"European Elegance in the Modern Midwest A top hat–adorned doorman welcomes you through the ivy-covered façade and into a bygone era of marble columns, chandeliers, plush furniture, and wooden four-post beds. If a horse and carriage pulled up at the valet, it would fit right in—and in fact, that's not an infrequent sight, as carriage tours are offered around the city. The Old-World charm of this historic landmark is complemented by modern amenities and easy access to city attractions like the Science Museum and Grand Avenue’s shopping, dining, and nightlife, as well as to green escapes like neighboring Rice Park and the Mississippi riverbank."

**Editing to add that they apologized for the miscommunication and gave us a credit. It seems it was just one particular employee we had a bad experience with. Everything else was great and all of our other staff interactions were very friendly and professional. I changed the review. My wife and I are paying a high premium rate to stay here this weekend for big events in the area. The valet asked if we had any bags, we said yes, and he told us he had our bags and vehicle from here and we can go to the front desk. He gave us a ticket stub (which, admittedly, I did not look closely at since we were in a hurry) and we checked in. We did not go to our room, we left for our event. We came back in the evening, got in our room, and we had no bags. I called the front desk, and the person working sounded very annoyed immediately. I asked if our bags could be brought up. He said no, I need a luggage ticket, and I have to come down. Sure. So I grab our stub from earlier and notice it is for valet, not luggage. I get down to the front desk, explain what happened, and the guy sighs heavily and sarcastically said, "Wow, that's such a bizarre scenario." Our luggage never made it in, so they had to bring our vehicle up, and I grabbed all our bags and headed back in. After our day, we were hoping for something to eat, and called down to the restaurant that stopped serving at 11. It was about 10:50. (I know, I know, but that ordeal with the bags took about 20 minutes.) They had already closed down. We went to bed frustrated, and there was a small bug in the bed. Not a great first night. Again, we are paying a HIGH rate for our room. I expected better. The hotel itself and location are great.

My husband and I recently spent four nights at the St Paul Hotel while attending the Minnesota Yacht Club music festival. The location was the initial draw as it was walking distance to the venue. We travel quite a bit and have stayed in many nice hotels and we both agreed that this was one of our favorites! The building itself is beautiful and our room was immaculate. Some of the best room service and house keeping we’ve experienced. The St Paul Grill is the onsite restaurant and the food and service was superb! A bit pricey but well worth it. There is also a lobby bar which has coffee and pastries is the mornings or you can have breakfast at the Drake which was also amazing. It’s rare that we leave a place with no complaints but it happened during this stay! Book a stay at the St Paul. You will not be disappointed!

This is by far the BEST place to stay in St Paul. It is conveniently located. Every staff member from the doormen who greet you to the front desk to the bar and grill are the best people. Everyone makes an effort to get to know you and makes you comfortable. The food in the restaurant is outstanding. We have been there several times, and I love the wild mushroom soup. The steaks are always done to perfection. I would always stay there without question.

Enjoyed our stay. Hotel is very old and has a lot of charm. Staff was helpful. Could see some wear and tear, but all in all, very pleasant. Rate was good as well. Location was great for a St. Paul wedding. There was a sweet festival during our stay which made it more interesting.

My wife and I visit the Twin Cities many times a year as both our children live there. We have stayed in many, many hotels, looking at the visits as a chance to relax and unwind. Half the trip is to visit the kids, the other half to enjoy a weekend of "out on the town". The hope the hotels add to the experience. Not so much with the St Paul. The lobby and bar area are classy as all get out. The service was extremely solid. I even liked the location. All that said, the room itself was not worth the $200+/night we paid. The view we got was blah, the TV on a dresser to the side of the room made for uncomfortable viewing, and the bathroom left much to be desired. The water pressure was so egregious, it could take off skin. I fiddled with it in hopes of enjoying a long vacation shower, but to no avail. And with that amount of hot water pouring out, those cloth shower curtains fly up and onto your body as your showering. Gross. Grosser yet was the inability for the drain to keep up with the amount of water. Standing in used water just kinda...sucks. Everyone was pleasant and sweet, but the room lost the review.

