"Inspired by the bustling taco stands of Tijuana, Julian Hakim and Aram Baloyan of Shōwa Hospitality (Himitsu, Convoy Music Bar, Torien) decided to launch their first Taco Stand in 2013 to bring the same energy and flavors to San Diego. Since the La Jolla opening, the pair of restaurateurs have branched out to five other San Diego locations: Downtown, Encinitas, North Park, Convoy, and most recently, Oceanside. The locally based taco outfit slings Tijuana-style tacos, burritos, fried churros, and more, offering classic proteins such as carne asada with flame-grilled angus steak, al pastor with rotisserie marinated pork, and pollo asado or flame-grilled chicken, and a few vegetable tacos like nopales and mushroom. The counter-service taqueria is both trendy and cozy, with stool seating and small tables for two." - Roxana Becerril
