The Hoxton, Shoreditch

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe?Housed in a low-slung, nondescript brick building in east London, the Hoxton Shoreditch is a boutique, high-design hotel with beautiful bar and restaurant spaces on the ground level as you enter. Hip young professionals, freelance or otherwise, choose the lobby as a place to work and conduct meetings. The space has all the energy of a coworking space, as guests may frequently collaborate together. What's the backstory? The Hoxton Shoreditch is the first of a boutique chain of hotels now operating throughout Europe and the United States. The hotel first launched in 2006, just as the trendy neighborhood of Shoreditch was beginning to emerge as a hot spot of London. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? The rooms at the Hoxton Shoreditch are small, yet cozy, with chic herringbone wood floors and dramatic dark walls. Rooms do provide everything you need for a night, with a minimal amount of room. The Hoxton even refers to their smallest room as "shoebox;" however, the design of the rooms and amenities offered—such as free breakfast—may make you forget about the lack of space. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?No charge for the excellent wifi. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?The Hoxton Grill is open from breakfast until dinner serving elevated American diner classics. Breakfast is delivered to your door every morning based on selections made the night before and hung outside your door. And the service?Every employee at the Hoxton Shoreditch is eager to please and seems to love being at the hotel. The Hoxton doesn’t have a traditional concierge, but the staff are very knowledgeable about the area and can give guest tips on where to go nearby. What type of travelers will you find here?Members of the freelance tribe do not keep the same hours as members of other tribes, preferring to work on their own schedule. They may or may not be dressed for business, even if they’re hosting meetings at the hotel all day long. They might even be having an early drink (or two) while still finishing up work. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene?Shoreditch has been one of London’s biggest up and coming neighborhoods over the past decade and a half, bringing with it artists and other creative types, to which the Hoxton has always catered. Stay here if you don’t want to feel as if you’re staying in the middle of the business district, and prefer more of a scene in the evenings. Any other hotel features worth noting? The Hoxton features many event spaces of various sizes, from a smaller library room to a space for up to 250 people. The Hoxton does not have a spa or gym. Bottom line: Worth it? Why?Yes, if you don’t mind a small room. Perfect for solo business travelers that like to have fun." - Laura Ratliff

The rooms are beautiful - clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed with a calming aesthetic. The lobby is equally lovely, and the fact that locals are welcomed to use it as a coworking space speaks volumes about the welcoming atmosphere. Che and Ioana were absolutely wonderful warm, professional, and incredibly helpful. They assisted with our luggage, swiftly arranged help when needed, and even brought us cold water while we waited in the heat for our Uber, always with a smile. The hotel’s location is perfect, within walking distance of many of the restaurants on our must-visit list. We didn’t get to try the local gym this time, but it’s on our list for the next stay!

We’ve stayed here before and will definitely return again. The location is perfect for us -ideal for visiting our sons and with great connections into central London. Our room was very comfortable, especially the bed and breakfast was excellent.||The rooftop bar is also a real highlight well worth a visit on a sunny day!||Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The staff were kind, helpful and always ready to assist. A special thank you to Kwaja for the warm and attentive service!

We really loved the location of The Hoxton Shoreditch, it was perfect for us. Close to public transport and easy to get around. The neighborhood itself had plenty of great shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance, which made exploring super enjoyable.||Our room was beautifully decorated, stylish yet cozy and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. we slept so well! One of the highlights was our dinner at the hotel/ Peruvian restaurant, Llama Inn. The food was absolutely delicious and I’d highly recommend trying it during your stay.||The atmosphere throughout the hotel was warm and welcoming, the staff were all very polite and helpful—special thanks to Sofie, Ioana, and Akif for their kindness and professionalism.||Overall, a fantastic hotel in a superb location. We would definitely stay here again!

From the moment we met desk team, everything was outstanding. Attention to detail, helpfulness of reception (we had an great team - Ioama and Che!) the stay was for my boyfriend’s birthday and the staff made it exceptionally special. Thank you very much.

Google
The room was comfortable and clean and the location is great for the Shoreditch and Old Street areas. Also the ground floor lobby seemed very convenient for anyone who needs to work there on their laptop. Some details made the stay less comfortable than it could have easily been. There was no electricity plug in the bathroom, and no mini fridge, so no water in the room—had to go downstairs to get it. Additionally, during the late night we received two calls from the reception, probably by mistake, which woke us up.

It was fabulous. Amazing service from all of the staff, specially Ioana, Victoria and Akif. The room had a lovely decor, was exceptionally clean and comfortable. So easy to catch the tube with station only a couple of minutes walk.

Great hotel in London Really enjoyed our stay here. You can tell why the hotel is in a higher price range – the quality and service match it. Check-in was quick and easy, and we were grateful to Ioana and Che for helping us get into our room earlier than expected. The room was on a high floor, nicely sized, and very comfortable. Breakfast was also great – lots of tasty options to choose from.

Yelp
Really easy ground to get to. Bit rough in places but has wonderful character to it. A great crowd who deserve to be higher up.

Yelp
I was an away fan for this match, I'd say the atmosphere was insane from my fans! However, I do generally feel like the away end has been kicked to the ground. I assume the home end is a lot better however the away end looks not the best and well I shouldn't expect much but it could do with some more improvements.

Yelp
Dear readers, for my fellow tourists visiting London, I found a fantastic hotel for you....the Hoxton is uber cool, and located in the hip are of shoreditch. You walk in and you feel you are in a time capsule from the 60's...it is so retro and chic...the staff is so friendly and helpful, and if they did not know something they were sure to find out for you. The room is small but comfortable, we had the double....the shoebox looks super cute if you are traveling alone. Unfortunately the only draw back is there is no fitness center, but for me, who loves walking, I felt I got a good cardio workout anyway. They do share with another hotel, but you have to pay to get in, so no bueno in my opinion, should be complimentary. There are so many cool things to see within walking distance, and the tube is a 5 min walk. The breakfast is really yummy, and in the evening it turns into a super fun bar scene.