This is not my first stay here. I don’t know what’s happened, but the service was disappointing. My room temperature was 75, despite the thermostat set at 68. It was so hot I couldn’t sleep. The room was dirty. The outlets and mirrored lights didn’t work in the bathroom. The faucet on the shower was stuck closed. ||My breakfast was served without key ingredients. ||The bar, which was posted to stay open until 10:30pm, closed early (I arrived before 9pm) without reason. I was unable to order food, but could take my glass of wine to my room. ||As I was preparing to leave and ordering my Uber, the attendant said I should use the waiting taxi. He assured me it would be the same price (I told him Uber was $25). I confirmed that I could pay with Apple Pay as I do not carry cash. He said yes. The taxi was dirty and seemed to be in disrepair but the driver very nice. Unfortunately, the price was $20 more than the Uber. When I went to pay, he had no Apple Pay option. I used my emergency credit card but was unable to use that to leave a tip. Thus, my poor driver was left without a tip. ||The location and outward charm of the hotel are the same as before—very nice and special. It’s just disappointing that customer comfort and service has fallen behind.

The hotel is lovely and the staff is extremely nice. We also appreciated the courtesy van that took us to nearby attractions upon request. Food was very good, but all bars and restaurants within the hotel close at 10:30pm every night. The hotel has a lovely and welcoming garden in front.

Google
Excellent location!! Walkable to just about everything downtown. Beautiful historic hotel. Staff were super friendly and they certainly attempt to maintain the historic charm while not seeming old and worn out. That being said, the rooms could use a pick me up. They are a bit drab and the bedding and drapery could be updated while maintaining the historic elements. Love that you can actually still open the windows! Bathrooms are totally functional and enjoyed the Aveda products, but they too need some love. The thick walls though were so nice and there was no no noise transfer, aside from the sounds of neighboring water pipes. But I’d rather hear that than voices and pounding foot steps. Small section of fridge can be used for personal items, the rest is mini bar. No microwave in room, but K-cup coffee and actual ceramic mugs. I would definitely stay here again, but better choice than standard chain options nearby.

Yelp
Here we are back visiting family in St Paul and staying at the hotel for our second time. Everything is perfect here. The front desk lady going all the way outside with us to give directions to dinner location we asked about. Breakfast via room service on Sunday morning was so good with beautiful presentation. We waited just 15 minutes. Enjoyed the little park across street. Library, Sbux & Thai

Yelp
These people are pros, from the front desk to valet to room service. Not only are they kind and professional, but they are happy to help sort out any issues that might arise during your stay. The ambiance of this hotel is warm, inviting, and slightly historical. Don't worry, it's also been modernized over the years! This is definitely my go-to destination in St. Paul.

Yelp
This hotel has the old hotel feel without the old hotel amenities. This is a nice historic hotel that has preserved all of the good things about being a classic hotel while keeping up with modern amenities. From the door man in a top hat to the winding staircases, it's a beautiful place. The room could use a few more outlets but no complaints otherwise. The beds are very comfortable and I would recommend the breakfast quesadilla in the restaurant.

Yelp
I had a nice stay had booked my room through Expedia for a concert at the Xcel. Parking can be expensive but it is anywhere. Walking distance is short with several nearby dining options. Nice Aveda products bedding very comfortable and I enjoyed my stay at this historic setting.

Yelp
Loved this hotel. Staff was great. Junior suite was great with an amazing view of the town. Look forward to staying again when in town.

Yelp
We stopped by for a quick drink at @saintpaulhotel and we truly enjoyed the cocktails that the bartender whipped up for us! Walking in, you will be amazed by the beauty of the hotel and the architecture! We had a Negroni and a chocolate drink and they were both really solid, good drinks! Definitely on the expensive side for regular cocktails thou! Their food menu looks great and we can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Made a stop tonight at the saint paul hotel. This place has always been a favorite of mine because of the large whiskey collection. The staff was extremely professional and everyone seemed happy to help. I sipped on a few glasses of pinot and for appetizers I had the shrimp and those were amazing. The flavor was great and they were cooked to perfection. Also had rhe Cajun beef tips and omg they were nice juicey and tender. Our server Cassie was on top of everything and made sure we were taken care of things promptly.

Yelp
I attended a small conference at the St. Paul Hotel. First, it's gorgeous! Second, the staff was friendly and helpful, including Brian at the front desk, James the bartender, and a special shout out to Marty who gave us so many great recommendations and entertained us with stories about the hotel! (I've been sworn to secrecy haha!) Rooms were great. Food & drinks are a little pricey, but that's to be expected. Lots of dining within walking distance--starbucks is half a block away. Can't wait to come back next year!

