Can On-Demand Hiring Apps Really Change How Restaurants Staff Up | Eater

"The manager of this Uptown Oakland franchise says a hiring app is indispensable to operations — he uses it seven nights a week to find dishwashers so trained staff can stay on their stations, and even threatened to quit when corporate suggested cutting local budgets for the service because he feared a morale collapse." - Kathryn Campo Bowen

Stockhome Launches Swedish Candy and Kebabs on August 1 - Eater SF

"The famous chicken-and-rice chain opens today in Uptown Oakland, in the former location of Locol (and Plum before it) at 2214 Broadway, bringing spicy AF red sauce to all the land. The grand opening events include some giveaways: Starting at 11 a.m. the first 50 customers get a free platter of gyro, falafel, chicken, and the sauces. The main draw, however, is the chain’s late night hours: it’s open til midnight Sunday through Thursday, and til 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday." - Ellen Fort

Halal Guys is Opening in Locol’s Former Uptown Oakland Space - Eater SF

"New York-founded Middle Eastern franchise Halal Guys has found fertile ground in the Bay Area, first arriving in San Francisco and Berkeley. It’s now bound for Uptown Oakland at 2214 Broadway, with plans to open this summer there in the former home of Plum Bar and the original location of Daniel Patterson and Roy Choi’s fast food business Locol. The Uptown Local closed in Summer 2017 with the team moving its focus to West Oakland and a new location there. Only time will tell if Halal Guys can succeed where Locol appeared to struggle." - Caleb Pershan

The place has a good location and a nice interior inside. The food was tasty but a bit not as expected. The staff did everything quickly and well

I used to work here and eventually became the GM. Had an amazing Team of many nationalities who worked well together. We topped every metric in Sanitation, Service, Food Quality, with great Customer Reviews. Then Alex arrived....(he is represented by the 4th photo). Note: Some of the images have been removed at the behest of Alex.

Came here after a concert. We were one of the last to come after concert because we went to a bar first. Even after taking so many customers and being super busy. JOSE made sure to give us fresh food and went above and beyond with gratitude. What a great person to encounter. It was delightful experience with fresh food. Thank you so much Jose.

Google
I took regular chicken sand wings bowl the Worst food ever I had. Looks like it is not fresh food They charged $17 for hummus they charge close to $2 When I asked for fresh shawarma meet they didn’t have the one I asked for they are just giving old stalled or previous day food Don’t try here ever

Google
I ordered from Grubhub. As a person from Brooklyn, NY, I will say that I love Halal food. Especially from a Halal food truck. So when I saw this spot was here, I was like.."YASSSS...son". My wife and I both ordered chicken and beefmix, I wish they had chicken and lamb. I though. I paid for additional white sauce cause you definitely need that. 😋 I'm not going to front.. my whole plate was good. I do not know why they received ANY negative reviews

Lamarr English

Google
It’s good late night/ quick casual food. Maybe not as good at the original spots on the east coast but still pretty solid if you want a bowl or a pita. Definitely would prefer the white sauce on the bowl instead of the packaging though.

Zaify K

Google
Excellent venue for Halal food! Prices range from around $14 for shawarma roll to $17 for standard platters, which should have chicken or beef as the meat. There are also falafel (vegetarian) options. Pretty decent eating space. The only suggestion I have is to have a little more variety in cold drinks

Yelp
Order # 36831304 To Go Order Server: Sabitri N. Date: 1/12/25 Time: 2:30 AM Food item: Beef Gyro Sandwich Last weekend, I spent time in the beautiful city of Oakland. Upon my arrival, I was hungry and wanted to have a healthy, late night snack. After thorough research, I found out The Halal Guys were opened until 3 AM. My server Sabitri N. was cool, calm, and patient during our interaction. Big shout out to all the employees working at The Halal Guys that very night. Staying up late whilst working is tough on the mind, and body. As a customer, I appreciate and value the hard work and sheer efforts put forth. In addition, I enjoyed being in the restaurant. Upon my arrival, a woman was sweeping the floor and keeping space clean. Thank you for all you do. Overall, I loved the Beef Gyro Sandwich. On a scale of 1-5, I'd give it a solid 4. Fresh toppings, excellent sauce, and succulent beef. Next time I am in town and looking for a late snack, I'll make sure to stop ny and support local business. Thank you, J

Yelp
Halal Friday! Came here to pick up online order and got Shawarma beef. Meat was tender and not chewy. Veggies were fresh and crunchy! However, the main catalyst was the white sauce!!! A must have condiment!!!! Not complete without it! But also tried the hot sauce! Lots of kicks so be gentle! Eventually, if you like hot sauce then you'll adapt to it! One major drawback, the parking! There is none! You either have to double park to pick your food or bring a buddy! Overall, I'll come back again, with a buddy next time!

