesar salad which was good, but he said didn't taste like Caesar really. For the entree, had the smoked prime rib with a twice baked sweet potato. The meat was good, although a little salty and very fatty. The sweet potato was good and had a nice kick to it but it was served in a regular potato that was lacking in texture and flavor. For the dessert, we had chocolate mousse that was served with a variety of flavors and textures. I loved the candy with black sesame seeds and the mousse was fantastic but it also had meringue and a sorbet. They were both tasty but the only serving utensil we were given was a fork, which made it hard to eat everything. I would probably try this place again, but it's no longer at the top of my list.

Yelp
Great food, service and ambience. Outside was beautiful as well. Loved the dessert. The duck was not my favorit. Devil egg and pasta were really good.

Yelp
Went to The Grove for Restaurant week. The pre fixe menu sounded decent and since it is supposed to be from CIA I had high hopes. Unfortunately, the experience did not deliver. I went with a friend and we ordered the Burrata ($18) It was bland and didn't come with any bread or crackers or anything. When we asked for something it was going to be an additional $9 for bread. What? $27 for burrata with bread? I also ordered a glass of wine when we ordered the burrata. It took over 30 minutes to get it and I had to ask again. Then we each had the Little Gem Salad with Caesar vinaigrette. This was just greens, one anchovy, and two croutons. Basic, nothing stood out except the croutons. We each ordered an entree. There were three choices for restaurant week. Our reservation was at 6:15 on a Wednesday and they were out of the Lions Mane entree already. Seems like the kitchen wasn't prepared since they weren't busy. So we ordered the Ribeye with red potato confit and the Rockfish with Clams. The Rockfish was overcooked and the sauce was simply salty butter. This was so salty I couldn't finish. The Ribeye was ok. No seasoning or horseradish or sauce. It was cold and it came with one potato that was cut in half. There wasn't any "confit" so I'm not sure what happened there. There was also some arugula tossed on the side. No dressing just arugula. Last course was dessert- we got the cheesecake and the chocolate torte. Both dishes looked beautiful. Really nice presentation. My torte was good, very rich so I couldn't finish. I didn't ask my friend about her cheesecake because at this point, I just wanted to leave since we'd been there for nearly 3 hours as the service was agonizingly slow. We asked for the bill and waited some more. We got it and it had an additional $24 added on for our desserts (which were supposed to be included in the pre fixe price) so we had to wait more for them to fix that. The server recognized that the experience/service was lacking but he only took $10 off the bill. It was still over $140 with tip for a lackluster meal. I'm not sure what happened. I really hoped for more but was sorely disappointed. It really missed the mark at every step from kitchen management, service, and food. The only compliment I can give is the bussers were on it! They were grabbing our plates the second we were done and were super professional and polite. I would have thought we were in a very high end restaurant based on the service from them.

Yelp
The fraudulently ran my $51 bill for $181.00...the bill was paid in full and my receipt shows $51.00... we left our Server over $60.00 on a $300 bill.. that is not ok and I'm disputing my whole bill .Then your close until Wednesday.... I will never come back. Parking Parking is horrible

Yelp
Arrived for dinner on an unseasonably cold evening. Thus, there was no outdoor seating and the inside seating was pretty much full. Our waiter arrived at our table maybe a tad late but the service throughout the meal was friendly and professional. I'd brought a bottle of red wine from my cellar and it was opened promptly to breathe whilst we ordered a couple of glasses of white to start. The wines were served appropriately. The menu here is focused on local ingredients/foods and creative presentation. Ordered two appetizers and two mains. All were expertly prepared and presented and all were delicious. I would highly recommend a visit to The Grove if you are in Napa!

Yelp
I had an incredible family dinner last night at the Grove. It was my nephews birthday. I love going out with the whole family because we order the menu and I get to sample everything. It was soooo good. Service here is great, they have an awesome selection of beer, wines, and mixed drinks. I enjoyed everything we ordered.
