Restaurants Worth a Road Trip from Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Heather Earnhardt and Zac Young, who once operated Capitol Hill’s popular cafe, The Wandering Goose, relocated and now run the Tokeland Hotel and Restaurant full time. Here, visitors can find Southern-influenced dishes like rockfish and grits, chicken-fried pork chop, and buttermilk biscuits and gravy. There’s also an impressive pastry case, stocked with chevre cheesecake, key lime pie, and biscuit cinnamon rolls." - Megan Hill

I loved everything about the Tokeland Hotel! We stayed at Penelope's Cabin for a three night stay, Fri, Sat, Sun, and I highly recommend it! The cabin is gorgeous and full of wonderful details like a real record player with a great selection, really nice fridge, stove, and coffee pour-over setup. The Sauna is POWERFUL and the Hot tub was great on a cool misty evening! ||The Wandering Goose is just stunning overall. We ate a series of meals there, including two dinners and a breakfast, and some highlights were the fantastic Willapa Bay Oysters (from their own oyster beds, fresh as can be!) both on the half shell with great sauces, and fried in cornmeal (gluten free!). The Crispy fried green tomatoes, rockfish, pimento cheese, burger and stunningly perfect fries all made it really special. I loved the Black Manhattan and their N/A cocktails were on point too. ||The location is easy to get to from Seattle (and Portland). No passes to drive over, but still really far away, with perfectly clear and clean air and water, beautiful wildlife (we saw lots of deer, hawks, and brown pelicans). It's a great spot to head out from to the Long Beach Peninsula and South Bend. If you haven't been out to the WA coast, the incredible beaches, bays and scenery are really different and gorgeous. ||I can't recommend it enough for a long weekend, although honestly taking a mid-week getaway would probably be even better from a chilled-out perspective. We went in summer, but the coziness and charm would be great in winter, too.

We loved the Tokeland Hotel! It was very relaxing and comfortable. We played cards, took a nap in the shade, and enjoyed a fun bike ride to the Marina where we saw pelicans dive-bombing for fish. We took a drive to Grayland for a beach walk and to Westport for a look around. The highlight, though, was the spectacular food at the Wandering Goose. Everything we tried was delicious.

I was so excited to visit this incredible property, restaurant and hotel… and it was even more magical than I anticipated. The owners, staff and grounds are so lovely. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with amazing hospitality, ambiance, wonderful drinks, incredible food, and complete joy. Every guest seemed to be having the same incredible experience, there is a warmth, beautiful energy, artful vibe and connection that felt immediately. Add to that breathtaking taking views, incredible gardens, sweet fur friends and it felt like we were all there for the same perfect moment.

Wonderful place lovely historic hotel beautiful grounds and sitting areas. Love the fireplace room. Room is small but There are comfortable chairs sofas etc to read or just enjoy a glass of wine. Full bar there. The hotel animals roam freely throughout but are very well behaved and so friendly. Courtney. Susie and Christina staff people were so nice to talk to and made us feel right at home. If you like ambience this is the place to stay.

I discovered this hotel online a few years ago. I have now been there five times in the last three years! The service is friendly and attentive, the food in the restaurant is amazing (the chicken fried pork chop is to die for!) and the fact that there are animals all over to hang out with in a relaxed, honey environment seals the deal. If you like a quiet, laid back vacation away from the daily rat race and want to spend time with cats, dogs, pigs, goats and all sorts of other animals, this is the place for you!

I’ve never felt more immediately welcomed and comfortable than I felt here. We stayed at Penelope’s cabin for two nights to celebrate our engagement, and within 2 minutes of arriving we were already planning our next trip back! The cabin and main hotel are so beautifully designed — you can tell that every single item was intentionally curated and placed with care. The staff are so friendly and you can tell that they truly love working here. Chatting with them and other folk in the common areas was a highlight of our stay. 10/10 in literally every regard!!!

The Tokeland Hotel is a wonderful experience. The parlor areas on the first floor are comfortable, inviting and positively funky eclectic. So many interesting art pieces, warm fireplaces, amazing staff—congenial, warm and attentive. The food at the restaurant was amazing, delicious. We highly recommend eating there. We loved the tide flats behind the hotel— we even met two fellows doing green crab research who were fascinating to talk to. The hotel offers a relaxing atmosphere; a visit to a Victorian past. I would put more hooks and hangers on the wall of the clean and lovely bedroom but otherwise it was a stellar experience b

Yelp
Whenever I am in Tokeland, I always make sure to stop by the hotel for a meal. This is some of my favorite food! The chicken fried pork chop, the scones and jam, the cakes, the crab benedict, and most recently the breakfast sandwich are some of my favorite things on the menu! Service can sometimes be a little bit slow when they are busy, but it is definitely worth the wait! Plus, who doesn't love hanging out in such a cool dining area? Such a fun vibe and atmosphere. I can't say enough good things about this place. I highly recommend you check it out!

