LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"Downtown's dormant nightlife-slash-cafeteria haunt Clifton's Republic is finally reopening over the next few months, and the first venue to return is its top-floor tiki lounge Pacific Seas. Reservations are required and only available Saturdays and Sundays currently, but otherwise expect the same flamboyantly garnished rum drinks and impressively restored tropical island decor (see the full-on speedboat parked in the middle of the bar). 17 Unique Bars In LA

"Clifton’s At Night is a nightlife emporium. This Downtown landmark spans three floors with four different bars (including a tiki bar with a boat in the middle of it), a gigantic dance floor with a live swing band, and aggressive taxidermy everywhere you look. Whatever you’re in the mood for tonight, you’ll be to find it somewhere in here. Just don’t get lost in the fake Redwood forest on the ground floor." - brant cox, brett keating

Where To Drink With Your Out-Of-Town Friends In LA

"Pacific Seas is the hidden tiki bar on the top floor of Clifton’s Republic downtown. While Clifton’s three main floors are worth exploring (and your friend from summer camp definitely needs to feel the rush of watching professionals swing dance in a room full of taxidermy), you’ll want to go up the stairs to Pacific Seas. Here you’ll find a massive space (with a full boat inside), tons of hidden areas to take over, and a tiki cocktail menu that’s delicious and also" - brant cox, brett keating

This bar is a work of art. The drinks, fantastically flavourful and artfully composed. The music selection👌🔥💯 . Note - $20 cover, but they give you 2 free shots and admission to the hidden tiki lounge.

I've been wanting to come here for years! I finally made it in to try some tiki drinks for a date night. The Saturn is probably the best cocktail I've ever had, the employees here are so incredibly nice, and tue ambiance definitely makes you feel like you're in a secret underground party cove despite being up 3 stories. I cant wait to come back here again

10/10 new Tiki lounge. Great drinks, music and vibes

SUPER FUN! Great atmosphere and the Chi Chi Chi was the perfect combo of delicious and punch. Talk to the bartenders. A wealth of information and a great time!!!!

Yelp
If you have never had a decent Mai Tai or Polynesian drink go there! They spent a boat load on the decor and they even have a boat in there! Pacific Seas won't disappoint

Yelp
Went last night for the Exoticion 3 event. Have been here before and of course the Ambience gets 5 Stars. Lovely joint... However, whoever manages Pacific Seas blew it big time. They knew this event was happening and only staffed one bartender and one cocktail waitress for the entire bar! And frankly because of her positive attitude and hustle, the waitress was the only one that almost saved it. There were no bar walk ups and even though we got in right after opening, our drinks took 45 minutes. 45 MINUTES! We could have walked to another bar, got drinks and came back in that amount of time. Not only that we left and came back later and they were playing DJ music from downstairs, totally killing the vibe of the Polynesian experience. (Even staffed up now the bartender still lagged). It's a shame they did not up their game for this. You'd think they would want to make $$$ and show up for the Tiki Scene. Oh well....

Yelp
TLDR: For $350/couple, we got food poisoning (my partner) + no main course after waiting over an hour (me) + disorganization from every staff member My partner brought me here for Valentine's Day - they had a special event called "L.A. Romance." We got the Sunset Cruise package, which included a reserved table from 6pm-8pm, a "legendary" four-course dinner & dessert package for two, music, and other surprises. But, in actuality, we each got to choose an appetizer, a main, and a shared dessert (chocolate cake the size of a large apple). That's 2.5 courses - where's the 4 courses? Music was through the speaker system, not live (which to be fair, they didn't claim it would be). And no surprises other than the horrific experience we endured and never receiving my main course. The Pacific Seas host gave us the regular menu even though he knew we were there for the pre-fixe Sunset Cruise dinner. He did that with EVERY couple. If you know that we're here for this package, why do you not have these menus stocked up front? That way, we can look through the menu as soon as we're seated instead of twiddling our thumbs waiting for the server, who took 10-15 minutes to even acknowledge us! I actually handed my menu to another couple who were seated after us so that they didn't have to waste time waiting to get the correct menu. Drinks arrived AFTER appetizers were finished. My partner's steak arrived 20 minutes after our appetizer plates were cleared. I waited 1hr and 10 mins and my vegetarian pasta never arrived. No one came to check in on us and because we were seated between couples (elbow to elbow), we couldn't easily get in and out to wave her down. The couple next to us called the server over a couple of times to complain about their wait time and the server did nothing about it. They started waving down the manager to complain and even complained on our behalf. The manager, Matthew, threw a couple of drink tokens on our tables and said, "what do you want me to do? we're working on it!" After over an hour wait, I just couldn't wait any longer, so we decided to leave. I was starving by this point and just needed to find food, so couldn't even enjoy the rest of the offerings of that evening. We just went to a KFC drive-thru to get me some dinner. The next day, my partner had SEVERE stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting from the crudo he had here. He was bed-ridden the entire day and was still feeling stomach aches the following 2 days! Not surprised seeing how disorganized everyone was. Maybe me not getting my food was a blessing in disguise. Other notes: - At every table, one person would get their main dish, finish it, and then their partner's main would arrive - The woman next to me got her steak, sent it back because it was too rare, and then received another one and I never got anything - 3 people ordered soup and didn't get spoons - A lady was seated next to the steps and had to get up off her seat every time the server came around because they couldn't access the steps with her sitting down - Other couples waited at least 40 minutes for their desserts

