The 22 Best Restaurants In Baltimore - Baltimore - The Infatuation

"Step inside from the dark-painted exterior of Toki Underground, and you will wonder if you’re in a Tokyo speakeasy—skateboard decks rotate on the ceiling, service is prompt, and the ramen is luscious. Every noodle dish is a banger, though we’re partial to the Toki Classic, featuring tonkotsu pork broth and a generous serving of chashu pork. The appetizers are worth ordering too, like cloud shrimp that are fried in potato starch and somehow manage to be both umami-rich and very light. When available, the okonomiyaki brussels sprouts pack a sweet and spicy punch, and the karaage is well seasoned, juicy, and served with kewpie mayo. While nothing beats a hot bowl of ramen in the colder months, it’s just as good a stop in the summer, when their dog-friendly patio opens and you can sample from their more-than-respectable sake list." - michele berry

Foodless Pug Finally Gets A Real Menu Thanks to Toki Underground - Eater DC

"Customers at 10-year-old H Street watering hole the Pug can soon pair beers with steamed buns and egg rolls prepared in upstairs neighbor Toki Underground’s kitchen. Starting Wednesday, March 14, the renowned ramen shop will launch a menu exclusive to the Pug (1234 H Street NE), with small bar bites ($4 to $7) including fried chicken, cauliflower buns, and lumpia — an eggroll popular in the Philippines that’s an ode to Pug owner Tony Tomeldon’s Southeast Asian heritage. The idea to combine forces sprung from the fact that many Toki customers tend to grab a drink downstairs at the Pug while waiting for a seat anyway. Featured items heading below include watermelon radish crudo with furikake and lemon, as well as chocolate chip cookies with sweet red miso butter and cinnamon cream. The new menu will be available during Toki’s hours (Monday to Saturday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.)." - Tierney Plumb

Stopped by this restaurant for a bite to eat and had a wonderful experience! Our server was very personable and answered any questions we had about the items on the menu. The atmosphere were great, as well! The food did take a bit of time to prepare, but it was no issue since we were not on a time crunch. It's a nice laid-back place to grab lunch with friends.

We were here for a yelp event, but I saw that they served ramen so we had to order some. It was quite delicious. The egg, which I know is a very important component to many ramen lover's experience, was soft boiled and added that certain creamy richness that it is supposed to provide. The tempura battered shrimp (appetizer) were huge and fresh. I would certainly take my friends here. Be forewarned, the restaurant is in a shady neighborhood. Don't be afraid. It's worth the adventure.

Went to Toki Underground on a not-so-busy Monday night after a holiday weekend and really enjoyed the atmosphere. We were recommended to try the buns and loved how they were served as a build your own bun. We then ordered two different types of the ramen (after a longer than normal wait, we asked about our ramen and it seemed like they may have forgotten to input our order and they handled it great and put a rush on our ramens) and when they came out they looked amazing! The Mala Garlic Tonkatsu was VERY flavorful with an almost numbing sensation. The other brothless Dan Dan ramen we ordered was also amazing but was VERY salty and rich. We will definitely be back again to try the other ramens and appetizers on the menu.

A friend recently inviting me to check out this hidden gem in Baltimore City (Waverly area). INSTANTLY IN LOVE with the entire concept, menu, service and creative cocktails! Definitely adding Toki to my regular restaurant rotation. OLIVIER… IM COMING BACK FOR THAT RAMEN! 🍜

Google
I came for the fried chicken boa bun and the elote. The bao bun hit the spot, however the elote is no longer on the menu! Bummer. The curry chicken ramen was pretty good. I wasn’t a fan of the noodle itself but overall the dish was good. I had the fried vegan dumplings, that was good! Atmosphere was lowkey and the staff were attentive. I would come here again! Especially for that fried chicken bao bun!

