One of America’s Most High-Profile Chefs Sets Her Sights on Fredericksburg | Eater Austin

"Set to debut in 2027 inside Fredericksburg’s forthcoming Waldorf Astoria Hill Country Resort, this Dominique Crenn–run spot is planned as a detour from her usual vegetarian and pescatarian focus, with an emphasis on game—perhaps a quail terrine—and tasting menus, though at least at its inception it will opt for à la carte dishes to be, as she puts it, “very inclusive to anyone who will walk in the door.” The menu aims to draw from Fredericksburg’s agriculture and source local ingredients, and while it will not lean on the town’s deep German ties, Crenn notes similarities with cuisine from her native northern France and says her German grandmother’s cooking informs and inspires her approach." - H. Where To Eat & Drink In Fredericksburg - Austin - The Infatuation

"The Restaurant at Albert Hotel is a fine-ish dining restaurant with an elaborate menu that honors Fredericksburg’s German origins. It’s a lively place to celebrate with friends over a group dinner, or to decompress from the day and people-watch at its 360° bar. From starters to main courses and sides, its dishes build upon one another in savory harmony. Order the lamb tartare to kick things off, and round it out with the venison schnitzel. Here's a highly recommended hack we picked up from the waitstaff, if you’re feeling particularly casual: dip a side of beef tallow fries in an order of whipped mashed potatoes—you won’t regret it." - samantha grasso

Best Upcoming Austin Restaurants in 2024 | Eater Austin

"I'm dying to see what chef Michael Fojtasek (of Olamaie and Mai Day) plans to do with the main restaurant at the Albert Hotel in Fredericksburg, scheduled to open soon; they won't say what the menu will be — just 'gourmet farm-to-table' — and it will be in a historic structure on Main Street next to the little building with the cute bas-relief stone elephant over the door." - Erin Russell

Texas Hotel the Abert Will Open in Fredericksburg With New Restaurants and Bars | Eater Austin

"I learned the Restaurant at Albert Hotel will be open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and will focus on seasonal dishes inspired by the Texas Hill Country, including specific offerings such as a spring salad, lamb rack with horseradish, and spaetzle; its wine list is planned to feature a wide range of local and international bottles." - H. December 2025 We were staying at the Albert Hotel and dined at the Restaurant twice, once for lunch and another breakfast. For lunch I had the Club Sandwich. Sat at the bar and the bartender was cool. The sandwich was good and like the menu stated had turkey, bacon, tomato, and mayonnaise. It had great flavor and fulfilling. For breakfast we sat at a table and was a bit more fine dining upscale versus the bar. The service was a bit slower in waiting for my coffee and food. I ordered the Avocado Toast and to my surprise included two eggs. Everyone has their own rendition of avocado toast and the Restaurant had their own. It had excellent presentation and the taste of the toast with avocado, arugula, and tomato was perfect with great flavor. The eggs tasted farm fresh and complimented it very well. The staff was professional even though felt like working on island time but we just enjoyed the experience before walking along Main Street.

Zoe was perfect. Honest about what she has personally experienced balanced with what feedback she has collected. Lunch was our stop. Great burger, fries in beef tallow, chicken Caesar salad wrap was perfect, and lovely dessert. My only feedback for room for improvement is to clean banquet seats and serve warmer coffee. Otherwise we would give a 5! Definitely coming back.

PRICE AND QUALITY DO NOT MATCH! Disappointing experience at The Albert Restaurant. High prices for mediocre service, food, and atmosphere. NOT AN UPSCALE PLACE! I booked a table to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Our reservation was late in the evening, and in Fredericksburg most places close early on Sundays. We arrived on time and placed our order. Ten minutes later, the server returned to inform us they were out of the ribeye steak. My husband chose another dish. Despite the fact that the kitchen was about to close, the server didn’t place the new order right away — instead, she went on to chat with other tables. While waiting for the main course, we received our Brussels sprouts, which tasted awful. We ended up canceling the entire order. The manager comped two drinks and the sprouts, but my husband’s birthday dinner was completely ruined and other places were already closed!

Terrible service. Waited for over 20 minutes to be seated after reserving beforehand. I ordered the albert breakfast from their weekend brunch menu and the picture speaks for itself. I took one bite of the egg and a bite of sausage but hadn’t touched anything else while taking this photo. I got ends of the bread for toast. And it cost me $18. We had our pup with us. We asked if they had a dog bowl. They said yes and would bring it out. Never brought it. Not once did they stop at our table again. The only good thing about this place was the bartender who took our order. Not sure why he was waiting tables, but he did an incredible job.

