"The Red Tail, an Inner Sunset wine bar, has opened a new location in the same building as The Warfield in Civic Center. This spot features American and European wines as well as beers from local breweries like Cellarmaker. Details on a food menu are pending, but if its original location is any indication, there may be pop-ups in the future." - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1

Great local bar with both beer and wine! Very light bc of the big windows (no offense to the extra dark bars in this neighborhood but in the summer I need sunshine). Bartender was very friendly and accommodating, I'll definitely be back.

Loved loved my experience here! Randomly saw that they were doing bingo night and our group came here after dinner ready to play! The hostess was such a funny MC calling out all the numbers. Our table won some great prizes too. My stomach was a little full so I assumed that they had some fernet but was offered a free shot of underberg instead. It was not bad for being free had almost that same fernet feeling in the tummy. Such a fun vibe as neighborhood bar and I’ll will be back again.

I don’t normally write bad reviews, but I think this is well deserved. I was genuinely looking forward to visiting Red Tail—I had met the owner a few years back and remembered it as a friendly, relaxed spot. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t reflect that. When we arrived, I asked about sitting at a table the bartender had just wiped down, and he responded a bit defensively. I tried to make friendly conversation, mentioning I’d been there when it was more of a wine bar, but he quickly handed us menus and pointed to the beer list on the screen without much engagement. The bar was quiet—maybe a third full—and quite dark, so we used a phone light to read the menu. Mid-conversation, the bartender suddenly called out from across the bar telling us to turn off the light because it was “in his eyes.” We were seated at least ten feet away, and the way he approached it felt unnecessarily aggressive. When I explained we were just trying to read the menu, he insisted we were texting. We got up and left after that. The whole interaction felt odd and surprisingly tense. I’m not sure what was going on, but it made the space feel unwelcoming. I had high hopes, but I don’t think I’ll be returning. This happened April 24th around 9:30, in the event the owner wants to adress this.

Always a good time. East street parking. Rotating wine/ beer list. Attentive and friendly bar staff. Patrons are chill and this place is Dog friendly! 🐾❤️ belly rubs and sips. Love it. There’s also happy hour! Been here a handful of times and will be back! Sit outside and soak up the sun. Evenings trivia with prizes.

Could’ve just been an off day for the staff…. The service was terrible. Rude and bland. Only checked on our table once to take order and once to bring the check…..The evening was ruined. And we were celebrating a very special personal victory in our family. I wouldn’t go there again even if it were a free meal complements of the chef. I’ll pass.

Have visited a couple times so far. Love the rotating selection of beers - very tasty and different kinds of beers (it's not just IPAs!). Had a delicious English bitter from Ghost Brewery in West Oakland. Parklet is perfect for a happy hour or after dinner drink. They are working up to having some light food - but that hasn't started quite yet.

Google
Carefully crafted and curated. Love the selective yet approachable draft list. Also, not your typical craft beer bar in that the wine selection is equally curated. So feel free to bring your non beer drinking friends. Intimate decor and seating. The kinda place you can spin up a convo with the staff and still enjoy your company. Kudos! Will def be back. Ps. Read the description of items on the menu. It’s all really well thought out.

Google
This awesome place is both a neighborhood gem AND worth going out of your way for! Great local beers on tap, and the extensive wine list really shines with wines you won’t find elsewhere. The barman Michael knows his stuff, whether it’s a crisp Slovenian white, a complex Pet Nat orange wine, or a juicy Chianti. He creates such a welcoming atmosphere and treats new patrons like long-time regulars. Highly recommend The Red Tail!

Yelp
First time we walked in here based on Google and Yelp reviews, we thought we walked into the wrong place, thankfully we doubled back immediately, and have returned often. Wonderful vibe, feels like a much cooler friend's living room, varied and chill music (DJs on occasion), hilarious bartender, lovely variety of seating (unless it's Tuesday, for trivia you need to get there by 6-6:30), tucked away corners for dates, lovely bar seats for the social clientele or sports fans, coffee table encircled group seating, outdoor parklet...But my favorite nuances: 1. Lovely N.A. Options and CBD spritzers (the cherry is delightful), and 2. Thank you for having full bags of chips and snacks, not just little overpriced bar snack sizes. Some long days require a full bag.

