AN EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTING AND FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE.
I wanted to book a massage for my birthday to relax and treat myself. As you all know, the massages at the Post Oak Spa are quite expensive, so you'd expect that the service you receive would be on par with the pricing.
I booked a 90 minute deep tissue massage. I receive these types of massages often so I am accustomed to being worked on with deeper pressure. However, the technician working on me used some type of technique that yielded in a significant amount of pain, so much so that I did not allow her to finish the treatment. Once I laid on my back, I felt a radiating pain throughout my back as if I had a pinched nerve. Instead of finishing the massage, I asked her if she could try to help alleviate the pain.
She attempted to alleviate the pain she caused with cold stones, an ice pack, and later some ibuprofen. She openly admitted that I was experiencing pain and discomfort to the locker room attendant, a pain that I got during the massage. Later, someone else visited me in the locker room to take my statement on what had occurred. Everyone had profusely apologized, which did make me feel acknowledged but the apology didn't take away the pain or the $450 massage bill.
I could not sleep that night due to the pain I was in. Days later, my back was still tight and uncomfortable. I had been needing to start or end my day with Tylenol. It took about a full week for the pain to go away. This is a pain acquired at the spa during this massage as I did not have it prior to the massage. As you can understand, the whole point of a massage is to feel relaxed afterwards, not more tense or uncomfortable.
Truthfully, I should have refused payment at the time of service but I was extremely frustrated and did not want to take out my frustrations at the front desk staff. Additionally, I was rushing to get to my son's football game and needing to finish getting ready. I did tip the masseuse as she was very apologetic and obviously did not hurt me on purpose, but adding a tip to a service that caused me pain did frustrate me even further.
I tried to have this dispute rectified offline, but SEVERAL emails went ignored. I was promised a call back to discuss the situation and I did not receive a second call. After several attempts to reach someone, I was finally told that they "did an investigation" and found themselves to be NOT negligent.
Not negligent? Then why did my massage end early? Why was I treated with cold stones, ice, and pills? Why was I asked to write down a statement? Why was I in pain for a week? They denied ANY responsibility and clearly didn't review the facts of that day.
They made ZERO attempts to rectify this in any way. I would have been fine with even a partial refund. I paid several hundreds of dollars to be injured, disappointed, and even more stressed than when I walked. I will absolutely NEVER EVER be coming back and will be telling everyone else I know to go elsewhere.