Yelp
The Wandering Goose restaurant, previously located on Seattle's Capital Hill, flew south to the remote town of Tokeland a few years ago. Located in Willapa Bay by the mouth of the Cedar River, it has a population of only around 150 residents. With beautiful sunset views, the restaurant operates in Washington State's oldest resort hotel (the Tokeland Hotel which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places). When you step inside you can feel the history seeping out of every corner as you are transported back in time with candlelit tables and a cozy stone fireplace, tucked away in a comfortable seating space at one end of the building. Cuisine is Southern in its roots which pairs perfectly with the hospitality exhibited by the staff. Friendly and unrushed, you'll want to sit down, relax and sit a spell as you enjoy the surroundings and wonderful food. We ordered a first appetizer of Calamaris which was perfectly prepared with a just right, light breading. A mix of tentacles and rings, it was as tender as you could possibly hope for. The second appetizer was Southern Pimento Cheese with grilled baker potter bread, parsley & roasted walnuts. This was a wonderfully savory starter with the creamy texture of the cheese balanced against the light and crispy crunch of the bread. For my entree, I chose the Fried Chicken Plate with mashed yukon gold potatoes, pan gravy, benton's bacon collards, sea island peas, a buttermilk biscuit and raspberry freezer jam. One thing is for certain, and that's how perfectly this selection of salty, savory and sweet items combine for a satisfying taste experience. The chicken was fried perfection, the collard greens were uniquely flavored with a hint of sweetness from the candied bacon used in its preparation and the biscuit was light, airy and buttery... heavenly when combined with the raspberry freezer jam. I couldn't make it out the door without stopping at the pastry case and getting a chocolate chip & toffee cookie for the long moonlit drive home along this beautifully remote part of the Washington coast...I only wish I would have ordered more!

Yelp
The food was delicious. We shared the special carrot soup and a frisee - veggie/grain salad. I had a special (pork with asparagus and grits), he had fried chicken with collard greens, mashed potatoes and a massive biscuit. BTW the gas's of red wine I chose was perfect for the soup. I believe it started with a V

Yelp
We often camp at Grayland beach and this is one of our go to spots for dinner. This restaurant is so beautiful with genuine old style charm. My husband and I shared the wedge salad, at $20 it was pricey but so delicious!! Nice crunchy and tasty bacon and delicious dressing. Three of us ordered the rockfish and one ordered the fried chicken. All were excellent!! 5 stars. The rockfish is so tender and has a perfect crust! Rice middlins and sea island peas were so good!--Yum.....Chicken crunchy and he loved that it stayed piping hot until he bit into it, buttermilk biscuit and jam was divine !! Molten lava cake to finish it off, cannot recommend this however, it was dry and too hot with lo no molten center. Animals wander through this restaurant which did not bother us at all, in fact we enjoyed this.

Yelp
I first heard about this hidden gem from my cousin and I made sure I had to try this spot. The vibe is cute and cozy! They have a little corner in the back with a fireplace and some couches. We came during lunch rush so it was pretty busy. We waited almost 40 minutes to get our food.. the service could have been a little bit better. However, it was worth the wait because the food was amazing!!! I ordered the sawmill. It came with fried chicken, eggs, biscuit, and potatoes on the side. The eggs just melts in your mouth and pairs very well with the fried chicken. If you're in the area, definitely check this spot out.

Yelp
This place is very unique and worth a visit. The food is also unique with amazing pasties. The prices are a bit high. It's a bring your dog (and I think there is a resident cat) kinda place.

Yelp
Amazing food, stellar service, cocktails that are inventive and delicious. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Absolute food, drink and ambiance perfection. Cozy, warm, friendly and delicious. Admittedly arrived expecting a lot since we loved the Wandering Goose (prior restaurant in Seattle that alas did not survive the pandemic) and even then it exceeded my expectations. Everything was delicious and amazing - we ate 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 2 dinners there over the course of our stay and wish that there could have been more. I honestly loved everything but some memorable standouts: the grits, the pimento cheese appetizer, the arugula salad, the gumbo special, the biscuits, the Livi's Little Dragon drink and the margarita, the Oyakandon, the steak and frites. It was ALL SO GOOD! Go! It's fantabulous.

