This is a fun, down to earth neighborhood bar with friendly regulars. Great 420 friendly backyard with picnic tables. LBGQT friendly. Pool table, pinball and board games. They do not serve food but people often bring take out from nearby Chinese or sandwiches from the Deli. They take Cash only but there is an ATM on premise. If you're looking for a place in Sunnyside to make local friends or just chill out and have a few drinks, this is the spot.

Drinks are extremely overpriced for a dive this grimy (drafts are $9 now, the other reviews are outdated) and the ac was broken, so it was hot as hell. There are much better options in the area, stay clear of here.

Great mixed drinks!! Lovely place for tourists

3 words.."not going back". I didn't see any options for food. So I'm confused about that part. The bartender wasn't attentive. The environment was a little hostile but that's not the bartenders fault even though I didn't feel comfortable. The drinks are expensive for how horrible they are. The only thing I liked was the cleanliness and music box. Didn't stay long. There was one guy there that usto work there, so he said. He was very obnoxious and disrespectful. More for the "usuals" people type of vibe. They need to step up their game if they want to make more money. The bar has the potential to be even better. Maybe learn to make a good cocktail, be aware of customers, and better bar lights. Have a karaoke night and some specials would be nice.

Worst spot in the neighborhood. Bartenders go to the Bolivian Llama street dining hut and pee in it after hours.

Incredible dive bar with great vibes, affordable drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. Awesome yard and you might be lucky enough to be served by the owner, Jason who is very likeable. Patronize this business!!!

The perfect 'dive' bar. Cheap drinks, great well whiskey, great music with a jukebox to boot. Pool table, darts, backyard, and bartenders are generous with buybacks if you end up a regular. It's cash only, but there's an ATM in the back. 100% recommend. Jason, Chris and Joan are excellent bartenders.

I give this place 3 stars because I think even the regulars would be miffed if they got more than that. OK. Dive bar: these are getting more rare so if you haven't ever been to one, check it out. 4 dollar domestic drafts. Dollar off of everything before 7 pm. I don't think they are pint glasses and the beer is not too cold. There is a pool table. People play pool. There are tv's. Generally with a sports ball on it. It is dark and you can imagine that at some point everyone who walked in there was a smoker. They don't smoke in there now, at least while they are open for business. Very friendly people, and worth a trip if you want a taste of what things used to be like.

A strong dive bar with good drink deals, a pool table and a welcoming bartender. But it definitely feels like a place where the owner's friends hang out but not many others. Granted, we went around 8 on a Friday, so not exactly peak hours. We were the only non-owner's-group patrons. The group there wasn't hostile in any way, but it made us feel very out of place. (I was also the only female in the bar) The bartender was very funny and chatty and the beer was good. I probably won't come here again alone or as just a pair, though with a good group in tow this could be a great place to hang out.

Friendly neighborhood staple. Their backyard patio space creates a very relaxing ambiance and they have great beer & shot deals as well as good pitcher prices. The inside has pool, a jukebox, and some arcade games. They fire up a grill in the back each Memorial Day and Fourth of July which is a lot of fun.

Best place for cheap beers / shots in sunnyside. Has a pool table, and is dog friendly. Not much more I could ask for.

Was vacationing in the area and heard the Jar Bar was a good place to take a break and relax from the hustle and bustle of the city, that it's like the living room of Queens. We'll i guess in a sense that's true, it took me over half an hour just to order a beer at the bar with no line because the bartender was to busy sitting at the bar and not working it. When he finally got up i asked why he'd just sat there watching me. He said it was funny to watch me getting annoyed and all i had to do was magically know he was the one working and come to him directly. Guess only locals are regulars are welcome. The rest of my time there, he was extremely rude and in no way helpful. It took asking three times what his name is (Marco or Marcus?)so I'd know who to ask for specifically if I ever came back. If you haven't already been and made friends with the staff, I wouldn't bother trying to start now.

Crazy ass dive bar in Sunnyside with a small patio in the back. This place doesn't serve food, but you can order in. Happy hour on weekdays starts from noon to seven. Today we stop by for beer. They offer $10 a pitcher for commercial beer, and $16 for those snobbish beers, which is great compared to Bohemian Hall. You know which one I picked, right? They do have some good beer selection here though. The nice lady, Catherine who has a lovely Irish accent bartends here; she makes you feel so welcomed. I will definitely stop by this place again. By the way, you stink for taking cash only!

I have been in the neighborhood for years and have got to say the owner of Jar Bar, Jason, is an amazing and friendly bartender. He runs his establishment with an old school neighborhood bar feel and it's amazing to have right here in the area. Plus backyard seating! Pool Table! Darts?? Chill vibe.

