Seattle’s New Restaurant Openings

"For open-faced bagels topped with lox and heirloom tomatoes, or bagel sandwiches  involving turkey and avocado, there’s Toasted Bagels. This new restaurant in the University District has lots of bagel iterations, plus a menu of coffee drinks. It could be a convenient option for UW students that need a quick bite between classes.  We recently checked out Toasted. Read our first thoughts here. The Best Bagels in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"It’s been a long, strange trip from initial announcement to grand opening, but Toasted., period and all, finally opened in July, bringing a Mediterranean-inspired spin on the classic bagel cafe. Sure, you can get a bagel with plain cream cheese, but with a menu full of spreads infused with labneh, dates, and honey, it’s hard not to mix it up. The Taste of Istanbul (hummus, heirloom tomato, pickled onions, cucumber, dill, lemon zest, and olive oil on a bagel) tastes as good as it looks." - Eater Staff

Toasted Bagels & Coffee Review - University District - Seattle - The Infatuation

"With its University District location and not-too-long lines, Toasted is practically set up for success. But the bagels at this Mediterranean counter are a letdown. Ironically, you do need to ask for them toasted—otherwise, prepare for a stale fate that date paste and labneh or sundried tomato-basil schmear simply cannot salvage. If you happen to be a hungover college student who requires a turkey bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich washed down with iced coffee to survive a Sunday morning, this place will undoubtedly come in handy. But if you’re on the prowl for a quality bagel, look elsewhere." - Aimee Rizzo

Google
Overpriced bagels and mediocre coffee. Service was great though! The bagel sandwich had too much BBQ sauce. Labneh & honey bagel was just cheese with honey drizzled. The bagels weren't freshly toasted. They tasted like they had been previously toasted. They weren't crunchy and were more chewy. Turkish coffee had too much ground coffee at the bottom. It didn't have the rich flavor (I've been to Turkiye). The lattes were way too sweet that I had to add a cup of water. I will not be coming back.

Google
Incredible place to check out if you get the chance. The vibe in here is incredible, the art and design was very beautifully done and I love the music choice. The bagels are the best I've ever had and the coffee is pretty far up there too. The first time I came they had actually sold out of all the food (</3), so I came back today and got the Spanish Coffee and Smoked Cado open face bagel with Hummus added and it was amazing. The first time I came I ordered a Turkish coffee and it was good but very strong and bitter! The only suggestion I have is to add some fly traps inside!

Google
I never had a lox before and this was everything! Made my whole day. Wish it was a little cheaper, definitely double check that sign outside. I must have misread. I didn’t get a discount at 2pm. If I went again I’d skip the coffee and get the lox bagel only. Together it’s just too much $$ for a work lunch.

Google
INCREDIBLE! My husband and I come here every Friday to split a date and labneh bagel (I like to add extra za’atar). Our other favorites are the turkey bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, as well as the toasted lox. The coffee drinks are delightful and rich without the dreaded hipster trend of bitter espresso. The lavender honey and cardamom honey lattes are my favorite. Service and ambience are incredible as well! Overall a lovely combination of an American cafe experience mixed with the flavors I grew up with back home.

Google
Nice atmosphere, quick and friendly service, decent coffee, bagel was nothing special and definitely not worth the price. If you’re going to charge $16 for a bagel it better be perfect, not have cavities in the middle, and ideally it isn’t smothered in pickled onions. I do appreciate they had good non-dairy cream cheese for my girlfriend and don’t charge extra for non-dairy milk.

Google
I came so excited to try this place! Im genuinely confused to the hype though. I know bagels are chewy but these were so hard?? Not sure if it was over toasted. Second the taste and flavors were just ok. I spent almost 16$ for the lox and they smothered it in picked onions and I just wasn’t amazed by it. I also got the date bagel, because that’s what everyone was raving out. It was just meh, was way to sweet. The Cardomon coffee was great though! Overall, meh.

Google
If you love coffee, you’ll love this place! I got a Spanish latte and a Turkish coffee—then mixed them together, and wow! Mind blown. The pistachio tiramisu was a solid 10/10. I just wish they had gluten-free bagels, but my sister said the regular ones were amazing. Don’t walk—RUN!

