Where to Eat Right Now in Murfreesboro | Eater Nashville

"The Three Mothers Cuisine & Bakery opened its doors in Murfreesboro in 2023, churning out Mexican pastries, biscuits, yeast bread, and muffins from its nook in an unassuming strip mall. The outdoor patio with plants and herbs is an ideal spot to enjoy the chicken salad croissant sandwich or a tamale followed by a hunk of creamy tres leches cake." - Eater Staff

Cozy little bakery sitting on a busy street in town. The dining area is small with a handful of tables and a couple booths. Service isn't the quickest, but it is genuine and kind, and you can tell the food is cooked with a lot of care. There is a lot of flavor with their dishes. The menu is quite limited when it comes to choices. Expect breakfast omelettes of different styles and certain types of lunch sandwiches. The bakery seems to be the main show here. Lots to choose from when it comes to the fresh baked goods available. Prices are on the higher side, but not unreasonable. I would definitely come back.

Google
This place is wonderful. They have phenomenal food and the most delicious treats and desserts! The workers are SO friendly and welcoming. The food is expensive ($16.99 for a sandwich with chips) so I don’t eat here often, but wow, the food is truly SO good! I love the avocado BLT.

Google
A hidden gem for lunch and an amazing bakery! The sandwiches were awesome and I’m going to need to go back at least 3 more times to try everything I wanted to tasted from the bakery. There were 2 or 3 more cases of ready to go pastries that I didn’t get to take pictures of too!

Google
Traveling and wanted something healthier to eat from the road! Super easy to get to and the atmosphere is cozy. The wall of pastry was displayed very well 😋 Excellent service and hospitality. Now let’s get to the good part… the food! I had the chicken salad croissant. The best I’ve ever had 🫶🏼 The coleslaw is great, on the vinegar side but we like it that way. My husband had the Avocado blt and he loved it!! So happy we stopped in and now wish we had a Three Mothers in Florida

Google
Great little spot on the north side of town to grab a hot breakfast or baked treat. I had the chorizo omelette which was excellent. Made fresh, served hot, and delicious. It came with some fresh fruit on the side which was ripe in Cut to an edible size. Really enjoyed it

Google
What a lovely experience! Amazing customer service, the gentleman there are so friendly. It’s like going to your nana and pop pops and catching up over good food. Super comforting and felt like home. And seriously …. The freshest food I’ve had since moving to Murfreesboro! Absolutely yummy.

Google
Today was my first visit to Three Mothers. I arrived about 2 pm on a Saturday afternoon, not too busy. Service was friendly and extremely fast. The Avocado Turkey Club Sandwich was GIGANTIC and delicious! Baked Potatoe Soup was packed full of flavor! The Cole Slaw was creamy and delicious. I hot about 6 different pastries "to go" which was difficult to choose from the huge selection . I will be back for my 2nd visit soon! Ladies bathroom was very clean*

Google
Three Mother's West is "softly" opened in what was the Hwy 55 Burgers store...grand opening information should be coming soon. I visited Three Mother's original location soon after opening and met Chef Luis Talavera who gave me a tour, but this was my first dining experience. Yami got me set up with my order and drink...this place is bright, comfortable, and cheery. You also see the portrait of the "Three Mother's" prominently displayed on the wall. I went with the chicken salad on a croissant with the coleslaw as the side. I requested they omit the pecans to which Chef Luis said, "no problem...give me a minute". This is a really good homemade sandwich, and the croissant felt as if it just came out of the oven. The filling was more than ample while the flavors of chicken, apples, celery, and onions really complemented each other. Kinda hard to hold this sandwich together with all the filling but everything was fresh, crispy, and darn good! I liked the slaw...a mix of mayo and vinegar but the flavors were spot on and everything was wonderfully crunchy. Chef Luis brought around a tray of Tres Leche cake with a caramel drizzle to the ladies at the other table and me...gratis. I've got to say...this Tres Leche was exceptional, great flavors, the caramel gave it a nice kick, and the cake was firm but well soaked in milk. Some folks may avoid the place based on cost; my sandwich & sweet tea ran $21.12 but the quality and quantity of the food made it worth the visit. They also have a breakfast menu and a number of other items on the lunch side I am interested in trying. Of course, all the pastries there will cause you to go into a sugar coma. Good food and excellent service, looking forward to their continued success on this side of town. West Location: 5131 Franklin Rd Murfreesboro, TN

Yelp
We stopped in just to see what was going on and ended up having breakfast. The food was great; fresh, well-cooked, presented nicely. Service was prompt and polite. It's got a nice, relaxed ambiance with pastry displays all around. The chorizo omelette was outstanding. The ingredients are infused with the egg so each bite was flavorful. If you order the French Toast make sure you're hungry! It tastes great with plenty of fresh fruit toppings. We will 10/10 go back.

