Tio Fun - Review - Franklin - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Tio Fun is the fast-casual weeknight solution when it’s 5:12pm,  everyone’s hungry, and nobody wants to negotiate. It’s the second location for the restaurant (theoriginalis in Nashville’s Buchanan District), and it buzzes like a Friday even on a Tuesday. The menu is a comfort-forward sweep of ginormous plate-sized tacos, pocho nachos, citrusy margaritas that don’t skimp on the lime, and the best tortilla chips in town. It’s delightfully kitschy (yes, that’s a cardboard cut-out of Selena by the door), and built for groups—easy to park and even easier to order. Keep it in your back pocket for last-minute meetups and any night that calls for something fun without the hassle of a waitlist." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Nashville’s Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings, Spring 2024 | Eater Nashville

"Mikey Corona and Brian Riggenbach are opening a second Tio Fun in Franklin this May, bringing a fast-casual Mexican menu that draws on Corona’s Hispanic heritage with flour tortilla tacos, quesadillas, and frozen margaritas as well as eye-catching items like pochos (potato spirals piled with nacho toppings), foot-long Tijuana-inspired hot dogs, and Mikey’s Super Taco that requires two hands to conquer." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

This taco place is amazing! The food is delicious and fresh, and the portions are really generous 👌 The service is super friendly and fast. Honestly, a great experience I totally recommend trying it! 🌮💯

I stumbled upon this place after a quick search on Apple Maps. I’ve been wanting to give it a try for ages. It was quite lively since it was dinner time. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of parking, and they even have outdoor seating. It’s a fast-casual spot, so you just place your order and take a seat with a number. I told the worker that I needed a bit of time because I’m new to the place. I went with the taco combo, and I also ordered a side of chips. They asked me about my salsa preference, and I chose the jalapeño cremosa. I asked for a cup of water, and they gave me one. I settled in and waited. When I went to grab my drink, I asked the guy if I needed a number or if they knew where I was sitting. He said he knew where I was, so I sat back down. The place was quite noisy, but as usual, I plugged in my AirPods and drowned out the sound. After a while, I noticed they were busy packing to-go orders. I was surprised when the same guy who took my order brought me a bag to my table. But guess what? He forgot to deliver my salsa or any utensils. I went back up and asked for them, and he handed me some plastic to-go utensils. I can’t believe they thought that was for to-go. I clearly asked for a number for my table and a cup of water from one of their cute, nostalgic plastic cups. But I un-bagged everything and started eating. Now, the tacos were small, but they were really tasty. I loved the flavor. The rice was a bit old and clumpy, though. The beans were good. The chips were freshly made, but they were a bit greasy and a tad too salty. But hey, there were quite a few of them, so it made up for it. Overall, for the combo and a side of chips, it was $18, which is a bit pricey.

Our first time in. We had a hard time ordering but it seemed like the person taking orders was in training. They were basically whispering so that combined with the music made it harder than ordering at a counter should be. Food was good, but not outstanding. The menu didn't fully describe the dish contents, so I ended up picking things out of the bowl I ordered We got excited about the bar - but the woman working it didnt seem to know anything about the drink menu options, so we just ordered a house margarita. It was disappointing. Best thing about this place was the Playlist, if i'm being honest.

Google
The tacos were good, but you gotta specify if you want corn tortillas—mine came in flour, which was fine, but I prefer corn. The chips were awesome, and the salsa was so-so. If you love Taco Bell beans, get 'em, otherwise, they're a hard pass. BUT I'd totally go back for their carnitas and pastor tacos and chips!

GROSS don’t even waste your time. 2 teenage girls who didn’t smile or say anything to start. Paper plates small portions that were HORRIBLE. Check out the pictures. They say it all! (Pathetic Salad, burnt quesadilla and dry tacos)

Yall. Go get breakfast tacos! Like I would go now. I can’t believe we have this in Franklin! And I’m not sure how Oscar’s, Mojo’s, or any number of other spots are gonna keep up if Tio Fun catches on. Ingredients are fresh and delicious! Homemade flour tortillas! Fresh Corn tortillas (that aren’t from whatever company that everyone gets their mediocre tortillas from in middle TN). Margs are sooooo good! We gotta support these guys! Holy smokes you’re gonna love it!

