This charming Palm Springs burger joint is a must-visit for tasty smash burgers and affordable martinis, all served in a fun, vibrant atmosphere.
"After three hours of laying by the pool doing nothing, reward yourself with a leisurely lunch at The Heyday. The former smashburger pop-up is now located on the north end of Palm Canyon in a retro dining room with dark red booths and stained-glass lampshades. It feels like a pizza parlor from the mid-'80s where everyone’s eating crispy crinkle fries, double-fried chicken wings, and smashburgers slick with Thousand Island dressing. There’s also a full bar and plenty of natural wine—our move is the all-day martini and burger special." - brant cox
"Old-school restaurant JJ’s Mexican Oasis was converted by Brad and Crystal Reihl into the Heyday. The new owners restored the red leather booths and kept some of the lighting — it still feels like dining in a classic 1970s eatery. On the menu are trendy smash burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, wings, fries, and a hefty gem salad with lemon, toasted panko breadcrumbs, and a light ranch dressing. The bar serves classic cocktails." - Eater Staff, Mona Holmes
"A few years back, Brad and Crystal Reihl took over longtime Mexican restaurant JJ’s Mexican Oasis. They kept the red leather banquettes and excellent PA system, then installed wood paneling. Since then, the Heyday has become a popular hangout across the street from the Arrive Palm Springs hotel. Though many go for the burgers, it also draws imbibers coming for the classic Tom Collins, lemon drop, Negroni, orange wines, or Calidad on draft while listening to the well-curated playlist." - Mona Holmes

"Riding out from Palm Springs after a long festival weekend left me feeling somewhere in between needing a very large, very green salad and a massive, dripping cheeseburger. Luckily, the Heyday does both, as well as one delightful, riffy pile of fries loaded with queso, chopped chilis, caramelized onion, and “special sauce.” The double smash burger is the way to go here; I switched it up by ordering mine with one beef patty and one house-made mushroom patty. The deep umami goodness of grilled mushroom and an expertly griddled smashed beef patty made the whole thing soar far beyond my roadside burger aspirations. — Nicole Adlman, cities manager" - Eater Staff
