Where to Find Terrific Thai Food in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"This modest counter restaurant with limited tables and seats in its outdoor patio showcases the wonderful variations of pad Thai by regions. The northern Chiang Mai version features a massaman non-spicy curry while the southern Chaiya style is heavy on the roasted coconut cream. There are a few other options, including a hybrid pad Thai, combining the southern style with green curry that’s trending in Thailand." - Helen I. Hwang

Super quaint and cute spot. Memorably delicious. Simple menu and great explanations for different styles of pad thai. Spice on the side was a good idea for me. Small spot but implied in the name. Kind of chilly in the shade, as is common in San Diego. Decent space for free parking. Highly recommend.

I feel like the past 2-3 times I've ordered have been a waste of money. There's literally no sauce, just bland noodles. I wish I could say this is the first time but I kept trying it again. I think it's time to find a new place. Guys I'm not even exaggerating, there's no sauce at all and the bean sprouts smelled and tasted so old ˙◠˙ For over $15/plate, I expected so much more

Google
Great, authentic pad Thai! We ordered the lobster pad Thai northern style and the seafood (shrimp, scallops, mussels, calamari) pad Thai southern style. Everything tasted great, with lots of love. We also got a Thai tea which was very tasty. Extremely nice and sweet staff and the food came out quickly. Dog friendly patio as well. Definitely recommend!

Google
This place is a gem is a gem of san diego! A totally unique concept where you pick the region of thailand you want your pad thai to be — the southern is my absolute favorite ! The only have pad thai and their pad thai is one of the best in san diego! It is a small buisness and the owner is often at the locations ! It’s clean and you can tell he really loves his buisness and pad thai and it comes out in the amazing flavor and quality ! Support this small buisness — I promise you will not regret it **I already ate quite a bit of the pad thai in the photo — the quantity is way more !

Google
Always a treat! This is our favorite place to go after dance class. The best pad Thai we’ve ever had. My personal favorite is the boran old style

The food here is only really good when the older staff members are on duty. I don't know their names but I recognize them. They're nice and the food is always well-seasoned and spicy enough. However, whenever it's the younger kids that work there that are on, the food is always either underseasoned or incorrect, and sometimes they seem so high out of their minds that they can't place my order correctly. This last time I ordered, the younger staff was working and I asked for a 3/3 spice level on my pad thai and it came out barely seasoned, barely spicy. It's the second time they do this. This place could easily be 5 stars if they addressed these staffing problems.

Google
Okay, let's talk about this awesome little Thai place. It's not fancy – you'll find it tucked into a strip mall, and honestly, the trash bins out front isn't winning any awards. But trust me, the food is something special. This isn't your average Thai takeout joint. They've got dishes from four different regions of Thailand, which is pretty cool. I went for something from Northern Thailand, and even though I asked for "just a touch" of spice, it was still pretty fiery! But in a good way, you know? The flavors were amazing – sweet, sour, salty, all balanced perfectly. And let's talk about the chicken. It was so tender and juicy, not dry like you get at some places. The pad thai was a step above the usual, with an incredible peanut sauce that I could have eaten with a spoon. The staff were super friendly, too. The cashier was really helpful in explaining the menu and making recommendations. Just a heads up: the place itself is nothing fancy. You'll probably want to get your food to go. But hey, who cares when the food is this good? So, if you're looking for authentic Thai food with amazing flavors, this is the place. Don't be put off by the location – this place is a hidden gem!

Google
Ordered to go, found a long strand of black hair & called to ask for a refund. Two orders were placed, and I only requested for one to be fair (the other seemed fine). My hair is very short and red. Workers said that they were unable to do so, boss was out of town... not well receptive on helping with follow-up on the issue either. Overheard them complaining about my request in the background as well. Not professional mannerism for a mistake that is on their part... update: hair found in other dish, as well as an eggshell remnant 😐

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat at in SD! I love bringing friends who visit to Pad Thai Stand. Great portion size, always have a bit of leftovers for lunch the next day. I always get the northern style, with chicken, maximum spiciness (which I feel like is equivalent to a medium spicy at other Thai places I've been to?). I have yet to try the coconut cream Thai tea-- it's always sold out by the time I get there-- but I've heard nothing but glowing reviews about it. Very quick service, this is truly operated like a stand but there is a small outdoor covered seating area with tables. Super friendly owner who always says hi and is easy to start conversations with.

