"Born in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Nasser Jaber has created one of the city’s wildest menus at his newly opened Upper East Side restaurant and Dumbo food-court counter. It merges Middle Eastern and Latin cuisines, with a whole range of snackable items, including tortas, empanadas, hummus, and a shawarma sandwich wrapped in a laffa with garlic sauce. The choice of meat — such as smoky, shredded pork carnitas — highlights Jaber’s global approach to the menu." - Robert Sietsema

"The Migrant Kitchen is serving dishes with Latin American and Middle Eastern influences out of a pop-up in Williamsburg. Not only can you order things like smoked street corn with sumac and labneh, or a roasted lamb torta with mujadara and Oaxaca queso, but for every $12 you spend, The Migrant Kitchen will donate a healthy meal to a New Yorker in need. Head to the pop-up between 12-10pm Tuesday through Sunday, or place an order for delivery." - Matt Tervooren

The grilled carrot and hummus were delicious and filling. The crackers are crack. The service was really slow on a Saturday as you'd expect, even though the kitchen staff was putting a 100%. Commendable effort! The indoor seating area at Timeout Market is meh.

Google
Got the herb salmon, which came with salad and potato wedges. Everything was beautiful, but the the salad and salmon were a bit lacking in flavor, although they were still good. The potato wedges were amazing, though!! Overall, a good experience and the salmon is a great value compared to most of the other vendors at the market.

Google
I didn’t realize they didn’t have a storefront. I saw the pictures on google map and spent 15 min walking around trying to find the place till I finally started asking the neighboring restaurants. They kindly told me that the restaurant is actually operated in the lower level of The Dubliner (I think this is the right place). I went downstairs and knocked on a door that had a printed sign saying ‘the Migrant Kitchen’ and finally I had found the place! I’m glad I kept trying cause the food is delicious. I tried a variety of vegetarian options - jackfruit tinga empanadas, cauliflower shawarma, falafel and the original hummus - and I was won over by the non- traditional vegetarian flavors all perfectly textured and spiced. Each falafel is the size of a billiard ball so make sure you order some hummus to eat with it.

Google
Good food with lots of veggies. If you’re missing some vitamins while visiting usa, definitely go there. Salads with tasty dressings, although there could be more veggies than main green lettuce.

Google
What an amazing experience... I loved the idea that the Migrant Kitchen stands for: you buy a meal and you give one. The aesthetic of the place is just beautifully done. The menu is a great marriage Middle East and Latino. I ordered the Empanadas brisket - Shakshuka Chicana (roasted tomatoes, bell pepper); Habibi Street Corn, and the Carnitas Shawarma (a not so halal sandwich: red cabbage, tomato, mint, tahini verde, pickled onions). Fabulous. I can’t recommend it enough. Final note goes to the host Raphael, who was just extremely hospitable and very knowledgeable about the menu and the food. Thank you the everyone who contributed to this amazing middle eastern Latino journey.

Google
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! First of all the owner Nasser was Uber friendly and explained the concept and the different dishes. The food is delicious, I had the humus and fried chicken (highly recommend). Each dollar you spend is going to an amazing cause. Definitely will go back

Google
Arab and Latin delicious mix! You can appreciate both cultures in the plating and flavor. Healthy choice and generous portion! Highly recommend

Google
Where to start?! The food is incredible, the staff is the most genuine and lovely people I’ve met in Brooklyn in a while AND they give meals to those in need. A must stop!

Yelp
Nah... don't pick this place when you have so many other good options in Time out market. I vote for staying hungry as the better alternative. Over priced food with no flavor as such. Bland chicken, undercooked rice and stale pita. Only hummus was good but I have no intentions of paying $25 dollars again (plus tip) for one dish and experience such mediocrity.

Alexa R.

Yelp
I ordered the za'atar salmon and enjoyed my meal! The sumac roasted potato wedges were the star of the show! My portion of salmon was on the smaller side and it wasn't the highest quality, but the za'atar spices helped make it quite flavorful. I also liked the unique side salad. My sister was happy with her cauliflower shawarma wrap as well. Overall, I was satisfied with my choice within Time Out Market.

Amy K.