Yelp
Really good spicy sauce and really good wings. The dinner plate with rice and veggies with your choice of protein is a great deal. Love the wings !!!

Yelp
Showed up for lunch, I ordered a sandwich. Staff didn't ask what goes in it but it was a bit of blessing in disguise, because they were shaving shawarma off the drum when not too many folks were pulling up. I wouldn't subscribe to not fresh meat cuts. The falafel was good is just I'd rather not find out if the meat gets used for future customers. I had a side of hummus, yummy, could have used a bit more bread. Soda machine was broken , lack of attention to detail. It wasn't bad, but having 2 -4 other shawarma places near by that are amazing I'd rather go over there.

Yelp
We were in town for All-Star weekend and went to the Paramount for a comedy show. Afterward, we were hungry and decided to check out All Guys. I got the platter, and my son got a gyro. He seemed to enjoy his, but I wasn't impressed. My food was pretty bland and flavorless, even after adding sauces and toppings. Since it's a late-night spot, I guess they can get away with simple food, but it just wasn't for me. I only took a few bites before tossing the rest. Definitely wouldn't come back.

Yelp
Salty as f***. This meal will send your blood pressure Sky high Uber Eats was great. My delivery driver was awesome but again another disappointing experience from Halal Guys. I've got to stop torturing myself thank Goodness for the white sauce.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
Very solid spot. Not sure what's up with the reviews. I always get great service. It's like a fresher better subway. You make your wrap with ingredients they have, they sauce it up. You eat it'. Tahini and the red sauce are the best. 5 lines of red sauce and you will know it's hot. More than that it drowns out the flavors a bit. Great people and a filling wrap.
google avatar

Nic R.

Yelp
Food was good. Location is kind of sketch. The service was super good. The restaurant could be cleaner and more organized because it looks really messy and smelled like chemicals inside.
google avatar

Charlie B.

Yelp
The service is fast and they're kind people but the actual quality of the food is like Subway. Gyros are one of my absolute favorite items and this last one was as disappointing as I remember it being the first time I came over a year ago. Portions are also pretty dismal - except for the jalapeño which they absolutely slathered on. If you're in the mood for gyro I have been impressed with Athenian Cafe so if you're trying to choose which to try I recommend going that route.

Duy T.

Yelp
The food is excellent. However, we have consistently encountered issues with the app and the reward system. Despite frequent visits and accumulating points, we are unable to use them because staff members often say "User not Found" when scanning our reward barcode. This has been quite disappointing, and unfortunately, we have had to reduce our visits due to the system's unreliability.
google avatar

Julia V.

Yelp
Usually get a sandwich rather than a platter for lunch. I like being able to customize the toppings and sauces. It's a lot of food and it's always well flavored. Some people dine in but it always seems rather crowded and as if I'd be in the way.
google avatar

Jovie O.

Yelp
First time trying, taste better than what I expected. Customer service was nice. No parking lot, has to do street parking. Recommended 60%-80% cover with white sauce and a little bit of hot sauce. The hot sauce was spicy, don't put any hot sauce if you can't eat spicy.

Yelp
It had been a while since I had picked up food from The Halal Guys, so I ordered a beef shawarma and falafel platter through the app. When I arrived, there were two other customers ahead of me in line -- one picking up an order and another trying to place an order. We were all told the rice had to finish cooking and that our orders would be ready in five minutes. I ended up waiting 15 minutes, during which time more customers came in. I wasn't in a rush, but it certainly wasn't ideal. I would have preferred simply leaving my home later, which I would have done if there had been any indication that there might be a delay. Other places might offer a complimentary side or dessert for making their customers wait more than a couple of minutes past the promised pickup time. I would have been happy to try the jalapeño hummus or baklava cheesecake. Similar to my past experiences at The Halal Guys, my meal tasted good, but it was too small of a portion for the money they charge. The rice and lettuce take up way too much of the platter, with a relatively small amount of meat. I was also bummed to get just one packet of white sauce. I recall getting two in the past -- maybe this is only for large platters? It was good to see the employees wearing gloves. I would have also liked to see them wearing masks while handling food. I was also disappointed that my platter was missing olives, which I included in my order.
google avatar

Alexis M.

