Late Dec2024 Passed by on an afternoon while walking along the commercial area of the toen of St Helena. Unfortunately, a lot of the products have already sold out, which is a good sign usually of the popularity of specific goods. The service is primary behind the counter. The interiors are very simple and more appropriate for takeaways only.

3 for service. On Google maps it shows they close at 4:30pm but the staff closed the doors at 4 and informed us we had to leave. When I mentioned that they should then correct the time info on google because it is confusing. The girl who worked as a cashier and seemed to be the manager too was very straight forward and not polite. In general the bakery was fine. They got good coffee and pastries.

Best lavender latte I've experienced. The place can get packed and run out of their best items, but it's a decent spot for a quick bite between wineries and window shopping. Don't expect easy seating, but the customers sit and eat quickly. The biggest wait may be for your food, they can get behind.

The place is very quaint and cozy but if it's busy it felt crowded. The ordering kiosk is great but the location of it really clogs up the entryway. Food was great but the ticketing system felt a bit overkill. I had 3 different ordering tickets, 1 for food 1 for pastries and 1 for drinks. my fiance and I got our drinks no problem but our food came out before the pastries which seemed odd. Apparently it was due to a miscommunication of them not realizing we had already gotten and eaten our sandwich (Which as delicous!) ((they were supposed to give both at once)) they never called our number for the pastries until I had to walk up and ask what happened. To be clear I have no ill will against any the employees(things just happen), I think it's just an odd system that makes things more complicated and potentially creates more issues.

It's a high quality place as far as I can tell. I was working in the area and I needed coffee and it was open at 6 AM. Other coffee places in the area open at 8? Coffee was excellent. $4.50 for a large, I got two... just for me... they messed up and gave me three... Gave me the extra one instead of pouring it out. The two people working the front area were very nice! Service was great. There is no public restroom FYI! Street parking. Place is clean and quiet, filled with retired local guys chatting and razzing with other. It is a 5 star place, I only gave it 4, but it's 4plus. Since it has no public bathroom and a breakfast sandwich is $13. I gave it four. Prices are high but this is a tourist town in California. Say no more. $23 for two coffees and a breakfast sandwich. But it's a lovely sandwich! Keep up the great work? FYI bakers get up around 2AM usually. I used to work at Lotus bakery in Santa Rosa California. Lots of respect and thanks! PJ Malone

We visited The Model Bakery around 8am on a Monday. It was not crowded and we were able to order quickly and got a small table. The service was so-so. The employees seemed indifferent to customers, just taking orders with not much friendliness. You put in your order at the front counter and then take your food from there, while you pick up coffee at a different side counter. I was very excited to try my Avocado Toast which was beautifully presented and while it tasted good, it was extremely hard to eat! The edges of the bread are too hard to cut through with the plastic knives/forks so I tried picking it up to eat it, but all of the toppings just fell off! I ended up tearing the bread apart with my hands and using the utensils to eat the toppings. My coffee was good and I liked the cute design on top! This is a popular bakery, but while I might stop by if in the area again, I wouldn't necessarily seek it out on purpose.

i purchased chocolate rad cookies today. I have been buying them for many years. i even have their cook book and bake them at home .. The cookie was hard and stale! it didn't even look the same. it looked like it as made in a machine.. not shaped like a homemade cookie and not as dark and rick..there were only a few tiny tiny pieces of nuts! what's happening?? since they have expanded their items aren't the same.. so so sad The picture they have posted of these cookies is false advertising now because they don't look like that anymore

We went there right before they closed and nothing much left. Did managed to get a lemon bar to go. We ate it the next day and it was absolutely delicious. The lemon flavor was so rich and the stuffing was really dense. Will definitely visit again to try other things.

This is my first time stopping at Model Bakery on Main Street in Saint Helena. I had a red velvet cake, cupcake that was tasty. The frosting was good, but it wasn't the best one I've ever had. It was a little bit on the small side for the $4.50 price tag. I also ordered a peach green iced tea that was surprisingly good. The sweetness of the tea and peach flavoring was nicely balanced. There is a lot of hype around this bakery and their English muffins. Unfortunately I didn't get to try one, they were sold out. A variety of sandwiches and they were promoting Smashburger. There is very little seating and no public restroom.

Model bakery is one of my favorites. I've been to the Napa location several times and this was my first visit to the St Helena location. The sandwich menu is bigger here, but the viennoiserie / pastry selection is much smaller. I also think the coffee is much less smooth here. My veggie breakfast sandwich was delicious as usual, as was the cookie and loaf of bread we picked up, but overall I prefer the Napa location for the coffee and pastries.