Yelp
I used to really love this place. The owner is friendly, the service was always solid, and the food used to be incredible. The first photo is actually what kept me coming back--the flavor was spot on, and it felt worth every penny. I've probably been here around a dozen times. But lately, things have changed. I gave this place multiple chances, hoping it was just a one-off bad day, but the last three visits were all the same. The noodles were dry, clumpy, and undercooked, and the bean sprouts were actually rotten. I had to take the food home and re-cook it with my own sauce just to make it edible. I even mentioned it to the cashier when I opened the box to make sure I got the right order. They told me the noodles just absorb the sauce quickly, but in my experience there was no sauce at all. Everything was stuck together in thick globs. I haven't been back since, which is really disappointing because this used to be one of my favorite spots.

Yelp
How has no one mentioned the service... rude to be frank. The girl at the front and who took my order was direct and nice enough however... I got medium spice which is more sweet than spicy and half bean sprouts although we called in and requested for none. Our order was repeated to us too. Chicken is like dry scraps. I'll give it to them for generous portion but it's safe to say I won't be returning

Yelp
It was fine. I remember coming here a couple of years ago and thinking that it was really good, but it was on the bland side today. It was lacking color and I was hoping that it tasted better than it looked, but it just fell flat. I'm not sure if Thursday nights have a different chef compared to weekends but I don't think I'll be coming back. I'll stick to getting my pad thai at Koon Thai probably. Thai tea was nothing special; tastes a little watered down. There is a parking lot and some seating available. Ask the staff if you need to use their restroom.

Yelp
Sometimes, I deliver food with DoorDash in the Clairemont/Kearny Mesa area. One night, I delivered plate after plate of tantalizingly-delicious-smelling Pad Thai from the Pad Thai Stand and thought, "Dang, this place is so popular that I'll have to come back and try it for myself." Today, I finally treated myself to my own order. The Pad Thai Stand is tucked away in suburban Clairemont on Ashford and Beagle. Not only do they embody the "hole-in-the-wall," stereotype, but they are also a shining example of a restaurant only having one dish, but doing it exceptionally well. They have four styles of Pad Thai: Northern (Chiang-Mai), Central (Bangkok), Southern (Chai-Ya), and Old Style (Boran). Each order of Pad Thai can be ordered with chicken, veggies, tofu, or shrimp. For $2 more, you can order the Pad Thai with the vegetarian/vegan ayutthaya sauce. They also appear to have gluten-friendly options on the menu. I opted for the Central (Bangkok) style this time around and ordered it with chicken, peanuts, and scallions. I absolutely DEMOLISHED this plate. Pad Thai sauce is typically made with tamarind, fish sauce, oyster sauce, and brown sugar, but The Pad Thai Stand's sauce has additional layers of umami that leads me to believe that they blend in some dried shrimp as well. The bean sprouts and lime served alongside provide a welcome, bright fresh crunch. This is easily the best, freshest, serving of Pad Thai noodles I've ever had. I can't wait to go back and try the other styles!

Yelp
Tried this place cause it popped up as the closest to me after class. It literally is just a stand with Pad Thai options of proteins and sauces based on regions. I got the original. It was really good as far as I remembered. The noodles were a little too al dented for me though. But the spice was right on the spot& the sauce was tangy and sour. I think I have to try it again to see if I like it like that. Lol.

