"Three Ships Coffee has a few locations in Virginia Beach, along with their own roastery to produce small batches of seasonal coffee. The location in the creative district is full of old nautical decor and serves excellent coffee and pastries. Come in the morning and you’ll get hit immediately with the smell of fresh-baked biscuits, which you should order as a vessel for a breakfast sandwich with eggs and bacon, or with a simple pot of butter and jam. I went here four times during my vacation about a month ago. Every time I came in the staff were extremely welcoming, knowledgeable and approachable. The biscuit had a delicious crunch and layers. The flavour was fantastic. The Kenya pour overs I tasted (3) were consistent, fruity and delicate. The lattes I had gave notes like peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. My one critique with the lattes is that if I came later in the day, they’d taste dry and a bit more over extracted than I’d like. I could be wrong, but cleaning the portafilter baskets more regularly could fix that issue. If I lived in Virginia beach, I would be a regular

This is the most awesome coffee spot at the beach. The crew working here is so friendly and welcoming. They will give great deals on coffee and espresso beans from around the world. The baristas are whipping up the best concoctions. Love IT

Google
Think I’ve found my new go to place to sit down and enjoy a coffee here in Virginia. The drip coffee was fantastic, quality flavour profile and as good as any I’ve had at the antipodean coffee shops in London. The pastries were delicious if a touch sugary (I couldn’t finish this one). I didn’t order any other food and I’d request management to consider adding one or two healthy food options to the menu (if there were I didn’t see any). The music played here was so chill, someone has great taste. The decor and vibe are perfect too. And last but definitely not least the coffee came with two free refills. Looking forward to visiting this wonderful coffee spot again.

Google
Really, what’s not to love here! Non-chain incredible coffee, a relaxing atmosphere, banging baked treats, and a friendly staff; all of these are the reasons to check this place out. It’s these types of cafe’s that really make Starbucks feel so wrong; we need more Three Ships Coffee!

Google
Great customer service always, and a really nice shop with outdoor and a nice indoor space. We’ve been coming here for years, our favorites are their mochas, lattes, pungo lattes., sea salt chocolate cookies and their brisket biscuits. Coffee drinks are a hit or miss depending on who is working.

Google
Honestly the place is super cute but the coffee was below mid. I ordered an iced vanilla latte that tasted straight like milk. No vanilla taste at all and barely any coffee. I even asked if it had a strong coffee taste, as I wanted to add an extra shot of espresso and the barista said it was pretty strong as is. I advise get the extra shot to at least get the taste of coffee 🥲 My bf got a gingerbread latte, this one had authentic gingerbread flavor but as a whole was not a tasty latte.

If you find yourself in Virginia Beach and in need of a delightful caffeine fix, look no further! I just moved to the area a few months ago and this is my go to spot. This coffee shop has everything you need to start your day with a smile. For those who love a cold brew, the land lubber is a favorite that never disappoints. If you're feeling tired and need a little extra boost, the espresso is the perfect pick-me-up! For a more balanced and sweeter taste, I highly recommend the cappuccino…. it truly is the perfect cup. And don't worry if you don’t like coffee, they got you covered with pastries and other goodies. Also if you prefer vegan options, they have a few to choose from. The pastries are always fresh and delicious, making this shop a good place to indulge in a treat or two. Grab a cup of Joe and take a Sandy stroll on the beach or enjoy the laid back atmosphere at the shop. Either way it’s the perfect place for locals and tourist to get quality coffee and snacks!

Google
First time here. I love their coffee , it’s served at Grounded in Newport News. Well I have to say I love ❤️ it! Service was high quality and coffee delicious. Excellent sound track , sorry Grounded you gotta elevate your game music wise.

Yelp
I finally visited this hidden gem in Va Beach! Firstly, the service was excellent! The coffee and my spinach & feta croissant was beyond my expectations. So glad I finally got there. I encourage everyone to try them out

Eva B.

Yelp
I was visiting from LA to visit family. We came across Three Ships and ordered a cappuccino and a latte and the spinach feta croissant to share. We loved the coffee so much we came back to buy their coffee beans!

Troy B.