Yelp
I'm not sure if my rating should be 4 but got bumped down due to the atmosphere of the Time Out Market food hall in general. My cauliflower shawarma wrap was pretty good, actually, if rather expensive for a wrap ($14) and a small 8 or 10 ounce cup of hibiscus iced tea was $3.50. I was pleased that it wasn't overly sweet. I've been meaning to try the Migrant Kitchen on the UES but haven't gotten there yet; have heard good things from acquaintances who've been. I like the ethos, which donates food to people in need when you buy something, so I'm glad I chose this place for my lunch in Brooklyn today. Won't eat in this loud, crowded food court again, though, at least not on a weekend!

Lyndsie L.

Yelp
Had Lamb sandwich, hummus, and cucumber mint lemonade! Split with my partner and it was tasty. Ate on the roof and enjoyed the view and yummy lunch. Easy to split. Good flavor.

Prianka S.

Yelp
Got the lamb Torta and it was delicious! Loved the seasoning on the meat. Overall, great fusion spot.

Amit M.

Yelp
I've been here once in the Time Out Market location. Lamb torta was really good, definitely recommend

Mahsa N.

Yelp
Came to to the location at the Time Out Market and really had a good experience. I got the chicken torta which was filling, fresh and flavorful. The chicken was well cooked while being tender and the food was quite tasty.

Joanne L.

Yelp
So glad they're having a stall at Time Out Market now. I've tried many of their dishes - freekeh salad, empanadas, hummus, and cauliflower shawarma - all very good. They also keep updating the menu so I'm able to find something new and different every time I visit. The cauliflower shawarma may be my fav - slow-roasted till very soft, super flavorful, and goes very well with the picked vegetables.

Honghui Y.

Yelp
I have not had an opportunity to visit them in person (given COVID and all) but ordered delivery from them and not only was I super happy with the quality of the food, I was also impressed by their customer service. First, the food. I had the pastelon mahshi, which is a stuffed sweet plantain with ground beef, cheese and yogurt. If you like plantains and you're into sweet and savory combos, definitely get this because it is delicious. I've never had anything like it before and I have no idea if this is a common dish in Latin American cuisine but it feels like you're eating comfort food that is inventive at the same time. I also got the hummus trio, but wish I had just stuck to the classic hummus, which was by far the best. Because it's topped with a generous dose of chimichurri, it tastes super garlicky and herby which makes me just want to add chimichurri to every hummus I eat from now on. As for the service, I had a little mishap with the online ordering system and mistakenly placed an order for pick up rather than delivery. Once I had discovered the error, I immediately called them and for complicated reasons that I'm not going to get into, I had to place a separate order through Doordash and have them cancel my existing order even though they had already started making it. Logistically, it was a bit convoluted but the person I spoke with on the phone was very nice and cancelled my existing order like he promised he would (you'd be surprised at how many issues I've had with restaurants who don't do what they say they'll do on the phone). Also, this is a new restaurant in my neighborhood and I hope it's able to get the support it needs and deserves. Even pre-COVID, it was difficult to operate a small business (especially a restaurant) in New York so I can only imagine how much harder it is in the current environment. If you're reading this review, please support this business!!!

Andrew C.

Yelp
The Slow Roasted Pork Shawarma is killer! I saw there wasn't a line and was a little hesitant to order anything. I'm so glad I chose to have what I had. That was one of the best things I've eaten in a while!

Brittney H.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and thought I'd give this place a try. Ordered potato wedges - they were well-seasoned and the accompanying dip was pleasantly light and tangy. However, the cashier added a 22% tip for himself on my order without my consent. I didn't notice until I got my receipt. Although it was not a large dollar amount, it's the principle. Really disappointed in the way business is conducted - if you go, please be sure to specify that you'd like to be the one to select the tip amount (as is customary at most establishments ??)

Bera D.

Yelp
idk where the fusion aspect is i couldn't really tell. service was at best average probably. the place is nice at least and we'll air conditioned.

I'm H.

Yelp
The salad was good and the dressing was great. The hummus was too little. The food food was overpriced for sure. I would not go back there.

Yelp
Can't commend the people at The Migrant Kitchen enough for what they've done for the essential workers of NYC hospitals and the NY citizens; over a million meals prepared all over NY and the world! Chef Nasir is one of the outgoing and passionate members of this amazing group; hats off to their hard work! Also Chef Alex and his team for creating and preparing meals and Rafael for nearly spoiling me with one of everything off the menu! The empanadas crust is bellisimo and that crispy chicken is a mild and beautifully subtle resemblance to Dave's Hot Chicken in Los Angeles (delicate flavors and beautiful crunch to that breading ...*I heard it's gluten free) . Not only that but I managed to have food taken home for other family members to try and everything was tasty and delish! Do not pass on this place , during these challenging times for small businesses , these people here are giving service with a smile and your meal will allow TMK to donate a deliciously healthy meal to a New Yorker in need. This is the place to go and spend thoughtfully ! *Oh and don't forget to try their soft serve , it's a refreshing palate cleanser with some awesome complimentary flavors ...Mexican chocolate and orange blossom swirl !