Yelp
We went on a Saturday night. They told us that this was the only bar open at the Clifton's tonight. No cover. You first go to the third floor in Clifton's. Then there's a mirror that you go through and climb a few more stairs. It's a tiki style speakeasy. We got the Saturn and jet pilot. They were ok. Place was not very popping for a Saturday night.

Angie F.

Yelp
Love this spot! The decor is amazing, the drinks are delicious, and the experience just getting here from the front door is a fun adventure! Perfect for our group of 12, but we did come as a couple and had just as much fun! When in LA, you've gotta check out Clifton's and the Tiki Bar! Only things that needs attention is the 3 times I've come, there was not enough bar staff, and the wait is a bit too long. 20 minutes to order from the bar. Worth the wait, but a little too long.

Yelp
For me, this is as close to the perfect tiki bar there is in Socal. From the secret door entrance and decor. To the drinks, food, service and entertainment. Unfortunately, they still aren't open often enough for my druthers and the bathrooms are way too dark.

Yelp
Went for their soft reopening on a Friday at 6pm in August. What an amazing treat! If you are a tiki enthusiast or appreciate vintage nostalgia this is the place. So much great decor and great drinks. Staff was amazing. Everyone from Elle greeting us upon arrival, the security guard, to the bartenders and even spoke with a manager there who gave us a brief history tour, everyone was so awesome!! Really bummed we forgot almost every single name, but hey I blame the alcohol. :) Even got take a peek inside Clifton's since we had never been there before. I really hope this entire place comes back to its full glory. Although I'm not a fan of crowds, this may have been the best way to experience the place before the crowds come back. Either way I'm glad I got to come during the soft reopening. Thanks Pacific Seas!!

Yelp
First time at Cliftons and it was so fun! The speakeasy tiki bar was definitely my fav part! We'll be back for sure.

Yelp
We went for a sneak preview of the reopening of Pacific Seas at Clifton's. It is a beautiful space filled with tiki memorabilia from floor to ceiling. The drinks were pretty good though we had to wait a long time at the bar to get them as the bartenders were quite slow in making these labor intensive drinks. I'll chalk that up to them still learning the menu. And while they were quite tasty, I was quite surprised that I didn't feel any buzz from all that rum even after two drinks. And at $20+ dollars each, I expected more. The service was polite and the music was good but the seating was sparse and none of the seats we had proved to be comfortable. We spied a couple of areas that seemed a bit more cushy but they were taken by others. I look forward to the grand opening to see if things have improved!

Yelp
I'm so glad we had the chance to visit such an iconic and historic location. We had the best night at a special event for Spike Marble. The ambiance was beautiful exotic, spike played great músic and drinks were good

Tania S.

Yelp
The drinks were tasty. We loved the decor, music and overall vibe of PS and Clifton's in general. Our table was ready at our reservation time and we were not rushed out. Drinks are a little pricey, but they're well crafted. Looking forward to going back and enjoying other parts of Clifton's!

Yelp
This is a cool tiki bar, but the inconvenience of going through Clifton (the waits at the Clifton entrance AND Pacific Seas entrance once inside, as well as the $20 cover charge on a Saturday) in order to get to this bar and lounge on the 4th floor, along with the overpriced drinks inside Clifton, take away from the overall experience and make it far less appealing. That being said, visiting Clifton for the first time was kind of cool (exploring the quirky and mysterious decor and props, a maze of displays floor after floor), but yeah, lots of waiting here, club atmosphere with LA vibes... not my cup of tea... nice to have experienced it once though.  Pacific Seas on its own has a pretty great setup, diverse seating options, plenty of space (as they limit the number of people just on that floor), beautiful lighting and unique themed decor, even a boat right in the middle. Note, there are a lot of stairs here, and a lot of standing/waiting (for sure on the weekends, don't know about other days).

Yelp
Didn't order food but will next time. I'm so glad the place hasn't changed since pre-closing. I'd been there about 8-9 years ago and loved it then, too. The decor and ambience is just as we remembered and it's always so fun just entering Clfiton's and wandering on up to the Pacific Seas. The bartenders are amazing! The tiki drinks were perfect and made according to recipes (clearly not pre-mixed or eye-balled). All of them were great (highly recommend the Bali Hai Swizzle, which we agreed was the winner) and they were strong. I was really only bummed that the tiki mug I wanted to purchase wasn't available because apparently other customers were stealing them. :( We'll go back soon, though!

