On the Grid : Hermitage Cafe

"Hermitage Cafe is the OG of Nashville diners. Prepare to run into the modern hipster, businessman, woo-girl, and lonely cowboy. Sit down at the counter and feast on the classics prepared right in front of you. Known to fix Southern eats, the chicken fried steak is a must. The breakfast kills and the staff gets to know you with their uncanny sense of humor." - ST8MNT

"Michelin-starred restaurateur Jean-Georges Vongerichten opened his dainty, morning-to-night cafe, The Pink Hermit by Jean-Georges, a casual counterpart to his Drusie & Darr, the Hermitage hotel’s months-old flagship restaurant. The versatile cafe, open weekdays to start from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (231 6th Ave N., Nashville), brings downtown grab-and-go coffees, pastries, and takeout-friendly sandwiches and salads, as well as a sit-down dinner menu designed for pre-and post-theater meet-ups bar snacks, French wines by the glass, and cocktails like a raspberry lychee bellini and a Plymouth gin cucumber martini." - Eater Staff

The Hermitage Hotel Unveils New Look and Details About Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s New Nashville Restaurants - Eater Nashville

"The Pink Hermit is set to open in late fall on the corner of Union and Sixth Avenue, a chic cafe and take-out focused spot. The name comes from the definition of hermitage as 'a secluded retreat' and the intimate space, designed by Thomas Juul-Hansen, comes clad in pale pink and gray marble with plenty of cozy seating inside and out. The cafe will evolve throughout the day, from coffee bar with pastries aplenty to to-go lunchtime — and later, a wine bar serving small bites, champagne, and craft cocktails prime for pre-and post- theater meet-ups." - Delia Jo Ramsey

I visited this cafe and both times I enjoyed my experience. First time I only had coffee and it was great. Second visit, I had a strawberry ricotta bruschetta and it was absolutely delicious. They have a variety of freshly baked goods at the counter as well. All the employees have been very friendly. It’s connected to the hotel so I’m not sure what parking options are.

The Pink Hermit is one of our favorite spots to eat dinner before seeing shows at TPAC as it is walking distance from the theater! The food and cocktails are great! The staff have always been super friendly. If going before a show, I suggest getting to The Pink Hermit early as it gets busy on show nights, but we enjoy our experience every time!

I had a great experience the first time, second time around aka today not so much… the atmosphere is great but once I sat down, a server immediately dropped a glass cup near me, one of the glass remains hitting my foot, thankfully I was not hurt, but that was a very close call… as common curtesy, most high class places like this cafe is trying to be will cover your bill or at least offer some form of compensation for your unpleasant experience, but no, nothing, in fact, I was baffled to be charged almost $8 for a matcha latte that looks like it was made by an extreme amateur, not a barista. Also the mug was chipped… It was also served to me piping hot. How is your coffee around $4 but your matcha almost $8? & PLEASE, train your cafe staff better.

Beautiful place with a lovely almond latte made by Brady with my husband having the best pain au chocolat since moving back home from France! Came back in the afternoon to have the recommended and refreshing grapefruit spritz served by Panan. Enjoyed it in the shaded patio.

We stopped in for something small at The Pink Hermit, which is a classy little cafe with a well appointed yet subtlety classic glam aesthetic. To me, it gives off a vibe of classic Hollywood, complete with pink plates, pink glasses and pink touches throughout. The lattes we got were delicious and well prepared, the small breakfast was perfect and the staff was pleasant and helpful. We left feeling like we had discovered a gem and would definitely repeat.

This place was SO CUTE! It was all an adorably pink experience. I loved my espresso martini, along with everything else about this place.

When all other coffee shops were close late afternoon on the 4th of July, they were open! I had a simple flat-white with oat milk which was crafted to perfection. Also, they didn’t charge the “oat milk tax”. They casually engaged with me in a conversation while prepping everything - super friendly and welcoming team!! Very reasonable price and excellent coffee! Highly recommend!!!

Google
Beautiful pink coffee shop with friendly service. The perfect addition to the Hermitage! Delicious peppermint latte. Love that they had a toy drive bin for the holidays. Got in before the rush of people about to see the Nutcracker at TPAC across the street. So, convenient location if seeing a show! Definitely will be back for breakfast or a sweet treat! The pastries looked amazing.

Yelp
The entire experience at the Pink Hermit was lovely. Food was great. Service was outstanding. The restaurant was spotlessly clean. All of the details were paid attention to. The cup served with my tea had been warmed. The pizza was very good, fresh and crisp. They were kind enough to take a photo of us at the table. The decor was very sweet. Overall, I would highly recommend.