Yelp
The food is always excellent here, definitely the best restaurant in the area! I've never had a bad meal and all the dishes are very unique! My favorite dishes are the fried chicken, wedge, pimento cheese dip and the ribeye! Recently I took my sisters for brunch and Alex was our server; she was outstanding! The best service I've ever had here! Personable, funny, prompt and she gave us so much great information about the restaurant, hotel and food!

Yelp
Perfect get away. Time capsule yourself into a cozy little spot. This is my family's day trip get away. Pastries and coffee are on point. Cocktail bar is solid. In just a few single word descriptions. Peaceful Hemingway Sentimental Relaxing

Yelp
Ambiance is the key word at this restaurant/hotel. Built in 1886. Antique wood furniture and a wood burning fireplace. Guess it's popular for weddings and honeymoons. The food is plentiful, good and a tad pricey. The three of us had different versions of sausage and biscuits. The sawmill was best. The biscuits are "drop" biscuits, which "in my opinion " aren't as good as buttermilk or southern style. Had to request coffee refills. For desert we shared a huge cinnamon roll which was warm and tasty.

Yelp
Amazing food and baked goods, outstanding ambience, gorgeous views. The wedge salad and homemade biscuits were the best. Definitely add the fried chicken.

Yelp
It was our first time in the area and we'd set out to have Dinner at the North Cove restaurant but it was randomly closed. This turned out to be a really great thing for us as our back up plan was the Wandering Goose inside the Tokeland Hotel. What a gem! Immediately, we loved the ambiance and warm, historic feel there. Our table for two in the corner was lovely with a view of the water and the fire pit area outside, and also the cats which reside here. One even came to join us at the table for a bit. I had a mocktail that was wonderful and my boyfriend said the same about his margarita. We shared a cup of the razor clam chowder and it was great. I ordered one of the specials which was a creole gumbo and it was fantastic. My boyfriend had the fried chicken dinner which was also wonderful. But the biggest star of this show was the homemade biscuit and jam served his meal. Hands down, the best biscuit either of us had ever eaten. We were stuffed but not about to leave a crumb of that thing behind. It was that good. The service was great, the overall feel of the place was great, we felt it was entirely worth the price and we are already thinking about when we'll go back there. If you're in the area, you must eat here. Also, this is the oldest hotel in WA state which is also really cool.

Yelp
Really cool get away spot on the outskirts of Washington, went for my buddies wedding this year. The stay in was cool, lots of vintage stuff to look at. Dinner and breakfast was amazing, very tasty; staff is polite and very catering to your needs. My buddies wedding was amazing

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place enough! Is there anything more beautiful than finishing an incredible meal in a rustic hotel, then snuggling up to a roaring fire on leather sofas, surrounded by books and art, while sipping a Manhattan or sazerac? The answer is no. We absolutely love coming out here several times a year with friends, family, or just a romantic getaway weekend. This hotel is beyond charming and has more character than any other place I've ever stayed. It's rated a 2-star hotel online and I guess that's because of listed amenities, but I'll take this level of personal service and attention with fewer "amenities" any day. They greet us with champagne, take us to the room, explain the property and how things work, and make sure you know about the restaurant offerings. The rooms are cozy, beds are comfortable, ear plugs are provided (140 year old walls), and the bathrooms are always spotless. This place is a VIBE. The staff really make you feel like you're family, which is why the service isn't fussy; it's really good. If you want something, ask and they'll make it happen if they can. Here's my one callout: I don't think this is a good place for people who feel entitled, which is why I love it here. You're one of 40 people staying here on any given night and all are treated as equals. I've seen some people come here who behave like they're somehow above others and the results aren't great. Yes, it can get lively. Chickens and geese, infamous adherents to early mornings, live here and behave accordingly. Use the ear plugs. This hotel also has a fantastic community vibe and is quite calm in the mornings and bustling at night. Be willing to make conversation, make new friends, and condone a level of noise and music to sustain that vibe. Lean into the charm and you will not be disappointed! Then there's the food. Do I really need to say anything more about the incredible food that hasn't already been covered? As a man born and raised in the South, Heather has had my heart since I first ate at The Wandering Goose in Seattle. Everything is delicious, which feels like a cop out, but I don't know how else to say it. The oysters, shrimp, grits, burger, steak, spaghetti, Japanese omelette, fried chicken, coffee Cake, hummingbird cake, biscuits (!!!!), wine selection, rockfish (!!) and salads are all incredibly fresh, well-seasoned, sometimes with a kick, and more than filling. We've tried almost everything on the menu and struggle to decide every time we return. The wine and cocktails are on-point and the bacon is worth a trip of its own. You won't leave hungry; however, a quick run down to the marina and back is exactly 2 miles. Just sayin. There's also volleyball, corn hole, a plethora of board games, fire pits, wood-burning hot tub, chess set, goats, geese, dogs, cats, and breathtaking views. On a clear night, the stars are stunningly clear! Everyone here does their part to make this an unforgettable experience and I already can't wait to come back. Pro tip: wake up early, get some coffee, sit in the fireplace room, and just relax. Let this be your home away from home, but with much better food and someone else tends to the fire. :)

