The Meatball Shop Review - Lower East Side - New York - The Infatuation

"It’s always a challenge for us to properly rate an establishment that specializes in one thing. Our rating system is a complex algorythm (developed during my tenure at MIT), that assigns numeric values to countless variables like food quality, menu options, service, atmosphere, and the probability that you will get laid after dinner. It’s science. What we have noticed though, is that a lack of variables consistently produces the same result...most of the restaurants that specialize in one thing earn high marks from us. The following evidence supports our hypothesis: Burger Joint, Luke’s Lobster, Bark Hot Dogs, Flex Mussels, and Caracas. Another test of this theory brings us to The Meatball Shop, a restaurant on the Lower East Side operating with the sole purpose of turning out ridiculously good meatballs and presenting you a few options in which to consume them. There are meatball sandwiches, meatball sliders, meatballs in sauce, and meatballs on pasta. Other than a few sides and a nice wine list...that’s it. The result? We love it. A concept that could easily have been a divey storefront serving late night heroes is instead a wonderfully executed and surprisingly nice restaurant where you can enjoy a glass of wine while you get fatter by the meatball. The staff is friendly, it’s a lively atmosphere, and the food is solid. Another specialist restaurant beats our formula. Oh well. We suck at math anyway. Food Rundown The Meatballs We’ll kick this off by tackling the meatballs on their own. The pork is by far the best, followed by the beef and the lamb (if available). The chicken meatballs are unimpressive, and the salmon one freaked me out. They are all relatively light, though eat too many and you will feel it in your gut for a day at least (trust us). While nice on their own, these meatballs are best showcased in a sandwich, rather than simply in sauce or atop a bowl of pasta. Meatball Hero Served on a baguette with your choice of ball, sauce, cheese, and bread type. Our favorite is pork, spicy meat sauce, and provolone on whole wheat. Possibly the perfect meatball sandwich. The only knock we have is that we’d like some more kick from that spicy meat sauce. Meatball Smash Two meatballs served on a brioche bun. A bit smaller than the hero with the same options, and still very good. We prefer the hero to the smash simply because the baguette holds up a little better. This got soggy pretty quickly. Sliders A nice way to sample the goods, we absolutely love the special lamb meatball with mushroom sauce. The chicken with parmesan cream sauce was a let down. For $3 a pop, your money is better spent diving into a bigger sandwich. Get a hero. Mashed Potatoes Buttery, creamy mashed potatoes with bits of skin. Rich and perfect, just don’t fill up on it. Ice Cream Sandwiches Order one of these or risk wasting the best years of your life knowing only the Chipwhich." - Chris Stang

The Star of Olive Garden’s ‘Giant Italian Classics’ Menu: Huge Meatball | Eater

"A New York City shop once debuted a six-pound meatball that functioned more like a spaghetti orb with a gooey cheese center and sticky, over-the-top 'meat adhesive,' presented as a novelty-sized creation that drew media attention and described by fans as a 'deliciously unbelievable' feast for meatball devotees." - Jaya Saxena

The Meatball Shop - Review - Hell's Kitchen - New York - The Infatuation

"You probably know the drill here: pick your balls, sauce, and sides, and enjoy a very casual and reliable meal. The Hell’s Kitchen location has a few seats at the bar and some big communal tables in the middle for groups, and meatball heros and vegetarian balls (that actually taste good). This is an easy choice for a dinner that you don’t want to spend a lot of money on, or when you don’t feel like cooking." - Hannah Albertine

The Meatball Shop Review - Upper East Side - New York - The Infatuation

"If you aren’t familiar with the Meatball Shop, you probably haven’t lived in NYC for very long. It’s a place that got somewhat famous for serving a bunch of different meatballs in various ways, and there are several NYC locations, including this one on the UES. Like the nearby Calexico, the Meatball Shop is another place on the Upper East Side where you can go when you’re feeling lazy and don’t want to cook, or when you need to go out for dinner but aren’t trying to spend a fortune. It’s also worth knowing their vegetarian meatballs are actually pretty good." - Bryan Kim

Google
I was totally disappointed in this restaurant. I ordered three meatballs that comes with tomato sauce for $15. They were not served hot. I don't expect a restaurant to make the meatballs right after I order them. I realize that they are premade at the restaurant earlier that day. I do expect them to heat them when I order them. This restaurant did not, the kitchen sent them out to me at room temperature with heated tomato sauce on top of them. After one bite I could tell that was the case and sent them back. They sent them out to me again after they had heated both.