Yelp
Don't sleep on Halal guys! They have really good chicken platters. When I worked I Ike's I would go here a lot. Service is great also. They have other options but the chicken platter is my favorite with the yellow rice and veggies. Can't go wrong
google avatar

Stefan T.

Yelp
Quick, friendly and delicious food. The cheesecake was a surprise as it was unique and better than what you'd find at fancy bakeries in the city. Quick - impressively fast - people working there with impeccable memory. I don't want to call this fast food but it is. But not fast like McDonalds where it takes 15 minutes and is of questionable ingredients. Friendly - attentive - smiles - what else can I say?! Delicious food - great to have something different. Baklava cheesecake was a pleasant surprise. Many different layers and flavors. Some crunch - not overly sweet.... Americans are notorious for enjoying junky cheescake. If your a hamburger hotdog type this might be too sophisticated for you. Instead you can go to the local gas station and find a treat wrapped in plastic.

Yelp
I ordered take out, and was not impressed. 1. They charge extra for the hot sauce ($1 per packet) 2. The pita is damp and spongy 3. The "seasonal special" hummus with sweet onions was like hummus with sugar mixed in. The kids said it was too sweet to eat... 4. The "seasonal special" falafal with sriracha and honey tasted the same as the normal falafal. These were also misshapen and burnt 5. The regular falafel are good, but cost $1 per falafel. Shwarmaji near by sells them for $0.50 per falafel, and they are a local establishment not a chain. 6. The white sauce costs extra too (you get none with your order), and is made out of soybean oil. not a stong garlic flavor either. More like thinned out mayo. 7. The tahini (you got it, costs extra too, you get none with your order) is thin and has an almost rancid sesame undertone. 8. Very weak baba ganouj (not a lot of flavor, odd texture). Overall, they are probably fine for a quick wrap, can't comment on chicken/meats b/c I didn't try them. The fact that they don't include ANY sauces with orders is BS. I will not be going back with the other places available close by. Thanks

Yelp
While it's clearly not the famed Halal Guys cart of New York City, Halal Guys on Broadway does it's job. Consistently polite, relatively quick service, they are a staple in the area for a fast and fulfilling meal. I've eaten both in-restaurant and have used their delivery services/partners (most recently Uber Eats). When dining in, the dining room is no frills and there never seems to be more than 1-2 groups eating in. That said, my most recent order of the Chicken/Gyro Platter through Uber Eats was delicious. Mountains of portions of beef, chicken and rice - which makes the steep $20 price more palatable though also restrictive for a single dinner diner. Good flavors, tender chicken and beef, and the mountains of sauce known to Halal guys is the secret sauce..pun intended. I'd order again based on the food and when I'm craving Halal Guys. The $20 price makes it a treat versus becoming a regular of mine on the dinner rotation. I hope to see more foot traffic and that Halal Guys sticks around in Oakland. The city deserves a staple like this.

Yelp
I haven't been here since before the pandemic! The white sauce is the best! I usually get the chicken bowl and side of fries with all the toppings. Great location in DT Oakland and added an extra star because they're open til 2am! Great meal after a night of bar hopping.
google avatar

Yelp
Well, I had a great meal from Halal Guys in downtown Oakland! The Caviar App owed me a credit, so I used it to order delivery just before lunch on a Tuesday. BTW, just a tip....just before lunchtime is the best time to order food. Usually the best crew is on duty, and everything is fully stocked. Lunch is usually the top revenue event, so the restaurant is ready to serve. (How do I know? I'm a former fast food shift mgr, and I kicked butt on lunch rush). I ordered: Zesty Lamb & Beef Gyro Sandwich and the Chicken & Beef Gyro Sandwich. OMG, both Gyro sandwiches were excellent! Easy (5/5) grade. They arrived wrapped in foil, with napkins, white sauce, and hot sauce. The pita bread was soft. These big sandwiches both had generous amounts of fillings. Also, the white sauce really brings out the flavor. They weigh in at about 12+ oz each. These sandwiches travel well as takeout or delivery. The Halal Guys are located at Broadway x 22nd St in Downtown Oakland.