Yelp
We are from Madison Alabama, came for Chicago & Earth, Wind & Fire concert last evening. Located inside the HERMITAGE HOTEL in DT BNA! Step to the right to enter. We found limited service but very cute decore. The menu is very very small but the breakfast sandwich we had, had bacon on it and was extremely Tasty. I parked across the street for $16 for two hours. After eating breakfast we walked around the first floor of the hotel. just lovely There was a main dining room a few rooms west of the pink hermit in the hotel. I would like to dine there. Very fashionable hotel.

Yelp
Came here while waiting for my number to be called at the DMV. The decor was cute and service was quick and attentive. Ordered one savory pastry and one sweet pastry. Although they were both tasty, they weren't worth a price tag of $8.00 each before tax. Next time I'll skip their pastries in search of a better value.

Yelp
This was a very cute cafe for a lunch meeting for work. The service was fantastic and the ambience and atmosphere were so chic. The food was good, however I wish the menu was more expansive. Overall a 4/5 was perfect for this cute spot.

Yelp
Our party of 7 stepped into this delightful café for lunch. The smiling staff accommodated us by showing us to 3 open tables. They took our orders and served our plates in short order. Everyone said their meal was delicious; I can vouch for the tomato, mozzarella, and basil pizza. If we had not had afternoon appointments, I could have been tempted by the dessert case and an espresso. Next time!

Yelp
Walked in as a party of 7, the hosted looked at us and didn't say anything. She was very judgmental, we told her there will be 7 and she said there was no way to accommodate us. They had an empty place... only one other table (of 6-7 people) Will not be back.

Yelp
For breakfast, the coffee and muffins were delicious! I had the blueberry matcha, but they change seasonally, and I don't think you can really go wrong here. Lunch was tasty too, but really, the chefs don't miss at this place. Enjoy.

Yelp
The Pink Hermit is an elegant cafe in the corner of the Hermitage Hotel. More a breakfast cafe but they also recently opened for dinner as well. We stopped in for coffee and a dessert for a midday snack. The S'mores brownie was delicious. The brownie itself was actually flipped upside down and frosted on the bottom creating a crust like taste on the bottom. The coffee was great. I just did the fresh brewed coffee black. Mostly pink decor. Very aesthetically pleasing and well designed. Also love the logo!

Yelp
Great coffee and pastries! Kinda expensive but cute vibes. Looks like a very nice hotel and offers cocktails as well.

Yelp
Perfect place for a morning coffee or afternoon tea. The decor is quirky and eclectic, featuring pink hues and vintage furniture that create a unique and inviting ambiance. The menu is filled with delicious and healthy options, including vegan and gluten-free treats, all of which are made with fresh and locally sourced ingredients. The staff is friendly and attentive, providing excellent service and recommendations.

Yelp
Food is delicious, views and service is on top ! Definitely recommend we were in Pink Hermit couple days ago and we really enjoyed it !!

Yelp
Inside the hermitage hotel is a lovely secret shell, the pink hermit cafe. Boujee cocktails, a lovely tapa menu, brunch delights and of course, coffee. I say boujee because the prices match as much as the pink decor does. Treat yourself though, you are worthy baby.

Yelp
Weak weak coffee latte and expensive. I ordered two small lattes and two small pastries and it was $27. That's ridiculous. Starbucks, which I loath, is a better option to this place

Yelp
We loved the ambiance and the adorable pink decor. We tried several of their baked goods and their lattes and chais and all were excellent.

Yelp
I'm drawn to anything pink and this place was no exception. It was empty and very clean when I walked in with fun foreign music playing. I was promptly greeted by a friendly barista who informed me they have a little paper menu but at this time they were just serving coffee and what was in the displays. I had a tasty iced salted caramel coffee and a delicious caramel brownie which were the perfect treat on a hot Nashville day. This place has an excellent vibe, definitely somewhere you could take a friend to chat or even get some work done!

Yelp
We had a pleasant experience there overall the food is very good. Could have more selection on the menu especially for kids. And refills on water would have been nice. But overall a good experience.

