Best Restaurants and Bars to Try on Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa | Eater San Diego

"For tofu stews in stone pots, such as kimchi jjigae, head to Tofu House. This restaurant was established in 1998 to serve comfort food to the Korean diaspora; these days, the customer base for the popular restaurant has expanded tremendously. The kitchen serves up a variety of soondubu, bubbling hot in stone bowls when it arrives at the tables; bulgogi, galbi, and tofu are also served in hot stone bowls and come out still sizzling. Baskets of endless raw eggs and Korean banchan add to the value of these wallet-friendly meals." - Helen I. Hwang

"Tofu House was established in 1998 with a goal to serve comfort food to the Korean diaspora; these days, the customer base for the popular restaurant has expanded tremendously. The kitchen serves up a variety of soondubu, bubbling hot in the stone bowls when it lands on the tables. Flavorful bulgogi, galbi, and tofu are also served in hot stone bowls, and come out still sizzling. Baskets of endless raw eggs and Korean side dishes add to the value of these wallet-friendly meals. Google
Delicious, silky boiled tofu. The banchan was pretty good. Could maybe use a refill on the kimchi but this is a great no frills lunch spot. I’ll definitely come back and work my way around the menu.

Google
Reasonable priced flavorful food and good Banchan. However, I got the boil on tofu with chicken and it came with ground chicken and small overcooked vegetables. It would’ve been a lot better with pieces of chicken and more high-quality vegetable cuts.

Google
Kind of what I expected. The food was good the servers were frantic and overworked. The place was clean and pleasant. They seems a bit shorthanded, by one or two servers, which is typical these days. The food quality was good, the service reasonably quick and the portions acceptable. We left satisfied. The beef dishes were nicely done. Expect to wait 15 to 20 min for your food and spend at least $20 per person.

Google
Really enjoyed the seafood fried rice and chef's special combo meal. The fried rice had shrimp and scallops with the mixture of white and purple rice. It was simple, not super flavorful but good. The seafood tofu soup was delicious, filled with toppings. The galbi wasn't bad but it was too burnt, or charred. Their banchans were good as well, and refillable upon request. Service was prompt, too.

Google
Very disappointed. This is the worst Korean food I’ve ever had! It’s not authentic at all — clearly not run by Koreans. Bibimbap had bean sprouts, corn, and glass noodles — completely wrong!! Tofu stew was bland and tasteless. They gave us the bill the moment the food arrived — extremely rude. Overpriced, dark, and unpleasant atmosphere. Never coming back.

Google
Tofu House in San Diego is a great spot for a quick and satisfying lunch. The place is clean, service is fast, and the food is solid. The kalbi ribs are a standout.

Google
Enjoy a meal here. The portion size is fair and the taste of the food is worth the price. No fuss place to have a meal. No need for a one hour wait at the other restaurants in the area. Enjoy a comforting meal here with a hot bowl of soup, rice and meat if needed. Yum.

Google
Pretty good, but not amazing given the price and the atmosphere, not sure I'd come back. Pros: the food came out super fast, like insanely fast. There was also almost no wait to get a table. The food was super hot -- we waited much longer for our food to cool down to a edible temperature than to get to our table. Cons: The food was good, but not something I'd write home about, especially for the price. We spent $20 each including tip, no drinks or appetizers. The restaurant was also extremely smoky, as in health-code violation smoky. They really need better ventilation for the kitchen. It was nice that there were vegan options, but honestly I'm not 100% sure they were vegan. We explained we only wanted vegan (no meat, dairy, eggs) but they kept trying to bring us egg.

Yelp
Tofu House is one of my absolute favorite spots for tofu soup, and there's one thing that sets it apart: the Bulgogi Tofu Soup with glass noodles. The combination of spicy and sweet flavors in the broth is simply irresistible. It's not too thick making it the perfect hangover soup. I love how they include generous portions of bulgogi meat and vegetables within the stew too. As an added bonus, they provide a complimentary egg and a variety of delicious side dishes (fishcake, radish, cucumber, and kimchi) When it comes to the noodles, the glass noodles really enhance the overall flavor of the soup. And the best part? Adding noodles to your order is just an extra $1. In terms of ambience, Tofu House has a decent atmosphere. I've never had to wait too long, although it can get quite crowded during peak hours.

