Yelp
As a group of six first-time diners at the Port of Peri Peri, the experience was quite pleasant for all of us. The warm lighting and vibrant signs alongside the two families already dining when we first walked in caught our eye and created a cozy atmosphere for us to settle in. The cashier who took our orders was kind, especially the boss who suggested what foods to choose from the menu, more on this later.
Let's talk about the food. We ordered 4 different items: Chicken Tenders (4 pieces, mild & medium spice level), Half Chicken (medium spice level), Chicken Burger, and The Wrap, with fries and corn as the sides. Each meal was impactful with flavor but five out of six agreed that the chicken was a little dry. The chicken was dryer than what we expected from a store that had chicken as its signature dish but nonetheless had a nice flavor.
In correspondence to the meal, we thought that the cost was overpriced. The sides cost around $4 each and our meals cost around $18 each, not including drinks which you must pay additional to get. The total cost of the meal for all 6 was around $128. Although the spice was not a big problem for us, the lack of any free drinks, not even water, was a big drawback in our experience. There was no soda machine and each of the canned sodas cost around $3, further adding to our complaint about the store being overpriced.
Returning to the service, it was exceptional. The boss was very encouraging and insightful when taking our orders, especially when suggesting the menu. One key behavior that stood out was that they were not shy to questions when we asked about the store, proving their friendliness. In addition, the wait time was around 15 minutes, which we thought was reasonable for all 6 meals to be put on the table. So, they were quick in serving.
Finally, the main question: Would we return? Despite the excellent service and flavorful meals, the majority of our group of six voted that we would not return to the shop. Our decision was mainly based on the price because our experience did not meet our expectations based on them. We thought that $20 for a meal was unreasonable when we could get juicier chicken at a cheaper price and get the sauce from home. If the meal prices were lowered and provided combo meals, all of our group members would heavily consider revisiting this restaurant.
Although we voted on not going back, the food was unique, and we think that people should visit this store at least once if they possess the wallet for it.