Yelp
Really not understanding how this place has such a high rating. The food was disgusting! 1st of all why do they give you the option to tip if there's no actual table service? These businesses need to stop doing that to customers. The chicken I got was so hard to chew, very oily and just didn't have anything appetizing about it. Very nasty. The potato wedges were served cold and you could tell they reheated them. Stale and also nasty. The salad was the only thing that was sort of edible. These food reviews on her must be paid reviews because I don't get it? I have a good palette for good quality food. This just wasn't it.

Yelp
We stopped by the Time Out Market after walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. There were so many options in the market but wanted to venture out a bit so have this middle eastern fusion joint a try. I ordered the Carnitas Shawarma and hummus. The shawarma was good but my bites weren't evenly divided with the other toppings. A few bites were just shawarma and the tortilla, and it was really dry on its own, while other bites had pickles and sauce. So, it was a mixed bag experience, some bites were amazing and a few others were not that great. The hummus was great and loved having za'atar included. Oh, and good luck finding a table to enjoy your meal as the competition is fierce. It was reminiscent of the land grab of 1889. Make sure you start your search as soon as possible and stake your claim quickly!

Yelp
After last year's rave reviews of this restaurant, I was disappointed with the Time Out Brooklyn Migrant Kitchen location. 3 stars for the food - the menu is a bit "dumbed down" in comparison to its previous location/pop up. Empanadas/small starters, a couple of basic salads, couple of simple mains, and tortas. I was excited to find more innovations on the menu I'd read about blending Middle Eastern & Latin cuisines so the menu was already a tad disappointing (my bad for assuming the menu would be the same). For me the food was fine but I don't feel the need to return. I ordered the lamb torta and pork torta. Turns out, they were out of the pork so the cashier DECIDED to give me chicken instead. 1. He should have told me they were out of pork first and let me decide what I want instead. 2. I was still charged for the pork torta which is more expensive! Zero stars for service. Even before the pork/chicken switch, the cashier was rude and uninviting. When asked for a suggestion between two menu items, he said "get whatever you want." In retrospect, no tip was deserved but I'd paid & tipped before the whole experience. There are so many other great places to enjoy in this spot, take your business elsewhere. I typically only review places I love, so I'm sorry to say this is 1 of 2 negative reviews. Service was so poor I felt compelled and hope it can serve as constructive criticism.

Christine L.

Yelp
The cauliflower shawarma a really good vegan option with great flavors. My only complaint was the it was a little (very) messy. Would definitely recommend eating over a table, probably even a plate. The za'atar potatoes were also delicious. Didn't have a chance to try the hummus but might have to come back and do that

Timothy C.

Yelp
It's a four star for food, but they lose two stars because they told me on the phone they had indoor and outdoor dining: they dont, and they misled us. You can sit at the nearby bar and tavern, the dubliner, if you buy an overpriced drink. we were never told this in advance, the guy on the phone didn't mention any of this. None of the overpriced drink options were appealing. We felt deceived and instead sat on a park bench on a cold evening . A bad dining experience overall. To be fair, the food was all right. takeout could be good. But the dining experience was bad since the person in the phone misled us about their dine in options. It really put a damper on our New York vacation.

Yelp
Phenomenally flavorful and unique meal. This place operates inside the Dubliner, which can be accessed both on South William and Stone Streets. We ordered online during the weekend, and service was super fast - our food was ready in about 10-15 minutes. The chicken and fawaffle (which seemed like a spicy chickpea flour mix griddled into a waffle shape to maximize the crispy surface area action) was amazing, and I loved the generous amounts of tart sumac and spicy Aleppo on the crispy, hot chicken, with refreshing pickles on the side. Pastelon Mahshi makes me wonder why we do not use sweet plantains more often in western cuisine, at least as a substitute for bread. It's sweeter, denser, and honestly feels more nutritious than a fluffy bun. The ground meat mixture was very flavorful and the yogurt sauce provided a tasty contrast.