Yelp
The beef was incredibly dry. needed a lot of sauce to chew it. hard to choke down. fast service though

Yelp
I was in Oakland for work and got lunch with some coworkers at Halal Guys. Having only ever been to the original New York stand before and none of the newer expanded locations, I wasn't sure what to expect. But everything was as delicious as I remember from years ago! I ordered the regular combo chicken and gyro platter. I liked the sauce packets that were available on the side, which allowed me to choose the level of white and red sauce. The accompanying sides were really good as well; although there was the occasional wilty piece of lettuce. My coworkers all opted for the wrap option, which ended up being messier, but still delicious. They enjoyed the +$1 hummus base that could be added. Overall, I was really happy to have satisfy the Halal Guys craving that I've had since I first tried it in New York. I hope they'll eventually expand closer to my hometown! Until then, I'll swing by other locations whenever I get a chance.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Food is underrated. Cravings fixed - sis introduced this place to me and been coming here since. Hard to find parking though.
google avatar

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Not as good as the SF location. Tasted very different and not as fresh. Service was ok but pretty dry.
google avatar

Matthew A.

Yelp
Best Halal chicken in the Bay Area hands-down. Prior to these guys, my favorite Halal was a food truck in San Francisco my wife would pick up honor on occasion. On her way home.. Due to the pandemic, Halal cart is now gone. But Halal guys is as good as it gets after trying multiple spots in the East Bay. It's a little out of my way, but their delivery partners make this special treat possible. I highly recommend the chicken platters. Tasty and tender and the sauces are delicious.
google avatar

Danielle J.

Yelp
Love this place food always fresh customer service excellent I enjoy eating I this place is a simple, but the food is not food is fabulous and you get a chance to enact with the customers and with the staff were open I frequently go here when I'm on my way to pair my theater or even after such a cool place.
google avatar

Nish Z.

Yelp
being an ex new Yorker this food always has a special place in my heart( tummy)..but the locations in the bay area are such a disgrace to this chain! First of all Oakland's bowl is $15 bucks each! That's ridiculous but whatever But the reason why I'm so unhappy with this purchase today is coz after we were done ordering 3 bowls they finally tell us they're out of all sauces ( what??) What's halal guys without their sauces! They then give us these tiny black containers HALF filled with white sauce and just 2 red sauces. Got back home and soooo disappointed with our meal. Had to leave more than half uneaten coz there was no sauce and without it it's just plain meat over rice. I wish the store did a better job keeping stock. And at least letting customers know BEFORE they order it. The store just doesn't seem to care.

David S.

Yelp
Just got home with my to go order and wow!! This was by far the worst meal I've ever had here!! I got the combo platter and the beef was rock hard and tastes like it was cooked 6-7 hours ago and just sat out. Everything was dry and the pita bread was as crunchy as a chip. It's usually much better than this. Was even more disappointed when I called the restaurant to inform the manager and his response was "ok thanks have a good night man". He did t give a shit! Wasn't asking for anything for free just wanted to let them know. No offer to bring it back and replace it or anything. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area to eat at where the people who work there actually care about the food they serve.
google avatar

Stefan D.

Yelp
Haven't had Halal Guys in a long time, so I decided to stop by this location. The beef was a bit tough, but other than that, it tasted just like how I remember. Service was quick and easy since it wasn't crowded when I came in
google avatar

Christopher L.

Yelp
Ordered the gyro/falafel plate and baba ganoush, and was extremely satisfied. The falafel are delicious and crispy, as good as the best I've had, and everything tasted fresh. The baba ganoush was super tasty, too. Smoky, salty, and just the right texture. The price is pretty reasonable for the amount of food. Zero complaints. Every single bite was delicious. I'll definitely order here again.
google avatar

Andre S.

Yelp
Halal Guys when done right is top tier and satisfying but at this particular location the food is a bit inconsistent and that shows me it suffers from a lack of leadership on the management side. For the meat is either dry at times or just old from sitting there and the tomatoes are soggy from sitting at the bottom of the pan for hours. The food however is too expensive and not worth the $20 for a platter and all I'm getting is rice and lettuce with a scoop of meat. Not worth the buck Service is something I really don't like to rate on low paying jobs because it seems like there's always attitudes and moods so I just think most these restaurants have janky customer service. And management definitely needs to make sure the ingredients are fresh and show leadership. Ambiance is downtown Oakland quick bite and it's convenient because it's open until midnight. So perfect for people out on the night.

Yelp
Nice to have a Chicken n Rice option on the west coast! Not exactly like the Chicken n Rice that I used to order on the sidewalk in midtown Manhattan, but almost as good! We ordered a DoorDash pickup at 4pm on a Wednesday and the estimated 60-minute wait almost immediately went down to 10 minutes. * Chicken bowl ($13.99, +$4.49 for extra chicken) - 3.5 stars The chicken was a tad dry. But the sauce was great. We were surprised to get 2 big packets of the sauce and being stingy, we only used one. We should have used both to really soak the meat! * Baklava $3.99 - 3 stars This was dense but a little stale (full disclosure, we ate them about 6 hours after picking them up).