Google
So happy to see a bagel and coffee shop near the university. They have a unique and great variety of Mediterranean Fusion foods and drinks. Great atmosphere during Ramadan nights . The staff is so friendly and welcoming!

Yelp
Wow, this place is delicious. I ordered online takeout and my food was ready right on time - the place was clean and bright and staff were friendly. I had a honey cardamom latte, which was a nice balance of sweet with a tiny bit of spice. I also had a turkey pesto peach bagel sandwich - which was delicious - the pesto and peach together with the soft yet firm bagel was amazing. The most amazing food item I tried was the date and labneh bagel - it felt almost decadent with how hearty and sweet and satisfying it was. I don't live near here but I will be finding excuses to go to this neighborhood going forward!

Yelp
food: 3.5/5 service: 4/5 ambiance: 3/5 will be honest, this place is pricey for the quality. there are lots of emerging sandwich shops in seattle, and i was disappointed with the quality of my sandwich for how expensive it is. when you come here, you're coming for the ambiance and design. since this is located in u-district, i typically judge the ambiance of a cafe based on whether or not i'd study there. unfortunately, with their small cafe-style tables, i don't find myself having enough room to type while enjoying their food. it's beautiful, don't get me wrong, but i wasn't too impressed. service is good! i'm glad that the community and alumni comes back to give back, and i sincerely appreciate it. i ordered a pesto breakfast bagel with some modifications, and it was not bad. the fresh bagel is good, and i do like their pesto, but i think it was too oily. if you're ordering their pesto, be careful not to add it with oily meats as you'd find in a breakfast sandwich, as it could be overpowering. the quality of the bagel is good, but when i compare it to hey bagel down in u-village, there's a clear winner. however, do not get me wrong, this is a good place to come and chat with a friend, as i did for quite a bit. i would only say the price is too high for my taste, but i do hope they do well! i'm always rooting for student run businesses :) and hope they add more price friendly options!

Yelp
Quick bite in U-district with fast service and good studying vibe. Honey Lavender Latte is pretty good and Spiced Rose Chai Latte flavors are strong. Both sound exactly what it tastes like. TurkeyBEC and turkey pesto is good! The pesto turkey peach is a miss for me though, the peach didn't match the other ingredients.

Yelp
A good bagel sandwich is hard to come by in Seattle. There's no place that does it better than New York (in my opinion), but this place is definitely top 3 bagel spots in Seattle for me. I got the Turkey BEC (everything bagel) and my partner got the Avocado Bagel (sesame bagel) and this spot did not miss on the flavor, price, and quality. The service was quick and our bagels came out nice and warm! The place seems like a very popular place for students to study as it is very close to UW. It was busy when we got there, but we were lucky enough to snag a seat to enjoy our delicious post run bagels. The atmosphere was relaxing, clean, and calm. This place is also social conscious as they are donating 20% of their proceeds this weekend to the NW Immigration Right Project.

Yelp
Really cute corner coffee shop with delicious bagels. They even have turkish and spanish coffee. Cute interior decor with lots of windows for natural lighting. You can order from the kiosk if you have social anxiety. There's the main area and another more private space off to the right; about 10 tables decent for working but no place to plug in except along the couch seats. Perfect for chatting with friends but will get very loud if it's a full house. WiFi slows down after more than 5 devices are connected.

Yelp
I was very excited for this place, but I thought my latte and bagels were kind of mediocre for the price. I got a cardamom honey latte, turkey BEC and an everything bagel with jalapeño & cheddar cream cheese. After placing an order online, I got my food in about 15mins on a busy Saturday. The decor and ambiance are beautiful, I love the seating and setting of the cafe. My everything bagel with jalapeño cc was good, however the turkey bec was way too salty and kept sliding off the bagel after every bite. The latte also tasted very plain and cheap. Usually I love honey cardamom lattes, however I didn't like this one.