The Restaurant at the Albert Hotel delivers exceptional dining that elevates Hill Country cuisine to new heights. The venison schnitzel was expertly prepared with a crispy coating and perfectly seasoned. The spätzle was cooked to perfection, beautifully marrying European technique with local Texas ingredients. The real show stopper? The cream collards. Rich, velvety, and bursting with flavor – this dish completely redefined my expectations for collard greens. Absolutely phenomenal. Our server Anne was outstanding. Her menu knowledge was impressive, recommendations spot-on, and she struck the perfect balance of attentiveness without being intrusive. She made our dining experience truly special. The Restaurant at the Albert Hotel has earned its place among Texas's finest dining establishments. Destination-worthy cuisine that showcases the best of the Hill Country. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommended.

Friends, my husband, and I had an incredible dining experience at Albert! The Wagyu ribeye was absolutely amazing - so juicy and flavorful. While I was hoping for something beyond just Texas Wagyu, it was still an incredibly delicious cut of meat. The sides were just as impressive; both the fries and mashed potatoes were unbelievably good. And the drinks? Simply perfect. The espresso martinis were my favorite - rich, smooth, and expertly crafted. If you’re looking for a spot with top-tier food and drinks/ fancy dinner in Fredericksburg, Albert is the one. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to come back. 🥰👏🏽

My wife and I came down here for the first leg of our honeymoon. Zoe N. greeted us our first night with a bottle of champagne out of the blue and surprised both my wife and I. She was such a warm and loving individual to open the door to. The following day we decided to eat dinner at the restaurant and Zoe ended up being out hostess and ultimately our server. I do not know how her boss is but this young woman either needs to be promoted or given a raise. She is going place and needs to be treated as such.

Had an amazing brunch at The Albert! We ordered the steak and eggs and the avocado toast—both were phenomenal. Big shoutout to Samuel, who was incredibly attentive, helpful, and made the whole experience even better. Can’t wait to be back!

Yelp
We had such a wonderful date night at The Restaurant at Albert! I truly don't understand the comments about small portions the serving sizes were more than generous across the board. We started our evening at the bar, where the young male bartenders were not only easy on the eyes but also very attentive. I ordered the Blanco Blueberry Mule and my husband had an Old Fashioned; both cocktails were crafted perfectly. After enjoying drinks, we were seated right on time for our reservation. Our waitress, Scarlett, greeted us immediately and brought out water and bread with butter while we looked over the menu. And let me just say... the butter. OMG. Apparently it's the chef's secret recipe (and he won't share), but it's made with pecans and is honestly one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted. It's legit like ice cream. I initially tried to order a specific Cabernet Sauvignon that was unfortunately out, but chose another option instead, a Napa Valley Cab I believe from Groth Winerty, and it was absolutely delicious. Rich and robust. For appetizers, we ordered the Enchanted Mushroom, which had an incredible smoky flavor and was outstanding, along with the beef tartare, which was also excellent. Both appetizers were generously portioned and very satisfying. My pics make it look smaller than it was because I had to hold the camera back for portrait mode. We also ordered the truffle mac and cheese, which was rich, comforting, and had the perfect amount of truffle. Flavorful without being overpowering. For our entrées, I had the chicken fried steak and my husband ordered the filet. His filet came out cooked exactly as requested- rare to medium-rare- and was perfect. My chicken fried steak was cooked beautifully, though I will say the breading on top was a bit over-salted. And I love salt, but even for me it was a bit much. Aside from that, the dish was very well prepared. We finished by sharing the butterscotch crème brûlée, which was absolutely incredible. Deliciousness in every single bite. Scarlett was fantastic throughout the entire meal, striking the perfect balance of attentiveness without hovering. Overall, this place is awesome, and we will definitely be back!

Yelp
They are working on a new menu in November 2025 and working out the rough edges. Super nice staff.

Yelp
In short the staff was wonderful but the food is not up to par for the price point (the French toast was $20 and only two small slices). I wanted this to be good after seeing multiple "influencer" reviews of the property and restaurant but it just didn't live up to the experience of a luxury, high end restaurant. That being said it's new so I'm sure they are still working through some things. I ordered the burger which had caramelized onions, cheese, and crunchy onions medium rare. The burger was bland with almost no flavor whatsoever. While the fries were crunchy, they were cold and clearly not fresh. The table also had avocado toast which appears to have been squirted out of a bag and not freshly made. In my opinion the price point should be reduced by 35-40% for the food we received. That being said, the staff was welcoming and friendly and very accommodating and the building is gorgeous. Adjust the price point or food and this would be a 5 star experience.