Its nice to see a real bar for a change. Bring me back to the neighborhood a decade back. There's too many gentrified establishments in the neighborhood IMHO. friendly service, friendly people, warm and unpretentious. Happy hour is noon -7 pm and they have a late night happy hour as well. Good selection. $5 jar and shot. Pool table, dart board, pinball and outdoor seating too.

Silent dead bar with a super rude bartender. I think he was racist as well, as I am a brown guy and I asked him quarters in exchange for a dollar which he said he didn't have. Next I see he is giving out quarters to other group of people coming in. Then I asked him again for quarters so he said you need to buy drinks first, lmao I already did buy 2 beers 10 minutes ago. What a douche

I was in the area to meet a friend and he suggested this place to grab a drink. Great dive bar that is off the beaten path. There are other businesses in the area but no other bars on the particular block. The bar is off to the right when you walk in. There are a few tables to the left. There is a digital jukebox and the bar widens out once you get past the bar. There is a pool table with plenty of room to move around the pool table to take shots without hitting something behind you. There is also a beer garden out back which is great for the smokers. Great overall vibe for a bar.

I love me a good dive bar - but to be honest - it's more of a neighborhood bar. Which is great since it's in my neighborhood. The bartender made us feel at home, poured an excellent Guinness and made us want to come back. Happy Hour from noon to 7? Kiss Pinball? Good music? Grab some food from Cemitas El Tigre two doors down and bring it in. Or they have a grill in the back garden that we were told people could use. The beer selection could use a little help. Maybe swap out a miller/coors/Bud with a good craft beer or two? Of if not on tap maybe in bottles? It looks a bit odd on the outside, but give it a chance - you will definitely come back.

The Jar Bar is a really good local watering hole. The drink deals are excellent, and the bartenders are warm and friendly. Of course, when you're here, you've got to get the "jar and shot" deal - a jar of beer (a little over 8oz, at least as I can eyeball it) and a shot for $5. What makes this combo excellent, however, is that you can choose ANY tap beer for the jar, including Ommegang and Lagunitas! Bonus points too for the pool table, outdoor patio, and the quirky Kiss pinball machine. Oh, and it's usually open to 3/4am. I definitely will be coming back to start (or end) my night out.

Although I live a block away, I only "fell" into this place a few weeks ago. It is entirely non-descript. I actually thought it was a private club house type of deal and so never bothered to enter it! It is as divey as dive bars go. If you want something chic, don't go here. Truly, the charm is in its unpretentiousness. There's no school like the old school, you know? The crowd is mostly Irish locals and regulars, and there is a good age range here. And they are the nicest people you could ever meet. The bartender too, is completely cool. You can't get more community than Leitrim House. So happy I found it.

I like this place enough to have been several times, but I am removing two stars-- it's cash only, so be mindful of that. Also, their cocktails (I had vodka soda with splash of cran) are made with syrup and low quality. I guess that's what you get at a dive. In addition, there are some pretty shady people that hang out here. Older white dudes that started shit with my fiancé (he is West Indian and I'm white, they singled him out, we can't help but think it is due to his skin color -- not cool!). The best thing about this place is the patio and the decor inside.

What a great local bar. Discovered this place on Yelp as on of the dive bars near Sunnyside (technically it is in Woodside because it is on the south side of 48th Ave). A little bit older crowd, but very friendly, chatty, and welcoming. The place has a pool table but it was covered with a sheet of ply wood because they had a make-shift buffet set up for one of the regular's birthday. There is also a shuffle board bowling game, but it looks like it is out of commission. Then there are two electronic games in the back but I didn't take much time to investigate. Beers are around 4-5 bucks and whiskey starts at $6. The bartender was fantastic. I'll go back to Leitrim just to see him.

Love our new lil neighborhood joint!!! So this bar is less than a block from our apartment.. We peeked in the window one night and kept walkin... This bar is under new ownership which we just happened to notice and man has it cleaned up!! Super chill, no frills dive bar with great prices, a nice little patio area and super friendly bartender. Jason made us feel right at home! We have for sure found our new neighborhood bar. $5 beer and "jar" special (any draught beer), little back garden, juke box, pool table, I'm in.

Beautiful people beautiful vibe and experienced bare tenders that's are proficient in their beer and alcohol knowledge . Very clean and neat bar. Music low and soothing . Very patience bartenders and cute too .