Yelp
Wow, such an impressive hotel! Just walking into the lobby, you immediately realize you've been transported to a chic and cool spot! It was a hot/humid day and it was nice to feel the welcome of air conditioning. The check-in process was easy and the room was great! It was a good-sized room with modern, yet unique décor. They provided a simple daily breakfast delivered to the door each morning and it was a nice convenience. The location is nice since it's in a great spot in Shoredtich, about a 5 minute walk to the Tube (Old Street). From the hotel, it's easy to access to Spitalfields Market, Boxpark and Brick Lane Market. Every evening, especially Fridays and Saturdays, the lobby is a scene, packed with people eating, drinking and socializing...everyone is dressed to impress so make sure you dress the part!

Yelp
Nice crowed place on the Friday night. We had diner there. Quickly served and large choice on the menu. I have the vegan burger. Really good. The deco is incredible. Have to go there, even just for a coffee during the day.

Yelp
The hotel is in a hip area, but it's an odd setup. There is a restaurant/coffee shop/bar downstairs, and the hotel part is more like a bunch of dorm rooms upstairs. Decor is modern, seems clean, BUT it did look dusty on the rug under the bed. I actually ended up with bug bites all over my body in the morning. I was very stressed that it might be bed bugs, but the guy at the front desk assured me their hotel has been inspected and they didn't have them. I'm hoping it was just dust mites or something like that. In any event, I wrote to the manager to let her know too. Writing this review so other guests who are sensitive to bugs are on notice. This is exactly why I hate staying at hotels, gross.

Yelp
As an American vacationing in London for the 1st time I was hesitant on what a "deal" the Hoxton appeared to be. It turned out to be not only a great deal but a great hotel overall. If I were to sum the hotel up in one word it would be "trendy". The decor is modern and everything is new - from the flat panel TV to the extra large shower head with a personal sprayer. If you are looking for the stereotypical English hotel this is not the place to be. But if you want a great hotel with an "in crowd" feel this is it. The whole area is trendy with great night life. The hotel has a fantastic restaurant and bar. Every night the bar filled up with young professionals there for a drink - yet it was quiet and subdued. The fantastic value of this hotel extended beyond the daily room rate. It came with free internet, and phone rates of 5 cents a minute to the US and 3 cents local. It also came with a healthy breakfast of yogurt, granola, banana and juice. The staff is made up of young folks that were friendly and helpful. This hotel is one of best kept secrets of the Londoners. Most of the guests and bar patrons were British. The one down side of this is they do not exchange foreign currency at the hotel. The do however have an ATM machine and if you need to change currency the Post Office is just minutes walk away next to the Old street tube station. This hotel is not located in central London where all the sights are. However, with London's subways and taxis, this was not an issue; the hotel is located in London eastside. The money I saved was well worth the extra minutes that I had to travel. Most London hotels were around 200-300 GBP; I paid an average of 90GBP per night. The only downside to this hotel is the neighborhood. While it is not a run down dangerous neighborhood, it does look a bit like a neighborhood in transition. In a couple of years I think this will be a very nice fashionable neighborhood. Even now, a few blocks from the hotel are lots of nice restaurants and shops. Overall this is a great hotel for folks on vacation. While I would not recommend kids younger than teens (only because I did not see any there and it does have that trendy club feel to it) it is great for everyone else. In my group we ranged from late 50s to late teens and we all had a great time at the Hoxton.

Yelp
Loved my stay. The busy, loud, party-central lobby is actually appealing as it's great for people watching and perfect for ambient noise. Location cannot be beat, restaurant and bar had great service and delicious options. People are super helpful and friendly. The room was a bit cold, but otherwise functional, clean and well arranged. I'm planning to make this my go-to hotel for work trips.

Yelp
What a cool trendy place to take my teens away from all the touristy spots. We booked 2 rooms for 5 nights. Very friendly & helpful at check-in. Our rooms were on the same floor; however, we were down the hall from one another (I didn't care; my teens tend to be loud). Rooms were small, but clean and modern decor. My only complaint was that our air conditioning broke. Although I told the front desk, they never fixed it. My kid's room's air conditioning worked just fine; every time I stepped into their room, it felt like a freezer. Knowing how hard it is to get my teens up in the morning, I loved the option of having a breakfast bag of orange juice, yogurt & a banana hanging on our door in the morning. The best part was the night life in the bar by the lobby. Every night, my husband and I went down for a night cap and it was quite the party. Further, the bartenders were fun and friendly and my husband swears they made him the best Espresso Martini ever (Yes, its been the best I've had to date, too). After spending the days sight-seeing, we would come back and "unwind" at the bar, but the party continues into the early morning; none of which I could hear upstairs in my room.

Yelp
5 stars isn't enough for this stellar Shoreditch stay! I've come to love the Hoxton brand of hotels for their funky, boutique digs and attention to detail. Hoxton Shoreditch completely exceeded my high expectations, and the staff went out of their way to make our stay so special! We were traveling for my sister's 25th birthday. When I emailed the front desk to give them a heads up, Faith replied immediately, and even asked for more detail so she could tailor the birthday experience just for my sister. I said my sister likes rum and the color pink, and Faith and the Hoxton team TOTALLY nailed it: trendy pink letter balloons, pink donuts from a cool local place, and rum drinks in the fridge, all detailed in the world's cutest handwritten note. It made us feel so special! Beyond the bday treats, Hoxton was awesome. The location is so cool, a short walk to Shoreditch favorites like Boxpark and Dinerama. The space is gorgeous. I love the roaring fires in the lobby and the lived-in, effortlessly cool furniture. The restaurant was great (we had the Mac and cheese, recommended!) and the bar served up a great variety of fizz on NYE. It was pretty busy on NYE and felt like a lot of people beyond hotel guests had come just for the scene. The room is so cute. I love the huge circle mirror and clever coat cupboard. We had a super fun time taking photos with the old school phone! The rainfall shower was spacious and the bathroom design was also just really cool overall. The beds were comfy and we had a quiet, wonderful sleep each night. I love the little breakfast bag they offer in the morning- especially the fresh juice. And on New Year's Day, they even threw in a little bottle of fizz! Attention to detail like that are the special extras you get for choosing the Hoxton. Despite being the original Hoxton, this place is definitely keeping up with its newer peers. I would recommend it full stop and can't wait to return!