Google
D Tier Tacos. Very expensive and very small portions of protein came on my tacos. The barbacoa and pollo tacos tasted okay, but both contained more shell than anything. The green salsa was horrible and the red sauce tasted like pizza buffet pizza sauce! You get absolutely no side garnishes except a very very small lime slice. For as expensive as it is, I was surprised to see my food served on paper plates. Dined as soon as it opened and it was dead and the staff was goofing around. I have to say this place is a Pass for sure.

Google
Great food, fun, casual atmosphere. Came here for lunch and our party had the Steak Lonche, the Mini Mexican “Pizza” and some chips and queso. They have really interesting food options and it was all very tasty! We ate outside but ambience is great either way.

Yelp
Decent reviews gave me hope for a Mexican place with convenient parking to get in/out easily for takeout. My Pork Melt came with soggy, under-salted fries, and was served on Texas toast which wasn't really toasted and became a wilted mess. The outside-top bread slice had sauce drizzled on it which didn't help the situation. If you like sandwiches lacking structure, this is for you. I did notice a couple carrots in the meat, but can't say they were pickled as menu mentioned. Carrot slice count was about five--so few I forgot there were supposed to be any. Meat was okay, not too much fat. Flavor okay--nothing exciting. Really needed pickled veg counterbalance, and toasted bread for texture variety. Fries: 1 out of 5 for cool twisty shape. Sammy: 2 of 5 for expected (enough) meat, albeit boring. Service: 5 of 5 for fast bagged takeaway (it was even kindly brought outside where I was waiting). Minus half star for staff's lack of menu knowledge. If you have food allergy, I wouldn't be certain you'll get your questions answered.

Yelp
Festive atmosphere! The disco balls, lively music, pinwheels and piñatas are all a fun touch. Service was friendly and with a smile! We had a barrio bowl and it was very similar to a burrito bowl from Chipotle. Great flavor and very generous portion size. I split it with my son and we didn't even finish it.

Yelp
Tio Fun has such an eclectic vibe--it really feels like a hidden gem just off the historic downtown of Franklin, Tennessee. The inside is cute and trendy, making it a great spot to grab a bite. The food itself was very good! I tried the pollo tacos and a side of fries, and the fries had a unique taco seasoning that I absolutely loved. We also ordered chips and queso--the queso was delicious, though the chips were a bit too greasy for my taste. The portions are pretty good, and I was stuffed when we left! A few small downsides: The prices were a little steep for what you get. The cups were small, so we had to get up for refills-- and you bus your own table, which made tipping feel a bit odd. That said, the staff was friendly, and the overall experience was enjoyable. The inside is very very clean and well taken care of. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for something fun and flavorful! Parking is free and there is plenty all around the restaurant, which is always nice when near the Nashville area! We will be back for sure. I am already craving the fries again!

Yelp
We tried to get into Mojo's, but it was wall to wall almost floor to ceiling full of taco eaters. So, rather than trying to part the Red Sea, we went with plan "B." Tio Fun was our backup, but in all honesty, it should have been our plan "A"! The food at Tio's is fantastic! Mojo's is good, but Tio's takes tacos to the next level. Super fresh and super delicious. Top quality people serving top quality ingredients. There are a number of taco choices ranging from exotic to basic. But let me tell you, the basic isn't just basic. It ain't your everyday taco folks. The flavors stuffed in those tortillas are a culinary delight. You can taste the heritage. They know what they're doing here at Tio Fun. Take, for instance, the tortilla chips. Plain ol' tortilla chips. However, there's nothing plain about them. They're the best I've ever had, and I'm not kidding. One bite, and you'll say, dang, that Alex J. knows what he's talking about! Yes, my dear reader, I certainly do. If the chips are that good, what about the tacos? I'm here to testify that my barbacoa taco, my fat barbacoa taco, was perfectly wonderful. Full of goodness and full to the point where some of the insides dropped to the plate, requiring you to pinch it up with your fingers, and then give them the obligatory lick. There's nothing wrong with licking the fingers. When it comes to this taste, all moral convention goes out the window. In our case, into the parking lot. We sat outside. A Barrio bowl, Jackfruit taco, breakfast tacos, and twisty fries rounded out our fare for the evening. All were impressive and worthy of praise. Don't forget the sweet hot sauce. It's sticky good. Try Tio first and let Mojo's be your plan B. Hey, maybe that should be their slogan! Quick Tip: If you like music with your meal there's no problem. At Tio Fun, you'll hear all the top hits from the 80's. You've got Abba to Madonna with a few country westerns sprinkled in. All sung in beautiful Spanish. You know the words, so sign along amigo.