Yelp
I've been going here for years. They have really good Korean food. I either get the bulgogi hot stone or the bulgogi tofu soup. They both have great flavor. They provide appetizers as soon as you sit down at your table. The kimchi and spicy cucumbers are really good. They have great service. I was just there this week for dinner. Our server was very attentive. He kept checking on us to make sure we didn't need anything. I got there right after 5pm on Wednesday and it was not busy but it steadily got more busy. It's a fairly small restaurant.

Yelp
Their boiled tofu is SO yummy! The service here is very fast - admittedly almost too fast it sort of feels like they want you in and out. I get it, the more folks the more money but you do feel somewhat rushed. That said the food is way worth it. Cute restaurant and aesthetic is enjoyable. It can get a little loud but nothing you wouldn't expect at a restaurant that is packed because it's that tasty! If you get the rice, make sure to stir it quickly so that it doesn't over cook in the hot plate. Learned that one the hard way

Yelp
Tofu House hits the spot for comforting korean food on a rainy day! They don't have a super large menu but are most known for their combo of the Chef's Special boiled tofu soup and 4 different choices of meat. I visited on a rainy Saturday night and did not have to wait for a seat. The space is pretty small and could probably fit 50 people inside. On my last visit I got the H1 combo. The Chef's Special soup has a ton of seafood and you can pick your spice level, I like medium! It comes with a hot stone bulgogi. It's a good deal because those items separately would be $32 but the combo is $23. Both dishes come out PIPING hot and I like to cook the eggs in it right away. The hot stone stays hot for a long time and I feel like the rice gets burnt, which is the only downside. Food comes out pretty fast and can't complain about the service. It's a great option when I crave tofu stew. This location has the worst parking lot in Convoy so I definitely recommend parking on the side streets lol.

Yelp
Been here the last few months with some co-workers as it was suggested to me. The food is excellent and the service is rather quick even during the busy lunch hour. If you get one of the bowls you get a fresh egg that you crack and add to your steaming hot bowl and mix in and it gets cooked. Be careful as it's so hot you may have to wait a few minutes until it's cool enough to eat. Will be back for more! Get here like at 11:30 AM as parking can be challenging due to the many restaurants in this plaza.

Yelp
Been coming here for years, always a solid spot for Korean food! My favorite is the bulgogi hot stone pot but this time I tried the bulgogi boiled tofu soup ($15). It was flavorful and mild was still a bit spicy for me lol. I love the fish cakes and cucumber kimchi side dishes, and the service is always good. Parking can be difficult as usual
google avatar

Kannica C.

Yelp
The side dishes were minimal and the fish cakes were slightly stale tasting? Not sure how fresh they make their sides. The tofu soup with bulgogi was subpar, if you have a high level of spice tolerance-- their "danger hot" option isn't that spicy. When asking for that option, I feel that it's okay to actually make it very spicy. What really saved our dinner was the hot stone bulgogi. I enjoyed the flavor of everything combined and felt that the "meat party" option was a good choice for us. Perhaps it was because we were starving at this point. The galbi did taste a little overcooked. Not worth the place at all. But, my favorite part is scraping off the burnt rice at the bottom and having it with the tofu soup. Would recommend having any hot stone dish that way. What truly docked my rating though was the service. Everyone we encountered-- from the host who seated us, the busser, and our server, were all very unpleasant. The host had us sit outside in the cold because one person in our party was running behind. Our server was gaining gratuity from our table (we were a party of 9) and I assume that's why he was so dismissive and not friendly whatsoever. He kept asking us "anything else?" in the most bothered way. Also! Our bill wasn't itemized! It was just the total price of the dinner? I couldn't believe it. I hate to be so negative, but it really dampened our dinner. In a place like Convoy, where there are so many Korean food options, they don't stick out. Even at Friends House, where it is twice as busy, we are treated so much better. Overall, wouldn't revisit this location again and I will be ordering my hot stone bulgogi someplace else!

Yelp
The food was delicious! I went alone hut ordered 3 entrees hoping to have enough for the week - which I did! Generous portions and so yummy! Plus they gave me condiments/tasters (4) that were excellent. Highly recommend if you love tofu, they have meat as well!

