I don’t normally write bad reviews, but I think this is well deserved. I was genuinely looking forward to visiting Red Tail—I had met the owner a few years back and remembered it as a friendly, relaxed spot. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t reflect that.
When we arrived, I asked about sitting at a table the bartender had just wiped down, and he responded a bit defensively. I tried to make friendly conversation, mentioning I’d been there when it was more of a wine bar, but he quickly handed us menus and pointed to the beer list on the screen without much engagement.
The bar was quiet—maybe a third full—and quite dark, so we used a phone light to read the menu. Mid-conversation, the bartender suddenly called out from across the bar telling us to turn off the light because it was “in his eyes.” We were seated at least ten feet away, and the way he approached it felt unnecessarily aggressive. When I explained we were just trying to read the menu, he insisted we were texting. We got up and left after that.
The whole interaction felt odd and surprisingly tense. I’m not sure what was going on, but it made the space feel unwelcoming. I had high hopes, but I don’t think I’ll be returning.
This happened April 24th around 9:30, in the event the owner wants to adress this.