Yelp
Cool wine bar/tap room in the Inner Sunset that allows outside food. We came here with a bigger group and took over a corner of the bar. We were celebrating a birthday and they let us bring in pizzas from a shop down the street. We spent a good portion of the day there so we hopped around from beer to wine. They had a mix of both stateside and international wines and lots of local beers. They offered wine by the bottle and by the glass, beers on tap, and bottles and cans of beers/ciders/kombucha. The white wine selection was lacking when we went in, but still a decent mix when you looked at the wine list as a whole. Bartenders were friendly and happy to let us taste before deciding what to order.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in after work this Friday for a drink. We hadn't been here before, which surprised me as it's been here for over 2 years and we come to 9th avenue often. The bartender couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. They had very unique, interesting, and well priced wines and beers. My wife had a Slovenian white blend. She enjoyed it and then tried a different white, also enjoyed it. I had a west coast IPA followed by a west coast Pale Ale. Both were great. We also had a house snack mix, which was a nice mix of different snacks in a bowl. The serving was so generous we took some with us when we left! I have to also say that the music, from when we went in till we left was great. We constantly were saying, this is a great song or who's singing this cover? It was a DJ spinning all of it off the end of the bar. He was on point. The place itself is cozy, very clean, and a place I'm already looking forward to visiting again.

Yelp
I went to this bar randomly on a tuesday night and was lucky enough that it was their trivia night. I recommend going for trivia - it was so fun!! Very casual vibe and the winner gets 6 drinks. Losing team also gets something! They allow food from outside places since they only serve beer and snacks. I recommend going to foghorn next door to grab some wings / vegan nuggets. Overall it was a very chill vibe with good options!

Yelp
I came with a bigger group for happy hour drinks. The bartender was super friendly and helpful--we asked to see all their happy hour wines and he was super patient in explaining each one. I had a rose followed by a sparkling wine, both were great. I also thought the complimentary popcorn was a fun touch. The bench seating tucked into the back corner was super cozy and overall made for a chill neighborhood happy hour!

Yelp
SUPER cool wine spot in the inner sunset that fills a huge gap in the neighborhood in terms of cool, non-divey bars. Great selection of wines (I highly recommend the flight, you get 4 well filled glasses of your choice for 20). Pours are INCREDIBLY generous so don't be surprised if you order a regular glass and it is more than you signed up for. They've got big wooden communal tables for groups, as well as private smaller table for couples/dates, and bar seating. We haven't had trouble finding seating for a large group. The place has great lighting, tons of plants, cool art, and wonderful service. So glad to have found this neighborhood gem.

Yelp
How nice to find a quality craft beer spot in the inner sunset. Though they've been open a year or so somehow this missed my radar. Guess I'll need to make up for lost time. Red Tail is conveniently located right on the N line AND across from Loving Hut. This is particularly appealing as they allow outside food. Time to get some steam buns to go with all that great beer. And it is truly a solid selection at Red Tail. They have plenty of draft and can selections to keep you proper hydrated. I enjoyed the likes of great notion, temescal, and barebottle while there. And to top it all off, it's a very welcoming space. Simple design, lots of plants, and the possibility of ample light if it's not a grey day. I also spotted some turntables there and would love to play (or listen to) records here. Cheers.

Yelp
Low quality photo of my wine glass, HIGH QUALITY experience! The Red Tail is an incredible wine bar with craft beer on Irving street in San Francisco. $20 for a flight of 4 high quality delicious wines. You just don't see deals that sweet in California (especially SF!) There is also a great Happy Hour and snacks. The owner was SO friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was beautiful, fun and relaxed. Plants are hung everywhere and the decor is unique and fun. One example is a photo of a topless Mona Lisa painting. We all took photo with it (it's not pictured here as it may not be in alignment with yelp guidelines). 10/10 recommend this spot and we are planning to join as wine members at our next visit!