Google
They didn’t have the classic spaghetti meatballs that we were so excited about :/ pesto was great!

Google
Great spot in HK for a delicious, casual meal. They have a small menu that focuses on what they are good at- meatballs! They are proud of sourcing quality meats and it shows. Try the chicken with pesto!!

We got seated right away. We were a party of six and they had no problems feeding us. The server was very kind and very nice. He continually checked on us and asked us if he needed anything. It took about 5 minutes before he took drinks and food. The OG was very good and it came with a Caesar salad that was delicious. I would not recommend the rigatoni with pesto unless you're getting it. As aside. It is very filling. Also, the tables were very sticky. Overall, I would recommend this if you need a quick place to eat.

Google
If you’re looking for a place that serves great meatballs with fast service, this spot is worth a visit. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, and the pricing felt reasonable given the location. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a satisfying meal without breaking the bank. Perfect for a quick bite or a casual outing. Would definitely recommend!

I’ve been here around 2017 and I had a great memory of the experience. I’ve been partly deceived. I remembered I customised experience, very close to the customer. Today it’s a normal restaurant. The waiter do not even mentioned the fact that you can choose the meat in the meatballs (I had to ask). Anyway, they have special service for the children and the pork meatballs are always super! Probably they lost that personal touch they have some years ago. It still with the food.

Google
The Chelsea location was where I initially discovered this place and really enjoyed their food. However when I tried the Hell’s Kitchen location I was disappointed to see the hostess have zero etiquette when she sat us by suggesting we leave in UNDER AN HOUR since other reservations would be filing in shortly after. (I hadn’t even sat down yet.) Against my better judgment I still dined here and do regret it - I think this place could use better mannerisms and their food is not what it used to be. I’ve had better. Never going here or speaking highly of this place again. 👎

Google
We love the meatball shop. Always enjoyed a good vegetarian meal at their Brooklyn establishment which had closed down so we were very happy after our Broadway show to be able to enjoy our meal at this location. Choice of sides and appetizers are plentiful for vegetarians. Roasted cauliflower and potato salad. Vegetarian meatballs are delicious. Cold beers are refreshing and the Ben & Jerry ice cream with choice of cookie sandwich was a delicious finish to our meal!

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times. First, the staff is always rad. Super nice, accommodating. Immaculate vibes and I've never had a wait despite great service and food. This time I ordered one of their signature dishes, the rigatoni spicy pork. Which was great, don't get me wrong, but I have no idea what I thought it was going to be, but it wasn't as expected. It's made with spicy pork balls, broccoli parm cream, and their swift kick sauce. I'm a red sauce girl, but I don't regret trying this at all. It was super pleasantly spicy. I did enjoy the flavors. I'm just a red sauce girl. But if you're a white sauce person, go for it, it's great. I've said this before, but you can make your own bowls (choose meat/veggie, sauce, pasta). I almost can't pass up rigatoni with spicy meat sauce or rigatoni, spicy pork meatballs, and spicy-ish arrabbiata sauce. Would love the veggie ragu too. I had the bruschetta as an appetizer, which isn't your typical--made with seasoned ricotta and marinated tomatoes. Creamy ricotta, juicy tomatoes. Wish it had a little more bite and the bread was a little toastier, but it's very good just the same. They have a ton of veggie side possibilities--I had the mushrooms and they were a little salty. They have kale, cauliflower (roasted, fried, then caesar-seasoned, so maybe I should have gone with that). Potato salad, mashed potatoes, carrots. They have heroes and a few other entrees. My favorite cocktails are the Mr. Tangerine man (gin tangerine puree, arugula, simple syrup, club soda), pining for you (milagro silver, pineapple, agave, tajin), and the strawberry margarita (milagro silver, strawberries, triple sec, agave). All refreshing, light, delicious, not too sweet or heavy. They have several other cocktails, wines, beers, and classics. I'll keep coming back here any time I have to schlep up to midtown for a Broadway play or some other reason.