Yelp
If you haven't been to Clifton's Republic since they reopened, what are you even doing??? We went to Pacific Seas last night, and it is incredible! The theming is so perfectly done - which is enough reason right there - but I'd go for the cocktails if they were a truck stop bar. Of particular note - the Message in a Bottle - a coconut milk clarified cocktail full of rum, pineapple, and a banana walnut syrup that had that wonderful milk punch smoothness. If you can, I really recommend you try it! Anastasia was the host when we entered, and she was so amazing! The whole place is fantastic and transportative and wonderful - and Anastasia set the vibe for the whole night by grouping our 2 reservations and getting us into a table together even though we hadn't booked that way. We had the absolute best time, and can't wait to come back!

Yelp
This just wasn't what we expected. The decor is amazing! But the service was a bit slow, we received dirty glasses and there was a spider on the table that ended up in my friend. They forgot a part of our food order but consistently brought plates and drinks that weren't ours. Maybe it was an off night

Dolores A.

Yelp
We enjoyed our visit to Pacific Seas immensely. The decor and ambience is exceptional. The appetizers we tried were delicious-pork skewers, corn fritters, edamame and French fries. The corn fritters and fries were outstanding. The mai tai's were strong with a good flavor. We were there early on the first night of food service. The staff was friendly and working hard to please. We will definitely return especially as other rooms open.

Yelp
A secret, not so secret, Tiki Bar inside of Clifton's Republic in downtown LA. On the 3rd floor of Clifton's, down a hall, there is a full body mirror. Push the mirror (if it isn't already open) and it opens to a stair well. Take the stair well to the top and enter the Pacific Seas. Very nice island vibe with a boat in the center. Seating is limited, FYI, and the lines can be extremely long and take quite a while. The bartenders do put in a lot of work for each drink, but the wait can be exhausting. But, if you want a tiki style drink, it's the only place in the building to get them. After you get your drink, there is an exit to the 4th floor where you can still listen to all the music being played in Clifton's by the DJ of the night. Great vibe and fun atmosphere. I've never not had fun here.

Yelp
I've been trying to support Pacific Seas since the first day they opened but they don't make it easy. They are now re-opened Thursday-Sunday but the website is outdated so you would never know. They don't answer DM's or email, either. I went recently on a Thursday. The decor is still gorgeous but what a disaster. Drinks have devolved over the years. My Zombie did not taste like any Zombie I've ever had. I was not pleased with it. The music is not Exotica (Tiki). Instead, I think they are trying to turn the space into a douchey club. The music was Brazilian or something. Employees had no idea what Exotica was. In fact, it seems like it is every employee's, "third day here." I understand it is hard getting employees to return to work, but at least give them some Tiki education! All my Tiki peeps keep asking, "Whatever happened to Pacific Seas?" It's always been such a mystery here. If they don't even advertise or update their site, I guess they have some sort of agenda. I really hope it works for them... for the sake of this incredible space. Me, I think I'll check back in a couple of years. Sad

Lisa O.

Yelp
Very disorganized place. We had a reservation, but it took them 10 mins. to seat us in a corner where we barely had space to sit. The table in front of us was full of dirty glasses, which they only cleared away part of after we requested it half an hour later. It seemed like no one even knew we were there, and we finally flagged someone down. Approx. 30 minutes later we still had no food, and then finally the group next to us asked if we had ordered fries and chicken skewers. We had, and apparently the waitress had given them our food. They passed it over, but by then they had talked over it, and it was cold. When we told the waitress, she said that was the last chicken skewer available. We just asked for the food to be removed from our bill, and she took it away. They were out of their specialty drink and dessert I wanted. A Mai Tai and Fogcutter were 50 dollars. Good drinks, but overpriced and definitely not worth the terrible service, trouble of going to sketchy downtown L.A and paying 20 bucks for parking. Very disappointing experience.

Yelp
I've been hearing about Pacific Seas since it's opening and on speakeasy lists as well. As a fan of Clifton's, I had been meaning to go for months and finally had the opportunity one Saturday night after dinner for a nightcap. Upon entering Clifton's (and missing the cafeteria *wipes tear from eye*), it becomes a "where's Waldo" to find the magic mirror door to find entry! It takes awhile and I refer to my handy Yelp app (*no I don't get commission for the shout out*), but I then find the magic mirror that opens up to a black staircase. And can hear '40s style music echoing from the top of the stairs. At the top, voila! A dimly lit, 1940s' sounding, Pacific vintage (WWII) artifact encompassing tiki bar awaits your presence as you make your way around to the bar to choose your Poison. With the Singapore Sling as my choice, I seated myself in a Cosy corner taking a look at the small food menu (very salty and pricy), while shortly being approached thereafter if I'd like to order anything (I declined). A great, cozy little bar to hang out (with friends) & experience the heart of the vintage vibe DTLA has to offer at its historic theater district on Broadway. I do recommend it, for it's vintage novelty!

Yelp
Enjoyed my Zombie cocktail; my date enjoyed his Mai Tai. Fun venue decorated in a mish-mash of 1920s - 1960s tropical objets d'art. Some very beautiful pieces and some just plain silly. All fine at a bar.