Charles K.

Yelp
Came in right before closing and received great service and great food. The beef shwarma was excellent and the white and spicy sauce is as good as I remember it in NYC.

Jenay B.

Yelp
Came here after the gym to satisfy my gnawing hunger. I got falafels & tahini sauce. The tahini sauce is watered down, no flavor. The falafels are fried too hard and just flavorless. I'm disappointed.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Check in on YELP for a free Baklava offer for most Halal Guys location! A lot has changed with Halal Guys in the last 10~15 years, including a decreased rating to 2 stars for my recent visit. Portion size has gotten much smaller (inflation) and it is definitely worth paying extra for the large size! Size of the platter and meat portion was much smaller! It will be $1 - $2.50 extra depending on what service you use to purchase Halal guys! The sauces used to be free and they would give you a handful. Now, you have to pay for each pack of sauce. The pita wasn't as good because it was so soggy. I don't ever remember their pita being soggy and pita shouldn't be soggy in general... Not sure if I would go to this location again.
google avatar

Yelp
Got lunch at this place last week. Got their chicken rice bowl. Plenty of quantity. Ample chicken, greens, and rice in a bowl. The food was hot. The place has good amount of indoor dining place. Place is clean and well maintained. The food was good but not awesome. The food was more chipotle and Panda Express style where the food is already made and they pack it up as you pick your choices. The chicken quality was ok. Bottom line will visit the place for a quick lunch.

Ernest L.

Yelp
I went in with a friend to order food. My friend got their order immediately. Suddenly, this doordash guy cuts me in line demanding his food. Absolutely rude. What's even more rude is that all the servers walked off after helping him. Didn't bother to acknowledge me. So I left. Went nextdoor to get Ike's, then went back to Halal Guys to eat with my friend. I've been here many times in the past but this was absolutely the worst experience. Might not come back here for awhile

Nikki R.

Yelp
The falafel was fresh and very good, but the rice in the platter I ordered tasted strangely soapy.
google avatar

Meg T.

Yelp
This was a late night gyro and hummus run. Sadly neither the hummus or the baba ghanoush came with the pita bread that was stated to have been included on the app. Which is probably for the best because the pita that came in the sandwich wasn't good. It tasted aged and not in a good way. The meat also wasn't fresh, but to be fair, what can you expect at 10pm. All in all, I likely won't order from this location again.
google avatar

James N.

Yelp
I ordered the regular combo plate with Beef and Chicken and added jalapeños, onions and bbq sauce . The white sauce they have brings out the flavor in the plate . I think without it it tastes a little bland so make sure you grab that sauce . Be careful with that hot sauce because it is spicy ! You can order sides like fries , pita chips , falafel . They also have small desert treats . I would have given this place a 4 but I felt like my chicken was just a little undercook . Take some more time ensuring everything is good to go before serving . Staff were very nice Quick notes . Not in the best location as you see homeless people laid out on the floor but that's just downtown . Parking is tough to find You can dine in
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
Got the combo platter and checked in for free dessert; baklava (dessert pastry made with filo dough and honey or syrup). The meat tasted okay. Not great, not awful. They have different sauces (self-serve) like bbq, tahini and white sauce (kinda tasted like yogurt/sour cream/ranch). The cashier didn't speak English well. I showed him the Yelp offer and he looked confused and gave me a cup for soda. I explained to him it was for the free baklava. He went to get the manager in the back. A girl came out and looked annoyed. She told me just to grab the baklava from a nearby stand then she went back to the back. Won't be returning. I had really amazing chicken schwarma from a food truck in Portland, OR. I'll have to go back there lol.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
I was really excited when the Halal Guys first opened in Oakland because I had an obsession with the NY cart during my visit years ago. I was expecting the hot and fresh flavorful chicken shawarma, broken rice and the tons of their signature white sauce. The meal didn't quite taste like the meal I remembered in NY- it had a "commercial taste," like the quality had gone down due to mass production. I would come back for late night meals, but there are better places in the area to go for shawarma, like Falafel Boy.
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
It's okay, not sure why so many New Yorkers get all worked up about Halal Guys infiltrating the Bay Area. I prefer lamb. I did get free baklava because I checked in on Yelp! I was glad she was generous with veggies but nobody needs THAT many onions - balance is preferable to quantity. The hot sauce is really HOT!!!!! I was grateful I asked for just a few drops.
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
Honestly I think maybe I expected too much thinking this location would be like the one in Manhattan where I used to go, but it is a far cry from that. The place was empty when I came in. Not a soul in there. Guess I should've read the reviews before ordering. My sandwich was $22 after tax and extremely disappointing. The price isn't justified but the rating sure is. You can tell they cut corners on quality all around. My gyro had low quality meat and ingredients. Sauce was made of cheap, unhealthy oils, and the pita was soggy already the minute it was handed to me. Sure, feed me trash, but at least make it tasty or cheap. This was neither. Edible, but just barely. Two thumbs down, will not be returning!