Yelp
So glad we tried this place. So we ordered the barrio bowl with steak (I added rice and romaine), barrio bowl with jackfruit, kids chicken quesadilla came with fries and a drink, mango agua Fresca and churros. Yall everything was delicious! We all cleaned our plates. I have to mention their twisted fries, they were so yummy I wanted to order more to take some home. The churros were really good they had a really good caramel filling also. The customer service was good. I can't wait to go back and try other items.

Yelp
Tio Fun delivers the experience its name suggests - this place is FUN, and it has quickly entered my regular restaurant rotation. Piñatas and pinwheels and streamers galore, I can't help but smile when walking in. The smile stays set on my face as my eyes skim over the menu. There are some comforting classics, but there are also some playful twists, like the elote which is dusted with FLAMING HOT CHEETOS (!!!) The margaritas are something I would love to consume every single summer afternoon. They're the kind of strong that really only requires one, but nonetheless you end up downing two. You feel? Now that I've dined here on several occasions, I will say there is a clear standout on the menu. An item that's just so darn tasty & fun, it incites order envy : the Torta de Chilaquiles. Order it now, thank me later. Tio Fun is such a funky, cool, and crave-able spot, I almost worry I made it up. Please tell me this place is real!!!!????

Yelp
Had lunch at Tio Fun today and was absolutely delighted! The ambiance is shabby and could use some sprucing up, however the service and the food more than make up for it. The Barrio bowl was a generous portion of deliciousness!! The photo (photo of barbacoa, not el pastor) does not do it justice. Spanish rice, crisp romaine, tomatoes, sautéed onions and peppers, guacamole and in my case selected el pastor from the lovely list of proteins. All of this was gluten free and celiac safe. Will be returning soon. :-)

Yelp
We love this place! We like that the tortillas chips are house made and the street tacos are yum! On nice days, we enjoy sitting outside on their patio. The service is usually quick and correct! We will continue to go back for good food!

Yelp
I've been wanting to go to the one in Nashville but haven't made it. So glad we stopped in! The margarita is so good - it's fresh and flavorful (not artificial). We also had their michelada which was outstanding! Chips and salsa were so good! Chips are going to be not your average chips which we loved! Al Pastor taco was great - love the salsa it came with! Like it should be bottled up and sold, if it isn't! Now the hot dog was insane. It's shareable, messy, delicious and works! Loved the music in here - a bit loud for us but great music! The ambiance is fun, quirky and just a good time! Plus they have an outdoor patio too! Staff was fantastic as well! Definitely coming back! The only gripe was the flies in the bathroom. I think you need a bug zapper in there. Food, Drinks, Ambiance & Staff were great!

Yelp
Traditional Tex-Mex. Second trip to Top Fun- first trip decided to get the food to go since it seemed a bit "smoky" from kitchen cooking. First trip I ordered a bit of everything and asking if their tortillas were homemade, the flour are, I opted for flour. The best totopos or tortilla chips, house made- not just heated in the restaurant. These are freshly fried, a bit greasy but very tasty! We ordered the guac and chips (appreciated it was a la Mexicana- prepared.) And if you try it with their medium freshly made green salsa- delicious! On my first first visit, I ordered corn on a cup. It was lukewarm. Usually I've always had it hot and I prefer white corn in corn in a cup, but that would push the price up. (Had it been hot, it would have been great, since it was sabroso! The meat in the tacos- excellent! These rice was dry, I prefer not such a dry rice but we did go later in the evening. We will return! Way to go Tío Fun!

