Welcome to the neighborhood, "The Royal Blue" (TRB). This establishment has been in business for about seven days, at this point. It seems like a wonderful addition to the area. Actually, this location used to be several iterations of bars prior to TRB occupying the space. I have many fond memories And partied many nights here. Looking around, they did a fantastic job of keeping a few items of yesteryear, and updating the rest of the bar in a diner retro feel. To pay homage to the previous owners, they actually removed a mural from the billiard room that's been around since the 70s and placed it in the main room above the main bar. That was a very cool touch. On to the grub...
1. Smash Burger ~ Two 4 oz beef patties seasoned and smothered in sticky onions, applewood smoked bacon and American cheese, iceburg & RB sauce, served on a toasted brioche bun. (Available Plant). Yummy yum yum in my tum tum tum. All the flavors, textures and juices married perfectly in every single bite. No dry parts ANYWHERE! This is a major win for me. I love a sloppy burger. As 'Fat Basta*d' said in 'Austin Powers', the smash was "GET IN MY BELLY" goodness!!!
2. Narragansett Lager: This was my 1st time trying this beer. I actually chose it bc It made me nostalgic, of the awesome summer I had while interning in Rhode Island (how lived in Narragansett/ Newport. Worked in Newport), many moons ago. This beer did NOT disappoint in any way. Its brewed to be clean, crisp, refreshing and perfectly balanced. The flavor was much better than expected. After a lil digging around, I learned that Narragansett Lager (old reliable) was the first beer brewed by "The Original Six" back in 1890, and the best selling beer in New England from the 1930's to the 1970's. It has crossed paths with Dr. Seuss, it was famously crushed by Captain Quint in Jaws, and it was the first alcoholic beverage to partner with a professional sports team - the Boston Red Sox from 1944-1975. Quite an impressive history encompasses in a tiny aluminum can.
FYI... As TRB is brand spanking new, they are still working thru the menu offerings so there is no permanent menu in place at the moment. They create /print it off daily while they find their 'sweet spot'. Stick ur head in and check them out. They're worth the trip.