Yelp
I'm in love with interior design redos and cities that keep nostalgia yet progress with society and the economy. The Pink Hermit keeps Nashville interesting not just for visitors but also for locals. A cute place that gives nod to trends in design but doesn't go all the way like it could. It stays on par with a man's man's place by offering minimal options in coffee and lattes. Of course, I like my cup of joe black and sugar makes it fancy. This and the fact that they offer house made cocktails shows where there heart truly is - not yin, not feminine, not truly honoring the women of the city. More protecting them ? Anywho, the whiskey and cigar man in charge keeps this place honoring the side of keeping something alive instead of whimsically nostalgic. I am happy this place is here! I love historical places that put in efforts for a new crowd while appeasing loyal patrons. Positively! My real pink palace cafe is coming soon!

Yelp
This place is actually so cute! I went here for lunch and we were afraid that the place would close. Unlike its hours listed on websites, the cafe is open throughout the day. The coffee is good and the lunch is pretty good. Pizza is basic, but not bad, and the bruschetta is simple and tasty. Coming here was mainly for the atmosphere, and that was very worth. Super pink, come here with your girl friends!

Yelp
So good & cute!!! Fun with a bunch of girls! Sweetest waitress - Kelsey! Great find & ambiance!

Yelp
Cute little cafe not far from Downtown. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's a step up from grab and go-- for lunch at least. I'd be interested to see what they do for dinner or if it's any different. I ordered a sandwich and was pointed to the case in which they keep the pre-made sandwiches. For drinks, they only serve them during dinner it appears but they have 3 pre-made bottled drinks to either take with you or enjoy in the cafe-- the bartender/barista poured it into a glass and gave me a plate for my sandwich as well. Both sandwich (Proscuitto and mozzarella-- very fresh) and drink (lychee raspberry bellini) were good. Would return- a cute spot to pop in before or after a shopping trip to feel like you're almost in a little Parisian-type cafe. They have indoor and outdoor seating but I opted for indoor as it was 92 degrees outside and the inside is more aesthetic.

Yelp
Good pastries and decent coffee. A little on the pricey side. A small bottled water was over $5 for example

Julie K.

Yelp
This small cafe is in the first floor storefront of a hotel. Off the beaten path, it is exquisitely decorated in pink theme. We ordered a shared great flatbread pizza with egg on it along with a small arugula salad with fennel. While the food and ambiance were wonderful, service took longer than it should have as there were only three other people seated. I also ordered an additional item that never made it to the table. For the price point service and portions could have been better but the food we did have was good.

Yelp
This week I had the pleasure of going to the Pink Hermit! I had high hopes considering how much I love Drusie and Darr stairs. Pink Hermit blew away all of my expectations. I had the pleasure of meeting Kyrie and Brady through out my experience and they made me feel at home. On top of their great service they also gave me fantastic food and drink recommendations. I ended up drinking my first Paper Plane and Kyrie even had a fun fact about the name for me. I ended up getting baked olives, mushroom bruschetta and then a truffle pizza to top it all off. I will for sure be back even if it's just for coffee and to say to the great staff. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
First visit to this new coffee shop inside The Hermitage. My iced vanilla bean latte was perfect. Syrups are made in house. Limited selection of flavors but quality taste. Drink was not overly sweet (like I asked). Cute interior with quality drinks.

Yelp
The Pink Hermit is a lovely addition to The Hermitage Hotel. Perfect for coffee and a pastry, a quick lunch or a pre-show snack!

Yelp
Cool little retro coffee shop, the barista was great. Check out the old school bathrooms and transport yourself to the Overlook in the Shining.

Yelp
Very tasty, great service, and a good hot tea selection. There doesn't seem to be a set daily menu that I can tell - they make sandwiches and salads fresh daily for grab and go. The picture of the Caprese sandwich made my mouth water, but it wasn't available so I had a strawberry salad with a lemon vinaigrette, very delicious and filling. I also sampled the Japanese Sencha tea, and a raspberry thumbprint cookie that melts in your mouth. I will say it is perhaps indulgent, so I will not make it a regular stop, but definitely a repeat!

Sheren V.

Yelp
Service was immaculate! The food was not bad! One of the best sourdough breads, I've had. Wish they had coffee syrups for my cappuccino but coffee was overall amazing!

Yelp
I walk past The Hermitage on the way to my office each day, so I was excited to see The Pink Hermit being built and was eager to try it. They don't have an official coffee menu yet, but I wasn't too worried since I stick to a simple black Americano most days, however I also grabbed a chia pudding which filled a 16oz plastic cup about halfway. I anticipated a premium for a hotel coffee bar but was shocked to see my total was over $21 for what I would consider a light morning snack. At the end of the day it tasted pretty good, and the decor and atmosphere were cute, but I don't think I would go back when there are so many other high quality coffee shops downtown that would charge half as much. It was good, but not worth what they charge.
