Wow, this was our best and most delightful dinner ever in Shreveport. On top of that, the dining venue was itself very interesting and historic - the Mabry House, a well preserved and maintained mansion built in 1902. The restaurant has been in business for 14 years and our server Joey has been there from day one. It feels like a quiet hidden gem, but at the same time, the restaurant does seem to be well known as one of Shreveport's finest. Once you get onto Irving Place street, you would not guess there is a restaurant nearby, as the street is darkish and quiet, and their convenient parking lot is tucked away at the side and back and hidden by trees. The mom and pop owner couple (we did not meet) apparently came from Marshall, TX where they also conducted a successful restaurant business in a mansion and brought the concept to Shreveport. They have a fine dining menu (and commensurate but not exorbitant prices) and menu selections and flavors are creative. They have three smallish and quaint dining rooms as well as a Chef's table by the kitchen. So, for our meals, we had between us two appetizers and three entrees. The appetizers were crawfish cheesecake and tempura soft shell crab - both delectable. The crawfish had a nice red and green tomato relish topping that complimented the flavor of the cheesecake shaped crawfish mix. The tempura crab used a "pickled ginger butter" and the ginger flavor was subtle, creative, and tasty. For our mains, son had lamb chops special (very generous portions with 8 ribs for $43.95), wife had their branzino (a sea bass) and crab special ($38.95), and I had their maple bacon glazed bone-in pork chop ($29.95). Every dish was really very nicely done and excellent, but the seafood dish was the best we all agreed as it was so meaty and fresh. Both the lamb chops and pork chops were also delicious, with the only feedback that the sauces on both were just a tad on sweet and filling side once all done. Overall, a great dining outing here for us, and a highly recommended place for that special occasion or celebration dinner. Also, don't be in a rush if you come here - our dinner for three lasted 1 hour, 45 minutes (without desserts) but that was fine by us.
