The Taco Stand Pairing With Tokyo-Style Bar on Convoy - Eater San Diego

"Following outposts in North Park, La Jolla, and Encinitas, The Taco Stand is heading to Kearny Mesa where it will join the busy Convoy Street plaza that also holds Crab Hut, RakiRaki Ramen, and O’Brien’s Pub. The Tijuana-inspired Mexican spot is replacing Cauldron Ice Cream, the OC transplant that opened last May. Slated to open in early 2021, this Taco Stand location will be primarily grab-and-go, with a food counter and some standing room." - Candice Woo

A New Taco Shop Debuts in Wynwood Featuring a ‘Hidden’ Omakase Restaurant  - Eater Miami

"Popular California taco restaurant The Taco Stand debuts in Wynwood today at 313 NW 25th Street, complete with a hidden omakase-style restaurant, aptly named Hiden. This marks the first East coast location for the mini-chain, which opened up its first shop in San Diego in 2013. The menu – available for sit-down meals and take-out – is the brainchild of Julian Hakim and Aram Baloyan, and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. On the menu expect dishes like tacos, burritos, quesadillas, carne asada fries, along with paletas, churros, and imported beers and Mexican sodas. The 1,700 square-foot, 45-seat restaurant features a custom mural by Cuban artist Rigo Leon, a large open kitchen that showcases the tortilla production and a traditional vertical spit roasting pork." - Olee Fowler

I recently visited The Taco Stand and had the pleasure of trying their pastor tacos with cheese. They were fantastic! The meat was perfectly seasoned, and the addition of cheese added a delightful richness to each bite. The flavors were well-balanced, and the tacos were both satisfying and delicious. The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming. I highly recommend The Taco Stand, you won't be disappointed!

Google
I give The Taco Stand ~4.5/5 stars. They’ve certainly got great service, though I’m not gonna pretend their food reaches the echelons of Ed Fernandez Birria in Imperial Beach or Tacos El Ruso in Tijuana. That said, it’s definitely pretty good, just kind of way too overhyped by San Diego college students. The al pastor tacos and the California burritos are very solid here. They do a really good job with the meat and have a good consistency in terms of juiciness and flavor from item to item and day to day. The nopales is pretty good too! I love the habanero salsa as well. This particular location has a fairly small interior, so if you stop by on a weekend night you might not be able to sit, let alone get a meal very quickly. But they do their best to move the crowd in and out. Overall it’s a solid spot for Mexican food, though I think any real taco adventurers should be heading to spots like Ed Fernandez Birria, Taqueria Revolucion, Super Cocina, and Tacos La Chorreada.

The Taco Stand is a remarkable taco shop that sets itself apart not only with its exceptional food but also with its welcoming atmosphere. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with a warmth that feels both inviting and genuine, making it clear this place is special. The highlight for many, including myself, is their salsa bar. It offers an impressive variety of options, catering to every palate, from the mildest flavors to those that challenge even the most seasoned spice aficionados. This selection enhances the dining experience, allowing customers to customize their meals to their exact taste preferences. The burritos deserve a special mention. They are generously sized, packed with flavor, and expertly constructed. My girlfriend chose the Asada burrito, and it was a hit. The meat was tender and flavorful, wrapped in a soft tortilla with just the right amount of fillings to complement, but not overwhelm, the main ingredient. It was, without doubt, a dish that would make us return. For those with service dogs, The Taco Stand proves to be incredibly accommodating. My service dog was immediately made to feel welcome, with staff providing water and attention, ensuring he was comfortable and well-cared for throughout our visit. This level of attention to all guests, human and animal alike, is a testament to the establishment’s commitment to customer service. The Taco Stand offers a delightful dining experience. With its excellent food, particularly the standout burritos and salsa bar, along with its inclusive atmosphere, it’s a place that not only feeds the body but also the soul. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, it’s a spot that shouldn’t be missed.

Google
Amazing TJ style tacos. Absolutely delicious, great service and they were blasting Bad Bunny! The vibe was awesome...so happy I stumbled upon this location. Will definitely be returning.