Yelp
I've been waiting for Toasted to open and I'm so happy it finally did! I ordered the turkey pesto sandwich, a bagel with the sun dried tomato & basil cream cheese, and a cappuccino. I was a little worried the sandwich wouldn't be filling as a meal, but they don't skimp with their ingredients. It was stacked with turkey, arugula, and tomato. All of the ingredients were fresh and tasty. They also put a generous amount of cream cheese on my other bagel. I got a poppy bagel for both of my items and loved it. Their coffee is also very good; the cappuccino tasted strong and not too bitter. I really appreciate that they don't charge extra for nondairy milk! Their interior is modern and simplistic with a lot of tables/seating options. It's a cute ambience if you need to study or meet up with friends, although it can get crowded. Service here is also great. The employees were very friendly, and when I went to use the bathroom I noticed they had a sign that said to ask the employees if you're in need of any feminine products. Although it's kind of a random thing, I thought that was super considerate and not something I've seen at many other places. All in all, I highly recommend Toasted and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
We stopped to grab some coffee before heading to a Seahawks game. Super cute and welcoming place. Chatted with the owner a bit and got the back story on the place. All of our drinks were fabulous and I'd def go back!

Yelp
I had driven past this intersection countless times dropping off or picking up The Homie from UW campus. I often wondered when would this papered up site open. Well it has opened since end of July to much success! I was able to find nearby street parking. I'm sure it's because autumn quarter has not started yet. Anyways, it sure was busy on a Friday morning with a decent sized line (9/13/24). I noticed a nearby kiosk and placed my order directly instead. Note that orders will be called via number (counter) or name (kiosk). I liked the interior decor, high ceilings, natural light, lots of plants, and ample indoor seating. They are also well staffed to deal with the customer volume in the kitchen and counter areas. Food and beverage orders for onsite or takeout seemed fairly brisk. I ordered a toasted everything bagel with labneh and honey. This goes against my usual plain bagel with garlic cream cheese smear or just a cinnamon raisin wheat bagel. Something different and I was rewarded with an immense flavor and texture! So why 4 stars versus a 5? *Turns out ordering via kiosk, I was not able to get my accrued Square/Cash points. Not a deal breaker though. *Dined onsite, but my order was in a takeout box, not a tray. Thankfully, the box and paper liner were compostable. *My order was $7.95, with tax & tip nearly ten bucks! Some of the featured bagel sandwiches on the menu were nearly $15. And what's that "convenience fee" tagged on for an onsite order? *Two top I sat at, the table surface and chair were messy. I had to get some paper towels to clean up the debris. Used more paper towels from the roll...maybe I missed where the napkins were. Nevertheless, a welcomed addition to the UDistrict cafe scene.

Yelp
One of the most thoughtful/intentional new bagel shops I've ever visited! The Spanish latte was delightfully sweet and the chais were nice and strongly spiced. We got a massively filling bagel flight for a reasonable price of $26 with pear cinnamon, lox, instanbul, and avocado (in order of most favorite to less). Also got to meet the young founder who was so knowledgeable and generous! Highly recommend supporting this local business.

Yelp
A very good spot to grab breakfast and study with friends! I really enjoyed the smoked avocado bagel, it was a perfect blend of creamy and crunchy with the pickled onions! However, it gets really busy and there's limited seating so it's a good grab and go spot.

Yelp
We were excited to try this new bagel place at U District! The interior is very trendy and modern, decorated with plants! The first time we came here, we just grabbed a plain bagel with labneh (the cashier described it as a more yogurt-like cream cheese with a hint of sweetness). They were unfortunately out of everything bagel then. The bagel itself was pretty standard but we really liked the labneh- it feels lighter and creamier than cream cheese, sort of like yogurt, just like the cashier described. We revisited again and this time we tried open face bagel flight where you get to pick and choose 4 different open face bagels! My favorites were the pear with cream cheese and walnuts & the date and labneh! They were both super unique and flavorful. Although the bagels were again just standard, I really liked the toppings. I think the service improved since our first visit, which was only 2 weeks after opening. During the first visit, it took awhile just to get a bagel with labneh. But the second time, our open faced bagel flight came out pretty quickly, so they seem to be getting the hang of it!