Yelp
We went the first time and found it to be okay. There have been several restaurants in this spot and none have lasted so I will be curious to see how this one does. It's easy to find and they seem to have a fair amount of parking. They serve draft beer and the service was quite pleasant. There is an outdoor seating area in the front which was very nice, especially on a perfect fall evening. I ordered two tacos: Special - Pumpkin, Chorizo and goat cheese - Outstanding! If I had two of these I would have been very happy. I know it's a seasonal offering but I'd consider keeping this one. I was a bit suspicious of pumpkin on a taco but it was perfect to compliment the spicy chorizo. Kudos on even thinking this one up! I also ordered a breakfast taco, chorizo, egg and cheese. That one was fine. Nothing that made me think I'd need to order this again but very edible. We ordered Chips with Guacamole and the chips were quite overcooked and so they were a bit tough. The guacamole was just unremarkable, lacked much flavor. So an okay outing at Two Fun, some high's, some not so high's. Might need a return just to see which is indicative of the real Tio Fun.

Yelp
Love their Taco Tuesday deals. The breakfast tacos, asada tacos, and salsas all hit the mark, but the greatness is in their house-made tortillas--the backbone of every taco here.

Yelp
This place was so much fun. First the decor is nice and you don't feel like you are sitting super close to your neighbors. Second the food comes out quickly and cooked to order. The staff is willing to answer any question you may have. The food itself is amazing. Some of the best tacos and chips and salsa I've had in awhile.
google avatar

Yelp
Great Mexican street grub! Margaritas are terrific too. Love the sweet heat sauce. I've had the street tacos (excellent) and the quesadilla (so good and huge). Laid back hang. Outdoor seating.

Yelp
So yummy! Very nice staff! Carnitas is amazing! Great salsa! Closet to CA Mexican we've come across.

Yelp
Visited Tio Fun at their Franklin location on a Saturday evening and the place was bustling by 5:30 p.m. One of the owner's actually took our order and was so so friendly. Our Chips and Pochos came out quickly, but our Steak Lonche took some time to arrive. Everything was delicious and we will return!

Yelp
This is one of or favorite neighborhood restaurants. The food is super. I recommend the tacos, but the torta also is awesome. It's also a great place to celebrate your birthday. The service makes it. We keep coming back again and again

Yelp
I've been wondering about Tio Fun! and finally went after a recommendation from a local. I'm so glad to see another food option in Franklin. The menu is full of untraditional takes on standard offerings, so I took a few minutes to weigh my options. Every item has a vegetarian alternative (thank you, thank you)! I wound up ordering the massive breakfast burrito and a steak tostada and was very happy with both. Especially the crisp of the tostada. A large portion of the burrito came home with me - there was no chance I would finish that. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming. It was fun to recognize popular music in the background - all familiar songs but sung in Spanish. Staff was helpful and friendly. Parking was easy. I recommend Tio Fun! for anyone. It's a spot for families, casual dates or groups.

Yelp
Not bad. Not great. Very interesting menu. Had 2 tacos, meat small amount and not authentic. Having lived in Houston for 30 years, a little disappointed. Had the bowl. Half lettuce and have rice. Veggies and Sl Pastor. Pretty average but they were trying so hard. Wanted to really like it. Probably once and done.

Yelp
Tio Fun was a great lunch spot with my friends! Casual, convenient, delicious. I had the steak lonche sandwich. Phenomenal. The unique fries were incredible as well. Highly recommend. My boss even treated us to churros. They were caramel stuffed and an excellent sweet treat to take our Friday lunch to the next level.

Yelp
Went here for the first time on Tuesday for dinner with some friends. This restaurant was so cute! It was not crowded at all. I ordered the chicken quesadilla which was good. My friend got the ponchos which were really delicious too. I loved the seasoning on them. I had an Agua Fresca which was fresh as well. Service was quick and friendly. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised/impressed. Great food, friendly staff, reasonable pricing. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
This is such a cute spot off Main St in Franklin. The tacos are delicious and my favorite part is they serve breakfast tacos all day. They also have a great happy hour from 3-6pm everyday!

Yelp
Ordered buy 1 get 1 chicken and carnitas tacos on uber eats. So good!!! We devoured them. Will definitely be checking out the dine in experience soon

Yelp
a great new addition to the city of franklin! this restaurant is located only a couple blocks off the main street and we were so happy we got to try it today! my friend and i both got the barrio bowls and the portions were huge!! they were also super flavorful. you definitely get what you pay for here which is super nice. my friend also tried their churros and she enjoyed them! the energy in the restaurant is so great and all customers looked happy and satisfied! we will definitely be going back here in the future to try more items :)

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great food and great owners. I've eaten here a few times and really enjoyed it! The food and drinks are great.