Perhaps it was the afternoon visit three hours before closing, but it was very underwhelming. We got two sandwiches, one on ciabatta and the other on sourdough. The sandwiches were meh, but the bread was easily the worst part of it. Stale and flavorless. We had Model Bakery breads at other restaurants that use their breads, and it was good then. Perhaps they outsource the freshest and we just got the leftovers. Or maybe just an off day.

I usually frequent the Napa Model Bakery location when visiting the area. But with a short stay nearby, decided to come by St. Helena location after lunch today around 12:30 pm. After scoping out the pastries, was going to get the banana bread and lemon poppy seed bread. But saw one fly near the banana bread and another fly on top of the lemon poppy seed bread and decided not to get any of those pastries. Today was a very hot day and understandable that the bugs were out. But just not very sanitary or appetizing after seeing so many flies flying around. As I moved closer to the baked breads, you can see more flies. Since already in line, got a slice of lemon meringue and small fruit tart which were enclosed. Taste and flavor wise both were good.

We waited inline to pickup coffee and pastries. The place was packed. The inside is well decorated. The person behind the counter helped me was very nice and remember everything we asked for. Unfortunately when we got to the cashier we didn't get our entire order. The sandwich that was being warmed up never made it to the bag yet we paid for it. I asked for butter and jelly and that didn't make it to the bag either. The croissant was average. The famous English muffin is more of a chewy hamburger bun. The spinach feta croissant was excellent. The morning bun was dryer than average. They asked us if we wanted a receipt and unfortunately we said no. Ever think that English Muffins are all the same? Well, they are NOT!! Do you want the best English muffins you have ever tasted?? Come to The Model Bakery!! When we're passing by the Saint Helena area, we make sure to stop by and grab a 6 pack of their famous English Muffins. They make for an awesome breakfast back at home. They are a bit messy, but in my opinion, messy is good haha. The service here is always great. The ladies working are always happy to answer any questions. The time we went here, my daughter wanted to try out their Croissantwich with Willie Bird Turkey Bacon. She really enjoyed the sandwich. The Turkey Bacon smelled really good and was not the ordinary turkey bacon you get at a typical grocery store. I sadly didn't get a chance to take a picture of the English muffins because we finished it before I even thought about it haha. But when you're around the Napa area, make a stop here and try all their stuff! But don't leave without a bag of their English Muffins!

We ordered ahead online. Definitely do this b/c this place can get packed! I got us a table outside while my husband went inside to pick-up our food. They have an online-order pick up area but it's not well managed. I'd ordered a cold brew w/simple syrup and half/half. Well, it was black. I went inside w/ it and tried to get the guy's attention to let him know it was missing the half/half and he immediately cut me off...didn't care what I was saying, and w/an attitude goes "we're still brewing coffee, you'll have to wait". Ooou...he had such an attitude. I snapped back and go "no, I already have my coffee...this is missing the half/half **I'm pointing to my cold brew**". Still not understanding me, I pointed to the paper receipt that was taped to our food order that clearly said, 'half-half'. He goes "it's over there" and pointed to a carafe off to the side. I go "where's the simple syrup??". He pointed to my cup and I could see a layer of it at the bottom. What was the point of me checking off the box for my creamer option online if they're not going to add it in. Completely pointless. Our breakfast sandwiches were very good but this kid needs some serious customer service training. The Napa location downtown seems to be kinder to the customers.

Update for 2024: Things have changed here, and we will not be returning. Sadly, I have to agree with fellow reviewers appalled by the level of customer service. The property has been updated since my first review in 2018 - inside looks much newer, and there are now video screens for the menu offerings and "skip the line" digital ordering. That's the extent of the good. The bad? The incredibly rude, hostile, and unwelcoming behavior and demeanor of all but one of the staff means my wife and I will never be returning to this place until changes are reported. There is one counter-person who clearly does not really want to be working here or interacting with customers. I can certainly understand how dealing with tourists can become stale and a drag...but don't take it out on friendly, understanding, and generally kind patrons. And it wasn't just us...EVERY interaction we witnessed by this counter-person (the older, heavier one) was just mean-spirited, dismissive, patronizing, and rude. EVERY one. And it gets worse. The baristas are ALSO passionless, just going through the motions without any energy or joy. Their interactions with actual customers was the rudest I have ever seen - refusing to even grunt a reply to a polite question or request. Just staring my wife in the eye without any response whatsoever. What ever has happened with management, staff, and organizational culture, I sincerely hope the (new?) owners figure it out. Because what has happened is they have most effectively and efficiently found the best way to turn loyal customers into "AVOID THIS VENUE AT ALL COSTS" advocates. You would be better off brewing your own coffee and buying donuts at a convenience store. Compare that with my prior review in 2018 and you can infer the stark changes we experienced.