Yelp
**vegetarian review** Really cute spot- pretty interiors. And fairly quick service. I got the bagel flight- labneh and honey, dates and labneh, avocado cox, and taste of Istanbul. Very surprised by the sweet ones, neither was overly sweet but the flavour combinations was fun. The avocado one is not bad just kinda basic. The taste of istambul was very nice!! Little on the pricier side but cute and nice place.

Yelp
Beautiful location + food. I came on a Saturday and it was busy! Standing room only. Coffee is excellent. I got the date and labneh bagel, which was very chewy and tasty. I would come back for something more savory next time -- or a flight of bagels!

Yelp
I recently discovered the best halal bagel spot in town! The service is top-notch, and there's always a table available. The restaurant has a modern vibe with a vintage touch. I tried the Sultan with house sauce instead of BBQ sauce, and it was absolutely divine! Their bagel sandwiches are a bit pricey, around $10-$13, but they're worth it for the deliciousness. If you're in the area for breakfast or lunch, definitely make a stop here. They have an espresso machine and make great lattes too. On a chilly rainy day, their honey oat latte is a must-try!

Yelp
This is a must try in the U-District area. I recommend ordering ahead because it was packed and you can skip the line but there is a lot of seating and it's very clean inside. I got the bagel flight and the Spanish latte and it was amazing. The vegetables were fresh, bagels are great and the salmon was 10/10. But honestly the best part was the service. I ordered three total drinks and they didn't have any cup holders, so the guy working there walked with me across the street holding two of the drinks while it poured rain. I would've tried to make it work myself but he insisted and at that moment I knew I would come back again.

Yelp
Yummy bagel! I had the vanilla cardamom chai latte - delicious! I would eat here again on my next trip to Seattle.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great spot to check out near the UW campus. Service is quick and friendly. I appreciated that their food is also halal. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon - the line was long but it moved quickly. I tried the turkey pesto peach sandwich. The filling inside the sandwich was generous overall, although it was hard to detect much of a peach flavor. They also forgot to toast it, which wasn't a big deal. If you want to sit down inside, I recommend stopping by during a weekday when it's less crowded. Overall, I had a positive experience and will stop by in the future.

Yelp
I loved their bagel flight and if you love bagels like me, you gotta check them out!! I am obsessed with their date & labneh bagel and turkish coffee All of the flavors were so unique and so good! They have many vegetarian options as well!

Yelp
This bagel was a BUSSS out of 10. It's not 5 stars because it broke my bank. I usually am not a bagel person but IM A FAN. This specific one (forgot the name), the pickled onion may scare you, but it's a great balance from the fattiness of the cream cheese and the freshness of the salmon. The cucumber and tomato slices also added a crunch and more freshness in my bite. I couldn't finish it in one sitting but you bet I finished the rest once it digested. You probably won't catch me here again but when I'm retired and have expendable income, you can catch me camping out until opening hours. The owner was very welcoming, it was also very obvious he was the owner, might have as well wore a big chef hat that says "owner" on it. He never dropped his smile. Loved that guy.
google avatar

Alicia C.

Yelp
This place offers the widest variety of cream cheese selections compared to all the other bagel shops I've visited in Seattle. They also have a great selection of bagels to choose from. I ordered the cucumber cream cheese with eggs and honey. It was delicious, though the honey made it a bit too sweet. The shop itself is really cute--a great spot to get some work done.
google avatar

Karis H.

Yelp
Cute cafe with for hangouts or short study session! Food: 4/5 I got the turkey pesto peach bagel sandwich ($13.95). The bagel was a little hard/stale, but flavors were on point! Atmosphere: 5/5 Super cute decor and lighting! There's indoor and outdoor seating, and a self-serve water/utensils station. Only downside is the lack of outlets-- the few outlets I saw were in the armchair areas with coffee tables. (Also the wifi password wasn't working when I went, but that could've just been me) Service: 5/5 Employees are attentive and so kind!!
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
If you're into bagel sandwiches and vibrant yet tranquil atmospheres this is the spot. The shop consits of bright colors, plants, and an abundance of seating options. I ordered the TurkeyBEC with a poppyseed bagel which was fantastic. The bagel was beautifully salted and held together while the secret sauce made the fillings cohesive, not too much of anything. I also ordered an espresso which I know nothing about other than it was a medium dark roast, and was pulled with a very unexpected Rocket espresso machine!! I haven't seen one anywhere else in Seattle so it was a very welcome surprise. Overall, the service was wonderful, the bagels were voluptuous, and I'll be back again soon to try more bagels!

