"This Chicago-style dive in Midtown opened in 2002 and has an affinity for... bones. A hole in the floor functions as a peephole into the basement that guards some skeletal remains. After ordering your beer or a Red’s Whacker, take a gander at the flying skeletons around the joint and order up some brats, burgers, wings, or po’ boys when you start feeling peckish. Red Door has another location in East Nashville." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones, Eater Staff

Yelp
Got in from a really late flight last night & most places near our hotel were closed but we were able to find this spot for some snacks before bed. The food on the late night menu was really fast and good and the bartender was really nice. One thing to keep in mind is that they don't open tabs / keep them open!

Chris L.

Yelp
Not a big review for this place as i could only tolerate an hour or so of it. The good - they were showing sports games on tv and had decent music. The bad - the drinks were not good at all. Cant even begin to stare how bad they were. Maybe if youre drunk and lose the ability to taste would they be decent. Also, was charged a few dollars more on my card than what the receipt said apparently. So just curious if this a common practice from this place? Yeah not cool

Amy R.

Yelp
Our food was okay, typical bar food. They also have pizza and a variety of dawgs! Our friends were served a cold hot dog and had to send it back. Fried pickle spears were crisp and had good flavor. The server was not too friendly he didn't smile once. You order at the bar and they bring the order to your table. They have a good root beer shot that's actually a full drink and tasty . They don't get any points for service but the food is good enough for a football Sunday.

Yelp
Red Door Saloon was pretty cool. We went there after happy hour and dinner the other night. It was a nice vibe; the bartenders were on point with the drinks, and they were consistent. When I go back to Nashville, I will visit again

Yelp
The Red Door Saloon is a cool.bar that does its best to capture that dive bar feel. The bartenders were friendly and the place had a cool enough vibe going for it. The drinks were cold and those friendly bartenders made sure they stayed full. Nashville is a cool city with a party vibe and the Red Door Saloon fits in nicely. I would definitely recommend the Red Door Saloon.

Yelp
Would consider this a great "dive bar". Some people will take that wrong, "IYKYK" ! Awesome find. Great drinks and FULL food MENU TILL 2 A.M.

Stan S.

Yelp
Really good service. Friendly bartenders. And excellent chicken wings. I recommend the gringo wings with no sauce. Prepared perfectly. And don't forget to order the fries.

Iris C.

Yelp
My friend and I tried going here and were immediately demanded to leave by security. Not sure what the issue was but we were taken back by the hostile language.

Deanna S.

Yelp
We were sent to this spot from a recommendation from another place we attempted to eat at but they were closed! She bragged about the food! We were not sure if it was a club with a kitchen or what when we walked up. We were greeted by security checking id cards and bags. Once inside we ordered food from the bar and then took a seat while waiting for delivery. The food was great! Drinks were good and it was busy but not packed on a Monday night. Nice variety of people drinking, eating and some watching sports! The building was lit partially with red lights so the name is fitting

Joshua L.

Yelp
If you come here with the completely legal paper Tennessee state ID that they give you before they send you the plastic ID, they will not let you in. Just be warned

Kaley S.

Yelp
My favorite bar in Nashville. Friendly bartenders and amazing prices. The snacks are good too!

Miatsu K.

Yelp
I met a girl on Tinder and she wanted to meet my girlfriend and I. We met at this bar as a first date. It was sort of clear as soon as I walked in that this was a "locals" bar. We were inside for two hours and not a single time did a server ask if they could help us. We went to the bar and waited ten minutes at a time to place an order. We ordered two separate baskets of pretzel bites. One came out and we had to go ask where the second one was. They said they misread the order and brought the second one out ten minutes later. There was no place to sit and the back room where the shuffle board is was entirely too cold to stay in. Each time we went out on the porch, we got carded to get back in. By five times, being carded by the same guy gets old. At least the date went really well.

Yelp
Good beer and good service. Fun spot that is open late even during the week. I liked it.