Yelp
Hot stone rice: 1/5 First of all, the rice was not crispy, IT WAS BURNT. There's a picture attached here that shows just how blackened it really was. We asked the waiter about this and they simply said to mix it so it doesn't keep cooking, when it was already burnt! And it wasn't like we let it sit. We mixed the pot almost immediately after they served it. Disregarding the burnt rice, the flavor of the dish was not even that good. It was okay at best. And especially for the price of $17, this was an absolutely terrible experience. Vegetable tofu stew: 3/5 This was not bad. I definitely could have made it at home without the stone pot. And I might have been able to make it better. So the price ($15!) really did not match the quality or taste.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite place to get Korean kimchi tofu soup. It's basic and the spicy level has flavor and plenty of meat. I usually go for the beef. The banchan are basic too but they refill generously if you ask. We also like their combo, where you can get a small soup and some short ribs. The galbi ribs are good and flavorful, and come out sizzling hot. This location is better than the one in Mira Mesa! Parking is always bad but come early or look for street parking. Employees of other restaurants take up most parking spots. And watch out for bad drivers.
google avatar

Brittaney S.

Yelp
This is a great tofu house for fresh, quick, and delicious food! The service is great and there are refills on the side dishes. I didn't have to wait long for my food as well. I ordered the Seafood Special Combo Boiled Tofu I was shocked how much seafood was included in my order and couldn't believe that the food was served piping hot to the table.
google avatar

Sara D.

Yelp
Tofu House has some of my favorite Korean staples like japchae and bulgogi bowls served in hot stone which keeps it warm and super delicious. The service is always very fast and the food has always hit the spot. The only tricky thing is parking since it is in a plaza with many other businesses but if you're okay walking it is a place you need to try out!
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
Classic spot for Korean food on Convoy Street. The staples here are the boiled tofu soup and the hot stone bibimbap. Both are solid but a bit on the pricey side, and the Korean sides offered here are a bit lacking. The dishes do come with an egg, though!

Yelp
My family and I ate here around 2pm on a Saturday, parking in Convoy is difficult anywhere so parking took us a moment until being able to find one! This was our first time at tofu house, and we enjoyed the food! We ordered: - seafood combo - hot stone meat party - chef special soup with galbi - bulgogi with glass noodles Overall the food was yummy, the soup stayed really hot as we ate it so it was nice that it didn't cool off too fast. The meats weren't super salty and there was a good amount of everything in the soups. My soup had 4 shrimps and 4 clams too on top of the meat and tofu added into it. So it was very filling! The service was normal, nothing too extra nothing too little. One thing we did note was when we asked for a refill on the sides (pictured) they gave us a lot! So we appreciated that (and we finished the sides again after). It's a decent sized restaurant with a chill ambience, a good place to bring your family or to eat with friends. This food is comforting after a night out or just to grab dinner when craving soup that isn't necessarily pho or ramen! But overall enjoyed the food, definitely visiting again!
google avatar

Renee L.

Yelp
The food here isn't too bad but not quite the best Korean food I e had. The food can be a bit salty here and sometimes doesn't taste as fresh. They have a nice variety of banchan which is always nice. The service was pretty quick as well. The place can get Smokey and is loud at times but overall a decent experience.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
e were the only customers at the time and there were 2 servers working. We got the hot stone pot bulgogi and the tofu soup with kimchi. They were both just okay. Not bad, but also not mindblowingly amazing. It wasn't that expensive but I also did not think the overall quality was worth the price. The fishcake side dish was stale/dry. Service was fast but also just okay. Didn't really check up on us or anything like that. TLDR; I'd go somewhere else if I was craving Korean food next time. Pricing is about what you'd expect. Side dishes could be better.