I work in DC, so I’ve heard of the legendary Toki spot over there. Decided to go here with my friends after the thrift flea market a few blocks down right at opening, and was able to get a walk-in table. From the host, it either sounds like they don’t typically take walk-ins, or they were fully booked on reservations, so keep that in mind. Reason for the one-star is because of our server. He checked in on a party of 6 only once and brought out the wrong appetizer. Now this doesn’t warrant a review at all, but here’s the kicker: after we paid, he ran after us a few blocks down from the restaurant asking if his service was poor due to the lack of tip. Joke is, as a 6-top, we got auto gratuity of 18% on the bill. This wasn’t even an issue as we understood the automatic tip is industry norm, paid, and went our way home. It would’ve taken him 5 seconds of looking at our bill on the Toast POS to see that we tipped. Instead, he sprinted out the restaurant 5 min later and confronted us rather than double check to see if he actually got walked out on. I worked as a KBBQ server for 3 years and know how it feels to not be tipped. I’ve said the same lines said to me and my friends, but never to a table that actually did pay. Either this guy profiled us or wasn’t trained properly. Either way, not coming back and don’t recommend this spot. Try the DC location with the bib gourmand award, if anything. Edit: Just found out we got served by the owner. Nice.

Google
In hindsight, the service here started off a bit cold. My group did not make a reservation, and when we attempted to walk in to be seated we were met with confusion and had to wait several minutes to be seated after the server got approval from another employee (who I presume to be the manager). Upon entry, it was basically empty, and over the hour we were there only a small handful of patrons entered. Point being, it seemed we were initially met with friction when trying to dine here. I ignored it at the time because I figured there might’ve been reservations coming in soon (and this they would’ve had to be mindful of seating availability), but that wasn’t the case. In any case, we were seated, ordered, and received our food with only a few hitches. Overall, the food was decent. One of my friends didn’t receive part of his order, but they removed the cost of the missing component, so all was well. They also charged us for an extra karaage, but I spoke with the server and got it removed. After fixing the mistakes on the check, we paid and left. After we’d made it a block away, the server (who I think is also the manager?) appeared before us slightly out of breath and began questioning whether or not we enjoyed the service. He acknowledged that he hadn’t checked on our table as much, but it was clear he was alluding to the tip. The confusing part is that we did tip 18%. Our party was 6 people, and presumably they have automatic gratuity for parties of a certain size because the tip was included in our bill. The server had chased us a block from the restaurant to press us for information about our tip, when the restaurant’s OWN SYSTEM had automatically charged us for the tip. Surely an employee would know about the automatic gratuity for parties over a certain size, right? But even if not, the check had “18% Gratuity” listed on it. They’d made mistakes on the check and changed it multiple times, but even throughout the process of actively editing the check, they somehow missed that they charged us auto-gratuity. After we told the server that chased us a block away we had in fact tipped, he lingered around us for slightly too long, offered a lukewarm “sorry”, and walked back to the restaurant. I can only chalk this instance up to two possible things, incompetence or profiling. Neither excuses chasing patrons a block to grill them about a tip you did in fact receive (as clearly visible on the bill), but hopefully it is the former and not a case of demographic profiling. The hesitation to let us dine in initially makes me wonder though. No food is worth being harassed and made to feel like a bad person, but especially not the food we received from Toki. It is a shame, because the ambiance inside was quite nice.

Google
Amazing Asian fusion dishes and drinks. I love their happy hour specials. The baos, ramen and dumplings were really good. Seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The indoor dining area with the ceiling decorations were great

Yelp
I was not much of a fan of the DC location as it is too hip for me and the food not worth the long waits. I finally tried it when they did a collaboration with a favorite chef, Colin Liang of Watersong. The collaboration was simply incredible. We got in with no wait just as they were closing. We never felt rushed and the food rocked. Since then we have been back 2 times and both times the food was really really good and the service superb. The portions are not huge so we k ow to order a starter and main for each of us, plus an extra dish. Their beverage service is very good indeed. We would be here more often if it were closer in. It is a hike for us to get there but we do it regularly. And now we are going to some theaters nearby so we can visit more often!

Yelp
Disclaimer: i was here for a Yelp event but ordered separately on their menu. Pavlova was so goood. Differing pronounced textures, not too sweet. Chicken Karaage was solid but I'd like a little bit more breading. My favorite thing on their menu is this summer cold noodle thing (sry don't remember the name). Refreshing sauce, good bite on the noodle. Crowd pleaser for sure. Ramen was mid. Advertised as spicy with mala but had to ask for more mala and more spice. I'm not crazy for spicy food but as served it knew it needed more umpgh.

Yelp
This is the BEST ramen I have ever had. The presentation was amazing, the taste was spectacular. We had the dumplings, and they were delicious and tasteful. The desert was heavenly. "Pavlova" Meringue filled with joy and happiness. I can't say enough of the great service and attention we received.