Yelp
Superb Dinner, ambiance, decor, refreshments and service here. Well worth the drive to experience this wonderful place. Make a plan to visit soon. Love it.

Yelp
The smell walking in told me the food would be amazing and it was. The seasonal salad with cucumber, heirloom tomatoes and perfectly ripe nectarines had me at the first bite - odd combo, but perfection! The best southern fried chicken dinner I have ever eaten. The greens, the peas, the chicken and the biscuit were all delicious. Worth the beautiful drive.

Yelp
Delicious food. I had the wedge, fried chicken and a biscuit. My husband had the cheeseburger and we both had more than we could eat. Happily took some home along with a p,b,j square and chocolate brownie cookie. Everything was excellent. Great antiques and atmosphere. A journey back in time to an old farmhouse with an unhurried appeal. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
We FINALLy made it here for dinner and we're so glad we did. Stay with me while I walk you through our meal and tour of the hotel. The restaurant, The Wandering Goose, was just lovely. The moment you walk in to the little gift shop you're greeted with local goodies, delicious smells (candles, treats, in addition to the kitchen), and fun antique-y decor. The menu is based on southern cuisine with local flare (in fact, all the local farms and businesses that supply the ingredients are listed in their menu). We ordered the beet salad to share and it was so good! Perfect pairing of beets, hazelnuts, grapefruit, and vinaigrette. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and although it wasn't the best s&g I've had (I've had many s&g dishes all across the nation), it was the most unique and the bacon pieces were so delicious. My husband ordered the lamb shank and sea peas as a side dish and he loved every bite - especially the peas (more like beans). The lamb was perfectly tender and nearly fell off the bone. The best dish, hands down, was their special sundae... homemade vanilla soft serve ice cream, topped with caramel sauce, sautéed spiced apples and toasted hazelnuts. I could have ate a whole bowl of just the caramel and hazelnuts. They were excellent. My husband ordered the crème brûlée and we nearly licked the dish clean. Both desserts were perfect. Our server, Rosa, was kind and super attentive. Gus, the chunkiest lab you'll ever meet, was also kind and super attentive- so much so that he made sure to go to each table to check on everyone's meals. (Yes there is a lab roaming around the dining room, along with a couple cats too). The pets definitely added to the uniqueness of this place but everyone loved them. We were finishing our meal around closing time and asked Rosa if we could sneak upstairs to see the hotel rooms so she tracked down the housekeeper/historian/tour guide, Rosie. Rosie has been working there for 30 years so knew a thing or two about this place. She showed us multiple rooms while proudly showing off the hotel and providing different historical facts as well as plans for expansion. The hotel has a wood burning hot tub (plans for another one as well as a better walkway to and from). Each room has been completely redone with new decor, beds and bedding. Bathrooms are communal. The grounds have lots of yard games - perfect for the summertime. They plan to add cabins in the future as well as a tavern like there was years ago. I can't wait to try other items on their menu (Rosie said we have to try their hummingbird cake- it's a must) and stay a night or two for a weekend getaway. Do yourself a favor and make the drive to beautiful Tokeland and experience historical charm at its finest.

Yelp
Always a 10/10 experience, amazing food and ambiance. Heather is so warm and welcoming every time we visit, it's a family affair!