Yelp
Came here for lunch today. Fun, casual atmosphere (we ate outside--cutlery/plating is also casual) and really interesting food options. We got the chips and queso (chips were especially good) to accompany my Steak Lonche and my wife's Mini Mexican "Pizza". Food was very tasty. My sandwich was delicious, the side of fries was well seasoned. Very good, and we'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
What's all the fuss about? We spent $35 and all I had was a sub par chicken taco (they use thigh meat and even with onions and cilantro it was flavorless). Husband got the smothered hot dog. He stomached half of it. Their white queso was thickened with flour and was very heavy after a while. (Flavor acceptable.) Chips had a good taste but were doused in oil and heavy/greasy to eat... They serve Mexican Cokes (a plus) and we each had a lime-ade. $35 was pricy for all of it I checked out other plates and didn't see anything to make me want to return. Too bad.
google avatar

Yelp
Had the barrio bowl and a churro, both were amazing! Highly recommend stopping by and trying it out!

Dianne J.

Yelp
We gave it three stars for the quick service we received but overall average at best. The atmosphere was rather loud but clean. We wish we knew more about the various Mexican food terms offered on the wall menu as we were not familiar with many. We are not of Hispanic origin or background which would be helpful. My salad was fine but small and my husband's quesadilla was mainly cheese. My husband's drink was a lemonade for $4.00. The prices are a bit inflated for what you get and the amount served. We are glad we checked it out but don't think we will be returning anytime soon.

Jeff E.

Yelp
Me and my wife visited for the first time on Saturday. We wish we had discovered this place sooner! Great food and margaritas! Chips are fresh and homemade. We can't wait to come back and try more items off the menu!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Totally fun/funky casual vibe! Had the toasted coconut marg. Took a minute to grow on me but loved it and wanted more by the time I was done! Nachos with carnitas = yum. The chips- seem greasy at first, but are so crispy/crunchy (and stay that way with toppings!) you just can't stop. Don't think 4 stars is bad. I just rarely give 5, & could see upgrading when I've been there more than once. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Kim N.

Yelp
Update - Yelp won't let me increase by a half star but 3.5. Margarita glasses have been upgraded from kids plastic cups to nice glasses. The6 continue to offer paper plates. Queso had good flavor but was way too thin. Homemade chips are terrible, thin and greasy. Still love the carnitas tacos.
google avatar

Joe W.

Yelp
Cute Mexican spot. Great munchies options. Staff was friendly and had a nice ambiance. Seating inside is limited. We tried many of the food options here as we came as a group and many things seemed to be shareable. Portion sizes were very small but very pricey for the size. Agua fresca drink size was basically a shot and definitely a better value to get a Mexican bottled coke. Quesadilla was large but filled with a white cheese (maybe mozzarella) what was not our favorite in a quesadilla, carnitas tacos had great flavor, steak taco was pretty bland. Guacamole was chunky avocado and was pretty small with not enough chips (chips are fantastic and fresh made)x We ordered a large spicy salsa which had great flavor. We also ordered the loaded fries (pochos) which were soft fries served with a lot of wet toppings. Corn in a cup was our favorite and closest we've gotten to mexican loaded elote in the area. All in all not a bad spot but would probably only come for a quick snack.

Yelp
Hubs and I stopped in for lunch to check this new place out; we got some chips and guac and "large" salsa and each got two tacos. Hubs liked his chicken tacos; my barbacoa was very good; steak was tender but agree with others a bit bland. Didn't get a margarita but based on reviews I wish I had. My biggest recco is to do something about the chips and salsa..I appreciate the chips are clearly made on site but they were indeed very greasy and the basket we got was full of...chiplettes...likened to getting "the bottom of the chip bag" by hubs. I liked the spicy salsa but it was a very small portion and in general I think esp if you are buying other food, chips and a decent size salsa should be complimentary. The guac was fresh but also a bit bland and definitely pricey. Service was very good and friendly and the restaurant is very bright and cheerful; we will probably be back to try some of their other unique items as we think it is a great addition to the area!