Yelp
Stay here!!!! You won't regret it!! One of the cutest hotels and has so much character. Even the bell hops outfit shout classic, timeless, and fun. They have a really awesome bar in here that makes fabulous espresso martinis and the bartender was awesome. Rooms were clean and beds were comfy. I got great sleep while staying here. Staff at front desk was friendly and helpful. Only downfall was that I only got to stay here one night. I'll be back!

Yelp
Afternoon Tea - Just Sweets I took someone to Afternoon Tea for their birthday in February. First let me say the servers were excellent! Everything else only meh. The description when I booked, and in the email confirmation, said "This two-hour event is fashioned after England's afternoon tea and consists of a variety of tea sandwiches, savory, scone and two tiers of sweets." However we were served the Chocolate Lover's Tea... NO SANDWICHES & anything savory was covered with chocolate. Luckily the birthday girl has a serious sweet tooth. Unfortunately, a meal of sugar made me ill & hangry. Also our table was closest to the door, so it was cold. The chairs were uncomfortable, especially for a 2 hour event (wingbacks would at least give some protection from the breeze). Also my view was of a wall & the back of an easel a foot away from our table. Not posh at all. I would have maybe understood had we been a last minute reservation, but we booked a month ahead & I made sure that more tickets were available in case our friends wanted to join us. We won't be rushing back anytime soon. didn't take a picture of the first course, but it consisted of a quarter sized mousse, 1/4 piece of "toast", and 3 small potato chips.

Yelp
This place was great! Service was wonderful! The valets were particular on unloading your car and taking care of the rolling cart. The hotel staff were friendly. Nice to check in on a Sunday with live piano in the lobby. Room was on the smaller side but was still very nice. Very clean and comfortable. Keurig coffee with plenty of selections and your own mini bar if you so choose. Very quiet hotel. Great location . We will stay again.

Yelp
Don't be revealed by history. We thought that the whole experience would be amazing from our past experiences. The restaurant and bar closed at 11pm. On a Friday night? There were many patrons disappointed as well. We all thought that we were over the Covid??

Yelp
My wife celebrated a 40th wedding anniversary at the Saint Paul hotel, and we were both extremely impressed with the entire presentation. From the lounge to the front desk to the doormen, it was top-notch, and some of the best service that we have ever received. (And we have traveled all over the world!) It is truly an elegant and extremely well run hotel, and we would recommend it 10 stars!

Yelp
I stayed here in March 2020. Society was seizing up and hiding from itself to save itself, and at just that time I found myself with the awkward need to be out of my house for the weekend. So while this review may have an odd tint to it, I can still very happily report on how comfortable the accommodations were and how well I was treated. I upgraded to a room with a single king sized bed, and I'm struggling to adequately convey just how incredibly comfortable it was. It was just heaven to be relaxing in bed in my room. And since I was just holed up in there for most of my weekend, I also enjoyed sitting in the surprisingly comfortable armchair by the window for quite a while. I ordered room service and got a lot of really good food. I had a pesto chicken pasta that was really delicious, a very tasty wild rice soup, and some more-elegant-than-it-sounds cheese fries. It was great, but the pricing was consistent with the overall level of luxury. So just make sure to keep an eye on that. There were also a bunch of fancy items available from the minibar, but I had unwittingly booked a package that included a $15 minibar credit. I snacked on the chocolate-toffee-pistachio things and they were great! For most people, a big draw of staying at this hotel is the classy ambiance, and it really delivers that. They opened the hotel in 1910, but extensively remodeled the rooms in the 1980s. You kind of get the best of both worlds, because it's got all the atmosphere of its turn-of-the-century origins but it's in great shape. The location on Rice Park makes for great views and quick walks to the Ordway, the Science Museum, and all the great Downtown businesses, every single one of which was closed during my visit. You can also expect to be treated with maximum courtesy, as I was during my stay. I may have come during a time of tumult, but I came for luxury and that's what I got!