Yelp
The meals are fantastic and the service is superb! I tried a cake and pie and it was awesome. The pastries were good and they tasted just like the pastries at the Mexican bakeries in Houston. They taste delicious as they should in the Mexican pastry category. In most countries outside of the US, the desserts aren't too overly sweetened.

Yelp
The food... baked goods... service... homie environment are ALL 10!!! Located right off of Memorial, You have to look for it because if you blink you'll miss it. This local eatery and bakery has turned in to one of our favorite spots. The staff are genuinely kind and VERY attentive. BUT the food... is DELICIOUS!! Fresh quality ingredients make all the difference. The ratios are beautifully balanced. You owe it to yourself to try this place for breakfast or lunch.

Yelp
Great place to eat.. Fast, Very Friendly and Hard Working folks. Try the French toast, chicken soup and the vast array of fresh pastries! A find you won't regret visiting! You're welcome.

Peggy V.

Yelp
Wow! So happy to have found this hidden gem. Excellent chicken noodle soup, perfectly toasted Avocado BLT. Cole slaw was a wonderfully balanced mayo/ vinegar base. 11/10 service was also stellar - will definitely be returning soon for one of their tantalizing desserts! Such a sweet, cozy vibe too!

Yelp
I'm excited that Three Mothers Bakery is opening another bakery on Franklin Road. In my opinion, they are the best bakery in town.

Joann N.

Yelp
We had been meaning to try this place and finally got a chance to stop in. We're so glad we did! We were greeted so kindly as soon as we walked in the door and seated quickly. We were served fresh hot coffee and our breakfast order was as also served in record time. The food was not only full of flavor but was piping hot! And the walls were lined with trays of pastries and desserts of all kinds! This will be our new go-to place for picking up fresh baked goods!! The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing - a new favorite spot for sure!!

Yelp
Enjoyed my lunch here. The server was very attentive to our table and kept our waters filled. I got the grilled chicken salad which was very tasty! I also got a few of the baked goods... so many to choose from! Hope to be back.

Yelp
Since moving from Massachusetts over a year ago, my husband has been on the hunt for a good bakery. After reading many reviews, he said we should try Three Mothers. When we went this past Sunday (yesterday) we bought a variety of items, including a piece of chocolate flan. The chocolate flan was for me and a couple hours after buying it, I grabbed a fork and went to take a bite...I stopped when I saw about AN INCH OF MOLD in the flan! I am shocked that this was allowed to happen (serious lack of quality control) and that the employee who grabbed the piece for us didn't give it a "once over" to ensure it was of good quality.

Yelp
After an unfortunate event with my wedding cake, I found this lovely establishment. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted by a very helpful gentleman. He immediately went and got a book with designs and cake size to discuss what options he had. He was able to accommodate my order on short notice. The inside of the shop is beautiful. The ambience is that of acquaint coffee shop. Very comfortable atmosphere. They do serve a wonderful chicken salad croissant which I accompanied with their coleslaw. Everything was delicious. I bought a sampling of tarts, Keylime pie and chocolate covered strawberries. I was very pleased with all of my selections. Due to the shop owners kindness accompanied with all the delicious options, I will be a repeat customer.

Yelp
In town for a dance recital and opted to try The Three Mothers for breakfast! What a TREAT! From the moment you approach there are beautiful plants and a sandwich board declaring the daily specials. We were greeted immediately upon entry and quickly were escorted to a table. The coffee arrived before we were even settled and my husband ordered the three Mother's breakfast - eggs, sausage, and potato hash. I choose a pastry from the case. They brought uabthebolate of warm and soft rolls and wow! So yummy and soft. The entire restaurant is so clean and the cases are filled with delectable pastries. We couldn't resist purchasing 2 sugar cookies with heart shaped eyes and a big smile for our granddaughters! The service was swift and we would go back in a minutes. Especially when we found out they have tamales!!