Yelp
Simply named The Restaurant is not worthy of this fabulous dining room. This undoubtedly was one of the best meals Suzie and I have had in many months. Don't let the thought of, well this is just a hotel restaurant, unassumingly in the lobby bar area of the new Albert Hotel. Big Whoop. I'm here to tell you Friday PM, this was massive. We made reso's for 6.30pm and were seated promptly and Eric our server greeted us with a big smile and we got stuck in. Asked re allergies, Suzie has a shell fish one, noted. We looked at the menu while we finished our drinks we brought from the bar, no issue there. We wanted to try a couple of appy's and entree's. I spied this Quail Cushion thing $22 served on Black Rice with Jus. I asked if this was difficult to eat in order to share and Eric let me know it cuts like butter. We added the Smoked Mushrooms, Enchanted Mushroom gravy, yellow grits, chive. $25. Ok, just get this. Srsly, this is excellent. Lightly smoked mushrooms and a full body mushroom sauce shares the beautiful dinner ware with the creamy yellow grits. Chives adds colour and small crunch. It was just perfect combination of flavors/textures. The Quail was redonkulous. What I mean by that is the bones have generally been removed and you just cut it in half and snarf like it was a quail/chicken meat ball. The little legs were meat tootsie pops. Delicious, complex and i wanted another one immediately. It was so cute when it came out. We moved on to our dinner entree's. VENISON SCHNITZEL cabbage, caraway, mushroom demi-glace for me $42 and the Suz, LAMB horseradish cream, kohlrabi, mint $60. The Venison Schnit was a riff on schnit's I have enjoyed in Vienna before. In F-Burg you can get Schnit's in various places, but not like this little meat pancake. The Venison is locally sourced of course and isn't the size of a skillet, like places tend to serve. Nicely cooked and placed on top of a well prepared, light vinergary red cabbage and topped with a mushroom demi-glace. Caraway can be a powerful spice, but when used properly you get a lighter, sharper, slightly licorice-like flavor that blends very well with the Mushroom demi-glace. Loved it, licked the plate kind of thing. Lamb for Suzie is a challenge. However, she found the lamb to be delicious. Now, you need to hunker down with this and eat the little lamb on the bone bits with your hands. The outer edge was every so slightly Med Well but when eaten down to the bone, perfect. Kohlrabi is a vegetable, sometimes called German turnip or turnip cabbage. I like turnips personally and being in Fredericksburg, why not have it with lamb and a very british mint sauce. She found it a great pairing with the lamb. I agree since I snagged one of the little choppy lamby bits to try as well. We choose a simple side with our entree's and that was the CREAMED RICE Carolina Gold, Fredericksburg flowers $12. A warm, cozy, southern comfort rice dish, with the all the buttery consistency in your face. Perfect for the mushroom gravy of my dish and Suzie's lamb. It's actually listed as an appetizer, but fits here. Eric brought me an excellent bottle of Pinot Grigio and not the most expensive one either. It clocked in at $40 and I took the rest of the bottle up to our room afterwards. We didn't want to leave so we opted to tuck into dessert as well. What a trip that was. It looked like something from a cartoon when it arrived. SEMIFREDDO, Brut frozen custard, citrus pistachio cake, raspberry $14. The raspberry was actually foam. I hate foam. However, this was much more dense, packed with tangy raspberry flavor, crunchy bits of num nums on top and was again, a great balance with the pistachio cake and custard. Custard was frozen, so think ice cream texture here. I dunno peeps. Do I eat here again. Absolutely, 100%. Would I drive from my home in Oak Hill, just to dine here.. you know I would. Is it the best meal I have eaten in F-Burg, without a doubt. You add a great meal with a knowledgeable professional server who knows when to check in, when to not bother you and intrinsically knows when you need something. It's everything you could hope for.

Yelp
DO NOT COME HERE! This was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time. The waitress took far too long and seemed uninterested the entire time. The prices definitely do not match the quality of the food. We ordered the snapper ($40) and the filet ($60), and both tasted like they had been microwaved--very poor quality and incredibly small portions for the price. The sides were just as disappointing. The asparagus and crab rice were both extremely plain and lacked any real flavor. For the cost, I expected a much better experience. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Karla K.

Yelp
Servers are wonderful as are all staff encountered in hotel! Menu could use to be enlarged; if you stay at hotel and wish to dine here a few times it is very limited. Suggestions: add a pasta dish such as a caprese which could be vegetarian and then offer option to add chicken or shrimp. Cheese plate could be stepped up by adding some local pecans (toasted), a small butter container holding hill country honey and a Demi tasse spoon, instead of all crackers also have small slices of toasted breads.

