"Sushi-San in River North has a 10-seat omakase one floor above the restaurant’s usual party of loud hip-hop. It’s one of the city’s more luxurious omakases, with a dark waiting lounge that makes you want to be careful when sitting down, and ingredients that already sound very expensive before the chef’s explanation (1,000-year-old cedar). But the well-paced, 18-course dinner never takes itself too seriously, with its J. Cole soundtrack and a head chef who says “OK, let’s party” after everyone takes a welcoming sake shot. And while not every dish is a powerhouse, there are many memorable bites: a delicate toro tartare covered with caviar, an extra-buttery scallop, and perfectly charred snow beef with wasabi." - john ringor, nick allen, adrian kane

"Similar to Esmé, this restaurant on the upper level of Sushi-San succeeds in creating a five-drink Spirit Free Pairing that is inventive and compliments the 18-course omakase menu, which has some incredible standouts of its own, like the Akami, lean bluefin tuna with buttery shiitake mushrooms or the aka amadai, Japanese tilefish where each scale has hot oil poured over it until they’re spiky and crispy. The NA menu includes drink options like the Subtle Banger with Cider Spice Noir, Passionfruit, and Cinnamon, served in a clay cup that delightfully adds to the taste and experience of the drink, or the Banana Brain (Genmaicha green tea, banana, sesame), or the Strawberry Lapsang Old Fashioned (Lapsang suchang tea and strawberry cordial). — Nylah Iqbal Muhammad" - Nylah Iqbal Muhammad
"This River North omakase spot arrives in Chicago via NYC. They do three seatings a night, and the 105-minute dinner comes with 16 courses for $195. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation
"An intimate, 10-seat sushi counter projected to open in the spring as the third installment in the group's Chicago rollout; it shares a name with a separate venue inside Sushi-San River North but is a distinct project and should not be confused with that location." - Naomi Waxman