Yelp
Love this place! The decor was amazing and knowing the history between this place and Bahookas in Rosemead made it even better. Drinks were delicious but it would depend on the bartender. A slender fellow with glasses was the ones that made these delicious libations. I went with my fiancé and two of our friends. I cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
Our drinks were great! Thank you for making our drinks. Both were good. Waited only a few minutes to get in when we stopped by on a Saturday night.

Yelp
This was stop number 3 on our birthday bar hopping adventure on a Thursday night. I'm in love with this dimly lit tiki bar! It's located on the top floor of Clifton's past a mirrored door. I loved the kitschy island decor that's typical of tiki bars and the laid back uncrowded vibe. There were little nooks around the bar and an unexpected boat by the bar. You read that right. A boat. Service was excellent and Jasmine was our wonderful and personable server who whipped up our delicious cocktails. I loved her recommendation- Trade Winds which was not overly sweet. A truly delicious drink. I was told they have different events on different nights at Clifton's. We stayed for one drink and went downstairs to dance and scope out the rest of the place. The table next to us ordered food and it looked delicious. My group loved our time here and have already discussed coming back!

Yelp
Pacific Seas: 4 Me: 1 My track record of getting in here might not be the best (admittedly due to my more casual nightlife outfits), but this time I was determined! Turn me down? Fine! To the department store across the street I will go! Picked up some cheap Hawaiian-themed dress clothes right as the store was closing and came back for round 2 of the night. This time? Success! I finally got in!! ************ What is Pacific Seas? Pacific Seas is a top notch tiki bar speakeasy located inside of one of the best bars/clubs in all of DTLA: Clifton's Cafeteria. This is a multi-story bar, and entrance to the Pacific Seas is up a flight or two. That's the only hint I will give you to find it, which is half the fun, anyways! Note that this place does not usually charge cover. Once inside, I found myself immediately impressed by the lighting and decor. This speakeasy, though not huge by any means, is decent in size. I enjoyed exploring the premises and taking in all the great decorations. This place is done very well. They weren't letting too many people in, so it never got too overly-crowded, which was nice. I am really a beer person when it comes to bars, but I felt festive and ordered the Navy Grog, priced at $14. The roots of this drink date back to a British Naval tradition from the 1740's! With Jamaican white and gold rums, lime, grapefruit, allspice, and honey, I was a fan! The people here were all generally friendly. I didn't get any stuck-up vibes and everyone seemed pretty down to earth. The bartenders were nice and easily accessible to order from. The ambiance and atmosphere were on point. I really enjoyed the shell necklaces they gave us on our way in. This is definitely the coolest tiki bar I have been to! If looking for a cool new place to try out, definitely head to Pacific Seas. They enforce an "elevated" dress code, so come prepared. Be prepared to walk up some sets of stairs. Once inside, you will not be disappointed. This place has definitely got it going on. I cannot wait to come back!

Yelp
I remember coming here pre-covid. Fun atmosphere, love the 'secret' entrance, entertainment like hula dancers! Awesome cocktails, get a leia flower necklace at bdays/special events!

Yelp
After we had gone to the Tiki Ti bar the night before my friend took us to Pacific Seas at Clifton's. This tiki bar has much more room for lounging which is a plus. Our drinks were delicious, strong and not overwhelming sweet. I had a hurricane and my lady friends had the Negro Paloma and the ChiChi. We were all happy campers but i think the chichi was the most delicious and a smidge better that the one at the Tiki Ti. We were able to find a table to lounge at and enjoy the fun ambiance. We decided to head down stairs for our next drink. I wish we had stayed upstairs to be honest. I wanted a mojito and downstairs didn't have mint and I bet they did have it upstairs at the Pacific Seas. My next visit in L.A. will definitely wash me ashore the Pacific Seas.

Jen E.

Yelp
Tucked away on the top floor of Clifton's, through a mirrored door manned by a pretty hostess. As soon as you step in, you can't help but be in awe. I've seen my share of tiki bars and this one really feels immersive.Tons to look at: props, wall art, even the thoughtful menus including history blurbs that really evoke a tropical vibe. Doesn't come off as too corny. Different places to sit, all with different vibes throughout the room. I couldn't help thinking that early in the night, it's great for a group pre-game or a date. The boat in the middle of the room/bar definitely caught our eye- we saw a DJ setting up around 9. I was into it. Only call-out is the mai tai we had- I may be biased since I am from Hawaii but it was more yellow than gradient pink/orange, super rum-heavy and light on the fruit juices or the standard dark rum float that comes with the typical mai tais I'm used to. But, it was true to the menu (picture/recipe) and I guess for those chasing an instant buzz it does the trick, so can't really gripe. Oh and there is a dress code. My friend got called out; a server mentioned she was surprised to see him pass through without having a collared shirt. Didn't realize they were that stringent, but I do remember hearing of people in shorts being turned away.