Yelp
I am not sure if I am a Mexican pastry type of gal, I've tried them multiple times and it's just not my cup of tea. Perhaps I am trying the wrong there's, it's just the flour they use or whatever is just way too drying for my liking. But, service was great, the guy, I'm going to assume he's the owner was very friendly. He was able to answer my questions when I asked him what was what since lots of goodies were not labeled. We bought a variety of desserts and to narrow things down, I think the chocolate cake flan was probably the best. It was not super sweet at all. What I like about most of the Mexican pastries is that they do not use a ton of sugar, and you can tell just by taste it too. I wanted to love their tiramisu but I didn't care for it as much as I wanted, I was just expecting something different. My son did not care for his cupcake as much or his cookies. He must of wanted it with more sugar We also got their tamales in every kind they offer. The jalapeño and cheese was was sooo delicious and super spicy, just wish they would put a little more filling inside of them. Will definitely be back for that.

Yelp
This place was definitely delicious! The homey and very eco friendly atmosphere gives it a lovely vibe with plenty of seating as well. The staff were so nice and helped us choose some amazing options not just for us but for my friend as well. Smells amazing and looking forward to trying every confectionery in this cute little shop! They also make bread! There was a short and simple menu that we picked up and brought home for the next time we get a chance to come here.

Yelp
There are a lot of positive reviews about this bakery and that's what made me try it out. I don't think I am a Mexican bakery pastry guy. I don't find anything special about this place but the looks of the pastries. I ended up with a box and did not finish them. I had samples some with my family, I need more sugar in my desserts. The only thing I liked here was the tamales and that the owner was nice.

Yelp
One of those places you never knew it was there but you're glad you found it. Awesome pastries and good food. Always clean and well maintained. I have been a few times now so I can say honestly this a very consistent experience.

Yelp
10/24. We received a Carrot cake & a Black Forest cake. We as our whole family decided these were the best cakes, hands down. The Carrot cake was dense, moist and full of flavor. The cream cheese icing was the best ever. The BF cake also was delicious. The chocolate cake was perfect, the fruit filling perfectly fit in the whipped cream frosting. Both cakes were wonderful and we are thankful to have 3 Mothers here on M'boro

Yelp
This is a hidden gem. The baked goods are endless. This is a quaint Bakery. They serve breakfast and lunch.

Yelp
BLUF: Customer service is excellent! Mexican pastries are different than American pastries. Large selection of items. Averages about $2/item. I personally may not come back but that's not because service is bad. I just like a different texture and flavor when it comes to pastry. I prefer light light, moist, buttery and sweet. I think it probably is great for anyone who likes Mexican pastries.

K S.

Yelp
Really nice brunch. We enjoyed our French Toast and Waffles. The server was just right, there was a slight language barrier but we made it work. We were also visited by 2 other servers to check on quality . Wasn't overly busy so we could relax and have a good visit. Come for the lunch or breakfast but you can't miss all the bakery items in their serve yourself cases. It is important to note that this bakery is a Mexican bakery. The cakes, cookies, and breads are visually enticing but their use of sweeteners and salt is not as over the top as most American sweets. If you are not accustomed to this you may think their pastries are on the bland side. I think it is a pleasant change. It is reminiscent of a visit abroad. Will have to return and try a sandwich and possibly have them make a cake.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Service was great! Very kind and helpful. The pastries though- I mean this in the kindest of ways, but something is not right. I wish they would take the comments to heart and attempt to fix it. This place could be AMAZING if the pastries were edible and I know their business would flourish. I've seen locals raving about this place and the photos are so appealing. I didn't realize my experience was the same as others until I dug into the reviews. The pastries are hard and have a very foul flavor. We couldn't put our finger on it. Possibly as if they have been sitting out next to a strong cleaner/deodorizer and absorbed some of that into the dough? It's not a chemical taste though- more like old, moldy wood. I've never experienced anything like it. Sadly everything we bought was thrown away.