Yelp
We stayed here for our honeymoon this past February, and overall our experience was pretty good. The staff is friendly, the location is great (about a five minute walk from the Old Street tube station), and the hotel offered some unique amenities which made the experience more fun (complimentary juice, banana, yogurt, and milk delivered to your room every morning). The space where the lobby is also contains a bar, coffee shop, and restaurant, all of which seem to be crowded at any given time. The rooms are pretty small, which is a given in the majority of European hotels. But the way they've set it up seems to make it a bit more cramped than it needs to be (huge bed, desk, side chair). This is definitely not the hotel to stay in if you're looking for a quiet, romantic getaway - the rooms have a cold/masculine vibe and the lobby is party-central. It probably isn't ideal for families, either (loud, drunk people wandering the hallways at 3 am). It would be great, however, for a holiday with friends. It's loud, hip, and fun, and right in the middle of the artistically gritty neighborhood of Shoreditch.

Yelp
The only place to stay wile in Shoreditch! The staff is absolutely incredible and the environment is chill with a bunch of stuff to do at all hours of the day. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I cannot say enough about my stay at this location. Perfect decor, comfy bed, luxurious bath products, kind staff- everything was fantastic. We ate a few meals and had a few drinks at the restaurant and coffee bar, all of which were delicious. The Old Street station gets you anywhere you want to go and is only minutes away! And at these prices, I'll never stay anywhere else in London. Special thanks to Samantha K and Faith N for making our trip so wonderful!

Yelp
Loved my stay here. Great location, within walking distance to many shops and restaurants as well as the tube station. As others have shared, their lobby is fabulous. A great place to curl up with a good book, people watch, or have a drink. The vibe of the lobby does change depending on the day of the week, as it becomes more like a bar/nightclub on evenings they have a dj. Their servers and front desk staff are all quite friendly and inviting, adding to the overall vibe of the place. I liked their little breakfast in a bag deal. Super convenient and a nice touch. I booked a "roomy room", as I knew European hotel rooms are often small and I wanted plenty of space to stretch out. Their roomy rooms are not all the same. The first night, I was in a small room by the elevators, and the noise level of passing traffic was disruptive. There was also a loud clanging pipes noise that would go off every time I or the neighboring room flushed the toilet. Not ideal for dealing with jetlag. But, I asked to move rooms the next day, and the front desk staff was more than accomodating. The second room was in a much quiter location. Additionally, the second room was much more spacious and airier. It really was a much better quality room, although also a "roomy room". The front desk staff also left treats and champagne, as I was celebrating my honeymoon. Overall, despite the slight hiccups, I loved the Hoxton and would recommend it.

Yelp
After a long and rather unpleasant overnight flight across the pond with a hefty Cypriot's arm constantly taking up share in MY seat all I wanted was a little room of my own (okay, and also a shower to wash off the stink.) I arrived at the Hoxton around 12:00 and was checked in straight away, with no color commentary such as: "Check in is at 3:00 (which, incidentally, I believe it is) please come back then." or "You're rather early, let me see if your room is ready (this is your cue to become extra ridiculously grateful about getting to check in to the room for which you've paid.)" I appreciate that the Hoxton just gets down to business and gives me what I want in short order; in London it's my happy place.

Yelp
Everything about this place was utterly fantastic. Thoughtful and unexpected touches every step of the way. Arrive early? No problem, your room is ready. Need to make a call home - to the U.S.? Sure thing, an hour free each day. That's right. Each day. Need food before a day of Big Red Buses and Clocks? Enjoy free Pret a Manger breakfast of juice, yogurt parfait and a banana each and every day. At whatever time you'd like. Seriously. This place has style, comfort and surprisingly the right price. London was the last stop of a two week European jaunt and let me tell you...the room and amenities were just what I needed. A few friends of mine in London recommended the hotel as a hip spot in a fun part of the city. There are lots of restaurant and pub choices within easy walking distance. The hotel restaurant was great, actually, however the last day of our stay (mid June '09) new management began renovations on the dining and bar area so who knows what the restaurant will be now. Every night we enjoyed a DJ spinning funky house, downtempo and old school hip hop that set the mood for the swank lobby/bar/restaurant. Enjoy the space. And the electric neon orange wire-frame Lambo. Old Street station is a short walk from the hotel and is a good line to be on for touristing and connections to larger train stations. Convenience store with toiletries, basic food and beer/wine is just across the street. Make sure you check out all of the signage in your room. It's the little things that show how much thought goes into an operation...beyond simply being a business. There are loads of fantastic food and pub choices just steps away. Enjoy exploring. If you're into a non-stuffy yet totally covered hotel, check in to the Hoxton.

Yelp
This place is super swish and a total pleasure to stay in. Location is perfect - Hoxton / Shoreditch, you can't beat it. The rooms are amazing - all individually decorated with unusual bed coverings, original paintings and cool prints. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms are really high quality. The hotel is just ridiculously funky. Really cool bar, a photo booth, a couple of little restaurants, great wifi (finally a hotel with good enough wifi to keep up with it's guests!!). Staffwise, they are all exceptionally friendly and professional, if extreeeemely hipster :-) I would rather stay here than anywhere else in London I've tried so far.