Yelp
10/10 food, service and vibe. I don't often rave over a place, but this deserves it. Food was prepared with fresh ingredients, served hot! The Hotel is frozen in time and all the staff we encountered seemed to be awesome people. The star of the show was the biscuit and raspberry freezer jam. I love nothing more than leaving a place feeling completely satisfied. We arrived right at 4 for dinner services and were waited on and received food quickly. I would expect the wait time for food to increase as they get into dinner services. The sacrifice you make for fresh, real food. This is not fast food so be patient and kind. It will be worth it.

Yelp
We had to re-book our trip. They were accommodating and easy. We have been so excited to go there as we have been big fans of the owners former restaurant The Wondering Goose. The moment we drove up it was apparent that Tokeland is a magical place. The sound of the, ocean, animals, and the thought out playlist really set the escape from the city The wonderful staff greeted us, and helped us. When one person was unsure of an answer they tapped on a teammate to help. It was clear that all the employees and owners were a team. The food is out of this world. We had both Breakfast/Lunch and Supper here for three days and never repeated a meal. Each dish is thought out, balanced and presented nicely. Even something as simple as a wedge salad was so good with the Benson bacon, and I added a piece of fried chicken. The baked goods are worth the trip alone. I LOVED the Steen's Cane Syrup cookie, as well as the Jamaican coconut cake. The cocktail list was soooo good. Each drink with a different finish and often in a coorisponding locally made cup. The hotel was so cool! We stayed in a Haunted room. It had great character. The staff really prioritized us guests and there was tons to do on premises. The decorations and attention to detail really show. We look forward to coming back in the winter to see Tokeland Hotel in a different lens.

Yelp
After visiting the Tokeland Hotel a few times in the last couple years, we decidedly found a home away from home. That was why we wanted our small 23 person wedding party to gather here and eat a meal together. The food was out of this world. The setting on the back lawn was perfection. The service was beyond all expectations. Family and friends cannot stop talking about how immaculate the meal was and we are so pleased to have been able to share such an experience with our closest family and friends. If you're thinking about hosting a meal at the Tokeland Hotel, do not hesitate. For those interested in the specifics, here is what my party ate (family style) - Bruschetta (A figgy balsamic glaze was the highlight) - Panzanella Salad (GORGEOUS presentation and delicious all around) - Blackberry Glazed King Salmon - Cannot emphasize enough how good this was. - Hummingbird Cake (Our mutually agreed upon favorite dessert from our previous visits, and now our "wedding cake" as it were) Dancing butterflies, a young buck relaxing in the back lawn shade, cats strolling the grounds looking for new friends, and Gus (the hotel's resident yellow lab) checking in with us to make sure everything was satisfactory. They'll be talking about this dinner for a while. What a breath of fresh air. We'll be back again, and again, and again.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! So cozy and eclectic! We were seated right away and got to people watch while we waited a long time to get waited on. Not a big deal as we had a lot to look at. Prices were much higher than an average cafe or breakfast place, but everything was above average. Great chai latte and eggs Benedict. I would recommend it for the experience of the atmosphere alone. We waited a long time for the food after it was ordered to the point that we checked in with the wait staff.

Yelp
Very cool little restaurant tucked away in Tokeland, WA. As soon as you walk in, you can feel the old school vibe of the 100+ yr hotel. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the razor clam chowder, rockfish, raw oysters, shrimp and grits, all of which were delicious. Oysters were fresh, the best clam chowder (according to my kids), and the breaded rockfish wasn't oily and perfectly seasoned. Probably the best fish dish I've ever had. Would've been a 5 star experience if I didn't have to walk up to the waiter to order more clam chowder.

Yelp
Limited options in this part of the world so we ate both dinner and breakfast the next day here. Dining room an eclectic mix of furniture and styles. It is all in a hotel that has been there since, I believe, the turn of the century so it's homey not chic. It's dog friendly but you sit out in the lobby area and not the dining room. Menu was varied with an emphasis on local producers. Food well prepared and plentiful. Cocktail list was respectable and some fun combos. Wine list a tad steeply priced but have seen worse. Service was solid and definitely recommend a reservation. Did not stay at hotel so have no comment there.

Yelp
What a shock to find such delicious, creative, licovore cuisine in a quirky old inn in the lost Washington coast. We were here to forage mushrooms and brought a half pound of perfectly field dressed local boletes to our table. The chef agreed to use them in our appetizer. The mushrooms were so beautiful and fresh, the toast so thick and hearty, that we crunched our way t bliss. The chef cooked the mushrooms thoroughly adding fresh sage and lemon zest which really made the dish song with high and low flavor notes. And the pork chop was perfectly paired with baked apple slices accompanied by roast root vegetables including beets and parsnips all sitting on a cloud of rice grits. We are hotel guests and the restaurant is the high point.