Yelp
The doughnuts are excellent, flaky sweet and many varieties to choose from. We tried the huckleberry at the Franklin location and it was amazing. The bakery in Belmont was also delicious. We tried the strawberry lemonade cronut and it was delicious. The orange cinaconn was also light flaky and amazing. I took pictures of the Belmont location but it must not have posted.

Yelp
I have to admit, I am a lover of bread. I bake bread myself so, I know when something is fresh or really a store bought fake. That is why I was in bread heaven! The Three Mothers served me fresh homemade chicken salad on an honest to goodness fresh made croissant. And THEN, they brought me a warm, buttery, seductive, pumpkin muffin. Yes, seductive. Because they took the time to sprinkle powdered sugar on the plate. It was truthfully the best muffin I've ever had. I will be back!

Yelp
What a very cool place! I had breakfast this morning here and the people working there are no nice. I have never been such an amazing selection of Bake Goods; I had a few samples and they were all very delicious. They brought homemade biscuits to the table, scrumptious. I had the veggie omelette and was glad I did. This place is wonderful and I will be back

Dee K.

Yelp
What a great group of people working here! We stopped by on our way to Ramsey Solutions studio. The entire staff were so welcoming and offered us samples, suggestions and great service. We ordered a chocolate / pecan muffin, a chocolate croissant, another pastry and a coffee. My only downside was they had nothing 'lemony' as I always look for a lemon tart when I travel. Highly recommend going here for some tasty treats.
google avatar

Adam P.

Yelp
Great selection of treats with a very friendly and helpful staff. Everything we tried was delicious!
google avatar

kaitlyn N.

Yelp
This place has amazing foods and pastries! I love their BLT with avocado and my husband loves the biscuits and gravy. The owner also brought us out some complementary oatmeal raisin cookies he was making, and oh my goodness they were good.
google avatar

Gilbert M.

Yelp
Very nice place, staff was friendly and breakfast was very good. Lots of great baked goods as well. I highly recommend trying them out .
google avatar

Arline B.

Yelp
Is there a specific day of the week when the pastries are fresh? I have only gone once but like another reviewer bought several and had to toss most because they were hard and stale. The staff was very kind and friendly....
google avatar

Cristina M.

Yelp
Ok so this little spot has a ton to offer. The lunch menu is short but everything I saw coming out looked top notch. My husband had the club sandwich and I had the chicken salad on a croissant. They were both delicious. We took home some tres leches cake and a fruit glazed cake. We weren't really impressed with the cakes but they looked lovely. I am not a big fan of Mexican pastries, or maybe I haven't found the "one." The service was great and they check on us, answered questions and went above and beyond. Hope to get back soon for another lunch.
google avatar

Debbie C.

Yelp
Small space and menu - don't worry all the food on the menu is amazing! The BLT and French toast were out of this world! Great low key jazz music lets you appreciate a wonderful experience!

Joseph O.

Yelp
The choice and selection is fabulous...as never disappointed! Very good! A great and friendly place to visit and enjoy!

Yelp
Good food veey friendly. Their bakery selection is very robust. Walking in you see maybe 15 items only to see off to the left 100+ more items. Fresh made bread, turnovers, cakes, and more.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Murfreesboro is in dire need of a good bakery; this isn't it. The pastries weren't just not fresh, they were stale. They weren't just not good, they were bad. We bought several to try, tasted only a couple and then threw the rest out. An example: there was a croissant (using that term loosely) that had the texture of a stale dinner role. It was filled with pastry crème and strawberries. The strawberries were just okay, but the crème smelled sour. Service was alright, but it's mostly just self serve. Ambiance is fair; what you'd expect from a local business, but it didn't even smell like a bakery -- because they don't actually bake anything on site. Disappointing, as the people running the place are nice, but this is a huge miss for a bakery, and for Murfreesboro.

Meredith W.

Yelp
This was my first visit to this bakery. I had read good reviews about their bakery items so I was excited to get here. The store looked nice. I bought a chocolate cupcake and red velvet cake slices. The red velvet cake was very dry and had no flavor. The chocolate cupcake was also very dry and hard. They both seemed old and they didn't taste that good. I was so disappointed with the quality of the cakes. They shouldn't have sold either item. I would not recommend this bakery.

