"Hip coffee joint Third Rail Coffee’s East Village outpost on Second Avenue has closed. Workers were spotted clearing out the space and a sign posted at the shop earlier this year noted that the landlord had terminated the coffee shop’s lease. It’s not yet clear if the original Sullivan Street location will remain." - Eater Staff

"Third Rail is a very normal and relaxed coffee shop on 10th Street and 2nd Avenue in the East Village. It’s right near Astor Place, so it’s a good place to meet if you’re coming from opposite sides of the city. Also - it’s across from a nice little park in front of an old church, so you can sit outside and pretend you live in a small Colonial town." - Hannah Albertine

Nice little spot! Good cappuccino and greet polite barista. Only downfall of a coffee spot is when you charge a lot and can’t have a bathroom for customers.

A cozy spot near washington square park with some personal touch. Like their wall is used for gallery display. Once in a while, I receive hand draw cup holders from them. The hot Americano is my usual drink.

This coffee shop usually has a blend and a single-origin espresso, as well as a few varieties for pour-over. Third rail features beans from multiple roasters, with Counter Culture as their primary and consistent roaster. The pastry includes muffins from Blue Sky bakery. The seating is at low tables and benches, and with backless stools.

Every day of my one week trip, I rushed to this unique place in East Village NYC. For my cappuchino with oak milk. Thanks!

Great coffee. Had decaf coldbrew with oat milk and chocolate - delicious and not a combination you can find just anywhere. Staff was pleasant. Backless stools not that comfortable for a long sit. Would have been a little nicer if they had a bathroom - we went down the street to Starbucks and used theirs

Very friendly staff, had the cold brew, with oat milk... very good, could not tell the difference.

Great coffee shop, offering a wide selection of coffee (+ cold brew). There is lots of bench seating with one larger table for group work. Not a place where you should expect to stay and chat, but definitely a great spot to grab a coffee if you are on 2nd Avenue.