Yelp
This is at the corner of 50th & 15th Ave in the University district. Love their story of being recent UW grad who decided to open a Halal bagel shop. We came by based on one the owners comments about paying a living wage to their workers and wanted to support them. We got a Turkey Pesto and Lox sandwich. They offer everything bagels! A lot of coffee options that you can do hot or cold. It would be great for the incoming college students who want to grab a quick bite before classes. I would be careful and pay attention to your number being called because our order was stolen by someone who came by and grabbed a bag without having the number called out. They remade ours but having that happen did factor into our being aware and making sure if we come back to pay attention so food isn't stolen.

Yelp
Absolutely love everything about this cafe!!! The food, drinks, ambience - all of it was *chef's kiss*!This was my first time trying it out and I will definitely be back again. I arrived around 11am on Sunday and there was a bit of a line out of the door, but it passed pretty quickly and my friends and I were able to place our order within 10 minutes. Found a table with in the cute corner of the cafe and had our food and coffee come up fairly quickly. YOU MUST TRY THE BAGEL FLIGHT!!! The flavors were perfection. My personal favorites were the date and labneh, as well as the smoking 'cado piled with pickled onion. Soooo flavorful and delicious. Can't wait for other locations!!!

Yelp
Was so excited when this place opened! Tried a sesame bagel with date paste and a cardamom latte. I've since tried their espresso in just a regular latte and it's really nice and smooth. The date paste is honestly such a unique offering and delicious. Really clean and pleasant atmosphere, the owners were there both times I visited and were hella hard working and friendly!

Yelp
Turkish coffee is amazing! Reminds me of Cuban coffee, but with the Turkish spices. Yum!! Also: toasted bagels were perfect texture and delicious. Staff were so friendly. Pretty decor. Loved it.

Allie R.

Yelp
Excellent bagel and the labneh + date paste combo was quite interesting and delicious. The date paste layer was too thick for my taste, since the sweetness + the honey they add on top was overpowering. I had a good experience since I was able to split half the bagel with a friend - I'd definitely not be able to finish this on my own. I know people love a thick layer of spread on their bagels generally but I'm not sure if this principle applies to the date paste as its so sweet. However, still giving 4 stars because it had excellent flavor and I would return to try some of the other offerings. Service was fast!

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere, kind and welcoming staff, and delicious bagels and chai :) One of my very favorite cafes to work from in Seattle

Jax M.

Yelp
Toasted is an amazing spot! I tried the flight so was able to sample four different bagels and each were delicious. They have a great, vibrant atmosphere inside and the service is superb. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My bagel was perfect--chewy and soft. And the sundried tomato cream cheese was delicous. Strong coffee too! I highly recommend Toasted.

Yelp
yummy bagels! lots of choices! cozy and not too many people. they bring over your orders so that's a great serviceable

Julia F.

Yelp
I love TOASTED, I was thoroughly impressed when I went opening weekend. Their bagels are super high quality, they have unique options (despite a smaller menu size), it doesn't cost extra to pay for alternative milk. I highly recommend their cardamom honey latte. The atmosphere is adorable and clean with a decent amount of seating. The prices are fair in comparison to blazing bagels. There are times when I have gotten it where it has been made better than others, but its so yummy. My only notes: This is not a fast-paced bagel place, be prepared to wait a hot minute, especially for your coffee. The amount of cream cheese they put on your bagel is kind of nuts, I would ask for light cream cheese if you want a normal amount of schmear. Their cheddar jalapeño cream cheese confuses me because there are just shredds of cold cheese and pieces of raw jalapeno. I guess I expected roasted/pickled jalapeno and some different version of cheddar but overall still good. Their sesame bagel is elite. Also, make it clear if you would like your bagel toasted.