Yelp
Our stay at St Paul Hotel was amazing! From the moment we dropped our car off for valet to checking in and enjoying the amenities even to the minute we checked out, everything was absolutely brilliant. We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is conveniently located only a couple of blocks away from the Xcel Energy Center and less than a mile away from fantastic restaurants. In fact, there is even a lovely, upscale restaurant within the hotel (see separate review). Speaking of, we wanted to dine there on our first night but the only open availability was at 8:30 which would have been rather late for me. Upon check-in, we had expressed our interest in dining at the St Paul Grill that evening but wasn't sure how busy they would be. The host graciously offered to check for us while we settle in as the concierge was unavailable at the moment. He promised to do so immediately and give us a call back with an update. Not half an hour later, he attentively informed us of the remaining availabilities for the evening which sadly did not work out but we truly did appreciate the effort. The lobby was quite exquisitely decorated with a piano and a seating area which we learned later was used for events. There was a tea party on Saturday evening with very dressy patrons attending. There is also a small lounge/bar within the hotel. We stopped by and had a couple of cocktails before heading back to our room after dinner one evening. The bartender was friendly and did well with the cocktails! The room itself was nice. It had most of the essentials and stocked with a few adult beverage options and snacks you might want to enjoy during your stay. Of course, for a price but certainly convenient! They do provide you with some comfortable robes as well for lounging. You can also order breakfast for delivery at a time of your choosing. We ordered breakfast and enjoyed it in our room. It was quite nice. Valet service was great. We decided to explore and do some touristy things while there and got our car in no time. When we got back, they attentively valet parked the car once more without waiting too long. Everyone was friendly and very helpful! If I find myself in St Paul again, I would definitely not hesitate staying here. It is definitely a luxurious hotel with wonderful service.

Yelp
I think it's one of the most elegant and oldest hotel in St Paul. It's very close to Mississippi River, and right next to a beautiful park surrounded by nice historical looking buildings. Check in was easy. There are two elevators and they were fast. Room was modern and clean. TV had good channels. Free internet actually worked okay. There was a coffee maker and it worked fine. They have drinking-water, alcohol and snacks for a free (water was $6). They only provide room cleaning if you request it otherwise they do not. I tried their restaurant, food was good and service was friendly. There was hair dryer and ironing in room. Bed was comfy. I liked the armchair and ottoman facing the TV. Air conditioning worked very well. There are toiletries in bathroom. From outside it looked hotel is connected to skywalks but I did not try it. There is gym on 12th floor and it has basic gym equipment. They have taxi waiting at the main door. For Uber and Lyft, you need to walk outside to main front street.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this hotel. I would not return. There is no pool or hot tub. The TV in our room did not work, which was very inconvenient.

Yelp
Ok. So we just stayed the night and didn't get to dine as we had other plans but we had just the nicest experience, Drew at the front desk was just amazing. Pleasant and welcoming , WH hi h you would think would be a "give me" in the hotel business. This guy, he's the real deal professional! The rooms are smaller and decorated a little old fashioned , but that's the whole point. Clean as a whistle too. The bathroom wax updated and very cozy. The hot water was amazing and the shower head while not super fancy, it h Just felt so good! The real stand out for us was the valet! These guys (didn't see any gals) were Johnny on the spot and super nice! We've been traveling this past year a bit and this was by far the best valet we've had. And that's is meaningful. The grounds were beautiful. Fresh flowers in the lobby. Just a nice night. Thank you

Yelp
Review #15 - We went on a one night staycation for a change of scenery from Minneapolis. We walked around downtown St Paul, window shopping, checking out the beautiful park system and etc. made for a fun day! Although no restaurants were allowed to open for dine in at the time we were there, the takeout options were sufficient. We had a great pizza from Cosettas, but you can order Sushi from Sakura, Thai from Ruam MIT Thai or Mexican from Pajarito and they are all within walking distance from the hotel. There are also lots of park options in the area so you could definitely find an empty bench close by and chow down on your food. Drew was at the hotel front desk most of the time during our stay and we were happy chatting with him. The hotel was super quiet with only about 10% occupancy, so that explains why we didn't see other hotel guests during our stay. We were so happy and honored to finally experience a stay at this historical hotel.

Yelp
After being home for 100 days, we were in dire need of a staycation over the 4th of July weekend. It was very quiet - as expected. The restaurants were closed and room service was only available from 8am-7pm. That was the most irritating part for us since we tend to eat dinner later. But we made it work! The room service was delicious and was delivered promptly. No complaints from me. Was a little bummed that the St. Paul Grill was open. From our room, we were able to enjoy multiple fireworks shows. Overall, it was a nice, relaxing weekend!

