"The Kirkland Tap & Trotter was a casual, family-friendly restaurant in Somerville opened by Chef Tony Maws in September 2013. It featured wood-fired grill cooking, a popular burger, a full-animal butchery approach, local craft beers, creative cocktails, and wine. It was known for hosting charity fundraisers and family dinner nights. The restaurant closed down after service on Saturday, July 20, following a nearly six-year run. Chef Tony Maws attributed the closure to unsustainable revenues and expressed gratitude to those who supported the restaurant." - Dana Hatic

"Google tells us that a trotter is a part of a pig, so it makes sense that this spot on the Cambridge-Somerville border is a great option for grilled meats. The spiced half chicken and swordfish are outstanding, but you’ll be fine with anything that’s been cooked near the fire. The vegetable dishes are well done, too, making this a great, casual spot to hang with friends or bring kids if you have them." - Dan Secatore

Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The menu was fairly eclectic with an excellent beer selection - good seasonal dishes and a nice mix of entrees and food. I ordered fried pickles to start and udon noodle bowl for my main. The fried pickles were delicious and doughier than I'm used to, but very good. The noodle bowl was seasoned well and hit the spot on a cold winter day. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the service was excellent. Would definitely be back.

I left this place full on delicious food. It was easy to make my meal low carb and keto friendly. I definitely recommend if you want a good environment to catch up with friends over tasty food. Also, the staff was very accommodating and friendly.

Love this place. The Golden Greek is currently my favorite cocktail and I'm sure all the food there is great but I always get the Lamb Burger. Time after time. What can I say? When you know, you know. The bar is also a solid spot for solo dining. Bar staff is great too; another reason I keep coming back.

Overall a very mediocre food experience. Both the Shakshuka and the rice bowl were underseasoned and the eggplant garnish on the rice bowl was charred to the point of being inedible. The food did come out promptly and the atmosphere was convivial and very neighborhood-like. Perhaps just a rough brunch (it was just after graduation week). The service staff was nice especially the hostess who even bussed our table when the server was busy with other guests.

Best chicken I've ever had. I ordered the pork chop, which was well seasoned and perfectly cooked, but the bit of chicken I had from my partner's plate made me forget all about it. The chicken and pork chop were both cooked to just the right tenderness all the way through, with a wonderful crust. The chicken was falling off the bone, with crispy skin, and nice seasoning. Snap peas were a nice side, and the coffee whiskey affogato was a perfect finish. Dry and Smoky balanced the vanilla nicely. It's pricy, but felt like a good value. The staff were very nice, and it felt like they went out of their way to make it a nice evening, even though we came in without a reservation. I was pleasantly surprised, and I'm really looking forward to returning.

I got the brunch bowl with pork belly added and I split a salad with my partner. Both dishes were not seasoned enough, very basic flavors (almost bland). Also the napkins were DUSTY AS HECK along with their cups and the wooden bowl used for my salad (could be a case by case thing). Very disappointed, and the only reason why I did not rate 1 star was because the server and host were very nice 👍🏻. Also for the price...would one want to pay ~$10 for small bowl of arugula with ~5 pecans, some salt, olive oil, and lemon juice...🤔

Their brunch was good - it didn’t blow me away as I was anticipating but I liked the creative take on the shakshuka with pumpkin! I would like to go back and try other options.

Everything was delicious! I had the burger and my husband the steak tips. They also have a good selection of local beers.