Yelp
Amazing place.. southern fusion menu. The rooms are top tier old school beautifully appointed. They maintain an intriguing menagerie of farm animals and a cook's garden. It is a long way from my home but is worth the trip to soak in the remote, charming feel of early 20th century travel.

Yelp
My husband and I took a trip up to Tokeland while we were staying at cape disappointment and I would say it was worth the drive. The food was more on the pricier side but that is definitely due to it being made in house. I had the saw mill made with a homemade biscuit and fried chicken and it came with amazing potatoes! The hotel was decorated with taste that made it feel homey, and Gus and another pup hung out to greet the guests. Service was decent, seemed more like they were laid back for the front of the room but maybe they had stuff they were doing in the back that kept them busy. Overall i definitely recommend this spot and if we come back in the area we will stop by again!

Yelp
What a wonderful hidden gem! A nice scenic drive from Westport. This restaurant has a southern cuisine flair. Shrimp n grits! Oh yes, I said shrimp n grits. Stone ground grits, they even sell them. My friend has the burger and truffle fries. Fresh cut potatoes fries. I didn't know this place existed, but now that I know it does, I will be visiting again when in Westport.

Yelp
even in my darkest place, there is something about a pleasant dining experience that distracts me from all the turmoil going on. Tokeland Inn was one of those places, especially the 1st time I went there for breakfast 3 months ago, perfect ambiance with the quaint rustic historical inn with it's eclectic art out front to greet you to the warmth of the interior, especially the dining area, fascinating antiques & artifacts as you wander thru a den to go to the "lew", & especially that 1st time there was this amazing music being subtly piped in that I now have added to my personal music library. My most favorite meal for dining out is breakfast, a treat for myself not as some glorious culinary meal to rave about, but a time just to step back from the rat race & relax to one of the most simple pleasures in life some of us just don't have time for anymore. For me the perfect breakfast is a ham & cheese omelet, fresh hash browns with ketchup, sour dough toast with orange marmalade jam, a clean chlorine-free glass of cold water, & sometimes a good cup of coffee. Tokeland Inn restaurant's menu has interesting options but for breakfast not interested in french toast, biscuits & gravy, pork chops, or rockfish, don't mind trying the Eggs Benedict which I did later & it was the best I've ever had, but they did have a 2 egg breakfast served any way you wanted. To my surprise several times before when I asked if they could do a ham & cheese omelet, the waitress checked with cook, possibly the manager too, and came back & said no problem. The 1st time I was there & asked, the young waitress said she was not sure if they would do that but without hesitation or my asking she said she would check, & the cook said no problem & it was perfect. 2nd time, the waitress was a little fussy about it but agreed to check, & again it was no problem. So here it is 3 months later from my 1st & most memorable dining experience, and 4th time starting with a relaxing but sometimes chilly or wet 90 mile ride on my Harley thru Chehalis to Pe El to Raymond to Tokeland, looking forward to my breakfast at Tokeland. This one shattered any expectation of another calm relaxing meal at one of my most favorite places. When I was seated & asked if it was possible for the cook to make the 2 egg breakfast served any way as a ham & cheese omelette, the waitress interupted very loud & rude with a "we don't do omelets, they took that off the menu a long time ago", and when I tried to explain that yes, I know, but I've asked before, & they did it for me, but she interrupted me with the same response again, and when I was finally able to ask if she would check with the cook after being interrupted several more times with the same response, she finally agreed she would check & scurried off in a huff, then came back to smugly tell me no they couldn't with the same explanation & a "I told you so" attitude. Anyway, I should have walked out right then, I understand in most circumstances the menu is the menu except for those extraordinary restaurants & staff willing to go the extra mile, at the time there were maybe 3 other tables already served so not as busy as other times there, but the way the waitress rudely interrupted me & went on, I rode 90 miles without breakfast & needed to eat so I ordered the 2 eggs over easy with the sausage. Eggs cooked ok, generous portion of 2 sausage patties had great taste but too peppery hot for me, vinaigrette rosemary tainted country potatoes bleh & much prefer hash-browns but not dare ask to another "it's not on the menu, blah blah blah" rant, & southern down home biscuit with homemade strawberry jam was amazing & probably great in a biscuit & gravy meal I don't mind but not first on my breakfast options, and this is 1st time I finally got a biscuit with my breakfast, always left out before but I didn't complain because they made exception twice to make me a ham & cheese omelet. To add to that, they automatically add a 15% gratuity which I have no problem because they deserve it for good service, last 3 times I generously tipped on top of that for the extra service they did, like as in an extra $20 in most cases because I really had an amazing dining experience before. I guess summer is over & they lost the more younger & friendly staff, although I did run into other staff working there, some I talked with before, that was very friendly & welcoming. Paid the bill with no complaints, waitress did check on me from time to time although I zoned everyone out listening to my own music from my iPhone with noise cancelling earbuds. I left very upset & disappointed but headed down the road to Westport & the beaches & did not let her spoil the rest of my day. Meal ok & coffee good, but they will not have to worry about me asking for a ham & cheese omelet anymore, time to move on & find a new place worth the long travel to a coastal destination that actually serves what I really like with a friendly & welcoming atmosphere.