Yelp
I don't care what anyone says, this is probably my favorite "dive" in Nashville. When I was in town back in April, we came here every single day. I happily came back during my work trip this week. The whole mood of this place is laid back and inviting. There's no pressure. No judgment. No drama. Just come for a drink and a good time. The bartenders are always nice and they are quick to give you what you need. The prices are super reasonable and it's such an easy place to hang out. The $10 credit card minimum for a tab is no problem because you have no reason to only stay for one drink. Common sense, right?

Chrissy A.

Yelp
This place is a dive bar for sure. There was that bar smell, stuff all over the walls and a passed out guy all around 2pm. Drinks are strong and not a bad price. We came bc we thought they had food but they said they didn't have a kitchen yet.

Agnew D.

Yelp
Yes, I am from Nashvile and No, I literally have never been here before this visit & YES, I will return... I actually just found this place because I was looking for a bar where you could smoke and they offered it. It was outside but covered and the weather was beautiful. I needed a break for a few minutes from life and this was the perfect spot. Not only were the drinks (LIT) I ordered superb but the music was smooth, it really lifted my mood. However, the people and the atmosphere was the best. I met the greatest group of guys, none local, and had a grand time. That one hour away made my day.

Nicholas C.

Yelp
I was asked to place my bulky items by the front door , The food arrived cold, and they overcharged me for what little food I ordered. 30 dollars for the a beer and the little basket of chicken fingers & tater tots. None of the staff wanted to be working & some wanted to just go home.

Mark M.

Yelp
Came when our ARBNB wasn't ready with full luggage and had great lunch. Came on Saturday night and weren't allowed in because we had a tshirt and few items we bought on broadway. Security refused to even bring manager. Just lost out on 9 customers!!

Yelp
First off, I can not give a place a 5 Star review if I have not eaten there. This review is therefore a 4/4. My wife was searching Nashville bars on Tik Tok and for some reason Red Door Saloon showed up. It is located in a good area in Midtown surrounded by other bars/restaurants and hotels. There is some street parking and three parking spots at the actual building. From the outside, the bar does not look very welcoming. Admittedly, it may be different during the summer, but we had trouble finding the actual entrance because there are three or four ramps that lead to doors. The curb appeal is lacking but once inside you do not really care. There is an outdoor food truck that serves Po' Boys and other food items that I assume is open during the summer and looks like it would be a cool thing to try out. Once inside, we found a very large space that seems to be designed to accommodate a lot people. By reading other Yelp reviews, I believe this bar gets a good night crowd. We went on a weekday around Noon. Inside, the decor is a mixture of Chicago items and skeletons. The owner is from Chicago so that makes sense. I am not sure what the skeleton part is, but it wasnt a problem. The bathrooms were clean and there is plenty of seating by the garage doors that look out on to 19th Street and are a nice feature when they are opened. Paula was our bartender and she was prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. In between orders, she could be seen wiping down the menus and running a vacuum along some ledges in the bar. It is okay to be a dive bar. It is not okay to be a dive bar that is dirty. Red Door Saloon is definitely clean! Our draft beer and bottled beer was cold and she was able to recommend some local favorites from Tailgate Brewery which has a location nearby. I would like to come back and check out the night life sometime and try the food. The more and more we go to Nashville, the more we stay away from Lower Broadway and this bar is a gem in Midtown that we will certainly return to.

Yelp
Very cool local bar. Walking distance from a few other bars including Winners & Losers - no live music here, but lots of friendly people with good energy. I sat at the bar and was not drinking - the bartender was very friendly and did not mind just serving me water. The place was large and seems like it's decorated for Halloween year round with all of the eerie skeletal decor highlighted by red tinted lights. In the back their are a few small holes in the floor, be sure to pick down under for a spooky underground skeletal scene. Super unique & cool

Yanike M.

Yelp
Great late night food and bar into the AM! Good people and bar tenders/kitchen is fast.