Yelp
I stayed here during the pandemic. I was nervous but they seemed extremely careful. There was only one guy working the front desk but I don't think there were very many people staying here. In fact I didn't see any other guests. I got a really good deal on a room. Normally I could not afford this place. The room was gorgeous. It was clean and comfortable. I had a nice view from the 8th floor. I ordered room service, which I never do, but the restaurant was not open for dining in. Dinner was wonderful! I slept well and kinda hated to leave.

Yelp
We spent three days here during our daughter's wedding weekend recently. All we had was positive, great service throughout our visit - from the moment we got out of our car out front, to check in, during our stay, and check out. We had to check our car in and out multiple times during our stay. Valet staff was friendly, quick and conscientious, no matter the time of day or night. Before long, I was greeted with, "The white GMC, right?" Front desk personnel were always friendly and available. We were amazed how they could do so much so well with what seemed to be a small number of people. Thank you! Front desk person Drew recommended a great place to eat nearby which we ended up visiting twice (that will have to be another review). Rooms are not automatically cleaned every day unless requested. Since this was communicated clearly up front, it was fine. One day we had room cleaned, the other not. No on-site restaurant operating currently, so we cannot evaluate the food. They had an evening bar open Friday and Saturday but due to wedding activities, we did not stop by there. Check out was fine. Since we were paying for a number of rooms, we wanted to make sure everything was correct. Only one wayward parking charge, which they quickly removed after we noticed it. We do not travel a lot, but staying here added to the calm we needed during our busy wedding weekend. Thank you

Yelp
We stayed here for a conference recently, choosing this location because of its interesting appearance, history, and location. The price was comparable to other hotels in the area, and it's nicely situated near several decent restaurants. The service was good, and the inside was really nice to see. It's in a much nicer location than most neighboring hotels, situated right next to a nice park. The reason for the reduction in stars is the room: my sheets smelled damp and had an odor like they had sat in the washer for too long before being dried, which basically invaded my clothes and the room-- everything smelled like it. The shower curtain had red spots along the bottom edge (bacteria culture, possibly serratia marcescens?), a brownish handprint, and clearly hadn't been washed or bleached in a while. The toilet would sometimes get stuck, and I would have to wiggle the handle then hold it down to get it to flush-- sometimes it ran/made dripping noises all night and I had to close the door to get some sleep. I was also disappointed that the restaurant doesn't serve breakfast, and you can only order it through room service (though, it was pretty amazing-- everything was delicious!). I think I would consider returning at a later date, because it's a nice hotel in a nice area, but hope that they fix these particular problems so others don't have to run into them.

Yelp
Though this in an old hotel, that only serves as to why it is a great hotel. This is the place we call home when in St. Paul. The rooms are like home, with clean well done bathrooms. Beds are perfect and linens are top self. Walk to dinner, theatre, museums etc.

Yelp
be weary when booking a room at this hotel. i was on a site that i clearly thought was thier web site. booked a room, stayed in the room but when time to get a copy of my bill they said they could not help. their website was hijcaked by a company called reeservationstays.com. Good luck trying to get anything from them. before you insinuate that is should know better i have spent 14 years of my life in a hotel room (99% booked by me) so i was clearly duped by reservationstays.com and the Saint Paul is wiping thier hands of it. no "mea culpa's" here. now i have to figure out how to get reimbursed by my company with no copy of the bill. (my company does not accept CC statements) VERY FRUSTRATING

Yelp
Came here for the high tea on my birthday. It was a great experience. The tea was delicious and the food was very tasty. The hotel atmosphere is wonderful and fun to be in. The staff was awesome and always made sure we had everything we needed. Will come back again!

Yelp
It looks nice, and the rooms are ok. It prides itself on the history, which is understandable. It's odd that ass busy as it is, the bar closed early both nights I was there. I'm talking 9pm. My room wouldn't get below 73 degrees, and there's nowhere to get a Coke. No vending or market anywhere. The place is beautiful, but if you want a cocktail later than 9pm, and or a coke, good luck. The bartender even told me she's closing at 9 because she's tired, and that's how it works.

Yelp
Lovely stay at the Saint Paul, but I knocked off a star for several inconveniences. First, the only parking available for guests is valet which is approx $25/day. If you choose to cab from the airport (instead of renting a car), the hotel does not offer any airport shuttle. Minor but annoying inconveniences that warrant a star off an otherwise amazing stay. As for wedding venues, I must say the Hotel is absolutely stunning. Plenty of space and beautiful. Appreciate the ability to obtain a hotel block and the free wifi. For a short weekend wedding stay, this New Yorker thinks the Saint Paul Hotel is a great choice amongst the Twin Cities.