Yelp
A MUST DO! THIS TIKI BAR ROCKS! THIS HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY REFURBISHED TO ITS FORMER GLORY HEYDAY. I went to the USO Show @ Clifton's & when the show was over; they had a private party in the Tiki room upstairs. Well that Tiki Room is beyond Amazing. It's way better in person than my pictures illustrate. They have Tiki artifacts everywhere & items from The Pacific Seas their other former restaurant. They have a cool bar & the coolest DJ booth you've ever seen. It is in a wooden boat on the dance floor. So Much Fun! I can't comment on the drinks I didn't drink. This place is so Cool. I Love Clifton's. The Tiki Lifestyle is Making a Big Comeback @ Clifton's. It used to be, you had to have mega bucks & be really rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!

Yelp
This bar is located in the Clifton's on the fourth floor. The entrance is a large mirror that you can push to open. Follow the stairs and you will find the tiki bar. I really loved the concept and the space reminded me something out of Adventureland at Disneyland. The drink menu was okay...mostly fruity and tropical drinks. They were delicious but if you're looking for drinks with more of a punch, this place might not have the drinks you're looking for
google avatar

Darylynn D.

Yelp
Love it here. It's a super secret bar through a mirror door on the third floor. Everything is a tropical theme and it's great. There is a ship in the middle of the room so it does take up some seating space. Reservations are highly recommended otherwise it is standing room. I had the Pacific Seas Daiquiri and I enjoyed it very much. The servers were great and take their time in making the cocktails.

Yelp
(Drank 06/14/18 TH @ 9:00pm): The strong seas of crafted cocktails would easily pacify me! After dessert with friends at nearby The Dolly Llama, it was time to end the evening with a nitecap which was a perfect opportunity to finally try the much ballyhooed tiki bar Pacific Seas located inside historic Clifton's Republic. It was now just two Islanders who looked for a stiff drink in a relaxed setting, and this place certainly fit the bill! Would the aloha spirit and cocktails be welcoming enough for a return trip to this DTLA island!? PURCHASE Fog Cutter + Souvenir Mug ($17.00 + $18.00): Described as "tart & dry; a potent concoction, fashioned to cut through the mundane mists that cloud your day. Fresh citrus mixed precisely with house made orgeat, white rum, cognac, gin, and cherry," this was one strong mofo of a cocktail that had all sorts of flavors tossed around in your mouth as if you just wiped out on a back-breaking wave at Sunset Beach. Gin was the most noticeable of the bunch as was always the case, but once you gave it a few seconds to settle into your mouth and down your throat, it was calming like the white wash as it flowed back out once it hit the sand. Mind you... hella pricey https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=k1_d1YBJqAKkmaPeibaq2A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! SERVICE Once we found the "secret entrance", we were greeted by a charming wahine at the bottom of a staircase before we ascended ahead to some Polynesian pleasure and made our way to the bar where there was a few minutes' wait for the bartender who was crafting a fanciful cocktail. Once we had his undivided attention, he presented us with menus, gave us a brief lowdown, and shortly after we were ready to order. Our drinks were made right in front of us with the utmost care, and soon we casted away for a better view of the evening's entertainment. All was good and chillin'! PARKING (Varied; n/a this instance) I personally went Metro on the Red Line to the Pershing Square Station which was no more than a 10-minute walk away. Otherwise, there was minimal metered street parking with audacious time limits and a plethora of paid parking lots with obscene rates found all over the area. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE This hidden Hawaiian heaven had a tinge of dive bar and was dark as if you were floating on a raft in the middle of the ocean under twinkling tiny stars. There were many hideaway nooks to enjoy your beverage or perhaps a risque rendezvous, but by the same token it seemed snug and warm as if you were in a sweat lodge. There was an odd focal point of a pint size "Minnow" (that wasn't the actual name of the boat) in the middle of the room along with an L-shaped bar, a live stage, and various booths, barstools and tables to sit at https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=HG13Ufp6sSFKhdt51Mto0g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. And to round things out, of course all the Polynesian paraphernalia (tiki galore https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=zLWeqRZksU78Un56bShj-A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw) you could think of covered every inch of this place; I simply waited for Magnum P.I. to make an appearance to complete the scene! There were no TVs but Polynesian music played in the background and eventually a live surf band https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=DoPZZ5ObWniKaoV_gxHoVQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw with two dancers dressed in hula skirts https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=BF3OvH9-KlX741HkIaFLAA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw rounded out the night. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt (or aloha shirt), boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I enjoyed Pacific Seas and all the glorious island living kitschiness it had to offer, and would certainly return even if it was just to chill and enjoy the entertainment. However, drinks were limited https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=21YCnNANjNlB47GySyrfNQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and pricey https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=thscyFrm6q9cLb9ixhdzag&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, extremely noisy if you wanted to converse with your guest, and quickly got warm. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $35.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Yelp
All I can say is wow! I love me a tiki bar and omg this place surpassed my wildest dreams. Clifton's is cool as hell but going up three flights of stairs to enter back Into time to tiki heaven was so worth it. The young lady bartender with red hair was efficient and very informative. The security person was a dick and out of control lol and someone pooped in the bathroom which aren't closed off well enough to be shitting in. Other than that it was magical

