NEW in the Memorial/Spring Branch area! Great BBQ joint with a Texas culture vibe and a delicious smoky aroma that hits you immediately upon entering through the doors. This is a walk-up order style restaurant. The menu is very simple, laid out well, and easy to navigate toward a decision. They also serve breakfast tacos! 7 days a week, grab and go from 7:00 AM-10:30 AM! I can't wait to try them! But for this review today, I had the chopped brisket sandwich with coleslaw. The line service was friendly and quick. We were able to find a table in the almost packed dining room. This place is going to be a hit for all the local businesses nearby, so go early or wait til later in the day for the crowds to die down.
My brisket was nicely placed on a warm buttered bun with pieces falling off the edges. The coleslaw helping overflowed the boat dish. The serving sizes are large. The condiment bar was full of fresh homemade pickled items, along with onions and hot sauce. I wasn't sure about the cucumber pickles but turns out I love them! Very crisp and just the right heat for a topping to my sandwich. The drink bar has fountain sodas, sweet tea, non-sweet tea, and lemonade. The seating is comfortable with booth and chair options. My brisket sandwich was delicious. Very tender and flavorful. The coleslaw was crisp and tasty. You can tell it's homemade. It is not loaded with mayonnaise. It is more of a crunchy and tart slaw. Refreshing during these hot days.
The space is much larger than it looks from the outside. They have a decent size bar with draft beers, liquor, and TVs. At the back of the restaurant there is a small dessert counter with pastries and ice cream for purchase. They also have a tiny retail section for TPR merch. On the east side of the building, they added a fun patio with large fans and a bar area, also with TVs. This will be a great space when the weather cools down. I think I saw a cornhole board on the outside patio. Very fun!
I did not see the bill total. My boss treated all of us to lunch. From what I could see on the menu board, the prices were very reasonable. My one meat sandwich was $13 and my coleslaw was $5. Most everything on the menu is al la carte. Dinner plates (dinner as in entree, not time of day - you can order a dinner plate at lunch time) include two sides and a piece of white bread starting at $20 for one meat, $23 for two meats, and $26 for three meats. That is a great deal!
I can't review this place without also mentioning the music. Great country tunes overhead taking you back to the good ol' days of country & western music. While there, we heard The Judds, Conway Twitty, Mel McDaniel, Rodney Adkins, and other great artists. The music was at a perfect level. Loud enough to hear it, but also low enough to be able to talk in a group at our table.
I am a noise sensitive person. I will not go back to a restaurant if the noise it too heavy. My biggest pet peeve is when the noise comes from metal/heavy chairs scratching the floor, unnecessary clanging of dishes (TPR uses small metal trays with a liner), and music being too loud. TPR didn't have any of this, so my lunch was very enjoyable! What can I say, I am a very particular person and especially particular when it comes to my dining preferences. I was very pleased.
Plenty of parking available in the lot. I think the entire mini-strip is being redone, so it might start to get crowded for parking. For us today, it was easy to find a spot and only a short walk into the restaurant.
So, if you are craving BBQ, want to try a new place, and have a full belly when leaving, look no further. This is the place! Texans love their BBQ and this place won't disappoint! Welcome to the neighborhood, Y'all!