Yelp
WOW! I wish Yelp had London 4 years ago I would have written something then. But as year past I totally forgot to write about this place. I love this place! This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in.. In LONDON that is.. I've been to London about 4/5 times and the last time I stayed was in this hotel. It was for my honeymoon! I loved it!!! Free breakfast if you wanted at your door!! Or shall I say hanging on your door knob. The place was Clean, modern and just with friendly people. They had great service and it's so close to the tub, which is a plus!! We got a great deal also for this place. I guess because they just opened. Great stay for people who want to visit London...

Yelp
Very nice room and the decoration/design of it is perfect for the small size and well you know.. you don't need more than that! The atmosphere of this hotel is awesome. The room service is ok it could be a little faster since I just order a cake but it's alright.. The shower there is GREAT! oh my god you do not want to leave it haha Internet is great and if you need any help or if you need to print something you can always go to the front desk and they will be more than happy to help you :) I had a very pleasant night there and I would come back for more for sure!

Yelp
This hotel is amazing. It's in the trendy area of Shoreditch so a lot of hipsters and hipster feel. Which I enjoy. The room was great. We were lucky enough to stay in one of their concept rooms and it was perfect. I love that they deliver fresh milk and water everyday and also give you the option of putting a bag marked for a light breakfast outside your door to be delivered in the morning- all included in your stay. It's the little things that count. The front desk was nice and helpful. Loved that they had a photo booth down in the lobby. Super fun. Again, the little things. Also, awesome that it is connected to a restaurant, that we ate at, at least one meal everyday, and a little cafe. It turns into somewhat of a lounge bar at night which was a lot of fun. I really felt that we never had to leave the hotel, we had everything that we needed there. If I were to make a suggestion though...I thought it was odd that even if you were staying at the hotel you didn't get dibs on any seats in the bar at night. I was told they are two separate owners and therefore no perks were included. Thought that somewhat sucked. The bar at night gets packed and hard to find a seat so it would of been another cool add on. Overall though, this place was amazing and will never stay anywhere else while visiting London. Oh! Also free wi-fi and it worked great!

Yelp
I think I found out about this gem from National Geographic Traveler and learned it had won some kind of award for best value. It was absolutely awesome. It's a little boutique hotel set a little away from central London, but it's still in Zone 1 on the Tube very close to the Old Street stop and about a mile from Liverpool stop. The neighborhood is Shoreditch, an up and coming area, with lots of cool boutiques, bars, restaurants, and easy access to more cool shops, thrift stores, and markets in the East End. Funky, hip foyer. All the employees are in ironic plaid shirts. Free local newspaper. The bar and restaurant were always hopping at night. Upstairs, the rooms were a tad on the small side compared to places in the US, but nice dark wood, a chaise, flat panel tv, coffeemaker w/coffee, plenty of outlets, small closet with a safety box that could fit my laptop, and a contemporary bathroom. The bed was comfortable. We really only used the room to sleep and occasional pop-ins for afternoon breaks before heading back out in the evening, but it was great. Breakfast was hung on your door - small, but filling serving of plain yogurt, granola, and berry preserves with OJ. Free milk and water in the mini-fridge in the closet. I did not get in on the 1 pound sale, but it was still a great deal at 77 pounds/night for a 5-night stay in April around Easter. I would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to London. They also offer meeting rooms and "day office" options for business people.

Yelp
After spending a summer traipsing around Europe, staying in hostels and budget hotels, the Hoxton was the ideal way to finish off my trip. I've had my share of disastrous hotels in shady areas and I am relieved to say that this is not one of them. The beds were luxuriously comfortable; I felt like i was sleeping on a cloud. Down comforters and down pillows cradled my exhausted body. The bathroom was GINORMOUS and stepping into the shower i felt all my tension and exhaustion get washed away by the gentle raindrops falling from that magnificent shower head. The fridge was always stocked with water and milk, most convenient--even though i don't drink milk it's comforting to know that it's there. And they had all the amenities i wish i had but wouldn't fit into my luggage while backpacking: a hairdryer, Internet, AND a flat-screen television! Their breakfast system is ingenious! You don't have to be obsessed with waking up early enough to get to the dining room to find a table. You don't even have to go anywhere. The hotel staff leaves a paper bag in your room and you circle the appropriate information, how many and what time you want your breakfast. It's a little on the lighter side, yogurt, fruit, and juice, but it does the trick. This place is ultra modern and the attention to detail is mind-blowing! They've thought about everything a guest might want and need.

Yelp
Their £1/night sales do sound too good to be true, but it's definitely legit--my friend and I snagged two of these £1 nights in an earlier sale. They just had another one for 500 rooms on Oct 1. Sign up for their email list so you can get in on the next one! Neighborhood/Getting There We found the location a little inconvenient for navigating the city, but the neighborhood and surrounding areas are worth a look. Definitely non-touristy, it has a 'broke but fabulous' vibe, like the neighborhood where you lived when you couldn't afford not to have a roommate. Spitalfields covered market is a 10 minute walk and we thoroughly enjoyed grazing the food stands, browsing through the stalls and people watching. Found some cute shops, sunny brunch spots and a pub with an outside plaque to honor its beloved mascot, Gizmo. Brick Lane is a bit further down and features some of London's tastiest and trendiest ethnic eats. This area also hosts a number of sample sales -- Orla Kiely regularly holds hers at the Old Truman Brewery. (Sorry ladies, you can't dump the boys off while you shop...it's closed.) Hotel and Staff Living up to its billing as an 'urban lodge', flaming double fires and colorful art work on exposed brick announce that you're headed for a different kind of chill. The deer head décor is creepy in a David Lynch kind of way, but it works. Don't expect the mostly European staff to flash the attitude found in other boutique hotels. They're extremely gracious and resourceful -- most come from top London hotels and enjoy making recommendations for restaurants, clubs and activities. I arrived around 10:00 am, was generously offered a conference room until check-in and used the free wireless (available throughout the hotel) to full advantage. Rooms are smallish, but feel luxe with Frette linens, down duvets/pillows, windows that open (yes!!!) and a flat screen TV. Request the complimentary breakfast and you'll wake up to a yummy bag of homemade yogurt w/granola and fresh squeezed orange juice hung on your door. Enjoy with tea from your kettle and real milk or bottled water (both free). We also enjoyed the Grille -- it actually turned around an awful dining experience at the much-ballyhooed and Michelin-starred Hakkasan restaurant (see the gory details in my other post). Here's a preview -- we blew our hotel savings on dinner, only to be scolded by a waiter and literally pushed into the cold London night when our 90 minutes was up. After trudging back to the Hoxton, we were starving and in need of comfort food and kindness. Our lovely Irish server tut tutted over our tale of woe and after a couple of vinos and bread pudding, all was again well with the world.