Yelp
This place sells itself as a fine dining experience and does have a very classy feel to the whole building. However, the staff allowed two dogs to roam around the dining hall and rush guests at their tables. From reading other reviews I gather this wasn't an isolated incident. One of the dogs was shedding rather badly too, which made me a bit paranoid that I'd wind up eating dog hair at some point. With a mandatory 30% gratuity I'd expected the folks working the restaurant to enforce basic public health rules.

Yelp
Amazing baked goods, eclectic decor, friendly staff, fresh squeezed juice for mimosa flights and resident kitties. Who could ask for more? We had a wonderful breakfast here while razor clamming in Grayland.

Yelp
We visited this restaurant in September 2023, we had breakfast and dinner, and the food was awesome. Staff is very friendly. Ambiance is quite restful and really liked all the history and antiques.

Yelp
Best meal on our Washington state road trip. Yeah, it's pricey but it's the oldest hotel in the state and they get their ingredients from specialty suppliers (it's on the menu). Cry once and splurge. Salmon and rockfish were local and superb, along with the grits and some heirloom beans that I wish I remembered the name of. Edible nasturtiums grown on the grounds accompanied each course. Home baked cookie and our first decent cup of coffee since leaving SF topped off a memorable meal. The grounds are beautiful and we got to see some of the chickens that were let out to forage (see picture). We'll be back, and we promise not to demand an off-menu breakfast item and then leave a rambling 1-star review like that other bozo did. Table arrangement was quirky as there was an empty 6-seater and an 8-seater table in the middle of the restaurant empty while 3 couples waited in the lobby. Maybe replace the 8-seater with some smaller tables that could be separated or merged as needed? Then more people could enjoy the great on-menu food faster.

Yelp
We came here with a large group last Friday. The people that worked there were very friendly. However, it felt very dirty inside. I am an animal lover, but I do not want animals running around in the restaurant I am eating. There was a cat going in and out of the kitchen. A sweet old dog was begging at the end of our table. When my sister-in-law went to go to the bathroom, she literally stepped in a pile of dog poop. In the restaurant!!! Unacceptable. Needless to say we will not be going back.

Yelp
I have eaten at the Tokeland Hotel Restaurant at least a dozen times. I have brought visitors there with high expectations. It is a fabulous vibe and the location is gorgeous. The food is excellent-for the most part-and the service is ok-hit or miss. This last time I went -for my birthday-was awful and I will not go back until they get better. I go back because when it is on-it is a great place to be. We were a group of 6-This is what happened. Waited 20 minutes to get a cup of coffee-it was not busy-our waitress was at the retail counter and the other 2 or 3 waitresses did not help her out. 2 of the meals were cold on arrival. 1 Eggs Benedict-which was requested without the meat and have tomato and greens instead-came back as a traditional Eggs Benedict They forgot to put my cousins meal inand she waited an hour for her food. She ordered grits and they were not the grits they normally served and were gross. They actually charged my cousin for her meal and for the tomato and greens. When asked why-the waitress said she tried but management said no. Tokeland is not cheap-in fact it is expensive but when it is good it is worth it. It was embarrassing and I will not bring any other people there again until they get their act together. I was going to bring a professional group of people there from Seattle the following week, but we decided to not go because of the experience. They need to do better. Word travels fast in a small community.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Tucked away near the end of the road in the Tokeland Inn, this gem if a restaurant with a fresh approach to food in this area. The chefs bring their Southern style north with a very well curated menu. The staff is welcoming and attentive. The atmosphere is rustic meets gentile. Old meets modern style with stories of the old hotel, which is more than 100 years old, tales of fish in the sea, and even a game room loaded with board games by a large fireplace. I highly recommend this charming and authentic dining experience. We are coming back in November for a fall getaway.