Yelp
We walked here for coffee on our first morning staying in the area. It is a cool shop. They have coffee, swag, pastries, etc... The coffee of that day was from Guatemala and was just not for me. A little to earthy Definitley try it out... the coffee may be right up your alley

Harrison C.

Yelp
I love three ships! It is the cutest coffee shop in the entire Virginia Beach area! It feels like somewhere on the west coast! I love the vintage coastal vibes with all of the cool art on the walls! The staff is great and move very quickly! It's always very crowded but they serve everyone in a very prompt manner with a smile on their faces! The coffee is also the best in the area! I got an ice latte this time and it was great! It's a must go to when in Virginia Beach!

Cassidy M.

Yelp
I honestly love everything about this shop. The vibe, the drinks, and the service are all worth the visit. I'm always happy when I'm at 3SC. If I've ever had an issue with an order, they always make it right! Great shop for breakfast, beans, merch, or just a coffee because it's never just a coffee at Three Ships.

Libby B.

Yelp
My friends and I came here for coffee and a quick bite to eat for breakfast. It's a really cute cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. I got the iced dirty chai with almond milk and it was alright. For food I got their blueberry muffin which was yummy. The staff were nice.

Cecilia L.

Yelp
Coffee is alright here - they're a much lighter roast here The ambience is pretty good but compared to other coffee in the area this does stand out from the rest.

Meredith M.

Yelp
This beachside coffee shop is a must-visit, even if it's always buzzing with people. The vibe is charming, and despite the crowds, the staff keeps things running smoothly with a smile. They have an impressive selection of coffees and teas, but the matcha offerings are the real standout--definitely don't skip them! Perfect for grabbing a drink before a beach stroll.

Morgan L.

Yelp
Three ships is such a great coffee shop. there are so many coffee shops in Virginia Beach, but three ships absolutely stands out. I had their Pungo latte hot with whole milk, and it was as delicious as can be. This particular latte changes flavors based on the coffee, shops, seasonal offerings, so if you were to try this latte in July, it will probably taste different than it did on this chilly day in November. The atmosphere is peak coffee shop, there's plenty of inside seating and outside seating alike. it's extremely clean! The barista's are experts at their craft, and are kind faces when you're ordering a pick me up. I also had a breakfast sandwich biscuit with ham and egg and cheese. their biscuits are house made, and are absolutely divine... just as one patron I was talking to this morning put it, you have to shove one in your face! You won't get the full three ships experience without one. 10/10 would come back here again (and have, lol)

Jamar S.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for coffee, and usually like to frequent the shops unassociated with the big chains. Three Ships popped up in my GPS while visiting VA Beach for my daughter's track meet & it really hit the spot. The Wife & I got their breakfast wrap and it was delicious. We also got an egg and cheese and were surprised how freshly made things were, as there is a bit of a wait before receiving your food. I got a standard Latte and that was good as well. I would definitely stop in again when I'm in town in a few weeks.

Kailee P.

Yelp
Incredible biscuit sandwiches and very good coffee. Lots to choose from. Cute spot to hang out

Jim W.

Yelp
Seen this on several YouTube videos and wanted to give it a try. Nothing special inside or out, large space for lots to gather. Got two 'large' mocha iced coffees, they were what I would consider to be a medium (16 ounces). Not as much chocolate as we would like and vibe was more of a neighborhood place. It was okay.

Lys B.

Yelp
Went here and was rather disappointed. I tried to order half caffeinated cappuccino, and the cashier asked the barista in front of me - she was rather snarky "we can't do that!" They said they pull double shots and can only do full decaf or full caffeine. The second miss was their cappuccino is only 8 ounces. I guess I've been spoiled with my local coffee shop, but they always make a point to say what the size is and verify which option the customer wants. The menu didn't say it was an 8 ounce drink, and the cashier also failed to mention it. I asked for steamed milk and made it a 16 ounce cappuccino. For the prices, I honestly expect much better service. Good coffee, poor customer service and bad attitudes from the baristas.