Nash O.

Yelp
Red door was my go-to spot to take co-writers... so happy hours... friends in town... have casual meetings... and get the last drinks of nights out. For the last 16 YEARS. I had my friend fly in to visit nashville and celebrate her birthday. I brought 9 people in and posted up giving Red Door our business for hours. My friend goes to the bathroom, the women's is full. Some men walking out of the bathroom suggested she use the men's room and they'd make sure no one came in. She took them up on the idea and as soon as she stepped in the bathroom she's being escorted out of the bar. I know nashville isn't ALL on the mature thinking of "we're all adults here" but a lot of the places are. So this was shocking in general, but them booting her out of the car and losing our 9 person crew, without simply having a conversation of "we don't allow that. Sorry"? She was dumbfounded and was of course very willing to NOT use the men's once finding out it was "forbidden". This is the behavior that keeps nashville just a little too far behind to truly compete, and when visitors come in... at least try an adult conversation first. Won't be going back unless they invent some type of solution/apology etc.

Yelp
The back bartender was incredibly rude as soon as we sat down. I knew that there had been gunshots reported here before, but I didn't expect the horrible service I received. She had dark hair and attempted to tip herself. She was clearly not trained and had a vendetta against people ordering. She had clearly never experienced a busy bar. With so many problems already existing at this bar, a terrible bartender trying to steal my money makes this a place I will never return to.

Laquita C.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere We went on a Friday around noon. They also had live music.

Susan H.

Yelp
Late review but can't say enough about this hidden gem!! We had an amazing time and met some really nice people! John was our bartender and he is amazing at what he does! Very friendly and fun! He was busy but still took great care of us! Definitely recommend that come here! Drinks are really good!!

Mattie M.

Yelp
Shit service. Asshole bartenders. Slow service. Why would I ever come back. Robbie was cool but he can only do so much.

Priya K.

Yelp
We stopped in on a Friday afternoon and the place was maybe half full. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were very friendly. The drinks were strong and on the cheaper side for the area. Bathrooms were clean. Really all you want in a dive bar.

Jill P.

Yelp
DO NOT USE A CREDIT CARD....My husband bought a round of drinks, which came up to appx $110. We don't add tips to credit cards, as we always leave cash tips. He was given one receipt to sign - which he DID give back to the waitress and one for his copy to keep (which at bottom said "closed ticket". The signed copy must mysteriously disappeared, because they took it upon themselves to not finish the check out and at the end of the night added a 20% tip because they didn't have record of us closing out. The waitress even asked if we wanted an open tab and we clearly advised NO. While trading messages with the manager we asked for the copy that they are stating he didn't sign and all we got was a reprint with the tip added. Sad that they have dishonest employees and this is how they treat their customers. We will definitely not return to this establishment in the future.

Kelly K.

Yelp
The employee checking IDs at the front door is rude. Found a table that had menus on it and waited 15 minutes without being acknowledged by a server. Menus and table were covered in crusted food. It was extremely noisy in the covered outdoor area that my friend and I, who were next to each other, couldn't hear one another. Menu looked like basic bar food and nothing special. Ended up leaving due to my experience that night and plenty of other establishments willing to provide customer service and clean environment.

David L.

Yelp
Red Door Saloon is a top shelf dive bar. The drinks are reasonable, the bartenders are friendly, and there's a shuffleboard table. Just a piece of advice, don't use the electronic scoring system. We were able to get two and half games in for $2. Just keep score on your own. At night the place gets packed, especially the patio area.

Samantha B.

Yelp
Fun spot and good drinks. They were out of 1800 coconut to make a pineapple tequila drink. But the tequila sunrise i had was very good. Its very open and airy. Just a great overall spot to hang out at. Also dont forget to ask, "where is the hole?"

Ana R.

