"A Wicker Park restaurant that’s remained closed since Sunday, November 26 — after a mechanical fire erupted on the roof — is set to reopen. Flames broke out during dinner service at the Perch nine days ago. No one was hurt. The restaurant’s owners at 4 Star Restaurant Group — they also own the Smoke Daddy down the street, and spots like Crosby’s Kitchen in Lakeview — have announced the Perch will reopen at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6. Ownership, in a statement to Eater Chicago, says the fire damaged the hood system and the roof — they’ve been working nonstop to reopen. They praised the staff and manager Sean Cusick for his leadership in evacuating the space last week. “Our team at the Perch did a great job taking all steps to escort every guest and team member out of the building safely in a timely manner,” the statement also reads. “We are thankful for the local fire department for the quick response, we avoided major damage because of their response time.” As a sign of appreciation for the quick response of the Chicago Fire Department, they’re donating proceeds from beer sales to the two stations that helped mitigate the damage. The Perch debuted in 2020 as a collaboration between 4 Star and Finch Beer Co. The brewpub is known for its wood-fired items." - Ashok Selvam
"A whitewashed façade and verdant planters welcome diners to this warm and intimate dining room. In contrast, the interior feels more industrial, by way of large steel vats of beer, for which this bijou is clearly beloved. Other furnishings include a long, welcoming bar lined with green tiles and an array of seats. This is cooking that's certainly both excellent and exciting. Taste the splendor behind the top-shelf ingredients in a seared tuna salad with crunchy greens, sweet mango and soft avocado. Share a plate of potato-bacon croquettes to begin, then tuck into a grilled NY strip accompanied by an arugula salad. There are more than a handful of beers on draft, and tastings ensure decision making is a cinch. Don't miss a slice of their banana cream pie." - Michelin Inspector
"Most recently, 4 Star opened The Perch Kitchen & Tap in Wicker Park." - Naomi Waxman
"There’s plenty of room to enjoy the weather in the Perch’s ivy-covered beer garden or on the dog-friendly patio, where your best friend can enjoy a pupsicle or puppy power protein bowl. Get a taste of the brewery’s novel beers like Inari Japanese-style lager brewed with jasmine rice and Queen of Funk kiwi kettle sour ale, or sip an equally refreshing cocktail like the Atticus (Koval cranberry gin, bergamot, lime, hibiscus syrup, and housemade seltzer)." - Samantha Nelson
"A collaboration between the owners of 4 Star Restaurant Group (the Smoke Daddy) and Finch Beer Co., this is Wicker Park’s second brewpub. There are two outdoor areas: The front sidewalk patio, and the garden to the east of the building. The space just opened and the offerings will change up. Reservations via Tock." - Ashok Selvam