Yelp
The St. Paul is a nice, well decorated, comfortable hotel that was recommended to me by a colleague. There is a very weird stuffed bear in the room (see pic) for purchase for 20 bucks. The room was clean but I saw some stray long hairs (I have little hair remaining) in the bath room. The staff is helpful and friendly. There are some problems with the room that I would not expect in a hotel this expensive. First, insufficient electrical outlets. Second, the HVAC does nothing but blow cold air. I had to shut it off. In winter this would have been a problem instead of just annoying. Third, the towels are about as comfortable as drying oneself with sand paper. These issues need to be resolved.

Yelp
I haven't eaten since yesterday thanks to the Easter Brunch at the St. Paul Hotel. What a great experience! Brunch was in the Promenade Ballroom and featured 6 distinct food stations, beautiful table settings, and a talented pianist strumming a grand piano. For $49 per person ($19 for ages 4-10), I could choose from fresh fruits and salads, seafood on ice, chef carved prime rib or honey ham, made to order omelets, and more. Adult beverages are offered at an additional cost. The seating was well managed, Staff was amazing. Food coma is just wearing off. We plan to return for the Mother's Day Brunch on Sunday, May 14. Reserve a seating time between 9:30 am and 2:00 pm to experience this lavish affair and go HUNGRY!

Yelp
If you can't get a comfortable night's rest at a hotel, then everything else it offers is irrelevant. This hotel is highly overrated. It is a two star hotel pretendimg to be a 4 star by occupying a building and location that should be 4 star. Yes, the building is pretty and the location is great. But when our room temperature rose to 85 degrees, the staff told us that because this was an historic building the air conditioning only heats, it does not cool (ridiculous, but demonstrated by the boiling temperature of our room). Their solution was to open our window and use the thermostat to balance the 34 degree night air. This brilliant strategy had two problems. First our temperature see-sawed between frigid and boiling. Second, we had to keep our curtains open, so we were able to "enjoy" the spotlight they keep pointed at the historic exterior all night long. We would have gotten a better night's rest at a cheap chain. Upon checking out, they attempted to charge us for mini bar charges we had not incurred. It took 20 minutes for the inept staff to cancel it. When I discussed our problems with the manager, their only solution was to offer to cancel the remainder of my stay and not charge us a cancellation fee, as though that were doing us a favor. I also learned from the manager that if you book a room through an online service you will be given a substandard room.

Yelp
The doorman wears a Top Hat. They offer a five course, two hour Afternoon Tea. The guest rooms have a K-Cup Machine You hear classical music in the lobby. The lobby is beautiful, with opulent chandeliers, a faux finish tray ceiling, and gold elevators. Get the picture? Luxury, elegance, first rate everything. My room was very comfortable, had a nice work desk, free wi-fi, nice TV with HBO, a good sized bathroom where the shower had good pressure and temperature. The towels were plush, and so was the bathrobe. You get a newspaper at your door every day. A real St. Paul newspaper, not a USA Today. It's in the heart of downtown, between Rice Park and the Travelers building. Easy walking distance to the Xcel Energy Center and a dozen or so restaurants.

Yelp
Such a beautiful hotel with great service! In fact, I proposed to my wife here 10 years ago. Stopped in the other day and they were welcoming as ever! The hotel staff did such an outstanding job making it an amazing evening! Best hotel in the Twin Cities!

Yelp
Very cool hotel in downtown St. Paul. I stayed at the Saint Paul for 4 nights for a wedding in August of 2017. I had room 626, a Landmark King. It apparently is larger than the regular rooms, includes a large 4 post king sized bed (see photograph), a small siting area, and a work station. The bathroom was not large, but this is an older hotel and that is to be expected. I never had any issues with hot/cold water and the house cleaning staff was friendly. Valet parking is $25 a day I believe, which may seem high. Given the hotel's location, I think that's very reasonable, because parking is a premium in downtown St. Paul. The thermostat in the room controlled the temperature well and I was actually able to get it cold enough for me to be comfortable. The windows also open a couple of inches which was nice to get some fresh air in the room. The hotel offers free wi-fi, but I paid for the faster speed so I would be able to stream TV shows and movies. The quicker internet was great and I did not have issues with it. The Saint Paul Grill is a great place located in the hotel for either a meal or to have a drink. I also had breakfast at the M Street Cafe which was good, but not as good as the Grill. Everyone was very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Employees provided directions and offered local suggestions as well. The room service crew made me an item that was off menu and couldn't have been nicer about it. Additionally, I know that one employee helped a member of the wedding party put on his boutonniere, so clearly the staff at the Saint Paul are willing to go above and beyond for their guests. The hotel is centrally located in downtown St. Paul and was within walking distance of a lot of restaurants. You could stay here and never leave a 2 mile radius and have a great trip. The Mississippi River was only about 2 or 3 blocks away, so I walked down there one day. Were I to return to St. Paul, the first place I will look for lodging will be the Saint Paul Hotel.