Yelp
My husband convinced me to try this place again after 7 years when we first tried it and gave it a one-star ( only because our favorite tofu house is being remodeled). Most unfortunate is that the customer service has still not changed; and customer service remains a strong pet peeve of mine in reviewing a restaurant! The only difference this time is that we got to actually order and try their food. When I stepped into the restaurant, I had to wait awhile to be acknowledged and when the guy did come up to me, I told told there is two of us (my husband has been circling the parking lot to get parking). He then said, I can seat you when your other party gets here. I told him that he is here but can't find parking; I guess I showed some annoyance because he started to walk away but turned around after a few seconds and decided to seat me. Food was decent. The vegetarian boiled tofu was tasty but on the salty side. We also ordered Japjae and that was fine but extra oily. My husband ordered the seafood fried rice. He said it was good but too oily. Restroom facility was ok, clean enough, per my husband's feedback. It appears despite the poor customer service some people still patronize this place. I'm not sure I'll come back as long as there are other tofu houses around.
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
I love this place. Service is 5/5 Food is 5/5 Efficiency is 5/5 This place is well run. Every time I come here, I am seated immediately. The bon chon comes immediately. I order the best thing on the menu which is obviously the bulgogi hot stone bibimbap. I kid you not I timed it once and it took less than 5 mins before our food came out. Every. Single. Time. The last time I went I swear it was 3 minutes. The check comes immediately. The waiter checks in on you multiple times throughout. I am so seriously impressed every single time I come here. And it's piping hot food which is the best kind of food. Sometimes I want to give this place a round of applause. They are so efficient it is always a pleasure to come here especially when most of our other favorite places have gone downhill after Covid. This place has always been and stayed great. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I love tofu house for a quick and inexpensive meal. I gave them 5 stars because they had prompt service and played BTS LOL

Yelp
Came on a Friday night around 5:30. Our party of 4 was able to get a table right away, but the tables did fill up right after that, and there was a line the rest of the time we were there. As some other had mentioned, there are no prices on the drinks or sizes of things (example - Sapporo bottles have various sizes). They really need to add that. The server, while friendly, was definitely in hurry mode. We needed a little time though since none of us had ever been there. I ordered one of the seafood hot tofu dishes. Everything comes out piping hot and literally steaming/smoking. They kept the front door open, but the place was just filled with smoke, and we left smelling very strongly. Once the food cooled down, it was pretty good. Some of my seafood was a little tough from getting overcooked in the broth. My husband got one of the hot beef dishes and didn't stir it right away - leading to a lot of food burning to his platter. Make sure to stir! We did enjoy the small plates that every table gets as a starter. The check came and didn't have individual prices. Our bill seemed a little high, but not too far off. Also wish they would give a full bill. Overall just an ok experience. Probably won't return unfortunately, as there are so many other good options in that area.
google avatar

Yelp
Tofu house is located in a very popular plaza with limited parking. The restaurant has plenty of seating available, even with large parties it's pretty easy to accommodate. The menu is on the QR code and the server are pretty prompt to get your order placed. Within a few minute of sitting down they'll bring out your bon chon to taste while the food is being prep. My go to is the chef special tofu with medium spice since it has a variety of ingredients. They also have rice dishes and meats as well for you to try in case you're not in the mood for tofu. Definitely a quick lunch that come out fast and taste good. Come try them out.

Yelp
Visited the location in convoy and had a great experience. Pros: -delicious food. I loved the stone pot bulgogi -they provide a raw egg on the side for you to add to your meal -they provide bottle water for their customers -quick service! We were sat quickly and the food came out really fast Cons: -n/a Other: -although there is a free parking lot in front, it gets busy so plan in advance
google avatar

Yelp
This is my family's go-to place to eat whenever we visit San Diego. Super delicious food and great service. We ordered 2 combos: 1 with bulgogi and 1 with galbi. The meats come out steaming on a hot plate and they are the best korean-style cooked meat that I've tasted in any korean restaurant, perfectly seasoned and tasty. Tofu soups had plenty of ingredients and come with a raw egg that we drop into the soup to cook. Brown rice is purple rice. Banchan were spicy except for 1 dish. Some people don't care for spicy but it goes well with the dishes we ordered. Excellent service even though it was 1 person for the whole place, he made sure every table has what they need in a methodological way. Parking in that plaza is always tight small spaces.
google avatar

Jerry R C.

Yelp
Tofu House offers an authentic Korean dining experience in a casual setting. Parking can be difficult, so carpooling is recommended. My personal favorite is the hot pot, where fresh ingredients are cooked right inside a red hot stone bowl.
google avatar

Jane C.