Yelp
Preface this by saying, we are Pad Thai snobs. LOL My husband is Thai, we owned a Thai restaurant, so I WILL SAY IT PROUD. we are snobs in Thai food lol. We had high hopes for this spot. We have gone back 3 days in a row just to give them a chance/ eat it correctly. Each time has been late night..after 9pm ish, never busy. Do recommend calling in, since they take awhile/it's never quite ready even when you get there. But! more reason to open up that box so it doesn't dry out. First time - we ordered the central (classic/basic) and northern (peanut-y flavor). Both medium spicy. even for my Thai husband. DONT RUIN YOUR TASTEBUDS, stick with MILD or NO SPICE. lol besides being extra spicy, sadly we ate this back at the hotel...which was like 10 mins away? And the color on both pad thais were disappointing. It looked dry and not enough sauce. We definitely recommend getting shrimp and adding dried shrimp and sweet radish. It wasn't badddd, but the noodles clumped up way too quick. second time - decided to give them another try. only ordered the classic pad thai, no spice, shrimp, dried shrimp and radish. MUCH better. we did open it in the car to eat, so that we could try it fresh to see if that made a different. It wasss saucier, a little on the sweeter side, but the lime helped cut it. but much more satisfied, and one of the better pad thais we've had. third time - we decided to give the old style (boran) a try. one of the workers remembered me, LOL and we chatted. I mentioned my last visits, and he made an effort to make this one saucier LOL. and indeed it tasted good. I will say one of the better, best? pad thais we've had ever. We agreed with another review that sometimes it's a gamble. and we gambled 3 times before confirming that they're good. LOL if anything, they're cool folks, who do take suggestions, and if you happen to like your pad thai a certain way, I think you should let them know. a no frills spot, definitely feels like you're in Thailand in a little shop, lol. We recommend it to friends.

Yelp
I can't express how tasty their pad Thai is! I ordered the Southern and Northern. Both are good but wow the Southern- Chai- Ya was sooooo good and delish. I'll def order it again. No seating but ordered online. You'll get street view and people watching

Yelp
I've been and coming and going to The Pad Thai Stand for years now. The bad news is it that prices have gone up (but then again, what hasn't gotten more expensive?!) and that quality can be a hit or miss (see other Yelp reviews). The good news? When it's good, it's DAMN good - just like when I picked up tonight. I ordered Northern and Bangkok style and 2 Thai teas. The former is on the sweeter and citrusy side, complimenting the peanut base/sauce. The latter, as described, is the "common" pad thai. If you like it traditional, I suggest the latter. However, if you want more of a punch, 100% Northern style. My parents surprisingly preferred the Bangkok style and claimed my Northern style was "too sweet." But that's OK because more for me, lol. Their Thai tea is a bit too strong for my taste, but it is still good. One order can most definitely be shared between 2 people. In fact, my parents shared one and I have leftovers for my Northern style. Leftovers are only fair considering they cost $15+ for each! To circle back on the "good news"--let me put it this way: when I asked my parents what they thought and their rating, they said they would get it again and that tonight's order was an 8/10. Granted, my parents are both homecooks and I have been so fortunate for this (and for so much more). So, them giving this feedback is HIGH PRAISE, especially since they cook amazing (Filipino) food and are quite the critics (as expected, lol). Look--all I'm saying is, yes, some times the food might not slap as hard, and it is a gamble to spend $20 on just the pad Thai. But like any other Filipino, I'm a gambler so the pay off to me is worth it, haha. Regardless, try them once if you haven't yet. Plus, they're open till late at night and then you can get froyo from Rockies after (they relocated) !

Yelp
I love this place. My first impression was that it lives up to its name due to its small space and small menu. While the options were minimal, the flavors were not. My northern style pad thai with spice on the side was so tasty. Prior to visiting this spot, I hadn't seen different types of pad thai on a menu, so I'm happy I chose to get pad thai at this establishment. The service was fast and the person helping me was very friendly. I liked the Thai tea, as it was not overly sweet. I look forward to visiting again with friends!
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
My cousin recommended this spot for pad Thai. It's small and there's just a little window to order. There's a few seatings outside but it's ultimately a take out spot. I waited about 20 mins for my order. They were busy especially with online orders. There's 4 different styles that you can pick for the pad Thai. I wasn't sure which one to get so I got the southern style. The noodles Didn't have much color but it was really tasty. The noodles were a little over cooked for my preference. I got mild spice. There's a few different options for protein. I got the shrimp.
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
Honestly, I don't know how this place keeps in business, because I never see a line and they sell only one food type -- pad Thai. Which I thought was OK. Nothing spectacular, but their portions are sizable. The noodles will get stuck to each other, so I recommend eating fairly soon after getting your food. If in need of a quick lunch, I could see myself ordering from here again. But it's not a go-to... it's kinda just there, so it's convenient.