Yelp
Did awesome with our group of 11. Fast service. Kids meals were on point! $13 and tons of food. Server was so helpful and kind.

Yelp
The place is nicely decorated. The staff was super helpful with our big party. The food is just okay, nothing special.

Yelp
Excellent service, chill background music, relaxed vibe, and very good comfort food at reasonable prices. Definitely good for date night in Hell's Kitchen. We all enjoyed our selections -- chicken meatballs, classic beef/pork meatballs, spicy heritage pork meatballs, and special pizza meatballs filled with pepperoni and cheese. Ice cream sandwich was good. Half baked ice cream is vanilla and chocolate with brownie chunks. Note: no decaf coffee, but decaf herb tea is available. Definitely would return when seeing a show

Yelp
High expected value for when you feel like meatballs, obv lots of competition for great food in the area but this place is good enough to be on our hit parade. Happy hour menu is awesome (though they conveniently forgot to give 'em to my wife and I maybe because we looked like tourists with luggage in tow (we are; we used to be locals though). Kitchen Sink is great if you want veggies, and the meatballs and pasta is pure comfort food. Good, chill local spot with efficient service - wish we had something like this on the West Coast! ;)

Yelp
1000% on my list of favorite restaurants. I've been here on two occasions now for a nice lunch and have had great experiences. The service is amazing and everyone is so nice and friendly. Food comes out quick. It has a casual but nice atmosphere so it's great for a casual lunch/dinner or a date night. The food is great! First time I tried the chicken parm sandwich and it was delicious and filling. Second time I had the spicy pork rigatoni and it was soooo yummy and spicy. The portion sizes are perfect and filling and you might even have leftovers to take home. They have a great drink selection too!

Yelp
Easily the best bruschetta I've ever had! Wish I could just eat piles and piles of it honestly. Service was very nice and lively. Small place with limited seating-- we were there at 3 PM so it wasn't crowded. Meatballs were delicious but honestly I can't say enough about this bruschetta. A must have!!! Thanksgiving meatball platter was unique (Mac & cheese ball!). Brussel sprouts were also quite yummy. Definitely would go here again.

Yelp
I will start off by saying that if you're in the Hell's Kitchen area - this place is epic! I ordered the pepperoni stuffed meatballs and they were a 10/10. My partner ordered the regular meatballs with the alfredo sauce and it was equally as good. It's a quaint place with some cool decor. Our server was also very nice and attentive to make sure our drinks were flowing and everything was satisfactory. She recommended the cauliflower and I was STUNNED at how good it was!

Yelp
AMAZING SPOT... so filling, good price, and good f***ng Meatballs!!!! The owner was super helpful and amazing, felt like we were family the way he treated us These are big meatballs so beware if you're thinking of adding a 4th

Yelp
We had a reservation and sat quickly. We saw outside that they offered happy hour m-f until 6pm and we made it at 2:15pm, so we decided to switch to sitting at the bar. Everyone was extremely friendly. Right when we sat down, we were given water and asked if we had any questions. The food came out fast and hot. The flavor was great. They had 2 different kinds of jello shots that were on the menu, and it was delicious. Everything seemed fresh. There was low music playing, and it was such a vibe. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
In the city for the first time and this place made the cut for dinner one night. We were a party of 10 and they happily accommodated us. I had the chicken parm that was massive and delish. There were 2 chicken cutlets on top of spaghetti and it was all very good. Def the place to go for some delicious Italian.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! The Spaghetti in Meatballs was phenomenal!!!! . I will dream of the pesto! Service was very friendly and fun atmosphere! The pasta was the best we've ever had!

Yelp
Pretty decent for the neighborhood. We came for a large birthday party and we were seated promptly with good service. Cocktails were great (strong), food was pretty good although for a place called The Meatball Shop I had higher expectations for the balls themselves. They were fine, but could have been more tender and flavorful. Chill ambiance, mostly a 20s-30s crowd.

Yelp
Good pre theatre spot steps from most shows. Always busy so definitely make a reservation. Meatballs. Pasta. Calamari. All delicious. Red wine by the glass were all tasty. Espresso martini was on point. No complaints. Good location...good food...and good staff. (Thank you Grace).

