"The Rooster, originally known as Rooster Soup Co., is a Jewish deli run by the Federal Donuts team. It was established in partnership with the Broad Street Ministry’s Hospitality Collaborative and aimed to support Philadelphians in need by donating all profits to the non-profit. Despite its philanthropic mission and the use of leftover chicken from Federal Donuts to minimize food waste, the restaurant is closing on June 8 due to financial losses." - Rachel Vigoda

"The Rooster changed its menu which made me nervous for the little lunch counter, but when I tried the Yemenite matzo ball soup with the smoked meat sandwich, I was astounded. The menu change was a welcome evolution." - Tim Forster

"Rooster Soup Co., Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook’s Center City diner, donates all its profits to charity. George Sabatino, who joined the restaurant in February, has already left. Jarrett O’Hara, who has been with Rooster Soup since it opened, has taken over as chef. Rooster Soup Co. opened in early 2017 with a retro style and aims to use discarded chicken bones from Federal Donuts, another venture by Solomonov and Cook. The restaurant supports the Broad Street Ministry’s Hospitality Collaborative." - Rachel Vigoda

You might miss this gem as it is located downstairs not on ground level. Brunch menu is simple but food is great. Cornmeal waffles with fruit preserves were amazing. It feels like a friendly diner. Restaurant has comfortable seating and large booths in the back. The menu changes regularly. Can't beat eating for a cause. Profits go to supporting a soup kitchen.

Delicious simple food and cocktails done right and for a good cause. The inside is reminiscent of a beautiful diner. The burger is excellent. I love the "everything" sauce! Try the schnitzel sandwich too, you won't be disappointed. It's exactly what you need when you need it.

2019 brings a new chef, new ordering situation, and a streamlined menu to The Rooster. Gone are the paper menus (walk in and order at the counter), but never fear, the Yemenite matzo ball soup is still on the menu. You'll also find a few salads, a handful of sandwiches, and a few beers on tap. Come in on the weekend for Rooster brunch, which also features its own mini-menu. Service is prompt and efficient, the staff is friendly, and the food is delicious (and, best of all, affordable). Try a cookie and you won't be disappointed.

Delicious smoked matzoh ball soup made bright with dill. Yummy Thai carrot salad. Will definitely dine here again!

Got the Kosher salami sandwich to go. Did not know it was toasted until I sat down to eat it 3 hrs later. 3 hour old toast does not make for a good sandwich.

First of all the good this place is doing is immeasurable! Profits go to help the needy and vulnerable in the city...secondly... George Sabatino coming to this restaurant is.. Well another blessing. He has an amazing palate and is so creative! As with all Michael Solomomov's restaurants the staff is so friendly! They must love their jobs! Seriously. The menu changes... So if its still there get the pork belly. Luscious... Fatty... F Porky seared just enough served with grits and an egg... Wow! Also the sausage cornbread waffle is the best of all breakfast worlds combined into one...with smoked maple syrup and mint...MINT! Who would think to put mint? I wouldn't but im so glad they did... It was f##ing delicious. Prices are very reasonable... Drinks are expertly made... Service is excellent! Go and do good just by eating a fantastic meal... Win-win!

Amazing business that supports Broad Street Ministry!!! Burgers are great especially during happy hour and obviously the soups are great! Califlower and matzah ball soups are both tasty. Great place for lunch or happy hour.

Local bar with soup & stuff. Downstairs from Goldie. We got soup to go. Great staff. To go order exceptionally well packed. However, the Ribolitta white bean soup was way too salty, almost to the point of not being eatable.