Morgan B.

Yelp
I can tell it is really good the flavor is there, but I get medium spice at other places and I think this is the spiciest dish I have ever ordered from a restaurant. I saw another review that they got spiciest and it's like medium at other places but that is not the experience I had today.
google avatar

Ari J.

Yelp
Dope! These guys have the formula. Do one thing and do it better everyone else. They offer Pad-Thai 4 ways by region. Traditional Bangkok style, Chiang Mai style with a hint of massaman, Chai-ya style with coconut cream or Boran (old style) with bean paste and black soy. No joke.... Better than what I ate in Thailand. Noodles have the perfect chew and it's sticky and moist (in the right way) at the same time.
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
My go-to place for some casual pad thai. The Pad Thai Stand is authentic and just very tasty for the price! They have a lot of different types you can order depending on the region of Thailand. My favorite is Chiang-Mai for peanutty taste or Bangkok. The food is good and it's spicyyy, so I usually get mild spice. In addition, the menu is very simple so it's easy to order and they have a good price. In addition, the staff/service is very nice and friendly every time I've went. For any allergies, it's best to let them know but for my boyfriend with a peanut allergy, they were able to accommodate! Will definitely come again.
google avatar

Madelina N.

Yelp
First time trying the Pad Thai Stand and was so impressed! I have never been to a place with 4 options for pad Thai style but love that they offer it here. Went for the Northern style, mild, which has a hint of curry and highly recommend! Great portion size as well. Took it to go and service was fast.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
As a certified allergy boy, I can finally say that I have tried (and loved) Pad Thai! Typically I have to stay away from these types of places due to peanut allergies, but the staff are very gracious to ensure no risk of cross contamination. The food will take longer, but it is worth it knowing they are cleaning the grills and making the most effort to be peanut-free. This little shack is small, and the majority of people coming through do take away! Sometimes the wait times can be long, so we usually order then walk around the nearby Mexican grocery store before coming back. Of the 4 options, I like the traditional bangkok style with chicken! We have gotten shrimp before too, but I think chicken is the best way to go. Its a great little spot that I treasure since it is the only place I know I can safely eat Pad Thai!
google avatar

Kathly Y.

Yelp
Pad Thai that actually tastes like pad Thai! The noodles are very well cooked and nicely flavored. They have different flavor and proteins to choose from. Their Thai iced tea is also great. Portion is a generous amount. Def recommend for pad Thai lovers!
google avatar

Calina N.

Yelp
The Pad Thai Stand is just how it sounds. It's a stand that sells Pad Thai. It is located in a neighborhood plaza with other establishments close to Mesa College. If you're craving good food that is restaurant quality and something you can take home or eat fast. This is the perfect spot. The menu is simple offering 4 different styles of pad Thai. I had no idea there were so many variations so it felt like a new experience to me even though I eat Pad Thai all the time. My boyfriend and I got the Northern and the Southern style in mild and medium spice. The northern style was more sweet compared to the southern. I liked both but because I like sweet things the Northern was my favorite out of the two. The spice level is pretty accurate. Mild had a small kick to it and medium was definitely spicier. My spice tolerance is quite low so the mild was perfect for me. Service was fast and friendly. There is some seating if you want to dine in but we took our Pad Thai home. I will say the noodles did stick to each other so it was hard to pull apart but to be fair we ate it 15 minutes after it was made so it probably got a little soggy in the box. Still delicious though! Flavors itself were authentic and fresh. Not to mention the portion was very hefty so honestly you could share an order of Pad Thai if you wanted a more light meal. Highlights: - Huge portions at a great price point - Open late
google avatar

Tom T.

Yelp
We came right at opening and the place was quiet. It is literally a hole in the side of the building where they take orders and give you take out boxes to go. Opened at 4 - e we got there at 415 and they were out of thai tea. Only other thing to drink was water. Not sure how this place got 4+ stars. All 4 of our orders came clumped in a solid mass of noodles. Super hard to break apart and they got 2 of the 4 orders wrong. Flavors were muddy and the texture of the phad thai noodles we chewy and bland. Def pass here.