Mary C.

Yelp
Just don't go $25 per person for uneatable food Chips Dripping in visible grease to go with the bottle tasting salsas The music was ear splitting loud The sun is beating down through the window You order at a counter and serve yourself. The tables wobbled as the plates were skidding off the uneven tables The best I can say was the overpriced margarita was decent There is nothing that would ever make me eat there again. We threw the food away and left . Because , yes, you even bus your own tables # of stars zero

Yelp
Ugh!! Mexican Fast Food in downtown Franklin. Such a disappointment. Fast food in a fun environment is still just fast food We do not recommend !

Cris D.

Yelp
Nothing more than an indoor Californicated food truck. Complete with West Coast prices. We miss you Izzy's. Please come back home. No way this place survives in the same zip code as Mojo's.

Melinda T.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing and the atmosphere was so relaxing. We waited to go after lunch because it was so packed. At lunch time I recommend everyone to go try this restaurant they won't be disappointed at all.

Jessica V.

Yelp
So cute and family friendly! Fast, affordable, and super easy to walk to! Such a great addition to the Franklin neighborhood! Barbacoa and Al pastor are a must try! Food was out quickly the girlies are so sweet

Yelp
For lunch today we decided to try Tio Fun, and we are SO happy we did!! We ordered to go, and service was quick, and the gals up front were so friendly. The ambiance has a really chill vibe, and I loved the sense of the restaurant. We ordered one of each taco, a burrito bowl with lettuce (chicken) and one with rice (barbacoa), chips, and salsa, as well as a lime and a mango agua Fresca. The food did not last long!!! All the food was fresh, and every single thing popped with incredible flavor. The chicken(moist! Not dry!), Arrachera steak (tender and flavorful, not chewy!), and al pastor were my favorite! The barbacoa was delicious, but I have a favorite from a place in Florida and I've yet to find a place that matches it. As my fiancé said, it could be better than most, but you would never know because that flavor profile is THE flavor you're searching for. He's so right, because it really is good!! We also tried the jackfruit, first for us, and found the taco to be flavorful and enjoyed the texture the jackfruit gave to the taco. The burrito bowls, with the A-mazing cilantro-lime drizzle (so fresh, really made the bowl pop!) were great!! Personally, I felt they were just a little overpriced for what you get, the amount of meat seemed to be roughly what you get on the tacos, maybe a smidge more - but that would be my ONLY nit-picky gripe. THE SALSAS ARE SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!!!! We did not get the mild - but based on everything else I have zero doubt it would be just as delicious. The salsa verde is thicker than you're used to seeing, has a nice spice level and is the best salsa verde I think I've ever had, personally. The spicy salsa has heat, pleasant at first, then builds, and lingers. If you like flavorful, spicy salsa, do NOT skip this! Overall super happy with our experience, and hope the quality continues long term, and people take the time to stop by and become repeat visitors. I know we will be when we come to town!!! Thanks for a great experience!! No pictures, unfortunately - it didn't last long and to-go would not do justice for what we saw with seated diners! The chips are thicker, which I enjoy, were salted well and yummy!

Marissa P.

Yelp
If you're looking for a restaurant where the good times roll as freely as the margaritas, look no further than Tio Fun! Yelp
Food was hot and fresh. Really good tacos. Super affordable. Less than $70 for two families! Online order was ready onetime and complete.

Yelp
This is walk up to the counter and order your Food type restaurant . Everything was okay but nothing to set them apart from the other 20 Mexican places in this area. Myself and two adult females was $50 including 2 sodas For what I call Mexican fast food or street food. Nothing leftover to bring home to eat later for my $50. Cost the same or more than a traditional sit down waitress Mexican restaurant in this area, and I always bring home the extra food. Boughie Franklin folks with Tesla's would like this place

Yelp
Food was amazing. We had a selection of various tacos, a barrio bowl, the corn and queso, and margaritas; everything tasted fresh and flavorful! Service top notch. Quick delivery, and plenty of smiles on every employees' face. One of the owners was there and totally engaged in the performance of the restaurant. Will be back frequently!