Yelp
Loved this place! The first thing I look for in a tiki bar is atmosphere. This place has it covered! From the mysterious directions on how to try to find it once inside the building...to the actual inside of the bar once we entered, it was just fun. It's dim and exotic, the way a tiki bar should be. There really isn't all that much seating. We got lucky because there was no line (we were there early though, around 6:30 or 7 on a Friday) and we were able to snag a perfect table for a party of 3. I had read up about the dress code, and while I don't know if it would be strictly enforced, I made sure to wear a dress and some snazzy new heels I just bought (sparkly and black, more like booties, just got them at Wasteland that day, such a fabulous place...but anyway). As long as you don't look like a slob, you could probably get away with most anything other than tanks, flip flops, and that sort of thing. The feeling was friendly, not snobbish. I prefer to go all-out with a hawaiian dress, hair flower, shells, etc. when I go to anyplace tiki, but it was really chilly and rainy out and I couldn't even stand the idea of wearing open-toed shoes. So now on to the drinks, the next super important part of any tiki bar. First of all, I wish I'd gotten the name of our bartender, because he was excellent. He was patient and took his time answering our questions, describing the drinks, and making suggestions. I'm pretty picky about what I drink, especially when it's going to be roughly $15. For the first round I had the Tradewinds, which I enjoyed a lot. I was in a coconutty mood (I am usually in a coconutty mood). I do not like anything too tart/sour. I told our bartender all this, and he suggested several drinks. I didn't regret this one. I took a sip of my sister's navy grog and it was good, but quite a bit more tart than the Tradewinds. But let's talk now about round two. My, oh my, round two! All three of us had the Painkiller. To give you an idea how much we liked it, my sister's quote pretty much sums it up, "I want to drink one of these every day for the rest of my life". It was so yummy. According to a website, it is a specialty of the British Virgin Islands, and is similar to a pina colada. I know I love pina coladas, so that would partly explain it. But something really special about it was that it was topped with nutmeg. So if you don't like nutmeg, you probably would hate the drink, but it added something extra. A warning to those of you who are not used to tiki drinks: do not be fooled by the cute mugs they come in, or the cherry garnishes or the parasols or any of that. They are so innocent-looking, but they are POTENT. They are also really tasty so they go down well. A little too well sometimes. We were told by our knowledgeable and friendly bartender that each drink has around 3 oz. of booze. So you figure, if you have 4 drinks, you just had 12 shots! I wisely limited myself to two, but my sister and husband...well, let's just say they weren't at their very best later in the night or the next morning. If you like tiki places, try this place. Just try it! If you don't like crowds, maybe consider going at a less busy time like I did. Take time to savor the atmosphere and just relax. Aloooooooooha!

Yelp
This place is super cute! I totally understand the hype and appeal of checking out this bar. Clifton's, in general, has a really cool vibe. There are so many different rooms/bars that have a different theme, so you can never get bored (it's like bar hopping indoors!). Pacific Seas is the cool speakeasy that everyone wants to get into. I didn't know too much about the place before coming on a Friday night. I was in the secret room by 9pm, which was perfect because by 9:30pm, they brought out the waitlist! My friends who came later on around 10/10:30pm only had to wait about 20 minutes. I believe they text you when it's your turn to enter, so at least you can walk around the rest of the bar and relax a bit. I like that they have a waitlist--mainly because it keeps the bar from being overwhelming packed. I hate dealing with people shoving or having to tippy-toe over the bar just to get a drink. This place was at perfect capacity for the entire time I was there (until a little past 12). They also had some really interesting drinks (if you like sweets)! - Singapore Sling - Pretty yummy! I could sip a few and not be tired of it :) - Pacific Seas Daiquiri - Loved this! It was delicious and had a cute flower floating in the middle. - Blue Hawaiian - Not bad. Sweet drink. - Painkiller - Kind of tasted like a pina colada. If you like coconut, get this drink! My friend also had a "Zombie"...it's supposed to be super strong. I'd call it this bar's version of a Long Island--meant to get you super drunk at a lower cost! Overall, this is a great place to just relax with a group of friends over some very cute cocktails. Definitely grab a table or make a reservation if you have a large group and don't want to be standing all night!

Yelp
This is hands down the best tiki bar in LA to bring a group of friends. The DJ spins behind a boat bar that sails into the middle of the room. Each seating area is decorated in style with unique mini themes. The place is SPACIOUS! DANCING ROOM. The drinks and cocktails are so much fun. Imbibe. Dance. No cover charge. Secret hideaway. Follow the dress code. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Came in for thier newly open bar this time around! It's a tiki bar theme deep within Clifton's, past several staircase and through a mirrored wall! Shhhh it's a secret! You're welcomed to a room with a 20's travel feel, with the walls plastered with the map of the world. As soon as you are greeted by the host up front, you walk into a what I would describe as a Polynesian bar with an old fashioned nautical theme. I believe they have bought all of their items from the once used to be Bohooka on Rosemead as well Trader Vic's when those restaurants went out of business and sold thier decorations. There's a boat in the middle of the bar (though you unfortunately can't sit in it.) And lights that look like globes and pufferfish! A solid tiki bar with good vibes and plenty of seats. Who knew Clifton's had a double identify at night!