Google
Absolutely incredible. This unassuming place is packed with flavor. The space is small, and the seating is limited. If you're able to snag a seat, the bustling vibe of the restaurant is quite immersive. We got the California burrito, Al Pastor and Baja tacos, and fries. All the protein options had a flavorful grilled taste. The slaws and vegetables added a refreshing cut through the meats. The sauce bar had a nice selection of salsas. Handmade tortillas are such a game changer. The flour tortillas used for the burritos had a soft and chewy stretch. 10/10 would recommend.

Google
I always love the taco stands shrimp tacos but today there was dirt or some kind of sludge in it. At first I thought maybe it was carne asada but it wasn’t. I was eating it and then kept feeling something grainy and nasty tasting. made me throw up and now I can’t eat the other three tacos because it’s in them too sadly.

Condiments are self serve, as well as drinks. Tacos are amazing. Their fish tacos are stunning, super flavorful and fresh.

Google
A Cozy Spot with Big Flavors! We recently visited this little gem while in town to see our son, and it's safe to say that it exceeded our expectations. The place, though small and always bustling with patrons, has a charm that's instantly welcoming. The highlight here is undoubtedly the food - a delightful surprise in every bite. The tacos, the stars of the menu, are nothing short of amazing. But what really sets them apart is the variety of salsas available. Each salsa offers a unique twist, elevating the flavors of the tacos to a whole new level. Whether you're a fan of spicy, tangy, or mild, there's a salsa for every palate. This eatery proves that great things indeed come in small packages. It's a must-visit for anyone looking for a casual yet memorable dining experience. Don't let the size fool you - the flavors here are huge!

Yelp
Hot take - in my personal opinion, this is the best overall Mexican taco shop in San Diego. The Sonora taco is the taco of my dreams. The carne asada fries are fire (probably won't be your favorite if nacho cheese isn't your thing) and only $10. Small hack - you can ask that they put CRISPY cheese on top of the fries. The fish tacos are bomb. Their burritos are PERFECT - the burritos aren't huge and are filled just right where you can taste every single flavor going on. Their churros are made fresh to order so need I say more. Everything is FRESH, the tortillas are delicious (freshly made to order), the meats are flavorful and cooked perfectly, the beans HIT (pinto), and their EXTENSIVE fresh salsa bar is fire. The best is that the prices are affordable. Oh, and their quesadillas and secret menu items are just as fire as everything else. The space is kind of tight, so I prefer to take my food togo. The key word in my hot take that this is the best taco shop is "overall." I do not think any one taco is the best in San Diego, but they're all up there. As a whole, this place is my favorite spot to eat Mexican food. In all honesty, the parking in this lot is terrible. For every 10 visits, I'll be blessed with a spot 1/10 times. I choose to park near the MTS bus loading era all the way down Opportunity Rd - the 6-8 minute walk is worth the trouble. You will easily wait 10-15 minutes for a spot while fighting for your life is you try to get a spot in the lot lmao. This place is the best of the best. One of the easiest 5/5 scores I've given.

Yelp
This place is a zoo! We already had dinner nearby but wanted to try their tacos. There were 7 of us, and we each got a taco to try. The wait was around 45 minutes to order and another 15 for pick up. There were no tables and the counters were packed solid, so we took our food home. From the walk to our car a few blocks away to driving for another 15 minutes, the tacos were soggy by the time we ate them. They were still really good though! I had the shrimp taco and loved it! I really enjoyed the fresh salsa! My brother wasn't kidding when he said they had the best salsa in town! Next time, we're just gonna sit alongside the curb and eat our tacos while they're hot! The fact that they tasted great over 30 minutes later tells you something! I can understand why this place is super packed.

Yelp
1st time was great! 2nd time the food was a bit cold... 3rd time, I found a hair that definitely did not belong to me

Yelp
This spot is FIRE!!! So good. Must get the shrimp, whether it's in a taco or burrito. Sauces are delicious and you service yourself. Churros are amazing as well, well worth $4.60 for 3. Parking can be a nightmare during peak hours as the parking lot can be packed. Street parking might be tough as well but you'll find a spot as long as you are willing to walk. Seating is along the bar and is so fun to eat there.