Yelp
As we visited Nashville we decided to explore a bit more into town and see where the locals hangout. We saw this place and decided to go in. Hubby had a beer and I had a drink which I don't remember the name but it was vodka with pineapple n moonshine I believe. It called my attention and I decided to try it. Just a warning don't take a huge bite of the pineapple which I didit's soaked in alcohol n it's really strong. Some people actually warned me not to take a big bite and nonetheless me being fearless I did lol. Btw we also had a Chicago dog and it was delicious along with potato salad. This is a locals spot, I really liked it.

Zack M.

Yelp
Awesome service! Excellent drinks! 1 of my favorite places! Restrooms available. Spacious. Great location. Hotels nearby.

Lana B.

Yelp
Red Door is a super chill vibey bar! You can spot this bar as you walk up due to its red lights all around the outside. Red Door Saloon also serves food, but I have not tried their food yet. There is an outdoor area, that right now is covered but I have a feeling they will take this down as it starts to get nicer out! Red Door Saloon is the type of place you go with your friends to make more friends. It was a very diverse crowd and we loved it!

Dave M.

Yelp
Love this place, great pours, great bartenders and my kind of atmosphere! Originally from Chicago, the memorabilia is fantastic. The kitchen was closed for remodeling or I'd give it a 5 star. Hope the have the Chicago dog, pizzas and beef the next time I get to Nashville

Sarah B.

Yelp
This place used to be it.... They hired a bunch of security at $25 an hour after the place got shot up and now they think they are in charge of the town. Talk about a power trip. Whatever company is in charge of their security is NOT IT !!! Those guys are going to lose this business a lot of money with that mentality ! Ps bartenders and original front door guys are great

Mark C.

Yelp
Bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, great place to go for a drink in a proper glass.

Stacia N.

Yelp
We tried this place out on a Friday night about 9PM. We were starving. Hangry. Just wanted some food without the hour plus wait. Someone told us "You might run into stars here." Seemed like a bonus, but really, just starving. Thankfully we beat the crowd by about 27 seconds and got our order in. Pros: food was really good. I had shrimp and tots. Yummm! Hubs had a poi boy shrimp sand which. Both very good. Would absolutely order again. Cons: Then, the crowd of squealies got in the door, took the large table, lapped onto, literally, our table. Selfies. Duck faces. How cute am I as I squeal & spill my beer everywhere...Forget about social distancing, how about personal space people. Get. Your. Body. Off. My. Arm...... This is where i decided I'm too told for this... Switched food to go & returned to the comfort of my hotel and rooftop bar. Flexible establishment works with us on leaving. Peacefully and quickly. Would return. Squealies, please grow up

Anthony V.

Yelp
Great casual bar in Midtown Nashville. Always friendly service. Ronnie is the best bartender in town. He looks out for others, reacts quickly. Super cool guy. Beers are cold. Conversation is good. Local crowd with out-of-towners mixed in. Always see someone there. Got to go to Red Door! Peek down the hole in the floor between the restrooms and the bar.

Kara S.

Yelp
Great place we stopped on our bar crawl! They had these root beer float bombs that were amazing! Does anybody know what's in them?

Ekgperez ..

Yelp
I wish I can give it a 5 star but dang I do not appreciate the red headed server not only throwing our food at us but calling one of the girls in our party a bitch that's extreme we came here for a good time not for this! But I should say the chicken pesto panini was super good and the bartender was awesome! Sorry she blew it moolah by

Sammie R.

Yelp
I got a bloody mary and my boyfriend got the bushwhacker. both drinks were super good. loved the decor and atmosphere. security and bartender were super nice.

Dr. Albert B.

Yelp
So this place was my first stop in Nashville. I was staying near Vanderbilt and Red Door seemed inviting. Upon entering I could see that there was some kind of Chicago connection. There were a few random Chicago street signs and lots of silly Cubs signs plastered around. No Sox. No Bears. The bartender, a young hipster fellow from Springfield, was an I.D. nazi. He would hunt you down within 60 seconds of entering the place. I get it. You don't want to lose your liquor license but carding people who are clearly older than you will reflect on your tip. Further, let me sit down before you come out from behind the bar to card people. On the plus side the place was big and there was plenty of room to sit. Drinks were pretty cheap too. Food was average at best (everything tastes better when you're drinking). Bathroom was a shithole (see photo). Allegedly there is a pirate hidden under the floor. Will I be back? Probably not. Maybe. So many decisions...meh.