Yelp
This wine bar is such a cute and cozy space. The space is warm and inviting, and the staff are quick to welcome you. I met up with a friend here and it was the perfect spot to catch up over some quality wines. Red Tail is easily a true neighborhood spot. From the moment I entered it felt like I was walking into a friend's living room. The staff member behind the bar gave great advice when it came to selecting wine for the evening and they were personable throughout our time here. In addition to a fantastic wine selection with some wonderful local wines in the mix - Red Tail also carries some solid local microbrews. With healthy green plants decorating the space and local art on the walls - Red Tail is a solid spot to unwind during the week. They host trivia Tuesdays as well as other mellow happenings throughout the week - and they even have a low-key DJ on Saturdays that starts spinning at 8:00pm. So nice to have this charming spot in SF to catch up with friends. Trust.

Yelp
I love this place for someone like me who's a bit more fruity this has been an amazing addition to the neighborhood - great wine & beer selection + sports on the tv :)

Yelp
You come here for good wine and good beer. The wine is good because it tastes delicious and follows the ethos of organic, biodynamic and minimal intervention. The beer is good because they know how to pick good beer. But really when you ask yourself "why go to Red Tail?". It is because stuff is amazing, bartender is incredibly amicable and gregarious and it makes you feel good even if you don't have plans to go to a bar with someone. That's the kind of place you can hang out solo watch a game and enjoy a great glass of delicious and head home. A few bars, nowadays provides a feeling of community and a sense of familiarity when you're walking into it by yourself.

Kathi T.

Yelp
The Red Tail is a true gem in every sense! Terrific local beers, and an extensive wine list with unique offerings and quirky (but helpful) descriptions. Barman Michael is happy to share his knowledge - and his favorites. He'll definitely find something for every palate. The vibe is spot-on with sports on TV, good music, cool art and plants to make it feel cozy. Service could not be any better. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Cute local spot, has excellent orange wines! Has been a little hard to find places with trendy orange wines in inner sunset but this place has a good selection. Not too crowded, quick service, tables get cleaned regularly. Overall good vibes!

Yelp
A cute little neighborhood beer and wine bar! Great for date nights, friend hangs, or just grabbing a drink alone. The bartenders are super friendly and the service is great!

Yelp
Had an amazing time here! Very nice selection of wines. Asked for a red wine flight and the som did not disappoint! Incredibly thoughtful wine suggestions based on my preferences.

Chelena G.

Yelp
The 1-star review on here that was unhappy with the cheese plate prompted me to go in and order it. 12/10. Tres delish. Big ups to the people who own the joint.

Andrew S.

Yelp
This is the best bar in the area for art and craft beer. I love this pace so much. The service is impeccable and they really care.

Yelp
I am glad that there is another spot for locals to hang out and drink but my experience was opposite of pleasant. So they have a parklet in front and I am walking my brother's dog while waiting for my family as they were shopping. I order something on tap while waiting and when my family is done my daughter needs to use the restroom. I ask if she can use the restroom and he immediately leads me outside and aggressively rushes my family, who was standing in the sidewalk (not even inside the parklet), away claiming that this is a bar and no one under 21 is permitted even in the parklet. In this case, not even permitted to stand on the sidewalk in-between the bar and parklet. All the while there was a party in the parklet with a young child playing in the parklet and he never said a word! I felt bad for my family as they had to go home in a rush, but I had to walk my brother's dog after I finished my beer. I had to let the bartender know that what he did was not right and so I did. Politely suggesting that he overreacted. He actually doubled down and pretended to not notice there was another child in the parklet. I have been to so many taprooms and the atmosphere has mostly been friendly and some even family friendly. Sadly this spot is in my neighborhood but I would rather make the trip to Barebottle, Sunset Reservoir to name a few. Can you really enforce who stands next to a parklet even if they were there for a minute?

