"Boston’s “Scottish headquarters” spent its first few years of existence without a full liquor license, making things work well enough with an outstanding selection of almost exclusively Scottish beers and ciders — but one thing was missing. Whisky. The Haven has since acquired its full license and is now showcasing whisky from all over Scotland. The bar and restaurant also serves Scottish food — including haggis — and hosts numerous events, including live music, game watches, and tastings." - Erika Adams
"Boston’s “Scottish headquarters,” Jamaica Plain favorite the Haven naturally has fish and chips on the menu, along with, unsurprisingly, an extensive, well-sourced scotch collection. Called “fish supper,” the fish is beer-battered haddock, with big chunky chips, and minty mushy peas." - Tanya Edwards
"Combining the aesthetics of a provincial Scottish tavern with a cozy ski lodge, The Haven is our favorite spot to grab brunch on dreary days. Scottish restaurants are in low supply in Boston (as in, this is the only one), which makes their wide-ranging beer and whisky selection from the homeland all the more precious. The portions run on the smaller side, so ordering a couple of apps—we’d push for the scotch egg and cheesy bridies—helps round out the meal. Just make sure to order the potato and smoked fish cakes benedict, which are so good we’d add them to our family crest if we had one. " - lala thaddeus
"The Haven is Boston’s Scottish headquarters — now in new, larger digs on Armory Street. Go for the curry, the deep-fried Mars bars, and, as one might imagine, the very decent scotch selection. Start with something floral and slightly salty from the Highlands, and finish with something sweet and malty from Speyside." - Terrence Doyle
"Boston’s Scottish headquarters, the Haven, is a great spot to cozy up alone with a glass of scotch or an interesting Scottish craft beer. The food is hearty, the hospitality is warm, and there’s often live music. It’s almost mandatory that you start with a Scotch egg, and the Haven’s juicy burger is definitely best enjoyed with focus. Room for dessert? Close out the night with “the braveheart of Scottish desserts”: a deep-fried Mars bar. Solo diners can reserve online or just show up." - Nathan Tavares