Yelp
They take the time to make sure they get your tacos right. The Baja and Pollo Asado tacos are so delicious. Their cilantro salsa was perfect with the crispy fish. There was no wait to order at 11AM on a Sunday too! The place is very small so I could see it being very crowded during peak hours.

Yelp
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by each staff worker and made to feel welcome! We ordered grilled fish tacos, al pastor (pork with pineapple) tacos for the kids, and elite corn - because no one does it better than they do! They also serve breakfast burritos now, which is a nice addition to their already awesome menu. We like to get a little of all the sauces from the salsa bar. The cilantro and chipolte creams are yummy on chips, and the chipolte salsa is mild and flavorful. Their tamatillo salsa verde has big chunks of avocado in it and it's mild and refreshing. I like the habanero salsa for a big kick, and the seasoned/pickled red onions are tasty add on to all the tacos. Everything is always perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and made fresh order. The food is served hot and everyone loves it. Shout out to the wonderful employees, as I told them they were doing a great job and made us feel welcome, and they were super appreciative Great food, excellent customer service, and family friendly spot for brunch!

Yelp
I love the taco stand, and we try to come here whenever we can. The food is always fresh and very tasty. Their tortillas are all fresh, super soft, and makes the burritos and tacos sooo good. I love getting their burritos and tacos. Everything that I've had here from the burritos, tacos and fires have been delicious. They are also very friendly, my little one wanted a flour tortilla by itself and they just gave it to us for free. The only thing that they need is a bigger area for sitting down. We all sat on bar stools, and all the stools were covering path to the bathroom. They were pretty busy and a lot of people wanted to sit but they didn't have a ton of room. So I suggest coming at a non busy time or take it to go. The other thing is the parking... we came on a busy Sunday and we were looking for parking for almost 30min. They share the same lot with all these other food places and the parking lot is tiny. We almost gave up until we saw someone getting out of the parking lot. If you get a spot, this place is BOMB!! It's definitely worth it.

Yelp
Not enough salt. The adobada and asada tasted lean instead of greasy. It tasted too healthy for a Mexican food. But is that the angle they are going for? Customers, there were barely any Mexicans, it was mostly young people. If that's the target customers, it does make sense. It's not bad, but this place is not for me either. One good thing. The corn tortilla tasted very fresh. Thanks for making that extra effort.

Yelp
A friend and I were in town for the day and thought what better food to have than tacos, I mean we are right at the border ‍ Very easy to find. Parking might be a bit difficult because it's a large plaza with a lot of other restaurants and shops. The inside is nice, although a bit small so don't come with a large group. But love the setup. They hand-make their tortillas and that's great. The tacos I have to admit are a bit pricey so we decided to get a burrito to get more bang for your buck. We got the California burrito and on a scale 1-5 I'll give it a 4. I would definitely go back to try their tacos though.

Yelp
Second time I come around coz im searching for best taco place in SD. I ordered carne asada, pastor and baja taco (battered fish). All three tasteless. Asada was tender but no real taste to it, I had to add a lot of salsa to give it something. Al pastor lacked everything, it tasted sour and sweet, it didnt have that nice aroma or taste. Adobada has a lot of spices and this lacked in the number or right combination of them. The fish taco was cooked okay but the batter was also flavorless, maybe a little more salt or different type of beer because it was bland. Tortillas were good, thin and only one per taco. Taco size is decent. Salsa selection was not impressive and their habanero has a small kick to it but not spicy. The place itself is nice and clean, good staff. Bathroom was also clean. Parking is not ideal and a nightmare during busy hours. Not place I would recommend or return to. It is pricey and the food is just tasteless. (Tacos are $3.80-$4.24 each) It looks like their main clientele comes from business around the area who want a change from asian cuisine.