Yelp
Luxury at its finest! Want to be treated like a king/queen, stay here. The room was cozy, warm and comfortable.

Yelp
As someone who travels a lot it's always nice to stay outside of the chain hotels at a place that has a bit of character. This hotel has just that. Checking in was a breeze and Shane at the front desk was a doll. The rooms are perfect. I had a nice king bed. Chair with ottoman and a desk in the room. A nice embroidered pillow as well. Also ... bathrobes (my favorite). The fitness center also has some extra bells and whistles which is nice - a few extra weight machines and such. Beautiful hotel that I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
We had such a great time at the St. Paul Hotel! My husband and I got married here on January 6th, 2018 and it was perfect. The staff were so kind and thoughtful. Mary Jo, the event coordinator, was so easy to work with throughout the process of planning our wedding. She answered my emails and calls in a timely manner. She made sure that everything ran smoothly. She even made sure my dress looked perfect right before I went down the aisle. We had the rehearsal dinner at the St. Paul Grill and then brunch at the M Street Cafe the day after the wedding. The food was excellent and service was wonderful. The two restaurants are very different from each other, which is nice because it gives you a variety of meal options, without having to leave the hotel. We chose the St. Paul Hotel for our wedding because of the excellent service and food. We weren't disappointed and our guests were very impressed. The valet staff were very kind and accommodating. I know for some the $25/ a day seems like a lot. However, the other parking ramps cost around $20/ a day, so it's not that big of a difference, especially when you can come and go as you please. We also really enjoyed not having to walk to our vehicles in the frigid 13 degree weather. The only thing I would recommend is if you have to be somewhere on Sunday, check-out early from your room. This hotel sells out almost every weekend and a lot of wedding guests wait to the last minute to check-out which creates a traffic jam for the valets.

Yelp
I was looking forward to returning home to attend a wedding and booked two nights in the wedding block at SPH back in July for September 20-22. When I called from the airport the night of travel to tell them our flight had been delayed a few hours and we would have a late arrival, I learned I didn't have a room the night of the wedding. Just the night before. They were not in the least helpful on arrival (midnight). Full disclosure, I did not look at my confirmation email so my mistake, but the wedding was Saturday night and the block was Saturday night a bit confused on how that happened. We had an equally disappointing meal at the Grill. My husband's hamburger ordered medium rare was charred and black/brown throughout and the bacon for my wedge (large dice) was like dried out hockey pucks. Manager apologized but that's it. Too many places to stay. You can't fall back on your reputation. We had to switch hotels midday and were not allowed a late checkout. We had to get ready in a restroom for a 3:30 formal wedding. So disappointed.

Yelp
The staff was wonderful and I was very impressed with the accommodations. As someone who often deals with allergy symptoms when staying in hotels, I was a little nervous about how much carpeting there was here, but I had no issues. My room was spotless. I hope to stay here again for future business trips.

Yelp
We stayed at the hotel on a recent Friday night. It is a nice hotel to stay in if you can get a view at holiday time of Rice Park due to all the lights. There is also free, but non-secured wifi. There was only one person working check-in so we were unnecessarily delayed. Not totally their fault, some clod didn't understand that you can't get a key for someone else's room if they haven't checked in first or aren't present to approve said key being given out. Safety deal. The room was small but clean and cozy. It was a bit chilly as others have noted. The room was bright due to the external lighting as others have noted. But what got me was the valet parking charge that was added to our bill, as others have noted. I asked how that happened and they said when they have an unassigned valet, the "guess" on which room to put it on. Really? Lastly - at the event we were at for the evening, the "Snow Ball," about halfway through the evening the drink prices went up by a buck. Really?