Yelp
FYI- happy hour at the bar equals very reasonable pricing and good food and beverage options. $5 drink options and $8 food options. Had meatballs and pasta and Italian salad- two of us shared it and it was perfect for lunch.

Yelp
Love this spot! I try to eat here at every visit! The service is great! The food is amazing! I went solo this time around and I was seated immediately. After looking over the menu for 2 to 3 minutes my server approached me and I was able to put my order in and it wasn't even 10 minutes before I got my food and drink. That is great customer service and good timing for kitchen to table service. 10 out of 10 recommend!

Yelp
I was disappointed by the quality of the food here. I ordered a Build Your Own Bowl with 3 meatballs, arrabbiata sauce, and cavatappi noodles. It was unfortunate that you couldn't mix and match the meatballs - you had to get one type of meatball. I chose the Classic meatball (pork), and they were fine...but for a restaurant that has meatball in their name, I would've expected something more than an average meatball. The sauce was nothing spectacular either, and the noodles were very clearly box pasta that I feel like I could have made myself. I was also sorely disappointed by the cookie - it wasn't even warmed up and tasted like one of those cookies that you get in a family pack from Costco. Everything was overpriced for the quality, and there are far better Italian restaurants to go to. I will say the waitress was very sweet and nice, and the interior is cute; I am just disappointed by the quality of the food.

Yelp
Found this place on yelp, set my reservation through open table and it was exactly what I wanted: chill, relaxed, cozy, intimate but good for groups. There was a table with 8 ppl next to us celebrating a birthday. Anywho... Lighting was dim and the energy was bright, so we were kinda hyped but also starving from a long day of sightseeing. It was four of us and we each got our own plate, we were so excited because the photos looked amazing and boy they did not disappoint. Everything was delicious, the pasta, meat, chicken, sauces and cheese. No overcooked or under seasoned pasta here, no sir. Prices were also fair, especially for the portions.

Yelp
My recent visit to The Meatball Shop left me feeling extremely disappointed. Not only was the food below expectations, but the service was severely lacking. I couldn't help but question how there are so many locations of this establishment in the city. From the moment we were seated, the issues started. We weren't offered enough sets of utensils and had to repeatedly flag down the waiter for assistance. To make matters worse, the cups provided were cloudy and filthy. One of them even had a visible lipstick mark on it. When we requested a new cup, the staff simply rinsed the same cup and returned it to us with the same lipstick mark. This was a major red flag in terms of hygiene and cleanliness. I decided to play it safe and ordered the classic Spaghetti and Meatballs. However, as I read the menu to the waiter, I noticed it said "Spaghetti In Meatballs" instead. This left me confused, but I didn't question it at the time. When the food finally arrived, it looked gimmicky, but unfortunately, the taste matched the appearance. The meatballs had a strange and off-putting texture that I couldn't quite identify. They were dry and elastic, making it difficult to finish even a single meatball. It wasn't until my friend pointed out that the weird texture was actually dried and old leftover spaghetti inside the meatballs. I was utterly disgusted and felt nauseous at the thought. Overall, this experience at The Meatball Shop has left me with no desire to return. The combination of disappointing food, poor service, and questionable cleanliness has left a lasting negative impression. I would not recommend this restaurant to others based on my experience.

Yelp
Came at 6pm on a Sat night w/resv. and were seated immediately. Tables are small and felt very cramped. Service was good. Both my husband and I ordered classic meatballs and we were both disappointed. Meatballs did not have alot of flavor and were pretty chewy. I would call it a "Fastfood meatball". Sauces and pasta that came with them were fine but when your name is "The Meatball Shop", I expected more from the supposed star of the show. Sorry.

Yelp
Went here recently for a work lunch. They were extremely accommodating for our large group. We came on the later side (after 1pm) so the restaurant was pretty empty by then. A lot of people, a lot of different dietary restrictions, but the server navigated our questions well. Also let us do separate checks, which I know is a pain in the ass, so that was appreciated. I like that the menu has enough variety to accommodate gluten-free, vegans, vegetarians, people with aversions to certain meats, etc. I ordered from the chuckle-worthy Balls n' Sauce part of the menu. I got the classic meatballs with tomato sauce and added polenta. The portion sizes are huge. The meatballs were cooked soft and tender, but not falling apart. Paired with the tomato sauce, they had a great flavor. The polenta was the real winner though. Cheesy and just the right texture. I could barely eat half, so I took the rest to go. Unfortunately I lost one of the meatballs during the packing process, that sucker just rolled off the table. One of the hazards of serving round food I guess. The rest of the group had mixed reactions to their food. Salads were all around loved, the chicken meatballs were not well-received. Others felt the meatballs were undercooked, so there might have been some inconsistency. But overall the consensus was mostly positive. Great lunch spot option and would definitely go back.