Yelp
A family member of mine was craving tacos and we were near Convoy and decided to try The Taco Stand. She had heard good things, and said a few people she knows liked this place better than Tacos El Gordos (TEG)! I thought wow... it's gotta be good then. Parked and walked in... the first thing I noticed was there was not a lot of seating in this place. We looked at the menu and decided on Al Pastor Tacos and Sonora Tacos. We placed our order and sat down. As we waited, we watched ann employee use a hand crank press to make fresh tortillas. After a short 5-10 minute wait, we got our food. The tacos looked good, they did a good job with the presentation. As far as taste goes, I would rate them as decent (okay to good). The tacos were definitely not great, like TEG. The ingredients (onions, cilantro, tortilla, beans, etc.) tasted fresh, but the al pastor meat and carne asada just didn't taste as good as TEG. I liked the Sonora Taco better than the Al Pastor Taco. The melted cheese on the Sonora Taco was a nice touch. 3.5 / 5: Al Pastor Taco (corn tortilla, Al Pastor style meat, onion, cilantro, pineapple, sauce) 4 / 5: Sonora Taco (flour tortilla (I think), Angus beef, melted cheese, beans, guac, cilantro, onions, salsa) The Taco Stand is a nice addition to Convoy, but it's definitely not comparable to TEG. This place was busy, but not TEG busy (there was no line out the door like at TEG). What I'm trying to say is... WTH were my family member's friends / acquaintances talking about saying this place is better than TEG? Parking sucks here on Convoy during peak hours. LOL... on a side note, Google or Yelp's grammar corrector suggested "is busy" instead of the word I chose "sucks." Sorry, "sucks" is more accurate than "is busy." We parked at a Public (Paid) Parking spot nearby and walked over. Service was okay and the place was clean. Seating is limited. It got busy and all the seats/stools got taken. So some people had to stand until seating opened up. Short Version: If you want decent (okay to good) tacos, live closer to Convoy and want to save a drive to Chula Vista, come to The Taco Stand. If you want great tacos and don't mind the drive or live closer to Chula Vista, TEG is the clear choice. 3.8 / 5: Tacos 3 / 5: Service 4 / 5: Cleanliness 3.6 / 5: Overall (rounded to 4 / 5)

Yelp
Visiting San Diego for the first time and was brought here by a friend. I love tacos and was super excited to try this spot out. Normally I go for lengua, but this place doesn't offer which is no biggie. I decided to try something new and went for the Camaron (spicy shrimp). Shrimp has never been something I'd normally go for or would ever cross my mind but wow, I think I might start going for shrimp tacos now. The shrimp was spicy and packed with flavor. I also ordered a Carne Asada just to be safe and I think the shrimp is much more flavorful. Churros we're fresh, hot, and chewy. Would recommend saving some room for them. My order took some time since we did order 3 of the Camaron, 1 Carne Asada, and 1 Al pastor along with a side of churros. The shrimp must've taken the longest but the wait was well worth it. The restaurant is a bit small and cramped, but everyone is very friendly and will make space for you.

Yelp
Fresh corn & flour tortillas small whole in the wall.. service is what it is considering the ingredients used ..you won't be disappointed

Yelp
Ordered DoorDash here. Half the order was missing. California burrito contains just meat and French fries. For $11 I am extremely disappointed. I ordered 8 salsas. Didn't receive a single one. As a restaurant manager, just cancel my order next time please. Update: just had what was remaining of my order and the guacamole contains spoiled lime juice. It was fizzy and inedible. On the menu, it states that the carne asada and asada tacos come with salsa on it. We didn't get salsa on ours.

Yelp
I've seen this place open up in the heart of convoy in the busiest plaza so you already know how the parking situation is in those tiny lots. You might have to circle a few times but that plaza is always well worth my patience. My son wanted some birria which I thought they served here but they don't. They have a small menu compared to usual taco shops but that's good so they can perfect what they serve. The guy at the counter was cute and friendly. He was super nice and service was quick with the cooks in the back that you can clearly watch and also they have a bar seating that's directly in front of the cooks. They also serve beer here but other than the bar seating there is no other seating. I love love love their huge variety of their salsa bar!!! It had so many good sauces and I'm a saucy person so I sure did want to try every single sauce which you're able to package yourself. They also have pickled carrots and red onions for free which I love. We ended up only getting the cali burrito, surf and turf fries, and fresh churros. My son and his dad shared the burrito which was a decent size and surprisingly my husband it was pretty good! I had the surf and turf fries and it was delicious. Come to find out the fries in both dishes are seasoned fries so it added a nice touch without being salty at all. They ate the fresh churros that came with condensed milk that they said were yummy and fresh even after the drive home.