Mel C.

Yelp
Disclaimer: Here's my "In and out review." Oh boy! Looks like "Spring Break on Mars" in here. To be fair, I can't really comment on the drinks, service or much else in here because we just walked through for a while to check it out while staying for the weekend down the street. But it certainly looks to be a popular place, at least for a younger, college crowd. After walking around and being almost knocked over by a careless customer during our very short time inside, here are a few comments I heard from our group: "It's hot. I'm burning up. Those red lights. I can't stay in here!" "I smell urine." "They're playing great music though." Three stars for the music. Sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Michael P.

Yelp
Exactly what I wanted! It opened at 1100 and I accidentally was walking down Division at 1100 past the other choices sporting signs letting me know they employed live music. I had just passed ASCAP HQ where they collect the royalties for my band and saw the Red Door Saloon. I play original music and rarely listen to other people's work. So, live music just isn't attractive. I walk in and it's the kind of bar that is cluttered and well worn but not dirty. The bartender ID'd me and come to find out she had just relocated from Portland a year ago and was pretty happy about that. I had never heard of such a thing---I thought everyone was moving TO not FROM the People's Republic of PDX. I got a beer and soaked in the decor. She said that this might be the only bar in Nashville that does not allow live music, so musicians seem to gravitate here. Just my kind of place! It smelled like musician spirit and over the bar, instead of "Tonight's Live Act" was a very classy "Papst Blue Ribbon Served Here" sign. The Red Door had every element I love in a bar, down to the carving of "DON'T FORGET TO PAY YOUR TAB" in the sidewalk as you leave. I will come back and I'd love to bring my two brudders!

Joshua S.

Yelp
Male bartender was very rude going as far as saying "I don't care" when taking our drink orders. Also the smoke smell was overwhelming.

Rachel E.

Yelp
I was visiting town for a couple days and if I could get this please zero stars I'd give them zero stars. Me and my friend were sitting at the bar for 15 minutes and no bartender offered us any drinks. Even after the guy bartender saw us seating after the people before us left. We ended up leaving..... will never come back or recommend this place to my friends....

Camilla J.

Yelp
3.5 yeah it's a bit loud... But it's a bar! I have visited this bar a number of times and it is becoming a true favorite of mine. I have repeatedly been impressed with how fast their bartenders work here, they seem to always have a packed bar but you still can expect to be waited on in a perfectly reasonable time. Fun fact: One of the few that was open during the latest polar/freeze/shut down of most of Nashville! Tip: They also have a Red Door in Deston, FL. New year new score! Ok we are still at a pretty dive bar but if you compare to most other bars on this road it serves your drink in real glasses you can get 2 vodka red bull grey goose vodka for $16, just saying. Also the bartenders here are great, super fast and friendly. When watching the Titans play this is my favorite spot. At Kung Fu they won't turn the sound on because people might wanna watch another game... ehhhh... and Loosers TV kept flickering and the light made it hard to watch. Soulshine is good but they don't have enough screens and their TVs are too small.

Kate C.

Yelp
We had so much fun here! The blond bartender was hilarious and made sure we had fun! Played some shuffleboard. Got to peep the hole in the floor. Great spot for a dive bar drinks. DO NOT eat the pineapples soaked in the vodka! You have been warned lol.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Went here with a group of 11 people for a few drinks . Beers are about $4.50 -$8.00. There is indoor and out door seating and the vibe is very country dive bar-ish. It's in a popular area of town and great for socializing! I would recommend one of the local beers and butting a few coins in the jukebox!