Yelp
Whenever I am out and about in Shoreditch, I will always use the Hoxton Hotel as a place for meetings. The bar area (The Hoxton Grille) is perfect for this and there is always a vibrant atmosphere. The actual hotel is very reasonable for somewhere so nice and the location is perfect. The waiting staff are wonderful and the cocktail menu is superb with a wide range of gorgeous drinks at great prices. The place is usually full of busy media types but the log fire, artwork and comfy sofas enable you to feel relaxed and at home.

Yelp
I was only able to stay for one night at the Hoxton, but I came away impressed - check in was quick and painless and the room was fantastic. Aside from a large, comfortable bed and a high-pressure shower, the room was filled with fun details that definitely brightened my day after an exhausting day of traveling (funny mugs, pop art pillows, a book shelf filled with actual books). There was also a free breakfast, which was actually substantial and tasty (and, best of all, delivered to my door!). The only downside (which is probably an upside a lot of the time) there's a popular restaurant and bar adjoining the lobby - this made for great room service, but it also made my second-floor room pretty noisy. Maybe request a room on a higher floor if you have any early morning meetings!

Yelp
*This review is for the bar only* I've been to the Hotel bar a handful of times in the past 2-3 years, and been impressed every time. It is the perfect place to start/end your night with perfect cocktails and cool vibe without trying super hard to be. Hotel bars are never cheap - but with this particularly trendy boutique hotel bar, you get a great, unique experience and lovingly crafted drinks for your money. The bartenders are excellently trained and skilled enough to create a drink for you based on things you like/don't like. They can talk shop about liquors and bitters and mescals and expertly describe a cocktail on the menu (I know, that should be a given but is surprisingly often not). I've taken nearly out of town friend here for a post-dinner drink and it never fails to make me look like hip in-the-know Londoner. Meanwhile I can sit in a lounge atmosphere, have a nice chat with them and feel like I'm in someone's cozy living room while their good friend who happens to be a top London DJ delights us with music perfectly attuned to the atmosphere. Win.

Yelp
Really fun boutique hotel in Shoreditch. I love the bar/restaurant/coffee bar in the lobby -- great neighborhood vibe. They even deliver a small bag of breakfast each morning at the time of your choice. Service was friendly and helpful. The rooms are very small with limited luggage space, but otherwise this is a great option in the area.

Yelp
Location is perfect - Shoreditch is THE trendy area. The hotel was always busy with a lobby filled with PYT thanks to the bar/lounge. Trendy, hipster and unpretentious. Stayed for 5 days with my boyfriend on a work/vacation trip. The room was charming. Bed was super comfy. We faced the street and had a view through tree branches so it was almost like being in a treehouse. Super charming!

Yelp
The first location of Hoxton Hotels, which have now expanded to new countries, is still running great. I have had to stays here. Both brilliant and with easy access to one of my favourites neighbourhood in London; Shoreditch and the eastern part of London. Yes, there are many hipsters here - but the food, the fashion, the shopping - most things can not be beaten. Service is mostly good. Rooms are really large, even if you are booking the smallest one. So are the bathrooms, the flatscreen TV. Everything is really nice.

Yelp
A wonderful boutique hotel in the City of London, 5 minute walk to nearest tube station (Old Street). Hotel has a fabulous restaurant that serves great food all day and a great bar that stays open late. Resturany staff are very professional, accommodating, and very friendly. The concierge are also friendly an extremely helpful! Rooms are super comfortable and clean! Always fresh milk and bottle water in the fridge. There is coffee and tea making station. Bathroom is spacious and clean with plenty of towels. The shower products are from Aveda and a generous bar of Pear soap. Free wifi in the rooms. Wifi is a bit sketchy in the lobby but there are computer terminals available. Bagged breakfast is availabe, which includes a bottle of orange juice, yogurt with granola and fruit, and a banana. Perfect for on the go visiting London!

Yelp
Great food during the day and loved the atmosphere on a Saturday evening. The reception turns into what seems like a different venue with a DJ, perfect for some pre night out drinks.

Yelp
I really like this hotel. The hotel staff were friendly and on arrival gave my b/f and I a map and info on the things to do in the surrounding area. The room we had was on the 1st floor. It was a good size and the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. There is also complimentary water and milk in the fridge and two different types of tea and coffee for you to have in your room. The bathroom was sleek and modern and the pressure in the shower was really good. I also loved the complimentary aveda products. The breakfast is from Pret and consisted of a banana, a yoghurt and fresh orange juice - great touch to have this included in the room price. The old street/hoxton area is really fantastic with an eclectic mix of bars/clubs and restaurants to all tastes

Yelp
A truly beautiful setting inside. I often see a lot of people having business meetings or just casually chilling and as it gets later in day having a drink. It's a really great interior that is moody and ambient. I've been in for some events too in some of the rooms and it's a labyrinth of doors that again have beautiful settings. I would say this is a great date night place to start or perhaps even end with. The hotel is certainly fantastic based on what friends have said and the location is indeed a factor in the heart of shoreditch surrounded by cool bars.

