In business since 1966, this cash-only gay bar hosts events like drag shows, karaoke & more.
"After a long and dark four-year closure, The Stud has laid down new roots in SoMa. Open since 1966, The Stud is one of San Francisco’s oldest queer bars, so naturally, it has a big reputation to uphold. And we’re happy to report it’s just as fun as it used to be. A night here is still full of go-go dancers, twerk contests, and a whole lot of love. This new Folsom St. location (just a few blocks from the old spot), retains a lot of its previous charm with some of the original signage, floating clouds, and the strong well drinks it was known for. Now, The Stud also has a patio and a lot more space. Open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, make sure to check their website to find the best dance parties, drag shows, and community-specific Happy Hours around." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong, lani conway
"Notably in its last year in this historic location before moving elsewhere, the venerable Stud will be hosting a series of parties all week, beginning with Kosmetik Pride on Wednesday night, followed by a party for lesbian “femmes” from the Haus of Hoe called Fatal Femmes on Thursday, a gay affair from the Pound Puppy crew on Friday, Luv 4 Luv featuring DJs and live performances on Saturday, and an all-day Pride Sunday party starting at 2 p.m. with drag performances and a half-dozen DJs. Check the place out while you still can, especially if you’ve never been or haven’t been in a while, and soak in this piece of SF gay history." - Jay C. Barmann

And we’re happy to report that a night here is still full of go-go dancers, twerk contests, and a whole lot of love. After a four-year closure, they’ve reopened in a SoMa location still somehow feels old school, even if it’s much bigger and has a back patio now. Some of the old signs have returned, and overall, it’s a kitschy mess—just as it should be. They’re open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so make sure to check their website to find the best dance parties, drag shows, and community-specific Happy Hours around." - ricky rodriguez, peter astrid kane

"The Stud, a beloved queer bar, is making a comeback at its new location on Folsom Street. The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, and the bar has received its necessary permits and licenses. The collective behind the reopening is organizing a fundraiser and seeking volunteers to assist with the move." - Dianne de Guzman