Yelp
Very nice hotel. The Saint Paul is close to everything and a excellent choice to stay at if you are in town for a performance at the Ordway or the other venues nearby. Good service from the staff. Room was very clean, very large, very quiet and well appointed. I would give it 5 stars if they would do a remodel and update it with fixtures more toward the original time period of the place, instead of the 1970's or 1980's materials and fixtures there now. BTW - They have an Afternoon Tea service during specific dates that you can find at https://www.saintpaulhotel.com/happenings, which looked really fun and something to possibly check out in the future. Definitely look forward to staying here again.

Yelp
To find out your staff is killing pigeons inhumanely is deeply troubling. Shame on you, St. Paul Hotel. Do better and be better. When there's a follow-up story about how this has been changed and handled, I will be sure to recognize. Until then, we won't be stopping in.

Yelp
What a gorgeous place!!! Immaculately kept, this historical hotel takes you back to a time when fancy was elegant but not overstated. My room is very comfortable and has a good city view. Room service is exceptional and so is the food! They know your name, room number and on my second day ordering in they knew my prior order! I'm here for work but would come back to explore the city and I can't think of a better place to stay. Oh! And the mini bar......nothing mini about it! Jameson, Prairie vodka and gin in 375 ml bottles, that's a lot more than just a nip! Cookies, mixed nuts and chocolates. Why would you leave your room? Seriously if you get the chance stay here. It's a fantastic experience.

Yelp
My review is for my son's wedding reception held here. Everyone on the hotel staff we encountered was friendly, considerate, and helpful. Happy hour before dinner was in a beautiful room that accommodated 150 guests comfortably. We were served a full dinner with wine and the usual choice of three entrees. I was prepared for typical wedding food--chicken breast with goopy sauce, tiny slice of salmon, and some kind of pasta. But the food they served was outstanding, something I would have been happy to eat at any fine restaurant. My salmon fillet was a substantial portion served on a bed of perfectly-cooked risotto (I'm married to a born-in-Italy risotto snob who rarely orders it at restaurants because so few make it correctly, and he agreed that the risotto was killer.) The meal was accompanied by an interesting take on Caesar salad: half a heart of romaine lettuce atop Caesar dressing, with Parmesan shavings and a thin slice of grilled Italian bread. It was visually novel and also really tasty. They also offered chicken nuggets with fries and a fruit cup for kids in attendance. We had plenty of room to dance and after dinner the happy hour room just outside the ballroom was set up with a cash bar and plenty of ice water. It was a cool, quiet retreat from the noise of the main room where guests could have a conversation without having to shout over the music. The next morning we joined others from the wedding party for breakfast. My husband and I shared the pecan-sweet potato waffle and the banana French toast. Both were delicious but I agree with another reviewer that there was a bit of banana overkill on the French toast. Bonus: both were served with REAL maple syrup. It was good enough that I would come here again just for breakfast.

Yelp
This is a great hotel, centrally located. After dinner tonight I may amend my review. But as I write this I sit in the lobby, having been gone all day visiting family. It's 5:10 p.m. I left at 11:00 a.m. I returned to my room to find house-keeping still cleaning the room. I'd like to lie down and take a nap, before my next engagement. I'd like to use the bathroom. I wasn't going to write this review but I asked the concierge if he could do anything to speed the process - you know, maybe I could get a complimentary drink or .... even an apology. He informed me, however, that I was perfectly free to go back to my room and share it with housekeeping staff. Look - I get it. This is hard work, flipping rooms and dealing with guests. But I've been gone six hours and I'm paying $260/day, plus parking and tax so probably closer to $300/day. You would think that they'd have the rooms clean and, barring that, that they would at least apologize for the inconvenience. So - anyway. Great place. Well appointed. Lovely bed. Centrally located. But I could have been staying off the highway, closer to the airport, and wouldn't have to wait to lie down on my bed. They should do better, given where they position themselves in the market. I haven't even gotten an apology. Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees.

Yelp
I don't give out 5 stars very often but I love this place. I've stayed before and love it every time. For $189 I'd rather have this experience of comfort and cleanliness than somewhere for $149. The food, even room service, is top notch. Have a drink at the bar and eat at the grille...you'll never stay anywhere else. Wonderful and attentive staff as well.

Yelp
Very nice bar and lobby area. Bartenders were super nice and attentive. Nice place to hang out