Yelp
This update is for the late night timeframe only (after 9:00pm). Swung by for the late night grubs around 10:45 on a Friday (post 4th of July). Surprisingly a decent amount of customers were here for takeout at this hour. It wasn't as quick as it usually is (it's a small kitchen with a couple people working so I'm not complaining), but the quality of the pad thai did noticeably drop off a bit. Ordered the southern style with medium spice and regular add ons. Noodles, eggs, and chicken were a little overcooked which made them more on the dry end; and the flavor was a bit bland on the noodles. Service was still good and the cashier was open to hooking it up with a sample of some shrimp oil. Again, this is only reviewing the later hours which I wouldn't have had high expectations for anyways. It did the job for what I needed at that hour, but I was hoping the quality wouldn't drop off and I'd still get bomb pad thai. Day time hours are definitely still the time to go, but this business has built enough trust for me to give the late night another shot.
google avatar

Melissa O.

Yelp
OMG whaat? So bomb. I had the northern Chiang Mai one and I was a happy camper . Can't wait to go back and try the others!
google avatar

Jacob R.

Yelp
(5 out of 5 stars This is the best Pad Thai that you could eat, I've been to over 40 restaurants in my life and the pad Thai here is the best, while in a trip to San Diego I stumbled upon the pad Thai stand, their new location in PB, I met the owner Nat and he shared some of the Thai culture with me and my fiancé, we tried the northern style pad Thai, then came back the very next day to try the southern and they were both 11/10 amazing, if this place was in the Bay Area would eat it multple times a week, from food, hospitality to being in a great location, if you see this place, give it a try you WONT regret it Make sure if you go to tell them Rothyy Sent you !

Charmaine E.

Yelp
Worst Service Ever !!! Called 38 minutes ago .....only to discover that they gave our order to someone else when I get there !!! Worst Father's Day Ever , My Dad is waiting at the airport for this meal .....Now Im still waiting here almost 75 minutes !!! NEVER AGAIN!!!
google avatar

Stella Z.

Yelp
The pad Thai there is so good. Love how there are different variety to choose from. The portions are so a great size. Must get their Thai ice tea there it is so good. The service there is also great. Limited seating outside tho. It's our go to Thai takeout place when we crave pad Thai.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
You ever just wander into a little hole-in-wall food stand and experience the most delicious meal of your life? I just did.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
I didn't like the texture of the noodles, they were slimy. Good flavor, no indoor seating, water for purchase only.
google avatar

Barbara K.

Yelp
Simple menu done well. This spot was a black hole for previous places and this one has had staying power. Call it in and take it home.
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
I'm so glad we decided to order from this place bc boy oh boy the pad thai - though looks unassuming - is so so flavorful!! Very much authentic, and possibly even better than the ones in Thailand. I didn't realize there were different types of pad thai, even when I visited the various regions of Thailand (e.g. Chiang-Mai and Ayutthaya) so I was very thrilled to find those options here. Got the: - Southern (Chai-ya) because I am a sucker for crispy shallots and peanuts. This was made drier than pad thai I typically have but it was still so good. Medium spice was enough to kick mine and SO's butt, and paid an extra $2 for extra umami of dried shrimp. Generous portion and it was definitely worth the $16.50, out the door. SO and I split it and we still had some leftover after we got full. I can't wait to try the other flavors!!! Esp the massaman curry of the northern, and the unique long beans and yellow bean paste of the Old-style. Subtracted a star because the cashier girl was short in her responses and rude lol (from dec 5 2023). Seemed like she hated being there ):
google avatar

Abby W.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I love Thai food so we were intrigued when we came across this spot in Clairemont. I'm typically a pad see ew fan so I wasn't quite sure what to do at a spot that specialized specifically in pad thai though. I ended up going with a basic pad Thai with chicken and garlic and perhaps I went too basic as the noodles weren't anything special. Maybe it's because we took them to go but they were stuck together too. I think they could be better fresh but the way the restaurant is set up, there wasn't a lot of seating for dine-in.
google avatar

Robyn S.