Yelp
This is a quick bar only review. Came for a private event but supported the happy hour beforehand. Our bartender was very kind. I got the sangria and sampled a piece of my friend's chicken dumpling. I totally would like to have those again they were so good. The sangria was ok. The place is really cute .... I love the underground decor skateboards stickers noodles lol very edgy. I was very apprehensive about it being on in this neighborhood but we survived and the patrons were very diverse. The parking situation is insane maybe call ahead to get exact instructions on parking.

Yelp
Good food: the ramen is super flavorful. Soup (I had original/classic one) was thick and creamy. You can tell they must have boiled it for hours for the soup to look like that and very umami. The egg is noodle is perfectly processed-- melted egg yolk, so tender. Service is wonderful. They check on us frequently, asking if we need anything or add more order. Very nice and kind. When we order they didn't bring a booklet but simply remembered our order. Apparently they know their business very well. Ambience is good too. There are not many tables, but each with enough space in between to keep conversation private. Cocktail (gin with yuzu, and peppercorn) was awesome. I like how slightly bitter it was. But very strong aroma of the yuzu. I enjoyed a lot.

Yelp
Came on a Friday night - I would've loved to make reservations but the website only showed we reservations in DC and didn't allow me to change the location. I asked about this at the host stand and they had no explanation, I guess maybe try to call because it was packed. Luckily my husband and I were able to get bar seats. We got the Brussels sprouts to split which were SO good! Loved the mayo and fish flakes, they were sweet and crunchy. Definitely would recommend these. For entrees I got the Tokyo Curry Chicken Ramen and my husband got the Garlic Tonkotsu with Pork. Mine was excellent - the chicken was somehow still crispy even sitting in the broth. The broth itself was the star - super flavorful, sweet and spicy. Also loved the noodles and the soft boiled egg! My husbands was just ok - the pork was sort of mushy and tasteless. Service was friendly, quick, and they explained their dishes. We were in and out in about an hour. Next time I would get a reservation, I just don't totally know. Additionally, the location is definitely sketchy, not somewhere you want to walk too far so be mindful when parking and leaving any valuables in your car. Overall, I'd love to return to try some of the buns and other dishes. It is a small restaurant with mostly bar stool/high top seating which is uncomfortable for long periods, so pretty much somewhere just to eat and leave, not hang out. Keep that in mind if you want a nice night out with friends!

Yelp
We went to Toki Underground on a random Wednesday. It was quiet and lowkey. We sat at the bar where you can watch the chef cook and the bartender craft your drink. It was such a vibe. There's an outside patio where I'm sure is delightful to sit out on during perfect weather days. I ordered the Toki classic ramen and tried the fried chicken steam buns. I love that the steam buns came deconstructed and you could build them up to your liking.

Yelp
Ramen is decent Service is good Venue could be cleaner IMO I'm curious to try the DC branch

Yelp
Food: dumplings, fried chicken buns and kimchi ramen are my faves. Drinks: great variety of sake available. Cocktails are interesting, some hit or miss for me. Service: very fast and friendly Ambiance: the main dining room is cute and cozy, the secondary one is a bit less friendly and the temperature in the winter fluctuates greatly from one end of the room (super hot) to the other near the doors (frigid)

Yelp
Everything about this experience was good from start to finish. My group received a warm welcome when we arrived and we were seated at a great table. I had one of the sakes as my drink, and we split the shrimp and chicken appetizers. I chose the mushroom ramen as my main entree. Overall, ALL the food I was able to sample was amazing. Truly impressed with the food and highly recommend Toki Underground.

Yelp
The food was great and didn't disappoint. With how much this place was hyped I expected they're to be a wait. Thankfully it was full but no wait. The service was fast within a few minutes the server had come over and taken the drink and starter orders. I had the maple beer wings which were a delicious start. I would say this app was enough for me but not for sharing. The maple came through and were fried perfectly. Would recommend. I had the toki classic ramen for the entree. Again, toki underground nailed it. Getting all the notes right. Decent serving of noodles and meat. It left a little bit of am aftertaste which was peculiar but maybe I was just imagining it. The decor was unique with rotating skate decks on the ceiling. At the end, I checked in with yelp to score some free stickers. So beautiful, so creative.
google avatar

Sean W.