Yelp
Came here with friends, we got seat soon enough. It was my friend's favorite but they said that they haven't been here in ages. Lots can change in ages ..... hahahhahaha And the restaurant got busy after we were there. Look like a popular place. It was hard to waves down the help. They are short staffed. Although, the food does come out quickly enough. I ordered the bibimbap while others ordered the tofu soup. I had fun chatting with friends and enjoying the food. And enjoying the night out on a Wednesday night... Now that is life~~!
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
THE BEST SOFT TOFU STEW OF MY LIFE!!! The broth had such a good seafood flavor and was full of meat, seafood, and tofu. It came out piping hot with an egg.

Yelp
I have been going to Tofu House for years because of their affordable Korean combo meals and delicious food. The last time I came however, my experienced was clouded which is why I cannot give them a perfect 5/5 stars. I'm not a fan of the how the servers did not inform us that the waters are bottled (kirkland water) and something that was an "extra charge". They charged us $1 each for it. Which I didn't mind paying but I do wish that they let us know because most restaurants in the US don't charge for water. On top of that my boyfriend and I shared the bulgogi hot stone and chefs special combo which was $21. Our total bill came out to $36....It turns out the Sapporo we bought costed a whopping $10! BEWARE! If you look at their menu they do not list the prices of their beverages, they don't even list water on there which is something that they DO CHARGE you for. When I paid for my bill the servers seemed confused on why I was confused. I just want honesty in what I'm paying for. That's all. I recommend Management to add prices of beverages to the menu to reflect the prices otherwise there will be a lot of angry customers.
google avatar

Rose A.

Yelp
Sat down right away, offered variety of kimchi sides and beverages. We ordered #3 bulgoli with glass noodles and #3 chicken vegtables with glass noodles, it came with a side of rice or brown rice of choice. The pots came out sizzling and boiling....we dropped in a raw egg each and let it simmer. They gave us bottled water. A server came by often to check on us. Good food...good service. Best to park on the street...parking lot is small and tight.

Bk A.

Yelp
This place is trash. Service is horrible. Food was cold'. Will never go back. Our server was rude and we had to get up to get service
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
Just recently tried this place for the first time and was very happy with the entire experience! The food was delicious, the service was phenomenal, and the value cost-wise was really good. Got the kalbi, crispy bulgogi rice pot, and chef's special tofu soup. The crispy rice was amazing, having a perfectly crispy bottom and tons of flavor. The kalbi was tasty, well-marinated, had a great amount of char, and got a good portion for the cost. The chefs special soup was good, but I'll try a different version next time. That was my least favorite part of the meal, but the other options of soon du boo look promising. The banchan were each very tasty, and the attentive server kept refilling them for us. Fantastic experience through and through. Definitely going back very soon!
google avatar

Ericka O.

Yelp
Food quality has really gone down since Covid. Gyoza used to be an adequate amount, but now it's half the amount and half the size and sometimes burnt. Secondly, I ordered the kimchi soup, it lacked flavor, and less amount of rice was given and limited to one egg. Service was good, the waiter was nice. It's just unfortunate that the quality has gone down a lot : ( Used to be one of my favorite places to eat, especially on a cold day.
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
The Tofu House off of El Cajon Blvd is what I'm used to going to. The older lady who and all the employees who worked there in the kitchen and on the floor put forth their best effort, energy, and customer service which isn't hard at all being a waiter/waitress and it goes the same for any profession YOU choose to take on... we are all human and have good days and bays. What my girlfriend and I got really had nothing to do with our waiters attitude, but his service and I'm not going to walk in, oblivious as you may choose to be, sit down and get served leftover appetizers followed by the check before our main course got to us. As much he assumed we'd be ok with that, says a lot about how he feels about you.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
Hubs ordered the hot stone bulgogi. I had the Bulgogi with glass noodles. Both were very good. Yummy, super hot, meat marinated and seasoned very nicely. The place was pretty busy but they turn tables fast. We were able to get a table right away.
google avatar

Tif M.

Yelp
Never seen the reviews before and I'm a bit surprise. I came right at open 11am. I was the first one there. We had no idea how to order but the table provided us with a QR Code. Photos are not the best. I was starving. The food does come out piping hot. The give you side dishes, you order your food and enjoy. It had great flavor and would recommend on a cold day. I will be back.

Benny J.