Tay J.

Yelp
First time here and it was worth it. The food and service were equally amazing. Love the diversity and the message from the migrant kitchen. Love that if you buy a meal they provide a meal. Had a small appetizer and it was full of flavor and fresh.

Yori T.

Yelp
My order (pastelon mahshi & brisket empanadas) was fantastic! Both dishes were wonderfully spiced and carefully prepared. This establishment is definitely worth a visit. To boot... spend over $12 & TMK donates a meal to the underserved in NYC. How awesome is that??? Please visit & enjoy!!!

Kristina L.

Yelp
This food is amazing: a fusion or Arab and Latina that's a perfect combination of savory flavors. The location is beautiful and everything feels sanitary, safe and COVID-secure. PLUS for every meal you buy a meal is donated which is enough reason to come anyway. The fact the food is so good is just a bonus.

Clari B.

Yelp
Came and dined "in" during COVID time and ordered just about everything on the menu: torta, empanadas, soft serve, cucumber juice (would go amazingly with some mezcal or gin), pastelon, chicken, salad, all the sauces, corn (shredded), hummus. I didn't care much for the chicken but that's only because everything else was a show stopper (without the others foods it would stand out as well); also didn't care for the pastel on but I'm picky with those I did like the filling for sure just not the maduro. The hummus is everything and the dressing for the salad just drizzle it in my mouth. Overall worth a trek and bring that juice back home for sure.

Bogey W.

Yelp
I had a meal at the Brooklyn time out location. The pork schwarma was much smaller than I expected for 18.50- it felt like two king strips of pork rolled in a store bought tortilla, not a pita, altogether less than 2" in diameter. For this amount of food, it feels like it should cost about half the price. Flavor was also slightly lighter than I expected for a schwarma, although the pork was quite juicy, not dry.

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
Delicious food! We had the lamb torta (very filling!), chicken empanada, chimichurri hummus with pita chips and refreshing cucumber mint lemonade. Absolutely worth the visit.

Rachel L.

Yelp
Stumbled on this place while making a business run to the area. Loved everything about this place. Was with a friend. All we ordered was so tasty and delicious. The flavor combinations were unfamiliar and seemed to explode in my mouth. Literally an experience like none I ever had. I was like what is this? I LIKE IT! I also love that they give back to the community by giving a meal with every meal purchased. It makes it very much worth the cost.

Kaye H.

Yelp
ordered the chicken but was charged for the pork which was $2 extra, then paid $6 for a side that i wasn't aware was extra cost. such a scam. my $15 meal ended up being just under $30 with tip. totally not worth it and couldn't enjoy my meal because of how much i was overcharged

L. Gaye H.

Yelp
Good meal. Slow service. Refused to give me a cup of water when all their beverages are sugar sweetened, even after I explained I am diabetic and cannot have sugar. Sent me to the bar far away to buy water when there's a water fountain available.

Jacob W.

Yelp
I came across this spot on the way home, and knew I found a winner with their Middle-Eastern Latin fusion menu! I had the vegan cauliflower shwarma, and it was incredible. All the food was delicious! The staff was extremely kind and their sustainable plates and bowls are thoughtful. The best part is their commitment to feeding underserved families with their buy a meal, give a meal program. So impressed and WILL be returning!

B K.

Yelp
1. Nowhere on their website do they mention they have no storefront and they're hidden inside another business. Good luck finding them! Minus one star. 2. Nowhere on their website do they mention there's no in-person ordering, that you can only order online. Minus one star. 3. The bar next door to the business they're currently inside still has a sign for them outside their door, leading you to go into the wrong business first. Minus one star. 4. The fried chicken is good! Plus one star! 5. The falafel waffles are terrible. They're so dry, they're almost impossible to eat. Did anyone taste these before putting them on the menu? Minus one star. 6. The plastic utensils they're using are next to useless for cutting the chicken. Won't deduct stars for that but they should know and get a better brand. 7. Really, those waffles are like a mouthful of sand. Pthhffl. There's a lot of potential here. Just, like, be clear on the website about the location and ordering procedure so people know before going. And take down the sign at the place next door. That's just unnecessarily confusing.

Olivia R.

Yelp
Carnitas shawarma was amazing. I savored every bite. Excited to make the most of this pop-up while it's here!

Marcos L.