Yelp
Service was great. The fried chicken bao buns were delicious, I was expecting it to come already arranged(with the chicken, mayo, ginger in the bun) but it's not a huge deal that it didn't. I was very disappointed with the ramen. It had no flavor, the noodles tasted like they came straight out the plastic. The broth definitely needs more work.
google avatar

Gerald H.

Yelp
TIP: UBER HERE. The block that surrounds this location is very rough. We didn't have any issue - but if you're sensitive to this - you may want to be dropped off. We ordered a couple starters: bao buns (which came deconstructed) and I wasn't sure I liked it this way - especially when there's no knives to apply ingredients. The ramen was good - but with everything a la carte things added up quickly.

Yelp
A proper Ramen bar. I'm not sure what else needs to be said. I sat the edge of the bar. I ordered a Toki Classic. I ate it with gusto. Quickly, but enjoying everything. I finished quickly. A pair of what I'm guessing were undergrad girls talking next to me as the Super Bowl went on without any televisions to mark it. The food was excellent, the environment was oblivious and stellar. I will probably be back.

Yelp
We were on a quest for Ramen and Toki Underground didn't disappoint. I made a Reservation on Yelp, but it was not crowded during the 5 0'clock hour and plenty of seating throughout the restaurant was available. If i wasn't intentionally looking for the building I may have missed it. There was plenty of street parking available. The menu is creative and the food and drink were good. The fried chicken steam bun was a great start to our meal. The chicken had a nice heat. However, I found the steam bun not as soft/cloudlike as I would have liked. Our ramen was delicious and I was tempted to ask for my broth to go to sip on later. This business is a gem and I hope to return soon to try other items.

Yelp
My husband and I came for the first time tonight for dinner, and we will definitely be back! We didn't make a reservation, but we were able to get a seat at the bar immediately (this was around 7pm on a Friday). I would probably recommend making a reservation, especially for more than 2 people. The service was great! Everyone was really nice and attentive. One of the servers even gave us these spicy pickled peppers to have with our ramen. We ordered the cloud shrimp bao. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and was similar to a tempura shrimp. The baos did not appear to be made in house, but they were still good. The dish was served deconstructed. I would maybe order this again as just the shrimp. The cocktails were really good! I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but the cocktails definitely impressed us. The mala garlic tonkotsu ramen was flavorful and creamy. I will plan to try the Toki Classic next time. The pork belly was also really unique, as it was actually seasoned and had a smoky flavor to it. The Taipei curry chicken ramen was amazinggggg. I loved that it was still a broth (not too thick like a curry) but had the flavor of a Japanese curry, and the chicken was done perfectly. We parked right outside the restaurant, but we were a little hesitant about the street parking as we were not so familiar with the area. We may opt to Uber for next time. The vibes inside were totally different from outside. Casual but very well put together. There isn't a ton of seating, so better to have a reservation. All in all, it was a great experience and we are looking forward to coming back! :)

Yelp
Finally! An awesome ramen place in Baltimore has finally opened. Toki not only has delicious, slurp-able ramen but also has a wide array of mouthwatering appetizers. My friend and I went for New Year's Day lunch and indulged on the brussel sprouts, pickle plate, kimchi, pork potstickers, and the shrimp bao buns. The appetizers were all amazing except for the potstickers which came out cold and crunchy to the point of almost stale. Kind of disappointing but not a huge deal, since everything else was pretty on point. I tried the lobster ramen which rich, creamy with a soft boiled egg. Hands down the best ramen in Maryland! The service was great, everything came out super fast and we loved the ambiance inside!!

Yelp
such a cute little restaurant!! waiters were attentive, i would love to come back and try out the drinks sometimes as the drinks menu looks promising and unique. curry ramen: 10/10, just so good chicken karaage: 9/10 - really good and not too oily or heavy, but small portion toki classic: 7/10 my least fav for the night but not bad, the chashu was just a bit too oily for me and the taste was different from what i was used to