Yelp
Built in 1858 this establishment is continuing to serve high quality food and cater to its patrons as a restaurant and hotel, even in the 21st century. You will find an eclectic atmosphere from a bygone era with the modern luxuries and the ability to dine with your family pet in the lobby. Just a heads up as were still in a pandemic, make sure to bring your mask, you can take it off as you're eating and drinking. A story of its past inhabitants will surely have you exploring the area, ask about room 7 and the fireplace if you get the chance. With a friendly lab named Gus to greet you while he jumps up and down with a positive disposition-make sure you give him some pets and he loves other dogs too! Inside it is as if you are stepping back in time. The food is something to behold, I won't spoil the details though if seeing is believing than I would highly encourage you to bring your family to try the food. My only gripe was it was a little slow despite not having anyone in the restaurant eating-though the wait is well worth it. I highly recommend the restaurant and a stay at the hotel upstairs if you're feeling up for it.

Yelp
Exceptional dining experience. Super friendly servers. Delicious food and an actual chef! Beautiful historical hotel with lots to look at from its history. The menu changes depending on what is available and mostly local. The fried chicken is amazing. The steak cooked to perfection.

Yelp
I'm local and have been here many times. Prior to COVID, they had far better service and were less restrictive where reservations were concerned. The food and atmosphere are unique and thoroughly enjoyable, and if you don't like dogs and cats visiting you during your meal, then this place isn't for you. It wasn't an issue for me. My last visit was, however, was disappointing. I could not get in on a weeknight for dinner without a reservation. When I arrived, it was clear that there was more than plenty of open tables, and customers walked in without a reservation. Where things fell down was with service. Once sat, we waited for about 20 minutes before someone came by and asked if we had been waited on. The waitress apologized and let me know this wasn't her table but would get someone for me. After another 10 minutes, some came by with water and a menu. I did not receive a cocktail menu, nor was I asked if I wanted a drink. My dinner, as always, was excellent, but my beverage was not refilled, and no one came by to check. On receiving my bill, it was for another table. After I brought this to another wait staff's attention, it was another 15 minutes before I got what I thought was a correct bill. It was still incorrect. The wait staff laughed this off, but I wasn't happy, especially given an automatic tip is applied. Given the experience, I would have never tipped that amount. I'll be back, and I'm hoping they made some service improvements. Also, it's one thing to have mandatory reservations when it's necessary, but if you know that it won't be a full evening, don't make them an absolute. It's not appealing.

Yelp
I love this place and have been a regular winter customer for years . Today will be my last. I was only customer in the entire place, I heard the ready bell ding and then waited 14 1/2 minutes for the waitress to bring my food as she was busy conversing with another staff member. Final straw was a $20 dollar salad becoming $26 with included gratuity on the bill . Dang I wasn't even able to using a tip to try for better service. And lastly the salad was left half eaten as so soggy from twice the amount dressing needed. Encourage you to try another place, it is really going downhill since opening.

Yelp
Ate here three times last weekend for my friends birthday weekend... Try anything on the menu, you will not be disappointed. everything they gave us was spectacular. I will say it again, so the people in the back can hear me... EVERYTHING WAS SPECTACULAR. Especially the service!!! (Thank you Ashley and Heather! You guys were great!!!) Crab benedict and Cold smoked salmon benedict = Amazing!!! The poached eggs and hollandaise could not have been better. The biscuits were like a gift from Louisville... soft and flakey on the inside and crunch but not falling apart. The sawmill is a big thumbs up, The hand formed house made brekky sausage is a must have and the Chicken fried porkchop was the best pork I have had in years. Did I mention that we had dinners also?!? Oysters on the half, fried chicken, fresh garden salad from their own garden!!! all worthy of the trip alone... and yet, I didn't even mention what the best things were... The baked goods! The baked goods is what they are known for, for a very big reason. That reason is because they are perfectly baked and not too sweet. They were so good, we brought a big sampler home for the kids. They made yummy noises also The space was very eclectic and felt like it should have been there. Not cluttered but not wanting for anything. Batman and I will be back, hungry!