Warrick L.

Yelp
The Three Mothers restaurant was a pleasant surprise in our recent trip to Murfreesboro. We wanted a simple cup of coffee and a place to sit and chat, we go so much more than that. We stumbled upon a true gem. The restaurant is immaculate (this simple thing says so much about a restaurant) and we were quickly greeted and shown a seat. The breakfast menu is small but everything we had was executed with competency and love. Who knew a simple BLT could be so well put together? Instead of boring iceberg lettuce, they used Arugula. Instead of plain old mayonnaise, they used a wonderful aioli. Their baked goods are moist, tasty and everything you wish your Mother knew how to make. Go there - Today and go again Tomorrow. We loved it!!!
google avatar

Elaine K.

Yelp
Many varieties of pastries and cakes. Friendly service. Could be a little brighter inside. Homemade tamales. Give it a try and see for yourself.

Hillary M.

Yelp
Loved the breakfast, excellent and super kind service and the baked goods. It's a cute place and a great way to support local business. Yum and we'll be back!
google avatar

Sandra K.

Yelp
Three Mothers is a massive surprise. Their bakery items, of which there are dozens and dozens to choose from, are fabulous. The tres leches cakes are incredible. And they have tamales. OH MY. The jalapeño tamales are fantastic. The people who own and operate Three Mothers are helpful and always kind. Stop in for breads, cookies, pastries, sandwiches, or salads. And tamales. Do not forget the tamales.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow this place is amazing! They have about everything under the sun! Like, buns, cakes, dipped fruits and more! There are booths inside too.
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise!! Their avocado BLT sandwich is awesome! Be sure to try their coleslaw!! I know,.....how exciting can coleslaw be?? We'll, try it! More pastries in this store than I have ever seen in one place. Come support this wonderful local business

Yelp
Excellent find in the 'Boro! It's refreshing to find a place with owners 100% commitment to making foods from scratch, seasoned beautifully and served with style and a smile. The place is tastefully decorated, the music perfect and the dessert cases brimming with the most amazing array of handmade pastries and breads. The owner is most amicable and spends a great deal of time both in front and in back of the restaurant. Talking with guests, in addition to cooking. They definitely have it all going. Even though the place is located in a small strip center, the outside has comfortable seating with beautiful blooming plants and herbs everywhere. The chopped chicken salad on a bed of lettuce if fantastic - perfectly cubed veggies and chicken with a tangy vinaigrette, the chicken noodle soup is some of the best - chock full of vegetables and shredded chicken in rich herbed chicken broth. The small tray of baked yeast breads that arrive at your table prior to your meal are to die for! The pies, cupcakes, flan, cakes are over the top! The desert cases will make you full just by looking at them! Enjoy!!!'

Yelp
I'm From NYC visiting my family here in Murfreesboro, and stopped in this morning for breakfast and bought some delicious baked goods. This place rocks !! The waitstaff, and the chef clearly defined the true meaning of hospitality!! The food was impeccably delicious !!

Yelp
Customer service was incredible! Lots of pastries to choose from. Gave out some samples. Looked really cute as well! Will come back for sure.

Yelp
Such a nice addition to our bakery scene. So many delicious pastry choices. Excellent coffee and the nicest owners

Arthur S.

Yelp
Wonderful NEW small family owned AUTHENTIC BAKERY, we stop in and check it out. Very nice owner and employees. The bakery items we purchased were all fresh made with legit traditional quality ingredients and were delicious. They make fresh pies, assorted cakes, pastries and cookies. we can't wait to visit again !

Brenda S.

Yelp
The absolute best chicken salad croissant I've ever eaten! Carrot cake was very moist as well. Great service. I will be back again and again.

Margaret S.

Yelp
Lunch today was delicious! I enjoyed the chicken salad on a terrific croissant with fresh fruit on the side. My husband enjoyed the club sandwich on good bread with coleslaw for his side. Good and fresh, lots of crunch. They treated us to a lovely eclair for dessert. So good we licked our fingers clean! It was a dreary rainy day and the hot coffee was rich and delicious hot. We picked up pastries for home and a lovely treat for Mom to enjoy also. They shared the news that they will soon be serving breakfast also. We looked over that menu and we are planning to come back again soon.