Yelp
I had a fantastic stay at the Hoxton hotel. I was looking for cheapish accommodation in the Shoreditch area and came across their website. I was really impressed by my room which had loads of character, especially compared to other similarly places hotels I had stayed in during my visit which were sterile and bland. There is a playfulness to it everything they do such as their Do Not Disturb signage. Chill-Out music played as I entered my room thanks to a vintage looking DAB radio. The breakfast bag is a nice touch (leave it outside your room for banana/smoothie/yoghurt pot), especially if you in a hurry. Staff at the hotel were very helpful letting me leave multiple bags with them after I checked out whilst I waited for my flight. I had a couple of drinks at the bar downstairs, and whilst they didn't have a huge selection there was a nice ambiance about the place.

Yelp
I very much miss the Hoxton hotel and cannot wait to get back. The staff was across the board fantastic. Food in the restaurant was great, as were late night cocktails. Our room was clean, comfortable, and a great retreat when we needed a break from all our wanderings. In my top three favorite places I have ever stayed!

Yelp
I suggest potential visitors to London seek accommodations at another hotel in the area. The Hoxton is hip and nice, but they are extremely lacking in the customer service department, which is a shame given the otherwise nice accommodations and the fact that hotels are fundamentally in the service industry. My phone was stolen out of my hand while standing in the doorway to the hotel the fourth night of my trip. The front doors had been locked, a security feature which I appreciate the need for (certainly given that my phone was stolen in the hotel's doorway), but had not been told to me upon checking in. I was attending a conference and asked other friends staying at the hotel and they were not told the doors locked either. If I had known the doors locked, I would have had my key out ahead of time and not been standing vulnerable in the doorway late at night. After my phone was taken and I found my key, I went to alert the front desk (for clarity, the hotel has a glass front and there were two men at the front desk - I guess they did not see me standing outside looking for my key but in any event they did not try to help me get inside either before or after my phone was stolen). The front desk asked me if it was someone on a moped that took my phone (it was) and said it had been happening in the area. Still more information I would have appreciated having before my phone was stolen. The front desk called management rather than the police. I had to request the police be called after I realized the first call made was to management rather than the police. The front desk was completely unhelpful in assisting me with finding somewhere to obtain a replacement phone. They told me I could "try to find an apple store". How I was to do that with no phone I am not certain. The next day I went to a neighboring hotel (the Rosewood) and their concierge personally walked me to a cell phone shop less than a block from the Hoxton and helped me obtain a temporary replacement. To be clear - I was not staying at the Rosewood, but their staff was more helpful to me than the Hoxton staff. The front desk told me that the day crew would be completely appraised of the situation, but the next day when I went to ask if there had been any update from the police, the woman working the desk had not heard about the incident and in fact asked me if I was at the correct hotel. I asked for the manager, who did have knowledge of the incident. The manager apologized for the incident and asked if there was anything she could do. I told her that I thought it would be helpful in the future to alert guests that the front door locks at night to avoid others being in a similar, vulnerable position. I told told her it would be helpful to give guests a warning that moped thieves had been taking phones in the area. I also suggested that the front desk have a plan if something similar happens in the future, which I suggested include calling the police first and foremost and then practically helping the customer to replace lost/stolen items. She became defensive and said she was sorry my phone was taken but (i) the hotel had done all it could (ii)they would cooperate with police and (iii) did I need anything else? I emailed the corporate office upon receipt of a survey to provide my feedback. I received a similar response and an offer to "use me as a personal contact should your travel plans bring you back to London so that I can personally make your reservation for you." While what happened to me is admittedly unique, the hotel's handling of the incident left me feeling extremely unsatisfied, vulnerable and upset. I do not blame them for my phone being taken, but I do think that much of what they did up to and after that point was far less than I would expect of a hotel of the caliber Hoxton holds itself out as. Maybe come here for dinner or a drink, but I'd steer clear of the hotel as a guest.

Yelp
My work rented a conference room here for a weekend retreat. It's a hip and pretty conference space. It's got hipster art and a gorgeous conference space that has a kitchen and a big communal table. My coworker ordered us breakfast, lunch and snacks for both days. We had to remind the staff about each meal. Often the meals were given to us an hour after the scheduled times. There was a general lack of professionalism and communication. It was like they'd never had tons of calls and emails to plan the weekend. That said, the food was delicious. I loved the Cesar salad, quinoa salad, chicken sandwiches, and brownies. I'm not sure what their deal is, but management needs to seriously consider their strategy.

Yelp
I miss London already! Had an amazing stay at The Hoxton. From the moment you enter the lobby, you feel the great energy of the hotel. The rooms are well decorated, there is music playing as you walk in, making it instantly comfortable. The bathrooms are very clean and modern. The bed is really comfortable. The free water and breakfast bag in the morning is a huge plus. The bar/restaurant downstairs is nice and everyone is extremely helpful! OH and the best part? I forgot some jewelry in the room after check out and they shipped it all the way to Los Angles for me! There were so many good things, I can't wait to make it back to London to stay here again!!