After noticing the name changed to The Jar Bar a few weeks ago I decided to stop in on a Saturday afternoon around 4 to see what was going on. First impression was that it's a nice local spot where the regulars make you feel welcome. Being on 48th ave as opposed to Queens boulevard I'm guessing everyone that comes here is a regular to some degree. I'm pretty sure no one would go out of their way to come here but it was pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon when there wasn't much going on. The Jar Bar has 9 taps (bud,shock top,goose island,palm,sam adams,coors banquet, miller lite,smithwicks and of course guinness), along with a few bottles offers a nice selection but nothing to go crazy over. Prices seem reasonable with $5 imports pints and well drinks and $3.50 domestic pints according to the sandwich board propped up outside the front door. The bartender was warm and friendly and got me my drink as soon as I walked up to the bar. The interior is low key with a 12 stool bar, a few tables table tops along with an Internet Jukebox, joker poker machines and pool table and flat screen T.V.'s showing the Mets and Yankee games. On a side note, I think the old school bowling machine game they also have tucked away in the corner is a real bonus! It's hard to find those types of bar games around today, especially in this area. I'm sure I'll be dumping plenty of money into it after a few pints of Goose Island. Another big plus of the Jar Bar is the shaded outdoor patio with a few chairs and picnic table. Unfortunately, the space isn't that large and seems to be surrounded by some pretty unkept yards but any outdoor space you can find in queens to have a drink is good in my book. The spanish music coming from the apartment building behind the bar actually enhanced the sitting out back experience which I found kind of funny. All in all I'm happy to know that this place is close to the old homestead and can see myself stopping in on occasion.

Really cute dive bar off the beaten path in Sunnyside. If you're looking for a quiet place filled with regular patrons, this is it. We stopped in early on a Saturday evening and we managed to get two seats at the bar. Everyone was glued to the TVs above the bar, which was simply playing local news. We obviously went for the jar special, which includes a cute jar of draft beer as well as a shot of anything from the well. They have plenty of standard beer choices, but for the craft folks (like myself) they had Goose Island, Ommegang, and Southern Tier on tap. We stuck with bourbon for our shots, which apparently is a popular choice around these parts. The crowd thinned out a bit as it got later, and it was never too loud. There's a pool table as well, if that's your thing. There's outside seating which I bet is great for cool summer evenings. We will most certainly be coming back here soon!

Good neighborhood bar with a friendly staff. Didnt have any of the Jar specials but prices were average for a Queens bar. I would stop in if you happen to be in the neighborhood but I won't make a special trip to visit.

The Guinness is not a true pint. It's the 16 oz. Yet they still charge 7 bucks for it. Not cool.

No giant jenga or cups for beer pong/flip cup as advertised. No tabs or cards accepted. Bartender favored certain customers. Not a bad place but was disappointing after reading everything on here.

It's better now that the new owner fixed it up a bit.nice people from neighborhood this been going for decades.tje owner is quite a nice man . Catherine, the bartender been there for awhile now, Allen is a really nice and great guy,he also bartenders there. Nice dive bar.

Love the atmosphere and the people very laid back I highly recommend this place the beer garden is great so are the get together such as ladies night can't beat the drink specials ! The barbecues are really good too you get to hang out with old friends and also make new ones .The bartenders are very attentive love this bat!

One of my alltime favorite places always a great crowd, lots of locals and many new faces, great backyard, bbqs, and get togethers, your never alone when you go to the jar everyone is terrific. Great owner great tenders, Great music and the people are terrific.

1st thing I have to say is this place is super chill. Everyone is laid back and comfortable. From the pictures on the wall to the well designed chalk board behind the bar, I dig this place. The bar looks complete which is different than most bars in the area. Plus, they have a pool table and an outdoor space. This is my new favorite bar. Only negative is the beer choices are limited but it's not really a beer bar anyway.

Sadly Im a semi regular in this dive as well. NOT BY MY CHOICE! My boyfriend is a bit more of a regular here and only because of location and one of the bartenders is his friend. Its REALLY a neighborhood place! While I am in Woodside.. I am from the wrong side of the tracks.

Love this bar. The price is amazing and the people are very friendly. It's kind of far away from (3 block from queens blvd) but definitely worth it for it's price. Has a pool table and various bar games to play.

Went to the Jar on a Tuesday night and was awesome! Darts, pool, shuffleboard/mini-bowling.. Danny, the Irish bartender was the best! I'm picky about bars but this def is the most chill place sunnyside has to offer

This is a "good" old local gin mill......not a pub ...if you want to see how bars use to be this is the place...the Locals are friendly.....like the corner candy store the gin mill will be replaced with upscale pubs......this is the place where they "keep it real".... PS prices are a bargain...