Yelp
Shop is in a "hole in the wall" Once you walk in, it's a warm climate with warm, dim lighting. You can sit in a half outdoor section as well, however we held off since it was a bit chilly. Service was good. The floral lemonade was strong, tart and a bit sweet. Good, nonetheless. 7/10 They give you a bottle of water to distribute via glass for the table. The chicken that comes in the curry ramen and can also be ordered as a side order is good. Great crisp on the breading, juicy and tender chicken. The curry ramen was creamy, flavorful and delicious. 8.5/10 Chicken wings were a unique seasoning and sauce. Nothing like I've ever tasted before. 7/10 Shrimp dish comes out as 3 jumbo shrimp on a bed of spicy mayo. I prefer my sauce on the side, so it's not overpowering, but it wasn't a big deal. 7/10 The pork belly in the pork belly mazeman is AMAZING. 10/10 The Brussels sprouts were tossed in a great sauce. Cooked perfectly 10/10

Yelp
Overall, this is a solid option for ramen in the Baltimore area. I've been a few times and have not had any major complaints with the food- their broth is rich and portions sizes are good. My group was pleasantly surprised by how tasty their house pickles are. Service is not the fastest, but not something that would prevent me from coming back. I find the addition of kale in the ramen bowls a bit odd, and it's not my favorite flavor. I plan to keep this restaurant in my local ramen rotation!
google avatar

Fabienne A.

Yelp
One of my Baltimore city faves. What I appreciated and sang a little song about was the size of the noodles! They were the perfect width, almost angel-hair-likes the Red Miso is savory, full of flavor journeys that make you excited about what your chopsticks will grab next. Get your Ramen on ASAP. P. S. - Also ordered the vegan steamed dumplings, a few 1st time drinks, and my bestie had the Mushroom Shoyu ramen..chef's kiss.

Yelp
I have been so excited to try Toki Underground, I have heard amazing things about their restauraunt in DC! I am glad they made an investment into opening a spot in Greenmount Ave. However, it was a little hard to find the entrance with no sign, but I went with the vibe for the arts. The waiter later explained a sign will be installed. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the ingredients in dishes like non-vegan elements in bun or dumpling. The main dishes were delicious! The steam bun appetizer was nice, but the buns were a bit stiff, I think the buns could have been steamed longer or worked to a fluffier consistency. I appreciated the warm plate, that was a nice touch. The bathroom was quite an experience, cozy blue light, church choir boys music washing into the room. The other bathroom was dark red, which was quite a contrast to the other bathroom. The interior is grudge, clean, punk, and inviting of creativity. We sat in the back of the restaurant which allowed more space for conversation. I would like to come again to sit at the bar and have a cozy meal.

Yelp
Met up with friends on a Friday night. I heard it can get crowded so I made reservation in advance. They don't have their own lot so you will have to use street parking. I found a spot on a side street about half a block away. The surrounding area is a little on the shady side so make sure to be aware of your surroundings. My party was seated right away on the enclosed patio area. Looks like it used to be a garage of some type. They have a garage door in the rear that looks like it can be opened up in the summer time. The waiter was friendly and took our orders right after we were seated. He made few recommendations on drinks as well as appetizers. I had a last samurai cocktail. It was their take on an old fashioned. Taste is similar but much lighter. He also recommended the Toki wings. They were sweet and a little spicy. For my main I had the Toki traditional ramen. It comes with pork belly, broccoli, egg, and seaweed. The broth was delicious and flavorful. Most of the menu is ramen so if you are a fan you will enjoy it.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place. I came here on a whim because I was in the area and have been MEANING to try this place. They were kind enough to let my friends and I dine 30 minutes before they closed the kitchen, and still gave us excellent customer service. The decor of the restaurant is very chic, with the darker decor definitely compliments the restaurant and its location. It sort of felt like a speakeasy that wasn't so secret. Now the food and the drink I ordered. Marvelous. 10/10. I highly recommend the Yuzu Sake. Specifically the hot one. Now I ordered the chilled version, still fantastic, but I 100% guarantee the warmed version of this drink will melt in your mouth. Definitely will be trying it next I'm I go. The karaage was good. Tender and excellent with the curry broth. The shrimp bao was *chef's kiss*. I could literally eat 10 of them. It was super tasty. My total was $28, I'm actually surprised it wasn't more. The portions of everything were a nice size. Definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
I was able to visit yesterday in the early afternoon and I had high hopes since I knew it was a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The moment I walked it it had such a cool, modern but also retro vibe that was a perfect atmosphere for dinner. I took a seat at the bar and it was the best choice because i was able to get my food immediately, and see it being easily made as well. I started with the wakame salad which had a great vinegary taste, and the vegan dumplings which we super filling. Next, the Toki wings had an such a unique batter taste and had a good amount of meat on them. The star of the show though was the mala garlic tonkotsu, which I would probably drink straight if I could. It starts off as a light flavor but the packs a deep punch, different from typical ramen spots. The chashu was unique in being a thin strip, but it didn't miss any of the char or taste. Their new dessert thats being rolled out next week, Purin, had a complexity of flavors from the flan, the sauce, and the crunchy nuts on top. The icing on the cake were the Hinoki Mori and yuzu thai iced tea- they were so so delicious and perfect pairings to the meal!
google avatar

Suhasini G.