If you're in the area, you MUST get these English muffins! Even if you're not in the area! They're worth a detour! I don't like English muffins, but the Model Bakery ones are indescribably delicious. They're buttery, puffy, and huge. I didn't really eat English muffins before this, but now I definitely can't ever eat another place's English muffin. The staff are also extremely kind and the seating area is beautiful. The cashier gave us a free small focaccia the other day - we ordered one, paid, and then changed our minds and wanted a second, and she told us it was free of charge. Everyone in here is extremely kind and helpful, and we come back almost every day for those English muffins.

I appreciate the response from the manager regarding my last review. But an apology and promise to do better is not enough to make me want me to try again. I live in town and could easily go back. But, why would I gamble on paying for another bad experience? And to top it off, being asked for a tip before I have received any service? Good or bad? We tipped...and still got terrible service. It used to be a great place for locals to hang out. Not so much any more. I find that sad.

During a recent visit to Napa Valley, made a necessary stop at the phenomenal Model Bakery. The selection is always amazing and delicious. I made a point to get a breakfast sandwich, having the vegetarian breakfast sandwich. The English muffins are the star of the show. So light and tasty and perfect for a breakfast sandwich. The hash brown, avocado, tomato, cheese middle was phenomenal and enhanced by a little hot sauce. Phenomenal service and a fun store. So many great options for food throughout the day. The English muffins are so good I often order them from gold belly. Don't miss this if you're in the area.

Cute and more spacious than the downtown Napa location, I highly recommend this place if you're on the more northern side of wine country. We stopped by on a Saturday around 10am and got lucky as the line got super line behind us. I ordered a bunch of original breakfast sandwiches and a sausage breakfast sandwich all on their famous English muffins. Soooooo good is an understatement!! They make a really good Carmelita bar and banana nut bread too! We always usually default to the 6pack of English muffins but will definitely now try more of their other baked goods as well!

LOVE IT! The Model Bakery is a Napa local staple. Their breakfast food is divine! My order is a the bacon burrito and it never disappoints. It has a good mix of ingredient rations, so that with every bite you get a little bit of everything. The burrito is big, and easily shareable if you're not a big breakfast person. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with any of their breakfast sandos. The model bakery does get really busy on the weekends, so go online and order ahead to avoid the long wait line.

Model bakery is living on the reputation of their English muffins. This Thanksgiving I ordered an apple pie and it was the worst. The apples must've been cooked first and then put in the pie and cooked again . It should've been called an applesauce pie.. Truly disappointing . And a $38 a travesty . I ordered the pie and dinner rolls a week before Thanksgiving, on the Wednesday when I went in to get the pie, the weight staff was in disarray. The counter staff were chaotic almost didn't know what they were doing. It's so sad to see that no one really trains employees anymore. Tow of the employees that were working the counter, we're actually rude to customers. Quite frankly, you can go down to buttercream bakery, in Napa and get a much better pie at half the price . We live in Rutherford so I do enjoy the English muffins , but I won't be ordering anything else from there again. So sad !

Loved the breakfast sandwiches here. We got one on a biscuit and one on an English muffin (both with sausage instead of bacon). Loved both but think the biscuit was a little better, despite being famous for their English muffins. We also got a cortado, which was pretty decent. They are currently under construction so they had an addendum open out in the back with a couple of small tables for seating. Side street parking was available. We went around 9am on a Sunday before wine tastings and there wasn't much of a line. Only 2-4 people ahead of us or so. We were in and out after 30 min (including finishing our sandwiches). Will definitely be back again!

A lot has changed since my first review in 2022. Renovation is over, place is as busy as they can be. They definitely got a better coffee, baked goods are okay and sandwiches are really good. Yet I will go down to 1 star. This place has the most unwelcoming staff I've seen in Napa valley. No one ever smiles, they always look tired, even at 7:30 AM, when I ask a question I really almost feel guilty, as they look like they struggle answering. Another thing - they raised their prices to a level of insanity. Two cappuccinos and a muffin came out to $21. I had the same order three days before for a different price, so I asked if the price was correct. The person looked at me over her shoulder with a look of disgust and mumbled something. My 10 years old, who was with me, asked me "what is wrong with that person, why is she so nasty". I guess when one is that busy, one can afford to be nasty. Shame.

We love Model bakery in Napa and go regularly, so when we were driving past and saw this location, we figured we'd give it a try. Sadly, this location was no where near as good. They were out of most stuff (which also happens in Napa), the service wasn't great, they forgot one of our sandwiches. It wasn't a great experience, and having spent $15+ per sandwich it wasn't cool that one was missing. Disappointed.

I've been lucky enough to come here a few times and each time I've been very happy with that decision. The coffee itself is very good, and the Lavender Latte is one of the very few that hit all of the notes I would want. Not too sweet, but still a bit of flavor. The baked goods are the reason to come here though. Everything from the Egg-Cheese on an English muffin, the humble croissant, the iced Lemon Poppy Loaf, I could go on. If you're in wine country and want a great start to your day, start it here!

We ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches using Model Bakeries website app on our way out of town Sunday. We ordered the original home made English muffin sandwiches with egg cheese and sausage. The muffins were toasted well, the egg was fluffy, the sausage was a little spicy, which I love...it was everything I read about. The sandwich was worth the $13 that they charged. Next time, when I have more time, I'm stopping for pastries and fresh bread.

Came here for breakfast with some friends recently! First of all, seating is limited, and they get pretty packed, so keep that in mind. At the recommendation of one of my friends, I got the "Model Wrap." I'm not kidding when I tell you that it was the best breakfast wrap I've ever had! SO YUMMY! Scrambled egg, bacon, avocado, and a delicious chipotle sauce! This was my first time here, but I'm going to have to order this every time! Also, I had a potluck to attend that night, so I bought an apple pie to-go! It was very pretty, and more importantly, very tasty as well! It was a hit at the potluck for sure! I work nearby, so I'm going to have to start coming here more often!

I enjoyed the English muffins from the Napa location, I had to stop by this location when we happened to be nearby at the right time. This location is even better! Yes, the baked items are delicious, but don't get tempted by the cookies and muffins and pains au chocolat. It's the English muffins you want. Please trust me. Toasted with jam. This location is bigger and has more seating. It's brightly lit and cheery. It's right on the main street of a historic downtown. There is a line, but it moves briskly.

"There's a place in Calistoga that Oprah says has the best English muffins. You should find it." We got this text while on vacation in Napa Valley, so of course we had to find it and get said bagels. We actually got a nice sandwich for lunch there, and a bag of bagels to go. They were in fact the best English muffins we've ever had. My husband loved them and he typically (and unfairly in my opinion) hates English muffins. The sandwich was California good. In other words, fresh and full of flavor combos you'd not find elsewhere.

This review is mainly for the service, or lack there of. If you are thinking of ordering delivery, don't. We ordered breakfast sandwiches at 6:55am from the Model Bakery website to be delivered 10 min away. By 7:45 still no delivery. We called to check on the order and it had been done for 10+ min and "waiting for the delivery driver". By 8:15 I called to see if it was on its way...it was still sitting there. I finally decided to drive over and pick it up myself. When I arrived at 8:30 (an hour and a half after the order was placed) I spoke with the manager to see if they could at least make fresh sandwiches. She said they couldn't as it wasn't "their fault", it was the delivery service. I'm not asking for a refund, just some fresh breakfast sandwiches that you charge $15 each for that probably cost you a couple bucks to make. Fingers were being pointed at everyone else (Toast, DoorDash, Model Bakery, etc) Good customer service would have been to make fresh sandwiches and handle your partnership with your delivery service and any food waste fees between you two. DoorDash told us to take it up with Model Bakery, and then Model Bakery told us to talk to DoorDash. Not a pleasant experience

The famous english muffins. We ordered them both in sandwich format and with jam. The sandwich format flattens the muffins, so get them with jam if you want the fluffiness. It's delicious english muffin, but we think it's cuz they fry the exterior to get that crisp. I was disappointed in the croissant. It was hard and stale the next day. Surprisingly, it wasn't crowded on a Saturday around lunch time. We were able to get a table inside the restaurant no problem.

We came by on a Saturday morning for a quick breakfast before wine tasting. The line was almost at the door, but it went by quickly. The ambiance was holiday themed and super cute. - Eggnog latte (3.5/5): yummy, super thick and sweet. What you would expect from eggnog, can barely taste the coffee! But it was a nice holiday drink - Original breakfast sandwich (4/5): we heard the English muffins here were amazing, and they were delicious! The bread was almost chewy, super soft and great texture. The sandwich was good overall; I would prefer sausage over Canadian bacon next time. Also added some hot sauce for a kick - Chocolate croissant (4.5/5): super flaky, buttery, so good. My friend and I stumbled upon this place while in town. This was our morning breakfast after the long drive up. It was quite packed but the staff were very efficient in getting the line moving quick. We got the Chorizo pizza // apple horn(?) pastry but we fresh and pretty good. The pizza tasted fresh and flavorful. I kinda regretted not getting another one. Staff was super friendly! I'd come back to try some other pastry items.

The stars are full-on for Maddie. Her kindness and friendliness to my brother (pictured) made our time there delightful. The sandwiches and pizza were a bit greasy. We should have tried the pastries to review, but alas. It has a great vibe and service is pretty quick.

Poor customer service. Both workers I interacted with were extremely rude. I ordered $75 worth of pastries. The lady gave me the dirtiest look when I requested a bag. Additionally, they missed two bags of muffins I paid for. I won't be back.