Yelp
Delicious Korean cuisine all around. Great portions and nice service. I've only ever had take out, but the interior was nice. Great food!
google avatar

Ann Gelli A.

Yelp
It was my first time and I was super impressed! Great place and food to share with friends. I had the hot stone bulgogi. To avoid getting the rice too hard/crispy, I mixed it as soon as it's served. Everything was served so hot (temp), you must take your time eating it. Depending on your taste, most food isn't salted enough, but adding the sweet soy sauce makes a huge difference. This place is now one of my favorites at the Convoy Food Strip and I'll definitely come back. Highly recommended
google avatar

Marleen R.

Yelp
Our pick for the night out of the bunch of places there is on Convoy. Menu is big and confusing as shit but you can narrow it down to the basics, hot soup or hot rice plate- servers are a bit hard to understand but to our relief tables are nearby so we can see what other people are eating and point. Good thing about this business is that they put all you need on the table so you don't have to bother asking for all kinds of things like extra napkins, hot sauce and such fixings. Kitchen ladies were in a rush since it was almost closing time. But I felt like in the Friday movie "hurry up and buy" so we ordered, took our pics, ate and bounced! Hot tea was good, rice house tea with good water is always an extra star!
google avatar

Dominic M.

Yelp
Easily one of my favorite places to eat in the convoy district and favorite place in sd for tofu soup. Great service and staff. They are super friendly and the food comes out quick. Some excellent comfort food!
google avatar

Laura J.

Yelp
Ordered the Seafood Special Combo. Soup was a bit too salty for me, tasted more like soy sauce more than anything. I think they skimped out on the spice comparing the mild I got a year ago. My friend ordered medium spice and it looked like it had even less spice than mine. Giving this a one star mostly because of the service. Upon arriving and waiting we did not recieve water, we had to ask and then given water bottles. But they never mentioned that we were to be charged for them and they definitely would not have told us unless we asked, which I find a bit sketch. They also do not offer free water, so you are either forced to buy their bottled water or just die of thirst I guess. They also threw down our check less than a minute after our food arrived, like they wanted us to leave. And tossed the receipt down on the table after paying even as my friend had her hand out ready to recieve it.

Yelp
It's very unfortunate as this has been my go-to spot for many years... Today, brought 7 other individuals with me to have dinner. We drove two cars. My car arrived first and found parking immediately, which is rare. I decided to come in first to put down for a party of 8. The restaurant, being a Wednesday at 6pm, was only at about 30% occupancy. The server was cordial. Informed us that he will seat us as soon as the entire party is here. Reasonable as I'm sure this has been an issue in the past. We waited outside while tracking our other party. They were circling to find parking. I noticed that they had set up the table for 8, and knowing our other party was arriving imminently, and seeing the table was set, AND realizing that there were still plenty of seating, my first party of 4 decided to have a seat at our table. Within 30 seconds the bus person came by and recited the company rule, that no party is to be seated until the entire party arrived. Now...this is where training should have kicked in, even when common sense is lacking. Here's a party of 8, a simple $250 additional revenue, and this is the party you've decided to draw the line in the sand with? He was insistent we get up and wait outside until the entire party is here. Note the initial 4 consists of 3 adults and a teenager. Two of the adults are in our 50s. The inconvenience and the embarrassment of being ushered out the door was sufficient for us to decide to dine down the way at another establishment in the same center. I truly hope the management have an opportunity to read this review and understand that the situation really warranted no action whatsoever by the waitstaff. The simple action of "following company rule" has resulted in not just an immediate loss of revenue on a Wednesday night but perhaps two long time customers for awhile.

Yelp
I got the meat party and it was very bland. It was overcooked and tasted burnt. Service was slow. The place itself is nice and clean.

Yelp
I was really disappointed. This is first time visit here I don't know what is good but name of place is tofu house so i think tofu soup will be better choice but it wasn't. I'm not Korean so I really don't know what is very authentic Korean food but I lived in Korean town in Los Angeles and I ate so many Korean food so and Korean friend here and there. So I know tiny bit of Korean food. Soup is little tasteless. Usually broth taste more fish side or beef side . But here is like miso soup with just a little spicy cochujang taste. Nothing else. Little sad. By the way I preferer sound like same name called BCD tofu house in NYC or Los Angeles.