Yelp
It's a little bit of paradise in LA! Look for the mirrored door on the third floor of the Clifton's Republic. As soon as you enter, there will be a hostess who will ask how many people are in your party and then direct you to make your way up another set of stairs again. My friend and I were able to get in fairly easy without making reservations but maybe because it was just the two of us. Probably best to make reservations if you're in a big group. And then we walk into a room that has been transformed into a Hawaiian luau. Really cute spot with island music, hula dancers, tiki decor, and strong tropical drinks. My friend and I both opted for the Trade Winds ($14) off of the menu. Don't be fooled by how innocent this drink looks with its umbrella and pineapple garnish and all....because its dangerously strong! It was a nice change of pace that takes you back to a little bit of Hawaii while in the busy hustle and bustle of LA.

Yelp
Let's not kid ourselves, this place gets 5 stars for ambience. It is a beautiful sight to behold. And there are so many delicious tiki details throughout. It's hipster Disneyland. It's magical. No, seriously, MAGICAL. So, why not 5-stars? Well...it kind of is a zoo. If you want to sit, you need to make reservations -- otherwise you get to stand in the crowd. And honestly it wouldn't be so bad, but there's a really annoying caliber to the clientele. Everyone is trying so terribly hard. And also the drink menu -- I have seen so much better at "lesser" tiki bars. Maybe lay off the craft cocktail thing a tad? Or don't. But I've had far better Blue Hawaiians at Chinese restaurants for far less money. When you are talking $20/drink per tip, I don't care if the bar is stunning and you are in LA with cool people -- it better be one of the best drinks you've ever had and this wasn't even close. Though I will give it to them that they have strong pour. The service was either fair or excellent depending on the staff member. The poor hostess seemed rather frazzled because they opened too early -- but she was delightful none the less. The bartender had zero personality. This place has a dress code, which I find excellent. If you want to look around, I suggest coming when they first open (around 6 - 6:30). Push through the mirror door on the 3rd floor hallway and enter the dark staircase and climb your way up to this truly breathtaking island paradise. Take note of all the details. Grab an overpriced rum drink and enjoy the space to walk around, find one of the seats that don't already hold a "reserved" sign and enjoy. If you are in DTLA, you have to go at least once. This is definitely a place to take your out of town friends. It's impressive.

Yelp
Speedy stop before a concert resulted in a mai tai & rum barrel served up by Nick - the mai tai had a little too much ice for my personal liking, but the drink itself was tasty. Shifted gears to the rum barrel - layered and mixed to perfection. Loved seeing the reaction from my friend from the slightly secret entrance and the speedy service on the weeknight Cheers!

Yelp
Truly a breathtaking bar! Truly a pain to get in bar! Don't bother making reservations, unless you plan on having a party. I went during the week right at opening (Wednesday at six-six thirty?) pit my name on the guest list and bada bing, I was in. The bar itself is absolutely pleasing to the eye, the people... not so much!! As I sat at the bar, I shrieked at hearing the drink orders being placed. "Something with rum", "Can you just make me a gin and tonic?", "what kind of beers do you have?", or my personal fav, "Can you make me something that isn't so sweet?" Seriously, of you wanted a regular drink you should've stayed downstairs! The drink menu isn't too grand, and the bartenders recommend the same drink over and over. If you're a tiki aficionado, don't expect to find anyone to your liking here. Bunch of yuppies!

Yelp
It's a shame that this place only has three stars, because I went for the first time last night, and it was MAGICAL. It seems like most of the lower ratings are due to things like the dress code and how long the wait to get in can be, but that is to be expected of a newer and trendy LA venue. My coworkers and I arrived around 7pm on a Friday night, and there was no wait to get in. It took us a normal wait time to order drinks at the bar, and after standing around for about 30 minutes, we were able to snag a table. From there, we got very friendly and attentive table service, so I was not shy about the tip I left behind. The decor, music, drinks, and general atmosphere were all amazing. - I loved sharing the 4-person Scorpion Bowl...it tasted like passionfruit, guava and spiced with cinnamon. - I ordered a Chi Chi for myself, which was a creamier, coconut-based drink. - I also took a few sips of my coworker's Hurricane, which was much more acidic and refreshing (probably my favorite out of the three). Tips: - You don't need to be dressed to the nines (just not flip flops, T-shirts, etc.). - They don't serve food (I wish they did), so plan on either eating before or after. - Get there earlier so you're not in a long line to get in. - Valet parking is worth it. There is a large parking structure across the street, but you will end up paying about the same price.