Yelp
I ordered the northern style and although a little sweet for my taste, it was very flavorful, fresh and delicious. The noodles were cooked to perfection for me--very chewy. I ordered no egg due to allergy and I appreciated how conscientious the servers were about making sure there was no cross contamination. A+++ This place is a hidden gem. There are four or 5 small outdoor tables under a covered patio. Very intimate space (not in a romantic way but in the kind of way that no matter where you sit, you might make a new friend). Looking forward to trying the southern style next time!
google avatar

Alexie S.

Yelp
So yummy, tasted authentically made with lots of flavor. Only thing is wish they had sprite for a drink, they only have tea and water.
google avatar

Rohith V.

Yelp
As advertised this place is indeed a stand. There's a couple of small outdoor tables and chairs in case you wanted to enjoy your food there. I like the style of their menu and I like that they have one dedicated dish that they make well. You have your choice of protein (tofu available for vegetarians) and then you select that flavor profile based on Thai geography. I went with the southern because I wanted something more coconutty. You can then select your spice level. While pad Thai is a sweeter noodle in general the medium spice I selected was still pretty spicy so be warned! They also have another non-fish based sauce you can select if dietary restrictions for an extra charge of $2. At $17 a pop price point is a bit higher than I expected esp after coming here a few years ago and I remember it being closer to $13-14 but inflation I guess ‍. It does come with quite a generous portion as you can see in the pics and for me lasted about 1.5 servings as someone who generally eats a decent amount.
google avatar

Dolores D.

Yelp
Authentic and extremely delish! Their menu describes the Northern, Southern, Central and Boran flavors to choose from, along with other add-ons and ingredients. We love all the regional flavors. It is best to enjoy your pad thai in one sitting, if possible. The refrigerated leftovers may be clumpy and not as flavorful. As a suggestion, sprinkle water without making it soupy, and microwave, followed by a squeeze of lime to enjoy your leftovers. Their spot is on the corner of Ashford St and Beagle, facing Ashford. This is now our go-to, legit and modest pad thai place.
google avatar

Bruno A.

Yelp
I ordered the old style chicken with medium level spice. Super super tasty, great quality pad Thai... and the place itself is super cute and has a nice atmosphere with the outdoor fire. Above all, the service was amazing. The gentleman at the front was very informative about everything on the menu, he explained each menu item eloquently and gave helpful tips about eating it. Overall super friendly and a great experience. Super pleased with this place.
google avatar

Grace N.

Yelp
Was the pad thai delicious? Yes. However, I do think $15 is a high price point for take out pad thai. The noodles were also clumpy, even though I ate it in my car right after ordering. Service was also not the greatest, but I prefer to focus my reviews on the food not the service. The flavor was good and I liked the peanut/garlic flavor. I might come back depending on if I'm in the area and if I'm willing to pay the price.
google avatar

Hiral S.

Yelp
My husband and myself love Thai food so was excited to try this place for lunch when we were in the area. This is clearly more of a to go place as the seating was very ok there. I ordered the basic noodles with veggies and tofu and with the vegan sauce. The flavors were good but there were not too much tofu and or veggies and the noodles were sticky when we opened the to go at home. Also I do spicy and the medium was crazy hot - I wish I was given the heads up while ordering. Would I return ? Probably not.
google avatar

Sam F.

Yelp
OMG! I more of a 3 or 4 star reviewer so take this to heart! Ambiance sucks if you are expecting a restaurant but if you are expecting a Thai shack out of another country you will be wowed! Even so, the service and actual product surpass any expectations so dive in! Ask questions...or not...the person working the cash register was there to help anyway as if he worked in a Michelin restaurant or offered Omikase. The portions are huge. When you ask for spicy they fully deliver. Worth a detour. The only true negative is they don't have more locations!
google avatar

Chanel Y.

Yelp
I had driven by here a dozen times and I figured it was finally time to try it! There are a few different pad Thai styles to choose from, and you have different protein options as well. I opted for the northern style pad Thai with chicken and it was sooooooo good!!! Definitely recommend it! I can't wait to come back and taste the other styles!
google avatar

Christopher A.