Yelp
Weekday lunch off peak. Plenty of seating in the tiny dining area. A few spots available in the parking lot. The inside was clean, ladies topping up the salsa bar and wiping down counters. Prices are fair for quality received. It looked like they were prepping for dinner later. One lady was working on carne asada. It was thick (1 inch) pieces of meat that she was cooking to medium rare and slicing into small chunks to be rewarmed on the flat top. I think that was why my carne asada taco was so tasty. No dried out, super thin, stringy meat here! Pork taco was fresh and tasty as well. Toppings are thoughtful. Salsa bar had some great choices.

Yelp
If you're a fan of shrimp, especially shrimp tacos, then this is the spot for you. However, I must warn you, the parking situation here is dreadful. The layout is poorly designed and extremely tight. In our case, we opted to wait in our car while our friend went down to place our order. I would highly recommend exploring other locations to avoid the hassle of dealing with parking here. Fortunately, luck was on our side as a car right in front of us was leaving, allowing us to snag a spot. The restaurant itself is also quite small. Despite its size, we managed to secure a seat and enjoyed observing the workers crafting fresh tortillas by hand. The sauce bar was also really good. I recommend trying them all to see which ones you like. I ordered a baja (battered fish) taco and a camaron (spicy shrimp) taco. While the baja taco was enjoyable, it was the camaron taco that truly impressed me. Its delicious flavor had me devouring it in no time. I wish I ordered more the first time around, but I didn't want to endure another wait in line. I'm genuinely looking forward to returning, perhaps to a different location to bypass the troublesome parking situation!

Yelp
Stopped by to grab some tacos before heading out to a bar nearby. The service was super fast and our tacos came out within 5-6 minutes. They have a salsa bar so you could get your own sauces as well. Coming from the Southbay area, I would say these tacos are mediocre and I was expecting more out of these tacos. There wasn't anything that really drew me to want more tacos or make another visit. Seating is limited inside and is a bit narrow so everyone is squeezed in, in the back.
google avatar

Yelp
Visited here yesterday with my fiance. Ordered three Al pastor tacos and one fish taco. They ended up giving us three Al pastor tacos for free because they accidentally made extra! The location has a small seating area, but people are always coming and in and out so you'll be able to find a seat quick. Always a great experience at the taco stand!

Yelp
This place is . If you live close and haven't eaten here you're doing yourself a huge disservice. I went on a rec from a gentlemen I met from Mexico City. He said this place was his favorite and backed up his credentials with some food talk. I'm glad I met him cause this place is quickly one of my new fav SD spots. Get the birria with octopus taco. I didn't realize octopus could be so tender. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Roy L.

Yelp
The Taco Stand is the best value in terms of food quality and affordability. A California Burrito is under $10 before tax and the flavor is very consistent across different restaurants. I can't speak more highly of the burritos. The turnaround is quick too. The only downside is that this Taco Stand is located in one of the busiest plazas in all of SD. Finding parking is a nightmare and easier to find parking behind the plaza on the streets.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice spot, an unexpected find amid a dozen or so Asian fusion places. Not quite the side of the road taco stand I'd imagined, The Taco Stand was more like a cleaned up version of TJ Oyster Bar. Carne asada was tasty and tender, as were the shrimp, and although the prices were high, the portions delivered value for that money. Salsa macha was provided, nuts, garlic and all. Not the best version I've had - it was pasty, not chunky, and it lacked the depth of flavor I expect from house-toasted chipotles, arbols or other dark chilies - but it was spicy, and I do like spicy. Since I'm not going to Tijuana anytime soon, I'll go back to The Taco Stand.
google avatar

Yelp
Tacos here are tasty & flavorful. I got 2 al pastor tacos & I really like how they add bits of pineapple to the top of the tacos. The location is tiny & has limited seating but people are constantly leaving so seats become available kind of quick. The price isn't too bad, my tacos were $3.75 each. They also have a salsa bar with a variety of salsas & spicy carrots with jalapeños. The tortillas are made on the spot so it's fresh but the only downfall is they only give 1 tortilla instead of double. Overall, I like this place as it's my go to for some quick tacos since Tacos El Gordo in CV is a 30 mins drive for me compared to 5 minutes to this place. I would recommend this place plus there's several locations around San Diego.
google avatar

Luana S.