Yelp
This place was amazing! My fiancé and I stumbled into this restaurant after being put on the longest wait list at a sushi spot down the street. I am not a huge fan of hot soup but my honey is so we decided to try this place out. I can proudly say that after dining here, my idea of hot soup has dramatically changed. What I used to consider a subpar watery tub of flavorless tofu soup, has completely changed after tasting the most delicious, palatable, explosively flavorful broth this place has to offer. I especially loved all of the complimentary toppings and fixings this restaurant offered such as kimchi, fish cake, pineapple, eggs and more. We will definitely be back again The service was also pretty great! Don't walk, run here. :)

Yelp
Was in the area and it had been a while since our last visit, we were craving some soup for the chili weather. Unfortunately the service and food went downhill. Ordering felt like we were being rushed menu was confusing and as a result we ended up ordering something that we didn't need or want. Plus it had meat and we do not eat red meat. The soups Chef's Special was good, just not as many seafood. And the crispy tofu with mushrooms and veggies was still yummy as I remembered. No more water cups or juice. They have bottled water and drinks. I remember the juice dispenser that was free. The bonchan (side dishes) aren't plentiful. I couldn't even ask for more because the servers just walked by quickly. The servers felt very robotic. Definitely was not satisfied with our experience. It's so sad because this was our go-to spot for tofu soup. Tip, do not read the menu posted on the wall, just scan the QR code it's easier and less confusing. Not sure if we will be back, the service definitely played a part.

Yelp
We were seated fast as it wasn't as busy today. There are menu QR code on the tables but there is also a big menu right at the middle of the restaurant. We ordered 2 Hot Stone Bulgogi which I enjoyed the taste of. Make sure to mix it and put sauce right away, it will prevent burning whatever is in the bottom. The portion is also great, almost shareable. My mom ordered Chef's special :boiled tofu with seafood in it, she made it a combo with galbi. Tasted the soup and I like it! The portion was smaller than expected but for a soup that's filled with seafood and tofu, it's filling. Galbi was also served in skillet so it stayed warm.

Yelp
I like the food here. The hot stone rice is very crunchy & crispy which is very nice. It's pretty busy on Thursday night but I only waited about 5 minutes to get seated. The service is kinda slow because I saw there is mainly only 1 person does everything: host, take order, take out foods, clean the table, giving bills and collecting money. Therefore, I can't expect faster service because he has been working non-stop. The ambiance is very nice and cozy, seatings are very comfortable. Overall my experience here is great. My husband keeps saying the food is so good. We will definitely come bacm

Yelp
I visited this restaurant on a Saturday night and unfortunately, it turned out to be the wrong choice from the many options available on Convoy Street. The Ban Chan was dry and flavorless, and the Galbi was dry and burnt. The Chefs special Soon tofu lacked broth and seafood flavor, was short on spices and the egg that came with it was difficult to open. The Fried rice was mixed with not-so-good brown rice, and although it had plenty of shrimp which my son enjoyed, it wasn't what I expected from fried rice. The Bibimbap was decent, but nothing special. The service was fast and waiters attentive, but eating all of the food felt like a chore. Overall, it might not be the best pick for a restaurant. There are plenty of other authentic Korean restaurants in this area, don't make this mistake...

Yelp
A waitress is very rude and never said a word on questions I asked. Found a hair in a rice bowl about half way done eating. Gave me 10 dollar discount but gave back. Will never go back

Yelp
***ATTENTION!!!*** Post-pandemic awareness is a thing when dining out so benefit of the doubt is applied however these folks managed to create a negative atmosphere upon arrival. I used to patronize this place quite regularly but things have gone downhill. I requested a better table given my mother's condition to which the server denied us being able to sit elsewhere in the restaurant. The worst part is it appeared the server gossiped in the front of house with the manager/owner about my request for better seating. What used to be a basket full of eggs is now a basket that has (1) egg per dish. Their hot sauce now has a plastic-flavor to it which used to be one of their highlights. Service here has been consistently questionable but the food usually made up for it... I am afraid that the food no longer covers for the lack of customer service skills at this establishment.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years and will go out of my way to stop for lunch. They have the best crispy rice bowls! Make sure to get the brown rice! The service is fast and friendly!