Yelp
Placed order on Grubhub and wanted to try the different styles of pad Thai . I got the old style (botanical with shrimp and had really good flavor . I feel the portion was really small. My only real issue was that the noodles were all clumped together . Other than that I would have to try it one more time

Yelp
We've come here twice now; a little hole in the wall in the Carnival shopping center, in front of the barber shop. The guy behind the counter was so kind and helpful both times; giving specifics on the different types of pad Thai to choose from. The food was super delicious & the seating area is simple. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Ordered Chicken Pad Thai Central (traditional) Original sauce mild. It's ok, i wouldn't order again. I wouldn't order again. It's on the drier side. The noodles stick together and the flavor is too sweet and tangy. Service was fine the space was ok.

Yelp
Tasty! I've tried 3 out of the (now 5) options, and they have all been great! I've only dined in after reading reviews about takeout - noodles solidifying. Good portion sizes and consistent, and each dish is customizable. There could be more tofu in the dish - protein options: chicken, tofu, vegetables, shrimp. The space is mainly a covered limited seating outdoor dining area. It's a kitchen with a window to order, pretty much like a food truck. Open late. They were busy, with a steady stream takeout orders on a Friday evening/dinner.

Yelp
Not gonna lie, I'm a bit disappointed by the service lately. I used to live just down the street from this place and to this day I've been coming here at least once a month for years. My boyfriend and I get the same thing every time, and it's our favorite place to get pad thai. During my most recent visit, it took over 40 minutes for our order when the server said it would take only 15. The server forgot to call out our name, and we were the only customers sitting at the tables. I was annoyed that he didn't even apologize for the delay or forgetting to call us that it was ready... but then I was really frustrated to see that our order was wrong. We ordered chicken AND tofu with our pad thai and only got chicken. It was extremely upsetting. Don't get me wrong, The Pad Thai Stand has amazing food and this review isn't about that. I just need them to be more diligent with their customer service.

Yelp
We ordered on the phone for pick up. Our favorites were the northern and southern styles. Staff was friendly on the phone and answered our questions about the menu. Pick up was quick and smooth! Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
On my way to another place this little food stand caught my eye. Apparently I'm a sucker for Thai cuisine and food stands. Although pad Thai is not usually my first choice that is the only thing on the menu at this establishment. You simply customize it with protein, flavor, sauce and toppings. For drinks your choice is water or Thai iced tea. I really love the simplicity here as I don't like to think too much when I'm hangry. The seating area is like the back patio of your shady uncle's old apartment complex and is supposedly under renovation. I do imagine they'll be making improvements here as the business continues to flourish. For now most people probably order ahead and take out, but that wasn't an option for me and I wanted to soak in the vibes. The guy in the kitchen mentioned several times that they were putting love into the food which is very cute even if love is a social construct. And so it is a love/noodle vibe. As for the food itself I will agree with some other reviews that the noodles are a bit chewy. This really only bothered me for about 1.5 seconds at which point the seductive flavor began pouring out. I found it invigorating to be part of this transaction with the food where I just chew and it gives me these gorgeous impressions of coconut. Just chewing, tasting and slurping a bit while everything else falls by the wayside; as the sun on the horizon or a rock into water, inevitably disappearing so you can hone your attention, zone in and simply savor a mouthful of lovely noodles.

Yelp
Our go-to spot when we are craving pad thai! They specialize in different flavors of pad Thai from different regions in Thailand. Each style is very flavorful. Service is very kind every time we pick up. Ambiance lives up to the name- you walk up to the window and order your food. There is a small amount of patio seating, but we usually just do take-out here. Don't forget their Thai tea! I love that they have a dairy-free option with coconut cream, it tastes delicious.

Yelp
This place tastes like the third best Thai food place in Cleveland. If you live in San Diego, go explore what else the city has to offer.

Yelp
The menu on the website is a little off since it probably has not been updated for a while. You're looking at about $15-$20, depending on if you get the add ons and what the protein it. Overall, I love it. In my opinion, I felt that the pad thai was pretty authentic. Only complaint there, would just be that the bean sprouts were a little raw for my liking and that the box tray was open in the bag when they handed it over. When I got home to open it, the food was also stuck in this block shape, I had to really get in there to mix it. The owner is super nice. He was talking to the customers that were dining outdoors. He came to hit us up with the "your order is being made with love." There was, however, kind of a crazy lady that worked there, she hysterically screamed a couple of times while we were waiting.