Yelp
I love going out for coffee on Saturday mornings so my boyfriend and I headed to Three Ships Coffee Roasters since it was a place we've been wanting to try for a while. We actually got there around 11:30am and the line wasn't too long but there were quite a few people sitting in the dining area. Since we hadn't been there before, we asked for recommendations and were told the Pecan Molasses Cappuccino was a great choice. The lady taking our order described it as an 8 oz cup of decadent espresso made with whole milk (oat and almond milk were options as well) that was slightly sweet and savory so I definitely wanted to try it. My boyfriend decided to order the Mocha Cappuccino since he loves chocolatey coffee drinks. After we ordered our drinks, we were informed that the kitchen had already closed but they still had previously baked goods for sale. The cappuccinos were served in the cutest of mugs and tasted phenomenal. The drink was creamy due to it being made with whole milk and the espresso was rich in taste but not overwhelming or too strong. We absolutely loved the cappuccino art on top as well, it was the icing on the cake. Since we did decide to sit in and enjoy our drinks, there was very limited seating and the area we did find seating at was at a corner table with two high top chairs. Unfortunately, the music speaker, which was also on top of the table, was pretty loud which made it hard for us to hear each other talk. Overall, we both agreed that the drinks were absolutely amazing and that we would definitely return. The cost of both drinks was under $20 which we thought was really good seeing as though it was a specialty coffee shop. Next time, we will definitely get there sooner so that we can sit at a table, not by the speaker lol, and enjoy our coffee.

Yelp
One of my new favorite coffee shops in Hampton Roads. Came to work for a few hours and it's the perfect place for that. Private wifi that worked really well the whole time, even with lots of other people also working and on calls. They also have free parking which is a huge plus near the oceanfront. It is shared with the neighboring establishments though, so I could definitely foresee it getting busy. I ordered the seasonal Pungo Latte, which was strawberry and it was delicious. One of the best lattes I've actually ever had. Loved the freshness and uniqueness of the strawberry syrup. A few hours later, when hungry, I went back and ordered the kale panini which was recommended by the employee and it was also delicious. Served hot, melty and crunchy. Absolutely will be back!

Barbara Rachel B.

Yelp
It looked like a cute little neighborhood coffee shop. The day we went the food was not available which was a disappointment. The service was just "eh". The baristas do not add anything to your drink except the syrups. They had a tiny little area with creamer, simple syrup and a couple of other sweeteners where you have to make it yourself, but they want tips? Not happening... We tip very well when deserved. The coffee was just ok, nothing to brag about. We won't be back.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Totally amazing. I had their Kenya Rioki Estate on my visit a month ago and it was the single best coffee I've ever had and I've run the gamut from East to West and in between. It was a truly unique coffee and top-notch. I wish it were easier to get to the West Coast. The flat white and cold brew were tasty, too, but the Rioki pourover took the prize!

A G.

Yelp
The atmosphere and the food/ drink was tasty but the fact that they refused to accept cash is inconvenient and probably illegal. Not everybody can or wants to have their money tied to credit cards. Not to mention the lack of equity in excluding people who only have cash. I probably won't be going back but wanted to post here about the cash refusal to give a heads up to others who might be interested in trying it.

Nicholas E.

Yelp
Best coffee in town and super chill atmosphere inside. Friendly staff and the food is awesome too!

Bill K.

Yelp
If you're particular about your coffee, and find yourself in VB and in need of your caffeine fix, this is where you want to be. Home roasted beans, home made almond milk, and a staff who seriously knows what they're doing. The blend, the roast, the grind, the pull, the pour - all top notch. We had a cappuccino, a honey cortado, and a shot of espresso. An A-plus across the board. If the finer points of coffee matter to you, try this place first. We have yet to find better tasting espresso in VB.

Ann L.

Yelp
Got the vanilla latte mostly because I wanted something simple and it was only $6, when checking out the price was actually $6.75 which was different from the menu. The staff said the menu is wrong and they are in the process of updating it. The cashier lowered the price to $6.05 which was nice. I don't mind the price or the menu being wrong honestly, I get things are getting expensive. Coffee was actually quite nice and tasty but as someone who has gone to almost all the other coffee shops in the area I still think Bad Ass Coffee is better and cheaper. The atmosphere of three ships is quite nice though! Good for reading a book or a cute date

Mike G.