Tiana F.

Yelp
I never write reviews but this place used to be great as Inner Fog. The owner was sweet. Now it's a nightmare! The person running the bar is so arrogant and can't take suggestions. I ordered the only cheese plate option. As a solo person it's expensive and at least 20 cubes of cheddar, crackers and pickles. No variety of cheese. A solo person won't want to eat that much cheddar not even in a grilled cheese sandwich! I would have given them the benefit of the doubt but the owner was just a jerk to me. So many better place to go in SF!

Yelp
Brilliant local fav. Team has done a brilliant job getting the place up and running. Great wine selection; always something new week to week. Always rotating their beers with excellent local crafts. Fun, chill environment

Caroli C.

Yelp
One of the best services I've ever had! I visited this location back in May but forgot to leave a review. It was one bartender working the bar that night and I unfortunately can't remember his name. He was a taller white man. I ordered a beer and had a disgusted facial expression when I took a sip. It was too bitter for my liking but from across the room he saw my face and brought me a beer that was perfect! I didn't read the menu correctly, so completely my fault but loved that he went above and beyond for me! Will definitely visit this bar again sometime.

Yelp
I stopped here on a whim this afternoon and was blown away! Both the staff and fellow patrons were kind, interesting, and wonderful. I was so pleasantly surprised. I had a glass and a half of the Nue Wild CA Orange after discussion with the knowledgeable bartender :) sweet little place with a neighborhood feel, plants and cool art and randomly a really beautiful bathroom that smells amazing? I'm happy I stopped by and can't wait to come back.

Yelp
What's not to like about this spot? Great selection of wine and beers that are constantly rotating. Friendly folks behind the bar and live djs and food pop ups every week. Also dog friendly and you can bring your own food in. Glad to have them in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Great place to visit when visiting ucsf. Great selection. Good decor. Bar tender was very good and bought me a drink while I am caring for my dad at the hospital. Much appreciated.
google avatar

Heidi D.

Yelp
I am glad there is a wine bar in the hood but the vibe is a little too much like the beer and wing place across the street with TVs and bright lights. It's a nice space but I feel like it should offer a more cozy ambiance for having wine and talking. Maybe dimming the lighting and turning off the TVs after a certain time, like 8:30pm onwards, would help. The parklet is by the tracks so you will occasionally be interrupted by the train if sitting outside.
google avatar

Yelp
A hidden gem! Cozy and not too loud. Good selections of beer and wine, we'll definitely be back for a happy hour.

Yelp
We're so excited to have The Red Tail in our neighbourhood! The beer and wine selections are both great, good quality stuff you can't find everywhere else. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Siddhartha B.

Yelp
The bar was understaffed, with only one employee for the whole bar on a busy night. Tables were dirty. The music was very loud and the sports theme did not mesh with the plant decor. Staff was overbearing and impolite.

Dennis M.

Yelp
While not a " brew pub" the Red Tail has a rotating selection of about 10 local microbreweries and a number of great bottled beer. Nice inside seating an a parklet outside. Great little new stop off.
google avatar

Kurt N.

Yelp
Great rotating beer and wine list from industry veterans. You'll find beer from slightly off the beaten path breweries; along with a wine list that beer drinkers will enjoy.

alexandra s.

Yelp
This place is rad. Rotating beer selection, delicious wines as well. Typical pricing of ~ $13 for wine ~$8 for beer. Owners were kind and chatty. Great place to bring a group or huddle with a date

Jordan A.

Yelp
Awesome new spot in Inner Sunset with a great local beer selection and an insightful wine program including some wines sourced from lesser known regions that produce some really stand out wines. Conner behind the bar knows his stuff, and made the experience awesome. Nice parklet out front for fresh air.

Kelly P.

Yelp
Love this cute neighborhood bar with real people and great wines + beers sourced locally. If you're looking for a late night wine or easygoing happy hour spot, this is it. Look for further. You have met your match.