Yelp
A bed for your head? Look no further than the Hoxton Hotel. After business (and pleasure) travel spanning the last 6 or so years, I can firmly say that Hoxton Hotel knows exactly how to please a guest at this price point. And what is that price point!? A mere £89 for a Sunday night in which I found myself temporarily homeless between flying in and receiving keys to my new flat (which is thankfully right up the street...can we all say "SEND THE IN-LAWS here!?) Yes, I can. In fact, this was significantly cheaper than the nearby Holiday Inn Express, which I also checked. And 1000x more excellent. The booking is quite easy through their website, and while you are there...sign up for their £1 rooms. Yes, every couple of months they release rooms for £1, and then when those sell out...upwards to £19 or £29. I mean really, it's a great way to maybe snag a room at a steal. They also do this with their meeting rooms (I called recently about hosting a meeting) and though it didn't work out for me this time, if you're a meeting planner...JUMP ON IT. I arrived travel weary and ready for a much-needed horizontal nap with a real pillow. I dreaded the "your room is not ready" line, but shouldn't have worried. It was only 1230 but my room was ready and I was quickly checked in amongst the busy weekend crowd (The Hoxton Grill and cafe/lounge area are quite happening), given quick instructions on how to achieve my free breakfast bag (what!? more on that later) then made a beeline for zzzzzz's. My room was just perfect, and large by Euro-standards, even moreso by London's. A nice fluffy double bed, fairly spacious bathroom with shower (and counter space!), a full desk with easy free wifi connection, complimentary coffee, tea and FRESH MILK and cold water in the fridge. I mean, they know me. They must. Fresh milk for my coffee? Heaven sent. I wanted to kiss them. Room service: a nice black bean burger, side salad and sweet potato soup arrived to my room 15 minutes after I ordered it by a friendly gal. And, the damage? £20. Seriously not bad at all compared to other hotel room service charges. The food was excellent, too (from the grill downstairs). Ah, the breakfast bag! Just mark that you'd like a breakfast bag delivered to your door by hanging the brown bag/tag outside by 2am (or something) and then when you open your door upon waking an OJ, yogurt cup/granola and banana will be waiting for you. Goes well with a fresh cup of joe and fresh milk, eh!? YEAH! I enjoyed a latte in the lounge and its quite the scene. A mix of travelers and Shoreditch revelers. Very nice live music on a Sunday afternoon. Popular place. Table service, nice touch. There's even a photobooth (£3), free papers, business center, etc. If I have any reason to stay in a hotel a few blocks from my home again, THIS will be it. I may even just wait for the deal rooms and have myself a staycation away from chores and dog hair. Who knows!? The possibilities are endless. If you're visiting London, on a budget and don't like to spare the luxury...look up a room at the Hoxton Hotel, I am almost 100 percent sure you will not be disappointed. Also, bonus on the well done decor.

Yelp
Stay here! You cannot beat the value that you get at the Hoxton. It is located in the hip, artsy East End and it's a cool hangout where you might even see a celebrity or two. Best of all - you will get a room here for cheap. Yes, that's cheap in US dollars. London is soooooo expensive and after you convert to American dollars it is downright insane. When I stayed there the room was about $100 a night. This is a modern hotel - not a hostel folks. The pictures on the website give an accurate portrayal of the vibe and decor. The hotel is about a 3 min walk from the Tube, it is about a 5 minute walk from Brick Lane, a 7 minute walk from the Columbia Road Flower Market and a 10 minute walk from the Barbican. What's more - you are very close to Whitechapel - the scene of the Jack the Ripper tragedy........ Stay here!

Yelp
You've gotta be kidding me, right? £1.00? For a room? Here? I get to stay here? I can check in, enjoy your rock-paper-scissors pillows, free internet, waterfall showers, hip lighting, and the best of the best free breakfasts - a Pret meal delivered on my door handle? For £1? No tax? Listen to me right now dear yelpers, I'm only doing this because I love you, and I'll only do it this once: 1. Go to hoxtonhotels.com 2. Click on the tab for "The £1 Sale" 3. Wait for the email 4. Snag your £1 room 5. Enjoy your delicious room and breakfast You may get stuck with a £29 room. Oh the shame...

Yelp
I'll start out by saying that no I have never spent the night here. I've used it for training and meetings and business stuff (oh what an important person I am with my business and stuff! ;O)) and it was absolutely fantastic. They have a selection of meeting rooms that range in sizes are all a little bit quirky, with free paper and pencils and important business things like that. What I loved about this place is how welcome they made us feel there, we could help ourselves to the food selection in the kitchen area and they didn't keep count of the number of cans of diet coke I drank, they also let us stay late and were oh so friendly. This hotel is doing something right as all its staff are happy and helpful and generally beautiful people. If you are looking to impress even the fussiest of people and you need a meeting room, this would be my first choice recommendation!

Yelp
This place is a hotel?! Ahha. Yeah that may explain the reception-like desk I remember seeing on the left hand side and my confusion at the guys arriving with backpacks. Mystery solved! In my defence, we were already 'warmed up' when we wandered in here. It's a good end-of-the-night type bar, open refreshingly late (/early?!) for people to have a few for the road and figure out how to get home (unless you're staying here obv, then it's pretty easy). No queue plus no door charge = extra late night win! It's not like any hotel lobby bar you're probably picturing, and I like its laidback vibe. Hipster contingent is out in force enough for it to be buzzing without looking like it's trying very hard, and there's still enough room to squish through to the bar then perhaps nab some comfy sofa space. 3 other things I remember that earn them bonus points: 1) there's a DJ, 2) there's a fireplace (who doesn't love a good fireplace?!), and 3) there's a barman with a smile to die for (I'm not usually the swoon-at-first-glance type but I was helpless in smiling back at those dimples like an idiot until my mate reminded me of our order). Very smooth...!

Yelp
I stayed here for a week-long business trip, but personally found this hotel infuriating. I started getting bit by bed bugs immediately and by the 3rd night had to have them switch my room. That would've been enough to write a bad review, but there are many other reasons to pass on this hotel. The free WiFi is spotty and slow. The rooms are very small and take a fashion-y, minimalist approach -- which would be great if they still had some basic conveniences. The layout of the rooms isn't very comfortable. Everything is situated at odd angles, so there's no room to really put anything without it being in the way. There's no washcloths or electrical outlet in the bathroom, nor a dresser. So if you're staying for more than a couple days and want to unpack, you get 4 hangers in a make-shift half-closet to put away any clothes. I didn't have a phone in my room either, which at first I thought was part of the minimalist concept. But then on day 3 one miraculously appeared by the bed. So maybe it was an oversight? Anyway, my "newly renovated room" had wood floors that were so slippery I nearly fell down 4 different times and had to catch myself on the chair or bed. The floor also had sharp nail heads sticking out of some of the boards that I had to actively avoid or I'd snag a sock or puncture a toe. Also the staff has a tendency to barge into the room. They just knock quickly and open the door. More than once this happened when I was dressing and had to leap over the bed, yelling "don't come in." The complimentary breakfast comes in a cute little bag that you place outside your room at night. But a couple nights it was simply gone in the morning. The restaurant and lounge area downstairs are pretty cool though. Very comfy and good food. Overall I would say this hotel is a decent concept, but needs some fine-tuning to be a comfortable stay. I would be wary to recommend it for business travelers.