Yelp
We ordered through Door Dash so I can't comment on the service and ambiance. The food was just ok. The Tacos were very small for the price. They were good but nothing special. My son seemed to like his Carne Asada Burrito. The stars of the meal were the Churros. With so many places to get Tacos in the area we probably won't order from here again.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
The fish in my fish burrito was beyond dry. The salsas also lacked depth of flavor. I was pretty disappointed but the value is great. My husband had the California burrito and found it okay but didn't feel the need to go back. The kitchen also seemed disorganized- messy and literally too many cooks in the kitchen. I'd you've gone to the small Bonita location of TJ Oyster Bar- 1 guy is cooking for a bunch of customers and gets orders out in a timely manner in a spotless kitchen.

Yelp
I've been to the other Taco Stand location in La Jolla, but this is now my go-to location. It is a bit smaller, but I've never really had trouble finding street parking in the area and I haven't seen it with an hour+ long wait like with the other locations. I know a lot of people come here for the surf & turf, the al pastor, or the carne asada, but I really like their fish, either grilled (grilled pescado) or beer-battered (baja). I usually get 2 Grilled Pescado Tacos ($3.95), and that's enough to fill me up while not feeling completely stuffed. They top the tacos off with cabbage, pico de gallo, and chipotle sauce, which is super refreshing. There's also a salsa bar to the side where you can also get limes and pickled onions. Their cilantro salsa is definitely their most popular one though, I've seen people literally get water cups to fill up with that salsa. Seating inside is very tight. It's literally 2 bars back to back so it's definitely not group friendly. You kind of just have to stand around until seat open up if you really do plan on eating inside. It's definitely better to just do take out though if you want to avoid waiting around.

Yelp
I gave this place 5 stars because I will definitely one back even with one flaw. This place is so small and there is no comfortable place to sit. I sat right in front of the tortilla maker and that was the best view, but moving in and out I had to bump into a few people. The food is WONDERFUL!! I loved the variety of food and salsa bar. Everything I had I enjoyed. The grilled and fried fish was GREAT! I didn't get a chance to try the melted cheese in the taco/burritos but it looked GOOD! My favorite thing here was the full staff of female chefs. They worked so efficiently with barely any communication required. Probably the calmest kitchen I've ever seen. I've been to another Taco stand location and it is also so good so I hope they keep it up.

Yelp
As far as Mexican food is concerned to me, this place is top tier. The taco stand keeps its authenticity with a welcomed modern twist. They make the tortillas and chips in house. All the meats I've tried were prepared exceptionally. My favorite has to be their steak (asada) as it seems that they choose a great cut of meat. You can get a pound of fresh chips for a few bucks. Head over to the sauce bar and be delighted with each and every sauce. There is probably a sauce/topping for everyone but I loved them all. I recommend the volcano taco and fries.

Yelp
Just ordered two burritos and two tacos an hour ago. The polo asada burrito burrito had almost 0 beans in it and one spoon guacamole at the very bottom of the burrito, also had about 3 to 4 pieces of chicken undercooked and no seasoning. That was super lazy and quickly done. Please remember to put beans and guacamole throughout the whole burrito. First time being disappointed with Taco Stand in years. My whole burrito was chicken and tortilla almost, and they didn't even season the chicken. Ridiculous! The carne asada tacos were great otherwise.

Camille L.

Yelp
Came here with some friends because we were craving some tacos. I usually go down to TEG but we were already in Convoy so we decided to try this place out. It was super busy at around 8pm. The tacos did not disappoint! We waited about 30ish minutes for our 10 tacos, it wasn't that bad of a wait. But, what made me rank this place as 4 stars was the seating. There was not that many seats so we waited outside. Other than that, I'll come back but maybe not at that late of a time!