Yelp
Very cool interiors, and a very interesting space for a ramen shop. There were so many small details like the bathroom that made the restaurant really neat. The service was great, it seems like a relatively new restaurant in Baltimore and they gave us lots of reccs. We went during the happy hour time and got an ordered quite a bit of our meal at a discount which was great!! The drinks were phenomenal, we got the Toki Monster and the smokiness of the pork complimented the whiskey so well. Definitely a place to come out with your friends and get some drinks and apps!

Yelp
Tucked away on Greenmount Ave, Toni Underground truly feels like an "underground" experience in whisking you away to a cozy, memorable dining experience. With just a few high top tables and seating at a counter overlooking the kitchen, the setting is intimate and inviting. Perfect for date night or catching up with a close friend. Service was prompt, attentive and gracious in providing menu recommendations. We decided to take a family style approach in making our way through a menu that left us spoiled for choices. But first, sake. I tried two different options, both fantastic and unique. The 4oz carafe option is a nice option for a single person pour. We started with the pan-fried vegan dumplings, which, mind blown. Exceptional flavor, melt in your mouth initially crispy then tender dumpling dough, with a killer sauce and beautifully shaved scallions to boot. Next up, the sake-battered cauliflower bao buns. Also a show stopper. The cauliflower had a wonderful umami-forward batter giving a crunch to a tender interior. Paired with fluffy bao buns and pickled veg, this was a great dish to share. Last, we had to try Toki's take on dan dan noodles. Absolutely my favorite dish of the night. The trick to this dish lies in the sauce, and Toki nails it with a complex Chinese five spice centric one that envelopes fresh, perfectly cooked noodles. The shiitakes bring an earthiness to the dish, while the cashews add a welcome richer crunch. Miso-chilli paste, pickled ginger and fresh cilantro and shaved scallions complete the bite. Also an excellent portion for sharing! Can't return soon enough!

Yelp
Toki Underground is the cutest, quaint ramen spot I've ever been to! You definitely need a reservation because the restaurant is quite small and gets busy quickly. Food: I ordered the Kimchi ramen and my dining companion had the Classic Toki Ramen. I love spicy food so it was a no brainer for me to order the Kimchi ramen. Spice permeates through and through the broth...it was delicious and filling. I also tried the gyoza which was good. Service: The waiter was attentive and took note that I liked my ramen spicy, so he brought over additional spices for me to add. I will say that the location of Toki isn't the greatest. Let's just say if I didn't find parking directly in front of the restaurant, I thought twice about honoring my reservation--which was around 7p and dark.

Yelp
I have never had better food than I did here! They were able to accommodate our group of 12 pretty last minute, there is street parking and they have a gravel parking lot just a little bit up the street, and we came when a thunderstorm was suppose to hit and the outside seating has a covered portion so we stayed dry! The food came out quick, the drinks were amazing, and I wish I could have ordered 1 of everything on the menu. The inside is such a cool vibe and they have little "easter eggs" throughout that you can search for. This is a MUST GO if you are in Baltimore!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I used to go to Toki DC all the time back in the day, glad they opened up a spot in Baltimore! Still love the Tapei Curry Chicken ramen and pan fried gyoza. The pickle plate was quite good. + easy to make a reservation on Yelp + lovely staff + cool vibes and decor - $3.50 can of soda eeeeeeeeee

Yelp
Food wise, this place is a 5. We had a large group and they were very accommodating. The ramen was very flavorful and tasty. The inside was very cool with exposed brick and small things around to make for a great time. I will definitely be going back as the managers went out of their way to make sure I had a 5 star experience. That says a lot about a business. Run, don't walk to this place as I assure you, you will enjoy your experience. I had the curry ramen and they got it right. The chicken thigh was amazing. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I could eat this soup every night. It's hearty and creamy and just perfect. The fried chicken bao are fantastic as well. Truly there's nothing here that I've tried that hasn't been fantastic. There tends to be a wait, but for food this good, it's worth it.