Yelp
On this occasion I have to give the Hoxton a 3 but there was enough on offer to make me want to go back and check it out again. The hotel is super hipster with a great bar, restaurant and chilled out relaxed dining room - plus it's very centrally located just near Old Street Tube station (2 mins walk) My room was really well presented in a kind of lower east side look and the bathroom was clean and spacious. I also enjoyed hanging out for coffee downstairs and drinking in the Hoxton grill bar which has a late licence. The reason I'm giving it a 3 is that I had an ice cold shower the first day there and although it was fixed by the plumber later in the day, it was still a really unpleasant experience in such an upmarket and expensive place. The other prob was that in room 202, the wifi reach was so poor that my MacBook could hardly load a page let alone watch a movie on Netflix so this put my late evening plans to an end. Without these 2 massively frustrating issues, I'm sure I'd give the Hoxton a much better rating of a 4, possibly on the way to a 4.5

Yelp
Thank you Yelp! Exactly what you need, nothing that you don't. Loved the proximity of this hotel to the Old Street line. Traveling with luggage, it wasn't a far walk from the station to the hotel. Warning, though, that some of the subway stations do not have ramps, so you'll have to drag your suitcase(s) up some flights of stairs, depending on your destination. If you pay attention to the handicap symbols on the subway map, you might be able to navigate around this. Very discreet sign on the hotel, so make sure you peek at the photos on Yelp and know the address that you are searching for. The energy in the lobby is awesome with the fireplaces and delicious martinis. What a great place to relax. We took our laptops to the lobby and enjoyed the atmosphere while using the wifi to plan our daily itinerary. Our room was new, modern and extremely clean. I am allergic to feathers, and they were able to accommodate with synthetic pillows and duvet. As others have posted, a simple brown bag breakfast from "Pret a Manger", which is a deli-style chain located down the street. We actually visited "Pret a Manger" several times during our stay in London....love their food and their philosophy. Will definitely stay at The Hoxton again. Attention U.S. credit card holders: Be sure to pay with a Capital One credit card to avoid being charged a foreign transaction fee by your credit card company. As of this posting, Capital One is the only card that doesn't charge the extra fee. Also, many small businesses around London will not accept a U.S. credit card because the card does not have a chip in it that requires a PIN number. See this link for further explanation: http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-news/outdated-smart-card-chip-pin-1273.php

Yelp
I spent three days with colleagues using the meeting rooms at the Hoxton hotel. The service and facilities here are first rate and everything from the entrance lounge to the bathrooms are well tended and luxurious. The meeting rooms which are air conditioned contain everything you need for a meeting. There was a flipchart, pads, pencils, and an LCD projector. The wifi connection was reliable and fast, and the multitude of plugs to recharge laptops came in handy. You get full access to the kitchen that stocks pastries in the morning and cakes in the afternoon. You can choose from a selection of fruit and all manner of hot and cold beverages all day. A special mention must go to the lady who looked after the meeting room reception. She was absolutely fabulous, always smiling and willing to help us with anything we needed. Rates are variable depending on your needs, but for what we requested, the price was excellent value. INSIDER TIP! Keep an eye out for £1 room sales in July 2009. If you miss those you may be lucky to snatch the next best thing: a room for £29. Be warned, they sell out in minutes.

Yelp
I stayed here for two nights in July. I had stayed the week before at a hotel in Paddington station, and coming to this hotel was jarring, to say the least. First off, by this time, I had become best friends with the London Underground. So, of course, I thought nothing of lugging my gigantic suitcase and rolling laptop bag onto the tube to head toward checking in at the hotel. Well, don't do that. The closest station to the Hoxton Hotel is Old Street, and there is no escalator for part of the station and absolutely no elevator. This woman took pity on me and helped me carry my suitcase up a long flight of stairs. She said, don't worry, there's an escalator on this platform. The escalator took me the rest of the way up to the street level. From there, it was an OK/pretty easy walk to the hotel. The air conditioning in the lobby was sorely lacking. It was so hot outside, and it was so hot inside. I basically fell into my room. My hot room. Turns out you have to have the key put into this thingy in order for the air conditioning to turn on. So the air conditioning was not on until I got in there. Two hours later, I'm still sweating and don't have the energy to sight-see. Plus, the air conditioner was very ineffective. I had it all the way up, but it never got very cool in the room. I asked them if they could do anything. They said no and suggested I open my windows. Bleh. Also, the rooms are so small that my large suitcase had nowhere to go. I tripped on it constantly. Oh, and the pillows should be called sheets with a speck of padding. I'm trying to think of good things to say. They have a cute breakfast thing where they give you an orange juice, banana and small thing of yogurt every morning. They hang it outside your door at the time you request. Their choice of TV stations was really good. Normally I wouldn't know this because I would be out sightseeing constantly, but that first day I just couldn't move. OK, another good thing. Their Wifi worked really well, and it remembered me. I didn't have to keep signing in. Here's a shout-out to Carla, who works at the reception desk. My charger cord died, and as it was in the evening, there was nowhere to buy a new one. When I was asking about where to get one the next morning, she says to me, do you want me to charge it for you? I almost hugged her. So nice of her to offer something so sweet. She also pointed me toward where I could buy one the next day. Basically, if you're the hipster type with little luggage and don't need an escalator or elevator in the tube station or you plan to take a taxi or something, you might like this place. But it wasn't for me.