Yelp
I am a coffee snob/traditionalist. I judge coffee shops on the quality of their espresso. Most places don't do it fully correctly but Three Ships does! They served my espresso with a side of sparkling water. My wife got a macchiato made the real way, not the American way. We also got a biscuit and honey. Very delicious. I appreciate the dedication to the art of drinking espresso.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Three Ships is one of my favorite coffee roasters in the 757. Their baristas are highly trained, friendly, and welcome you in with a smile. Their coffee is also really, really good, and so is their food and pastry selection. My go to is the Becky biscuit, and it's my favorite breakfast sandwich to grab on the go. The biscuit is flaky, fluffy and fresh. Order the Pungo latte in the seasonal flavor! The cafe is good for meet-ups, a solo coffee date or even to work a little bit. Grab a buddy and check it out!

Leslie R.

Yelp
Barista friends recommended Three Ships to me and suggested that I come to this location. I am so glad that I did! I tried the strawberry Pungo latte and it was perfectly balanced! I also enjoyed the ham, egg, and cheese biscuit and would be interested in trying other items from their menu in the future. I really enjoyed the vibe for remote work. There were plenty of seats, including tables located near outlets.

Kate M.

Yelp
I am in town for work and stopped by this local coffee shop in Virginia Beach. It was so cute and cozy inside and had a great menu with lots of options. I just grabbed a coffee since I had to get back for work, but the coffee was so delicious and fresh. On the way out I was taking a photo of my coffee and ran into the owner when I was taking my picture and he was so nice and friendly! I will be going back for sure before we hit the road back home!

Lisa O.

Yelp
What a great coffee shop to meet friends. Their coffee is a little stronger style. My friend and my niece love this style. We have all gotten the Pungo Latte because this is what they are known for. I thought the coffee over powered the flavor that was supposed to be strawberry. Hopefully they will get better when spring comes and strawberries are in season. Maybe that is what is going on. I'm getting it out of season. We love getting a sweet treat with our coffee. We all saw the beautiful homemade poptarts. They were a bit over cooked , dry and not very flavorful. I am so sad. I really want to love this place. It is picture perfect inside and out. I love the wood decor and the absolutely beautiful mural inside. They have such lovely glasses that they put their iced lattes in. The staff are nice and it is really clean inside. Parking is interesting. Off season is great. But they have quite a few events on the weekends so parking is sometimes a challenge. I am sticking with a solid 2 stars because I think the poptarts were not great and the coffee fell flat on the strawberry flavor. We are going back to see if we can get some different coffees and hopefully we can pop up the stars because I really see endless potential if I find something I like. The service is not very good either.

Adelaide S.

Yelp
The horchata was.... interesting to say the least. ZERO cinnamon. just tasted like milk and lime???? also NOT nut allergy safe as it has almonds in it. disappointed. on the other hand, the employees are angels! two stars for customer service. seriously though, what is that horchata recipe?? just can't get over the quality. needed much more cinnamon, much less almonds.

Dan D.

Yelp
The highest quality latte / coffee you will get in the oceanfront area. Food is delicious as well, and perfect for a light morning eat. Service is fantastic. Baristas are knowledgeable on the coffee served. Thank you!

Amy W.

Yelp
They have great coffee! Their selection of treats looked delicious as well. I went for a latte and chocolate chip cookie. They have a great space and their staff is friendly. This place is a most, don't miss out.

Katherine L.

Yelp
Smooth cold brew & solid breakfast burrito. Good service with lots of seating options inside.

Natalie K.

Yelp
Finally has a chance to visit this place, as it has been on my list for a long time and it did not disappointed! Me and my friend got: - Landlubber cold brew (cream+vanilla syrup) a subtly sweet cold brew, very tasty for those who doesnt like their coffee too sweet. - Hot latte (whole milk)- a house-blend coffee bean has a very unique taste, I like it. - Deluxe Avocado toast: the pickle onion and house special spice really add a nice kick to the dish - DIY Biscuit sammy: they let you make your own combo. The staff were friendly and never hesitate to help you with the menu. I will definitely come back to try other stuff.

Philip M.