Adrian G.

Yelp
Excellent. Really good food, nice service and a pleasant environment. Can't ask for much more than that. The food is really top notch, I just can't get enough.

Ryan D.

Yelp
What happened? This used to the a staple of every visit to NYC. Visited during peak business hours and the meatballs were overworked and seemed as if they'd been sitting in a warming tray for a few hours. For a place that has "Meatball" in their name, you'd hope their execution of their namesake would be top notch. It used to be, but no more.
google avatar

Rose K.

Yelp
Food and drinks were both absolutely delicious. I wish I got our servers name because she was absolutely wonderful - offered great suggestions too. The vibe is good for a date or to catch up with a couple friends.

Yelp
Solid, tasty fare. Meatballs are their thing but they also have plenty of other options like shareable sides and even large plates like salmon and more. There were 3 of us and we all tried the meatballs (chicken for me, turkey for one friend, veggie for the other) and all of us left happy. We also split three sides (mushrooms, butternut squash, and brussel sprouts). Tbh I wanted the brussels to be crispier, but they were still tasty and super seasonally on point as it's November. My only other criticism, which is more of a personal preference than anything, is I wish the meatballs were doused in a little more of the sauce. I'm sure if I had asked beforehand they'd do it, so no issues there. All of us got the bowls, mine was with farro, and the other two had pasta and mashed potatoes, so everyone's meal was a little different. Got to try the mashed potatoes and they were SO GOOD. Next time I want to try the polenta as a base. Our server, Julio, was super awesome and charismatic. He was very accommodating and when I asked for chili flakes he even brought out a side of their super spicy paste, which I LOVED. I'd consider tacking on the extra star after another visit - great spot!

Yelp
Great HH offerings! We got the meatball sub and the calamari. The meatball came with a salad, dressing was good. The calamari was decent, crispy. All in all wish the food was hotter, when it hit the table it was warm. The happy hour sangria was good, fruity but semi-strong, only $5 (if I remember correctly). The staff was nice and attentive. The food came out pretty quick as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered a custom bowl and a chocolate chip cookie via Ubereats after walking past this restaurant multiple times and hearing solid things about the food. The custom bowl gave you a choice of pasta and meatballs for $22; I got the rigatoni and classic meatballs. (beef & pork) The rigatoni was pretty solid; nothing mind blowing but gets the job done. The meatballs (which were quite large) were pretty tender and wasn't dry at all. The bowl looked kind of small at first, but after eating all of it I was pretty full. The chocolate chip cookie came warm, which was a tasty surprise! Overall, a solid meal that's filling and affordable! I'll definitely order again from here (or dine in sometime).

Yelp
Great food and kid friendly, my daughter loves the meatballs and mash. The fool aid is a must try!

Yelp
The Meatball Shop is an Italian restaurant with the gimmick of specializing in meatballs. Not the worst idea! Unfortunately, the food here just wasn't that good. The cheesy garlic bread app was honestly pretty bland. It was fine, I guess... hard to screw up cheese and bread. But it wasn't really all that flavorful or notable in any way. I got the classic spaghetti and meatballs - it was my first time at the restaurant and I figured this must be strong. Why even have a 'Meatball Shop' if the spaghetti and meatballs aren't good, right? ... The spaghetti and meatball dish wasn't very good. The large meatballs are bizarrely *filled with spaghetti noodles*. Like, the noodles are chopped up and mixed into the meatball. It's very weird and was a little offputting. Was not an improvement on a normal meatball, was a detraction. The spaghetti itself was adequate, but suffered from being drenched in multiple sauces at once (cream, pesto, marinara). No, I can't explain why they'd serve their signature dish that way. The sauces weren't very good either, just 'adequate' at best but not especially flavorful. I'd recommend going to any of the other Italian joints in the neighborhood and skipping this one.
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a while now, and I loved getting to experience the meatballs here! They are fresh, simple and covered with flavorful marinara sauce and cheese, and a generous serving. The staff here are very friendly.