Yelp
Came here for lunch and they did not disappoint . Ordered a Cali burrito and Mar y Tierra fries . The meat is so tender and the delicious Smokey flavor just keeps me wanting more! Parking can be a nightmare because it's located in Convoy. The salsa bar is great with different varieties of salsa and picked onions!

Yelp
Came here and got the grilled pescado burrito. It was good, the fish was cooked nicely but I prefer it a little less well done. I think I like the taco better than the burrito because of the texture of the made in house corn tortilla shell. I suggest Tacos over burritos here, I guess it IS called The Taco Stand, so that shoulda been the hint to order the taco. LOL This location is good because it has its own parking lot, but it does get busy and crowded, so either go early just as it opens. Other locations I've been to don't have parking but this strip mall gets so busy and congested I'd say parking is just as difficult, so just go to the closest one to you unless you go just as it opens. Service was friendly and like the other locations I like the salsa bar that has both traditional and cream sauces. I like to mix the cream chipotle and habanero salsas. The taco stand is known for its Pastor tacos because they are sliced off of a rotating spit. One of the best kept secrets is that they make a great grilled fish taco. Highly suggest the tacos over the burritos because they are made fresh in house and have a great texture.

Yelp
The hubby craves Taco Stand's carne asada fries from time to time, so it's nice the Convoy location is close to where we live. If you live in SD, then you know how busy all the locations get with tourists. The Convoy location is tight with only a handful of chairs to sit at, so the best time is off time unless you take it to go. I ordered the Baja, which is the fish taco (fried) on a corn tortilla. The hubby ordered the same along with a Sonora which comes on a flour tortilla with steak, beans, guac, cheese, pico, cilantro. We always share the carne asada fries which are a must have when coming here IMO. The fries are always hot, delicious, topped with a cheese sauce, sour cream, guac, steak and more cheese.

Yelp
Always loved taco stand! The food is very consistent at every location I've been to so foodwise going to any taco stand would provide the same food experience, however the only thing that was significantly different was the intertior. This taco stand was so small and had barely any seating. It also felt a little bit dirty/grimey. Parking was hard to find for this location as well.

Yelp
Continuing to bring friends and family here and they all love it. Taco Stand delivers consistently fresh and affordable tacos. All of their options are great. My personal favorites are the nopal and shrimp, but the carne asada is a popular choice. Parking lot is still a nightmare. Seating is limited but if you're able to snatch a seat, it's kind of fun watching them make everything from scratch in front of you. Otherwise, I see most people getting their food to go.

Yelp
An excellent place for tacos! I got a carne asada and chicken taco which were both full of flavor. I also got chips and guac on the side. Guac was fresh and the chips were still warm when I got them. I went during an off hour in the middle of a workday so I there wasn't a big line and received my order rather quickly. Lastly, there's a generally a "no frills" ambiance to the place which I liked. The place is rather small so there is counter seating only which can hard to get if you're going during peak times or if you're going in a large group. So be prepared to get your order to go and eat elsewhere.

Yelp
This is the third time that I ordered online. And cashier is holding my ticket for more than 20 to 25 minutes. Making me wait for my food. I've never had this problem before until now. Very bad customer service I put my order in an hour before I pick up

Yelp
Decent taco spot. Their tortillas are freshly made on the spot. Their tacos are pretty good but I had better ones. They don't put too much fillings in the tacos. They have many different types of salsa available but it was quite messy and no one is keeping the salsa bar cleaned. In addition, it was very hard to find parking in that parking lot. FYI.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and it was busy. I ordered 2 tacos (grilled shrimp taco & Baja taco). I guess there was a mobile order right before my order and it was huge order. They order 6 tacos and 2 burritos, meantime standing there waiting for my 2 tacos. Granted I went there around 1:30pm I waited for 10 minutes for my 2 tacos. Parking lot is pretty tight. The inside of the taco stand was limited. The tacos I got were okay, was the wait worth it, probably not. For the price of the tacos I purchased was a bit pricey. Would I come back probably not. There's better places to eat around there especially for the price.

