Over Labor Day weekend, my friends and I headed out to The Holding Company to see the Red Elvises, one of my favorite bands. It was a little bizarre as it was scheduled for 2 PM on a Sunday, but hey... a little party day by the beach on a holiday weekend... why not?!
This was only my second time ever at THC. The first time was several years ago when they first opened and I was introduced to their peanut butter whiskey, and a fun cover band.
When we arrived, I learned that they had been planning for a couple of opening bands that had canceled, so we went upstairs for some cocktails.
There they have a full Asian Fusion menu and some great cocktails. I really liked the El Chapo, which was adorned with a cute cowboy hat. With our group of friends, I got to taste several cocktails. The servers were friendly and laid back, and we noticed the band sitting at the bar as well before the show.
It is not too big, so I imagine it gets filled up pretty fast. That day, the outside rooftop was already full, so we were inside. Anyway, we then went downstairs for the show. It basically is a big, long room with a bar along the back side and a stage on the other end. As it was a matinee with a band that required tickets in advance, or a steep cover, so it was not crowded at all, as I don't think people many people know they were playing.
The downstairs only has basic cocktails. As it was not crowded, we had plenty of space to dance and to move around. The basic cocktails were decent and pretty reasonable priced. It never took more than one or two minutes to get a drink. I generally drank Palomas throughout the show.
I think that they could have done a better job advertising that opening bands, even though they did cancel, so we would have had a better idea when the show was starting. I didn't mind waiting upstairs, but we did rush over there for no reason, as the show started a couple hours later than advertised.