Yelp
Delicious food in a nice intimate setting! Stopped by Toki Underground for dinner as it has been on my list of places to try. First off, the service was amazing. Our server was really knowledgeable and I respected that he asked us upfront about any allergies or dietary restrictions and had a bunch of suggestions based on what we said. The food was delicious as well! I tried two appetizers: the sake-battered cauliflower steamed buns and the shiitake-yake. For the sake-battered cauliflower steamed buns, I thought all of the items to make it complimented each other well but I wish the steamed bun was a little bit fluffier and the cauliflower a little bit crispier. The shiitake-yake was like a potato dumpling with shiitake and some other veggies stuffed inside. The exterior was crispy and the inside soft which kind of gave me a hash brown vibe. For the ramen, I tried the Toki classic. The ramen broth was nice and rich and the chashu pork belly was very delicious. Also, I liked that they used Chinese broccoli as the veggie in the ramen as Chinese broccoli has a nice crunch to it. Overall, would definitely recommend coming if you're in the area! Note: We did have a bit of difficulty finding the restaurant as there's no huge sign saying Toki Underground but if see the ramen noodles display above the outside of the restaurant, you are at the right place!

Yelp
I've heard good things about the Toki Underground in DC and was happy to hear that one opened up in Baltimore. The area isn't the best, but when we walked into the restaurant, it was like we were transported. It was very cool and trendy inside with its own hipster-y flair. We made reservations and were sat right away. We were seated outside. They have an AC unit, but with the large roll up door opened on the other side, it doesn't really do much. They have fans everywhere to keep you cool, although if you have long hair (with baby hair at the top) it makes it a little harder to eat without eating your hair. But the food is worth maybe accidentally getting your hair in your mouth. My friends are vegan, and they had some good vegan choices. They got the fried vegan dumplings for an appetizer, which they raved about. My husband got the silk tofu appetizer (which I believe is also vegan), and we were blown away. The miso ginger sauce it came with paired perfectly with the super soft tofu. The baos also looked fantastic (as we creeped on what the other tables ordered). I might get the shrimp next time. My friend got the vegan ramen with their special endorphins sauce on the side. Our other friend got the Dan Dan noodles that were also vegan and commented how creamy it was. My husband and I both got the toki classic. Wow, that broth is ridiculously good. I'm not the biggest ramen fan, but I can appreciate how flavorful that broth was. My mouth still waters thinking about that first bite. My husband loved it and also got a side of the endorphins sauce on the side. He didn't really find it spicy at all. One of the waitresses was an absolute hoot and so much fun. Service all around was awesome. They do include an 18% gratitude on your check already, but it was well deserved! They also have cool little set ups in the walls. There were little Pokémon figurines in the one closest to us! Overall, we really really enjoyed our food and overall dining experience. I could see us coming back a LOT which might be dangerous for our waistline. I have my eye on the yam noodles next time. Parking was pretty easy on the street!

Yelp
Met my daughter and her friend last night for dinner at Toki Underground and had a wonderful time. Such a unique decor, cozy high tables around a bar area but it was not noisy at all. I'm not one for drinking but the girls had ordered two different kinds of sake and I discovered I REALLY like Ozeki Nigori sake. It's creamy, velvety, and a little sweet and I did not have my usual allergic reaction to alcohol (my face turns red, and I have some trouble breathing, which is why I don't typically drink!) We ordered many appetizers: Dumplings 3/5 (pork filling was a little hard/mouth feel was off) Cloud shrimp 5/5* - the kimchi kewpie mayo aioli was so delicious, I used it on the bao bun too! Pork belly steamed buns 4/5 - came with cucumber slices, scallions, a grain mustard/mayo aioli which was not as good as the kimchi kewpie mayo aioli and the pork belly was very thinly sliced and a little tough Chicken kaarage 4/5 - flavorful small pieces of chicken with kewpie mayo aioli Then we tried three of their ramen: red miso, classic, traditional tonkatsu We frankly couldn't tell that much difference between the red miso and the classic in terms of the soup flavor. Only the tonkatsu tasted significantly different and I liked that one the best: 4/5 - largely because of the quality of the pork belly (see note on bao bun - similarly very thin slices and tough meat which is weird for pork belly). It's also hard to rate ramen in Baltimore well against ramen in Jtown in LA or Tokyo! But if you're in Baltimore and looking for good ramen and apps and that Ozeki Nigori sake, give Toki Underground a try.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place! The service was excellent! The place was so cool. It's small, but very nice! It does get very busy. Parking is street, but I think they have a parking lot. The food was very fresh, the wings were delicious! Really nice addition to Baltimore!