Yelp
NOT what I expect from a coffee house CASHLESS BUSINESS HERE! I met one of my clients here to try something new in the VB area. The atmosphere is boring and lack luster as other reviews state correctly, felt like we were the only ones there in an empty soundless room(box). I ordered and the girls(employees) said that they don't do macchiatos there so I ordered a double espresso at over $4. I broke out a $20 bill only to be shut down immediately with a credit card ONLY policy, so I paid with my credit card and still tipped staff 25%. But really?!?, as long as Biden taxanomics are your policies, we will not be back or recommend this business with no CASH options available. **If you keep deleting my reviews, I will keep reposting your unprofessionalism. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g58277-d10500200-r935615860-Three_Ships_Coffee_Roasters-Virginia_Beach_Virginia.html#

P B.

Yelp
I used to really love three ships but the three times I have gone they never have decaf. I switched to decaf while pregnant. Wait in a long line to be told they dont have it, but I can order tea. Go to Fathom coffee, they never are "out" of decaf and the coffee is just as good. Also you dont have to wait forever for your coffee like you do at Ships.

Abbey H.

Yelp
I am a barista so I always try to try out new roasters when I am out of town. Hands down this is the best coffee in va beach. The iced americanos were so balanced and smooth. Friendly service as well.

Phoebe D.

Yelp
High quality coffee but a bit overpriced. I tried the seasonal Strawberry Pungo latte, which only had a very subtle strawberry flavor and was not quite sweet enough for my tastes. The coffee is very good and tastes high quality, but it seems like they only offer the 10oz size for their lattes for the same price that you could get 16oz somewhere else, so I didn't think it was quite worth it. The cafe is very spacious though and within walking distance to the beach.

Mike C.

Yelp
Short walk from the coastline to this beautiful and calming coffee shop. I ended up coming here Sunday and Monday on my two night trip because the coffee was bold and full of flavor. On the second day I went to order there most expensive hand pour coffee and the barrista asked me if I take it with cream, when I said yes she stated the hand pour is pretty weak and does not require cream. WOW! I love the honesty and she saved me as I went with the drip coffee on the second day as well due to the fact I enjoy some cream with my coffee in the mornings. Suggestions to improve : Offer more then one size on the coffee (I was tempted to order a second cup but over $6.00 for morning coffee intake seemed silly to me). Leave stirrers out and a bottle of cream and/or milk. You have to ask for these things at the current time I guess due to Covid.

Faris N.

Yelp
This is hand down one of the best cafes I've ever visited. Everything is truly made in house. Staff is so approachable, positive, and helpful. Seriously, do yourself a favor and grab a latte there

Denise K.

Yelp
Would not return, the coffee is mediocre & I paid $14 (without tip) for two coffees this size. With all the other great options in Virginia Beach & Norfolk, I wouldn't bother.

Arelis L.

Yelp
Breakfast burrito was tasty. Caramel latte and cold brew was good. Fun and cool art all around building.

Dan P.

Yelp
Nice ambiance and theme. Special blend was a especially bad - weak, bitter and tangy not smooth. Avocado toast bread was good but the egg was cold. Had a dirty fork, asked woman behind counter if I could get a new fork and she looked at me like I was putting her out. Had to go into kitchen to ask for a clean fork. They obliged. They said they were too busy for pour overs and poured us coffee from a carafe. We made two trips to bring coffees and number to our table. We bused our own tables, had to go to kitchen to get a new fork and they asked for a tip.

Genoa D.

Yelp
It's giving Beachside Hipster vibes. Love the classic wooden interior. The service area sits in the middle of the dining room, seating available near the window, at the bar, in the dining area, outside in the alley and outside on the front patio. I can appreciate a busy cafe with adequate seating. The service is typically friendly and helpful. They have a nice selection of freshly roasted beans. A complimentary coffee, espresso or cold brew offered with bean purchase. Sweet deal. The chai is flavorful and sweetened. The coffee is fresh and they make house almond milk. Love that! If you like lemongrass and prefer herbal infusions you'll like their tonic. As for food, my go to is the Breakfast Biscuits. Everything is made to order, customizable and delicious. I haven't further explored the food menu but honestly don't think you can go wrong with their offerings. Overall I like this place. Vibes change throughout the week and I prefer the soulful early morning vibes during the week compared to their busy Sat and Sunday brunch vibes. Don't forget to join the loyalty program!