Yelp
Pros: - great pasta - best meatballs i've ever had - amazing ice cream sandwiches - casual atmosphere - great service - got our food quickly Cons: - there's not a meatball shop near us!

Yelp
My friend hosted her birthday there the other night. The manager was super cool, the wait staff was friendly, the space was beautiful and the perfect size. Great food, great energy.

Yelp
Came to the meatball shop on a Monday around 6pm and got seated immediately. Quaint and pleasant atmosphere. Service was good. Food came out quickly but the servers didn't come around too often even though they were standing feet away from the table. Had to ask for water multiple times. Food wise ordered the wild arugula salad, meatball trio + extra meatball, and side spaghetti Wild Arugula Salad (3.5/5) - Basic salad, nothing really stand out, portion is kind of small given the price Meatball Trio + extra Meatball (4.5/5) - Good variety to try all the different meatballs/sauces. Surprisingly the best one was the chicken meatball with parmesan cream sauce. The other two were good but wasn't really rememberable. The extra one ended up getting the pepperoni stuffed one. Definitely the 2nd best of the four, had a nice spice kick to it. Side spaghetti (3/5) - Pretty standard, could use a little more sauce. Probably would skip or try the actual spaghetti and meatballs. Overall good concept and done well. Would recommend and will go back

Yelp
Cool spot, great tunes, mix & match pasta/sauce/meatballs situation - hard to go wrong here! Our waitress was attentive and didn't write down our order, but it was still correct. She gave my husband a recommendation when he asked, and she kindly warned me that my order was spicy, but they could put the spice on the side if I wanted (I didn't, I only look like a wimp.) Pasta was cooked well, so were the veg, meatballs were good! The mac&cheese app was underwhelming, but still good. The food came out pretty quickly, which we hadn't expected, but we weren't rushed. We'll definitely come back if we need a quick bite, but you could definitely hang out and enjoy.

Yelp
I absolutely love Italian food but who doesn't like let's be honest. I came here on my lunch break and sat at the bar dragging my work luggage lol. I ordered the Pesto chicken Meatball Cavatappi pasta with garlic bread. I ordered the cheesy garlic bread and the bartender was beyond sweet and offered to have it taken back and adjusted but I was so hungry I would of bit her finger if she touched my plate lol. The ambiance was great. Busy but not overly busy where you feel overlooked. Back to pasta! The Pesto sauce was fresh and earthy, pasta was perfectly al dente and the chicken Meatballs which brought the dish all together was steaming hot with a nice texture when you bite into it, juicy, flavorful and very filling. This spot was such a great vibe, perfect spot to come and have a filling meal.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Tried the Meatball trio, Buffalo bites, chicken parm parm, and the daily special-pizza balls. Everything was delicious! Server was very attentive and offered great menu recommendations.

Yelp
This place is awesome-sauce. I love that they have vegetarian meatballs and options for both vegetarians and vegan. They're more dietary restriction friendly than one would think and the veggie balls were *chef's kiss* The biggest con of this place is the space: it's packed! My friend and I were at a two seater and we were so close to the other table we could almost bump them. Very cosy (and probably not for those who are more Covid anxious). That said, the staff is great and that paired greatly with the close atmosphere It felt like eating at a friend's house To start, we had the grilled cheese balls with tomato soup. I LOVED these; I wish we had more grilled cheese balls, but I probably would have filled up on them The soup was perfectly balanced and hearty. 10/10. For entrees, we got the make your own bowls with rigatoni as a base. I had pesto and my friend had the standard tomato sauce. We ordered a hot shot (Calabrian chili) and mixing that into your sauce was the perfect umph. I would definitely come back and get this. Or I might try the kitchen sink just to get some of the seasonal sides. Definitely bring your appetite because you will leave full (and maybe with leftovers)

Yelp
We were walking around Hell's Kitchen and their menu looked good, so decided to have dinner. We went Friday night around 7:30pm and the place was busy but we were seated immediately. My cousin and I decided to order cocktails and share some dishes. We ordered 4 Meatballs. A couple of the classic style and then the special of the day (which I can't remember what it was) with the spicy meat sauce and they were all delicious. The meatball and the sauce both had such amazing flavor. We weren't too hungry so we didn't get a base (pasta, mashed potatoes, polenta). We got the calamari, lightly breaded and great. We also got the hummus and zucchini with tomatoes and onion. It was all yummy. We liked the variety of items we got. Our server was friendly and very attentive. She have us great recommendations on what to order. The place has a fun upbeat vibe with a varied menu and good cocktail/beer/wine selections.