Yelp
GEEEEZUS effing Christ, Bae!!! How can Mediterranean fast food taste THIS good?! You know what... I don't even wanna know! Just FEED it to me, please! PUH-LEASE! Thank you! :) Okaaaaay.... never tried their "original" location in NY, and apparently I don't need to because this is deliciousness in its' own right. So, for all of you New Yorkers out there; you shouldn't be expecting it to be 100% like it is back home. That's like going to an In-N-Out burger in Texas and thinking that it's gonna taste the same as it does in Cali (sorry y'all... there IS a difference!). But anyways, this Cali girl truly enjoyed this fast food Mediterranean gluttony to the fullest! The interior is bright, fresh, and clean. Service is executed with a warm demeanor and a bright smile! The process was explained thoroughly to me including the additional items that could be added, the sauces, and the sandwich or platter option. I ended up going with the platter and the amount of food that they pack into that container is friggin' ridiculous! So much food in that little tin foiled pan!!! As for the food: it's a YES! Like, 5 stars YES! Like, "If you don't want it, I'll eat yours too" type of YES! JUST.... YEEESSS! The combo platter is basically life! Although I would have loved to try their falafel, I really enjoyed both the chicken and beef gyro. The platter comes with rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and your choice of protein. You can add other toppings such as onions and green peppers and other items for an additional fee. I added everything except for olives and baba ghanoush. What I loved most about the platter was the amazing combination of flavors. The beef gyro was seasoned very well and the chicken was nice and tender. They provided a lot of meat which was also a plus. The lettuce and tomato tasted fresh and the addition of the jalapeños gave it a nice spiciness. The hummus was on point; Creamy and delicious! When mixed all together, this bowl was slammin'! Loved that white sauce too! I know it's basically mayo but... so what?! I love mayo and it was damn good! It tasted especially good when mixed into the platter. I was way too chicken to try the hot sauce this time around but I do want to try it eventually. It just gives me another excuse to come back again. Bottom line is, I like it. Naaaaw... I didn't like it. I LOVED it! I hope they keep it up because if they do, they'll make a long time customer out of me. Welcome to the O, Halal Guys!

First time coming to this Halal Guys and they're all pretty similar. There were no lines when I came so I was able to get my food quickly and leave. The service was fast and nice, the woman who helped me gave my boyfriend and I what we asked for, extra white sauce! And some more to-go! Overall, everything went well here and the food was good like usual!

Yelp
Welcome to the neighborhood, The Halal Guys! Soft opening was yesterday. This is my first time having Halal Guys and it won't be the last. I recommend coming early as the line is very long around lunch time. I ordered the combo platter with a $1 add on of baba ganouj. The combo comes with chicken, gyro meat, rice, shredded lettuce, pita and other toppings like olives and white sauce at request. The white sauce is delish! I don't care much for the rice. It is orange, has a unique flavor and is cold. Beware the hot sauce is very, very hot. I'll return soon. Excellent location kitty corner to Agave and across from Luka's taproom.

Yelp
Still waiting for this to open in Uptown Oakland. It's been over a month and it finally opens this week. This place will be busy everyday. Update this place is opened and it rocks

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect based on the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the meat had good flavor and the rice was cooked all the way. They gave me ample olives and sauces. True I only got one pita bread but there is so much food it didn't matter. The only reason why I gave four stars is because their sauce is not fresh. It comes in a package and tastes like mayonnaise. The hot sauce on the other hand was very good and very spicy.

Yelp
I've been to the Halal Guys in NYC and in Las Vegas. Unfortunately I just found out about the one in Oakland. I will be visiting the East Bay more often now that I've made this recent discovery. I usually get the gyro plate when I visit a Halal Guys. The food is always on point and plentiful enough to have for the following day.