Yelp
Solid Mexican food, we particularly love the surf and turf. Service can be a bit slow as they are often busy but you can always order ahead for pickup. There is very limited seating indoors and can be cramped if there are a lot of people in line as the restaurant is not very big.

Yelp
My favorite taco place overall. Whenever I'm in town, I MUST get some shrimp tacos and cactus. So so good I recommend to everyone I know.

Yelp
This is my pregnancy craving place. My fav are Baja tacos and Nopal tacos. Ingredients are very fresh, not overly seasoned. Freshly made corn tortilla makes all the difference. Salsa is tasty. Churros are amazing as well. Would suggest to go during non peak hours. Parking in that plaza can be a nightmare.

Yelp
Handmade fresh tortillas. We ordered the Corn on the Cob-excellent!! I saw the Carne Asada Fries. The fries looked thick & crispy.

Yelp
I absolutely love The Taco Stand, but this location has some room to improve. The last few times I've ordered online for pick up and each time they forget at least 1 item from my order. Last time it was churros and this time they forgot my mahi mahi taco. The music is always so loud that you can barely talk to the employees and it's rare that the salsa bar is fully stocked. I've been to several of their other locations and always have a great experience without any issues. On top of that, the parking is horrible because of it's location on Convoy Street. The food is still amazing, but I might have to drive just a little further away next time to make sure I get everything I paid for.

Yelp
The Taco Stand is one of our go tos, but we had never visited this location. It's small and busy, like all of them are, but the line does move pretty fast. This location in particular feels more claustrophobic than the others. There are two bars of stool seating and a very narrow walkway in between. I felt super rushed eating since there were so many people waiting around and very little space for them to do so. The tacos travel very well though so takeout is always a good option!

Yelp
I have yet to try the OG Taco Stand in La Jolla but I've had the North Park one and it's comparable. I had the carne asada, al pastor, and Camaron or spicy shrimp taco, and my girlfriend had the mar y Tierra burrito. The flavors were unique and there is a lot going on with each bite. You can taste most ingredients that went into it, but the textures and the taste of everything together is different from most other taco places. The sauces provided are self serve so if you want even more flavors and textures you can grab as much as you need. I think the tacos are good by themselves, or with the mayo based cilantro sauce or chipotle sauce. For cons, I think the presentation of the tacos were messy. A lot of the taco filling was falling out the moment we unwrapped it. Explains why the seating area tables were really dirty. I also wish there was more shrimp and meat inside the burrito. The space was very cramped as well, even less space available than the North Park branch. I strongly suggest taking it to go, even though the food might get cold and not as good.

Yelp
Out of all the Mexican food we had while vacationing in SD, The Taco Stand was our favorite for Cali burrito and Baja fish tacos. So good, we came 2 days in a row! IMO their Baja fish tacos are better than Oscar's. Super cool watching them make the tortilla in front of you. Casal dining vibes with counter seating for ~6 people. They were pretty busy both nights we went even though we ordered online. They're pretty popular among locals and have multiple locations throughout San Diego. Can't wait to come back soon!

Yelp
This was my favorite taco during my trip to San Diego! Each taco was ~$3ish. I ordered the spicy shrimp and chicken taco. Each taco had so much filling, veggies, and avocado / guac. I loved how each bite had so much in it. The shrimp was my favorite taco because the shrimp had such a good flavor and was a bit spicy. The chicken was also made super well! My favorite part was the tortilla because it was loaded with cheese, which really pulled the entire taco together. I'd highly recommend going to taco stand if you're in San Diego for good tacos!

Yelp
Delicious FRESH Mexican Fast Food ( tortillas made on the spot) but very cramped and limited restaurant seating not conducive to dining in... Also not the greatest location for this type of fast food due to limited parking so not very convenient. Lastly, the salsa bar always seems very unkempt and needs frequent refreshing and attention due to high demand and consumption... a detail that should not go unchecked. If I were strictly rating the food, I might've given it a 5, but overall experience earned it a 3.5