Jeanne B.

Yelp
Wow, I will be completely honest. This is very likely the best food I have ever had in my life. EVERYTHING was just wonderful. The beef tallow French fries were completely unbelievable, and my steak was beautiful- cooked perfectly, and garnished like a piece of art. Devin was very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I will make every effort to come here again! Just wonderful.

Theresa B.

Yelp
I really really wanted to love this restaurant. The ambiance on the private patio off main street under the moonlight is perfect. However the service and food is lacking. I really hope the staff can improve the quality of both. It is way over priced. The bar had limited beer and missing ginger beer for mule. When we asked for more bread after waiting 35 minutes for our food and were told we would be charged... thats just disappointing when you are paying $40 for chicken and salmon plate. Please try to improve.

Yelp
I took my wife here for her Birthday. We had brunch. We had steak and eggs and they were decent. I couldn't get over how bad the service was from our particular waitress (Eliana H). I get if it was busy but there was no one else at brunch. It seems like they are still trying to figure things out. Definitely wouldn't come back again because of the service.

Erica K.

Yelp
10/10 dining experience! Their dinner menu is delicious and unique. Service was great as well and gave us good recommendations -- like the mushroom appetizer which was soooo good! Go there for dinner AND breakfast -- their croissant was so fluffy and the yogurt was amazing.

Douglas M.

Yelp
Food was amazing can't say enough. We had the Quail Cushion and Mushrooms and grits for apps. Then chicken dish and the Filet for dinner. The chicken dish was the star. Only issue was that we were there on a Friday at 7 and we were the only ones there! If not seated next to the bar we may have left.

Maryan B.

Yelp
Entree was really mediocre at best but the desserts, coconut cake & semifreddo, were fantastic.

Matt R.

Yelp
My wife has been wanting to try this restaurant and we finally did today for brunch. It was pretty underwhelming. The menu is very limited and it took FOREVER to get our food. It wasn't busy at all, so no idea why it was so slow. It's also very overpriced. Brunch was almost $200 for two adults and 2 kids. Be careful because they serve your drinks (non alcoholic) in about 6oz glasses and apparently charge for refills.

Rachel M.

Yelp
The ambiance was great! The service & food were BAD. There was no inside seating when we made our dinner reservation. But when we got there only one inside table was occupied. Okay. But it was kind of nice to sit outside. The weather was good and we had the balcony all to ourselves. Our server was not very friendly & seemed like he didn't want to be there. We were a party of six so he was getting an automatic 20% tip whether he did a good job or not. The dinner menu is small. I wanted to know what "creamy rice" was on the appetizer menu. Our waiter said- yeah, that's not really an appetizer. It's just white rice with a pat of butter on it. He then told us-it's not a lot of food. (creamy rice is $12). He then explained that entrees do not come with any sides & the sides they offer separately "aren't a lot of food." They will feed 1, maybe 2 people. We all laughed and I said: You're really selling this place! He replied- yeah, I'll make fun of the menu with you all day. Two of us got the 8 oz filet -$58. I was expecting a delicious, melt in your mouth, perfectly seasoned steak for that price. It was fine at best. The "steak knife" looked like a letter opener. It wasn't sharp AT ALL. We used our butter knives instead. The $16 carrot soup was just okay- needed salt. Two of us ordered whipped potatoes. He brought out French fries instead saying, "We ran out of whipped potatoes. Here are your fries." That was the first we heard we were getting fries. We sent the mushroom appetizer back because there were hardly any mushrooms and it tasted terrible. Whatever you do- do NOT order the chicken. First of all, it didn't even look like chicken. The menu says chicken breast but they served a weird chicken leg/hush puppy hybrid thing and sliced "breast" that looked like smoked turkey. The venison schnitzel was the best thing. It was actually good. The steaks were fine. Chicken- terrible. The soup & fries were fine. it also took a long time to get our food. Don't know why- we were the only diners. We had five mixed drinks & one glass of wine. Our waiter didn't ask us if we wanted a second drink. Which was okay with me because my drink was okay. (There's a theme going on here ). Our bill was $450! I had to inform our waiter he did not take off that mushroom dish ($26) we sent back. One bite was enough. Also-he never asked if we wanted a replacement for the mushroom appetizer or maybe offer a drink, SOMETHING-especially since it was my friend's entree. Nope. No apology,NO "can I get you something else?"NOTHING. We were expecting outstanding food & service for this price point. It's a shame, because the hotel & atmosphere are beautiful. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant & I would never go back.