Danny W.

Yelp
I truly do not understand the hype around Three Ships. Upon arrival to VB I was told that this was the best coffee shop in town, so naturally I had to try it. From the snarky barista who acted as though I was a foul heathen for asking about flavor options, I ordered a standard iced latte and the most miserable cauliflower disaster that left me nauseous for the rest of the day. Seriously, don't even know what that was supposed to be. But hey, I was new and maybe I just was over thinking things. Here we are a year later, I take my friend to Three Ships because my favorite coffee shop was closed and it was cold outside. I was met by a lovely barista who seemed as though watching grass grow would have been better than taking our order. I ordered another forgettable coffee, this time hot, which I will admit was notably better than its icy counterpart but still rather sad. The shop has a darker ambiance to it, much like the super popular coffee franchise who shall not be named, which isnt the best for social time but is nice for getting work done or reading a book. Also there's a gravel parking lot for Three Ships (and others) that makes going there super easy, niccce! With the exception of the rather pompous staff, the vibe and parking are the only reasons this isnt a one star review. Overall, I've had a better experience with a Wawa coffee.

Meghan M.

Yelp
We visited twice while in Virginia Beach. It was fine , but very overpriced. $15 for a latte and 2 black coffees.

James G.

Yelp
Ordered a Large Caramel Macchiato , sorry we only have one size 8oz . Ok, and we don't have Caramel just Vanilla ok. and we don't do Macchiato but it will taste like one. So in the end it was mostly milk with maybe 2 oz of coffee and an indistinguishable flavor. $7 and I did leave a tip, but I won't go back. Not a very good first impression.

Austin G.

Yelp
Three Ships Coffee Roaster is one of the best coffee shops in Virginia Beach. Here's why: 1) Coffee: It's very good and their menu diverse. They have lattes, espressos, anything. They also have seasonal simple syrups like butternut squash and all kinds of sweeteners and milks. 2) Space: It's a beautiful space that's gutted during the pandemic. They have outdoor seating. 3) Service: The barista was super nice and welcoming. 4) Food: They have a variety of better-for-you foods and pastries like biscuits.

Kimi S.

Yelp
One of our friends generously gifted us a bag of Three Ships "Steady Hands" coffee after she overheard my husband mention that they make some of the best cold brew he's ever had. Well we've been making coffee every morning (lattes for me and cold brew for him) and every morning has started with a lip smacking sigh of pleasure. It's seriously that good! I've been messaging with their team on Instagram for some recommendations on what to order next and the crew is SO friendly! They even gave a shout out to some DC roasters to check out. Love this community and can't wait to go back the 757 for an in-person visit.

Mary R.

Yelp
ORDER THEIR HOME MADE POPTARTS! Just do it! No really. Order one. They had the nutella flavored one when I went there....and talk about orgasmic! Their coffee, lattes, espressos, mochas....ect.... are quite delightful. They were under constructions and Igor was painting their sign at the time. Outdoor seating available. No indoor sitting at that time. Parking are is available. This location is awesome! Check out the other stores near by...Pink Dinghy, North End Bag Co, Jars of dust and Igor's Custom Signs and Stripes!

Richard W.

Yelp
Three Ships Coffee Roasters is the kind of funky, hip local coffee shop I love to visit. Do to Covid concerns the inside is closed; but there is a take out window available. The cashier was friendly and knowledgeable about the coffee options they offer. I had their Landlubbers Cold Brew which is flavored with half and half and housemate vanilla. The coffee was delicious, rich coffee flavor and the perfect balance of sweet and cream. I also had a country ham biscuit. The biscuit was hot and buttery and the thinly freshly shaved country ham was not overly salty. Three Ships Coffee Roasters in not far from the beach, you can actually walk it on a nice day and is the perfect place for morning Joe and breakfast sandwich.

Scout P.

Yelp
Great service, good coffee, chill atmosphere. Love coming here when I'm in VA beach! The vibe is really cool and they have super cute merch and a lot of seating. Also 2 nice bathrooms.