Yelp
Amazing latAm flavors... The mac & cheese version is delicious and also the goat sandwich!! Also huge one :)

Yasmin H.

Yelp
Very cute spot, the service is friendly, and the food is delicious. The dishes fuse Latin and Middle Eastern dishes in a unique way. Once you try the pastelon mahshi and crispy chicken musakhan, they become dishes you crave. They have outdoor seating next to a flower stand that perfumes the air. Cute shops around the block if you want to spend some time in the 'hood. And a great mission as they are proud of being run and led by a team of immigrants and refugees. A special spot in the city!

Monique V.

Yelp
My first time eating fried chicken in a while and it was SOOOO WORTH IT! Well seasoned, super duper juicy and CRISPY y'all! Their restaurant week deal was incredibly priced and I cant wait to try other things on the menu. Delivery was also super efficient

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Great food, great cause and really lovely people. Tried the cauliflower shawarma and it was delicious. Everything felt very COVID savvy and safe. I'll be back.

Gypsy G.

Yelp
We ran into this on accident and it was better than expected. Staff and food was great. Ambience is chill and it's in a cute neighborhood

Rodrigo R.

Yelp
The kebab with carnitas was amazing! It's a nice combo of Mexican and Middle Eastern. Great cause too. I got delivery and came very fast

Pritish I.

Yelp
Amazing food, beautiful space. Great mix of healthy and indulgent. Fried chicken, stuffed plantain, and corn dishes were all phenomenal. Highly recommend!

Jessie E.

Yelp
Saw this place while driving down metropolitan today and decided to stop off and give it a try!! First of all, their mission is amazing - donating meals to those in need. Their website said around 60k per week! The owner Nas helped us, gave us a rundown of the menu, and even gave us some complimentary hibiscus drinks and appetizers. We tried the crispy chicken, the beef stuff plantain (forgot the name of it) and the orange flower vanilla soft serve with halva and baklava topping. The quality of the food was incredible and the prices are great. Staff is super friendly and the decor is really nice. Was honestly blown away. I will definitely be coming back!! I bet their takeout is great as well. Their business model is so incredible and should be the future of food!! The also used what looked like biodegradable plates which is awesome.

Robert L.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Be warned, you will be back. Again and again. You can tell they use quality ingredients. The customer service was great and helpful. It is a unique and wonderful experience.

Cc V.

Yelp
My mom is a brooklyn-born Lebanese and she was practically tearing up at how delicious everything we got was -- amazing flavors but in combinations we've never tried. We had the vegetarian choice and a chicken dish and it was just excellent. Not to mention the mennoushe is thin and wonderful.

K G.

Yelp
Got take out for restaurant week. The bucket of chicken is amazing. I don't know what spices were used, but has got to be one of my favorites! I also loved how they basically deboned all the chicken with the exception of one bone in each piece. Made it super easy for my kids to eat and they even asked for more the next day. The biscuits were also very different from any other biscuit I've had before. It tasted even better after I heated it up in the oven to soften it up a bit. Really very good. Can't wait to taste the rest of the menu!

Clarice H.

Yelp
We made our way down to FIDI to take advantage of the Restaurant Week Bucket of Chicken deal which is more than enough for two people, but we couldn't stop there. The other menu items were calling out to us so we also ordered Lamb Empanadas, Smoked Chicano Street Corn, Hummus, and the Pastelon Mahshi. Everything was excellent! Of course, we couldn't possibly finish it all so we're looking forward to enjoying it again tomorrow.

Jane D.

Yelp
Move over Jacobs Pickles, this is the best fried chicken in nyc. Excellent customer service. Head over to support this awesome local business that employed 15 kitchen workers that were previously left jobless during the pandemic. Absolutely love. Will come again.

Himani R.

Yelp
Ordered from here during restaurant week 2021- I received enough fried chicken to feed a family of 4! The chicken was fresh even after being delivered and not soggy at all-and was SO FLAVORFUL! One of the best fried chicken I've ever had!

Annie Z.

Yelp
Ordered takeout one time but already in love. Fusion can fall flat at times, but this was an awesome pairing. We got the popular crispy chicken musakhan, and a lamb torta. Some of the best fried chicken I've had in recent memory.

Ali L.

Yelp
Simply delish. Hummus everywhere else is normally crap, but this spot delivers. Get the plantain stuffed with spiced beef for sure, it's fab in all the right ways. Crispy chicken thing is messy and glorious. Will be back again, weekly!!