Yelp
Used to live in the LES and frequented the original one all the time. As a vegetarian it's hard to find good veggie meatballs - these are a nice mix of lentils and grains so it's not overly carby or soy. I usually do a sandwich w mozzarella and Marinara. The boy loves the pastas. The salads are nice too tho I miss the arugula one w green apple slices. If we have room (which is rare!), we'll spring for the ice cream sandwiches. It's unique and delicious even after all these years. My visiting friends and fam love it too.

Yelp
Dining at the meatball shop has been a dream of mine for a few years. Due to a beef allergy, I was delighted to discover that they have a chicken or veggie meatball option. First the good news- the gluten free pasta was very good, and the standard tomato sauce offering was simple but tasty. The Brussels sprouts and apple appetizer was decent, but would have been better if it was served hot instead of room temp. The not so great - I would not advise that you order the chicken meatballs. We couldn't eat them as they were gristly, fatty and not cooked all the way through. We will most likely not return.

Yelp
The service here was so much fun and really friendly! I had a lunch meeting with my coworkers and they took me to The Meatball Shop. This is a restaurant that specializes in special meatballs. You can order different types (traditional, chicken, spicy pork, vegan, etc) and pair them with a pasta of your choice or grain. I ordered a spicy pork bowl with creamy white sauce and polenta. It was really filling and flavorful. Great spot to try in Hell's Kitchen!

Yelp
I loved my lasagna - it was rich and creamy with crushed meatballs, which I love. The spaghetti and meatballs were ok - I thought kind of plain but my husband thought they were good - cooked well all the way through (not overcooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside given how big they were). The chicken parmigiana was delicious for the first few bites but eventually the chicken felt like rubber, like biting into a rubber eraser. I'd for sure go back for the lasagna.

Yelp
We visited NYC just to go to the Meatball Shop in Chelsea at least 3 times prior to Covid. We were sad to see that it is no longer there, but happy to find this location. Three of us had reservations but were able to be seated early. We ordered spiked lemonade and started with Mozzarella Balls and tomato sauce which were fantastic. We ordered the Ball trio sampler with pork, beef, and chicken balls, and balls on pasta in a bowl. For the first time ever, we made it to dessert, although we also shared that 3 ways. Ice cream sandwich on a snickerdoodle, WHAT!! The Meatball Shop does not disappoint!!

Yelp
Quality meatballs, decent pasta, and great ice cream sandwiches! I went to The Meatball Shop for dinner and ordered the Rigatoni Spicy Pork. The spicy pork meatballs were high quality and not actually that spicy. However, the pasta was quite spicy, with the chili flakes they added. Aside from the spice and some Parmesan sauce, there wasn't too much other flavor to the pasta though. $21 was acceptable for this portion size. The best part of the meal was the ice cream sandwich. I got vanilla bean ice cream sandwiched between chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies. The cookies were pretty standard, but the ice cream was a perfect consistency- nice and creamy and somehow almost a chewy kind of consistency (in a very good way). For $7, this was a great way to end the meal (especially after the spicy pasta). The restaurant has some nice decor with interesting framed photographs and a bar area. They also play some classic early 2010s pop music, which brought me back to my childhood. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful. The service speed was pretty fast. Overall, The Meatball Shop is a great option for meatballs, pasta, and ice cream sandwiches. These three items are undoubtedly the key items on the menu, so if any of them appeal to you, you should stop by!

Yelp
Happy Hour!! I needed food before seeing Music Man and my friend (local) suggested this place. It didn't disappoint. I ordered calamari and spaghetti w/meatballs. Both were delicious and happy hour prices made it extra worth it.
