My partner and I had dinner here last Friday, and loved it! Thanks to our awesome hostess Dani (spelling?), who gave us the absolute hook-up with the menu recommendations, our meal was impeccable! Also the ambiance of the restaurant was so good ~ super welcoming of ppl of all types, and had a slightly more diverse crowd too.
Yes as people mentioned, the portions are on the smaller side, but I'd say with restaurants that really care about quality ingredients tend to have smaller portions, so the key then is to get really solid recs and figure out which dishes they really knock it put of the park with, to make it worth your $$.
From my first sip of her recommended '21 Maroni Niña rosé, I was so happy. I may have found my favorite rosé~ it had the best slightly tart and oak barrel layers in the lingering aftertaste! The hubby got the vermouth aperitif, which he felt was too light flavor-wise overall, but I loved my drink.
We got the following dishes to share. I wish I took photos but it was dark and the lighting was bad. Next time!
-steamed PEI mussels w/ garlic, white wine, chili, guanciale, oregano, focaccia toast 20
-chilled yellow corn custard w/ shaved zucchini, parmesan, crumbled bacon, basil, chili oil 16
-di stefano burrata w/ grilled peaches, spicy greens, herb oil, red bird baguette 16
ricotta
-spiced lamb meatballs w/ tomato sauce, feta, mint 18
The steamed mussels with guanciale broth was out ofthisworld. 10/10 and I generally am not a fan of steamed mussels, but Dani spoke so highly of the guanciale broth we just needed to try them. It had a homey but complex flavor profile, it was sooo good. Hands down best dish. The bread served with it was super soft and nicely grilled, perfect for mopping up every last drop of the broth.
The mussels were really good paired with the corn custard, which I'd give a 8/10. It was kind of like a flan texture, very delicate and refreshing with the thinly sliced zucchini and corn bits on top. The serving size looks small but it's pretty rich so I think it's best shared.
The burrata with grilled peach was yummy, burrata was fresh, peaches were ripe, pretty solid overall. Didn't knock me off my socks as much as other variations of burrata I've tried before, but we were still happy with it. I'd give a 7.5/10.
The lamb meatballs were good, but prob the least favorite on the list, mainly due to the texture and sauce. The tomato sauce somehow felt too close to a marinara you could buy from a store, and kind of overpowered the flavor of the lamb. Also, this is slightly picky of me but I'm a texture person and the outside of the meatballs just felt a little too soggy for me sitting in so much sauce. But this could just be biased, but we'd had the Grilled Lamb Meatballs from Bird&the Bottle and that dish had blown us away, so we our expectations were probably influenced by that. Anyway, I'd give a 6/10.
Last but surely not least, we got the Ice Cream Sundae (which is a recent add to the menu), which was the literal dream cherry on top. First of all~ I'm not really an ice cream sundae person. I wouldn't have gotten this outside or again, Dani's awesome recommendations. Typically the sundaes just feel overly sweet and the whole fudge toppings situation just makes the ice cream melt and become a textural mess imo.
But yoooooooo this ice cream is next level. 11/10 in my book. I think they get it directly from a creamery, not sure if it was Nimble and Finn? The raspberry ice cream texture is out of control. peach compote on top? and then the dollop of cream paired with it tasted so fresh and homemade. They told us every time they restock on this desert it sells out within the same day. !!!
All in all, it's gonna be hard not spending all my money here being a regular. Highly recommend!
