I really wanted to like this place it gave me that classic Maxwell Street vibe at first glance, so I pulled up expecting a good old school Maxwell Street Polish, which apparently are non-existent at this restaurant. I then moved on to a fish sandwich and some nostalgia. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. The fish sandwich was a very thin slice of something that didn’t really taste like fish. The onion rings, on the other hand, were the best part, crispy, golden, and actually delicious.
The prices, though, don’t match the portions or the quality. For what you get, it’s way overpriced. AND, while I was waiting outside for about ten minutes reading the menu, I presumed it was a walk up stand, since there’s no clear direction on how to order. When I finally went to the counter, an older lady came around the corner and told me I had to go back to my car and she would come take my order there. It would’ve been nice to know that the minutes earlier. She did not however come to my car immediately. She did however tend to an individual who pulled up after me first. Which i did not appreciate.
Also, heads-up: it’s cash only. No cards, no tap-to-pay, nothing plastic. Overall, between the confusion, the price, and the disappointing fish sandwich, this experience just missed the mark. The onion rings might have saved it from zero stars but let’s just say, this “Spot” wasn’t the bright spot I was hoping for.