Yelp
I read plenty of horrid reviews for this place, but I had a great experience at Pacific Seas. I would recommend either making a reservation or coming here as soon as they open at 6 pm. If you come later, the host will take your number and call you when there's room available. Reception is horrible in here, but there's free WIFI if you need it. Once inside, find a nice little corner or a small open table. The staff informed us that there is no longer a menu because folks kept stealing them. Since there is no menu, the staff came over as soon as we were settled in and listed their drinks and asked about our preference. The drinks are strong here, so you really only need one...maybe 2 if you didn't drink anything else beforehand. Drinks: Mai Tai (5/5 - the best! strong, yet tasty) Painkiller (4/5) Blue Hawaiin (3.5/5 - sweet/creamy coconut) Bottom line: nice speakeasy style tiki-bar, quality drinks, plus good service. Tip: The later you go, the stricter the dress rules apply. My friend was not allowed inside because he had a backpack. Overall, Clifton doesn't allow their patrons to go up to the third floor if you're dressed too casual, especially shoes. I hope you have better luck than most people when you go to Pacific Seas. I can't wait to come back and have a Mai Tai again, cheers!

Yelp
I had heard mixed reviews about Pacific Seas washing to shore, but thought it still warranted a visit. I was able to drop in on a Thursday night and see the spectacle for myself. The lower floor bars and the journey to the top floor justified the trip alone. It is absolutely surreal and beautiful at the same time. I kinda wish I had a few more drinks in me prior to walking in just to add to the weirdness. Once I actually made it into Pacific Seas I had to take my time looking around before ordering some drinks. I usually get a drink, THEN wander around the tiki bar. It seemed to be a good mix of people in there for drinks. I watched people sip their first Blue Hawaii and other drinks that are certainly conversation starters. I thought the two drinks I had were better than expected, but nowhere near the quality of ambiance. Not only that, they were bumping a great mix of tropical - retro - grab bag of music. It wasn't a straight tiki-exotica mix, but it was still very well curated. I guess I'd recommend Pacific Seas for the overall vibe more than the drinks. I would recommend everyone should at least get to Clifton's at least once for the experience. Also, the post drinks walk-out was equally entertaining.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday night at the request of my girlfriends to try it out, the line outside was down the block but moved quickly enough. Got in and the place was packed with a bunch of drunk try hards. You have to walk up to the 2nd floor to wait to get into Pacific Seas. One girl puked on the carpet next to me on the way up. We waited on a second line to get to the tiki bar and then was told we needed to get a gold coin from the first floor, so down we went again and waited some more. Finally got in, it was slightly less packed and smelly, music was unremarkable 50sish, and full of awful tiki couture and white sexy hula dancers. As an Asian person, the orientalism was pretty grating. Got the scorpion bowl for $40, ended up with more ice than drink, but at least it was kind of strong? Shared with 4 people and we each got about 2 sips in, so you're probably better off getting an individual drink instead of the bowl. While waiting for my friend to get out of the bathroom, a white dude did a karate kid bow at me, so that was pretty not cool. Probably never going back and I can't recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
Best Tiki bar in DTLA! Tried the Scorpion bowl it was super boozy and delicious. The bartender was so friendly! even offered us shots and was super attentive to us. Enter through a Mirror door and go up the stairs to find a hidden gem. Definitely worth to check out.

Yelp
Absolutely the cleanest, nicest and largest Tiki bar in LA. I've been to nearly all, and most smell like ass in a fish hammock. This place has their design down to perfection, and on the night I was there (Thurs) there was a 1960's Hawaiian lounge music DJ playing actual LPs in the yacht dead center of the room! He was throwing down all the best Les Baxter, Yma Sumac, & Martin Denny, in other words all the great Ultra-Lounge songs befitting the place and the space; it was swingin! The drinks were good as you could probably get not being in actual Hawaii, and standard price by LA standards $14 each. (PS, the TIKI TI's diabetes producing cocktails are dangerously pricy as well.) And when the lid of an actual torpedo accidentally fell on one of our drinks we were IMMEDIATELY taken care of and a new round was brought out to us, care of Sebastian the manager. Those cats are class acts for sure. Not sure why everyone else is claiming the douche-factor is off the charts, but shouldn't you be more busy eye-effing your date than paying attention to everyone else? Mahalo Pacific Seas. Cant wait to sail by there again.

Yelp
Why do all the drinks taste like a spice? Blech! I ordered the zombie because the description was rum + apricot brandy. When I got it, it tasted like I was biting into a fennel bulb @_@ Then I got the punch bowl but instead of the scorpion, I got it with the mastodon instead since I overheard the bartender describe it to others and it sounded amazing! The whole thing was just covered with globs of cinnamon x_X Bar is definitely cute though! And surprisingly, it wasn't crazy crowded at 8pm on a Saturday.

Yelp
Awesome vibe and staff. I came here with my friends to celebrate my birthday (pre covid) and it was fantastic! Delicious food and amazing drinks!