Yelp
In my opinion, the ambiance (indoors in particular) is one of the coolest and best parts about this place. Such a fun vibe! Outside is a little rougher although still cute - I say this because there were cans of bug spray on each table, which indicated to me that there are some creatures in the outside area. I sprayed up and was fine, but still. The food is good - as a gluten free gal, I just appreciate that there is an option for me. The broth was delicious! No point in talking about service, as you are charged 18% either way.

Yelp
Summary: Temper expectations Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad, just that I went in with much higher expectations. The chicken on our steamed bun appetizer was slightly overdone. The ramen and mazeman were decent. We actually liked the drinks but don't think the drinks by themselves would draw us back. Service was good but not exceptional. Note that they have a mandatory service charge 18%, which is fair, but wasn't communicated. Location wasn't the greatest and parking could be tricky although we lucked out. The ambiance was really good. Good options with the inside and patio seating. Not sure how that would fair on a really warm day. Prices weren't too crazy, but I think it was definitely more than what I though the food was worth.

Yelp
I think from social media and what I have seen from the DC location reviews I expected more. Like other reviews mention, it's not located in the best area. We ended up parking on a neighborhood street around the corner since the street parking directly in the front of the restaurant was filled when we arrived. We had a reservation for a Friday at 7:30pm. The place was pretty busy when we arrived, a few tables empty here and there. The interior and ambience is fantastic. We loved looking at the decor choices and enjoyed the open kitchen style since we sat at the bar. The food was ok, especially for the prices. Our server was very nice and checked in on us, but it was very slow to receive our food. The two of us dined for about 1.5hrs, mostly waiting for food. We got the karaage chicken appetizer, kimchi ramen, and pork belly mazemen. Overall we expected our serving sizes to be a bit bigger, with more protein served based on the prices. My boyfriend added pork belly to his meal for $6, however, the amount given was two small pieces. The ramen soup base was good, but thicker than we are used to. The mazemen sauce had good flavoring but they put too much sauce that I had a pool left in my bowl at the end. It was a little odd that the outside of our bowls were sticky and messy as well. The pork belly did have a nice crispy, charred crust. Chicken karaage tasted good and crispy, however, like the items before, we wish the serving size was a little larger. Note: there is an auto 18% gratuity added to all bills. It's noted at the bottom of their menu and our server pointed it out when we got the check which was appreciated.

Yelp
HECK YES Toki Underground has come to Baltimore! I've tried their DC spot a few times and was pumped to see them expanding, better yet so close to me. I've been stalking their socials to see the designs, ideas and opening dates. After a soft launch they opened up Yelp reservations and I was able to make a reservation very easily! We arrived at the newly opened restaurant with excitement! There is parking available but street parking was ample. When we arrived we were seated promptly. The space is upbeat, detailed, and purposeful. From the open kitchen to the skateboard moving above your head - you can tell a lot of thought has gone into this space. We sat at the counter and were greeted by several staff members. The service was impeccable! Friendly and very thoughtful. I've had a lot of ramen but still had questions, the server was super helpful and made recommendations I probably wouldn't have gone with. My favorite dish of the night was definitely the pan fried pork dumplings. You get six dumplings on top of a sauce that is very flavorful. Within the sauce there were notes of garlic and scallions with addition to fresh scallions on top. I went with the red miso ramen and my husband got the curry ramen. Both were excellent dishes with very flavorful noodles but I felt the red me so could have used a little more flavor or saltiness. I will try it again with the spice bomb added! I'm excited to keep discovering all the little design choices within the restaurant and try more menu items. Make sure to check at the bathroom, they are a lot of fun! I look forward to trying some of their drinks as I really enjoy them when I'm in the DC location. Welcome to Baltimore, we are excited to have you!

Yelp
Came here with a group of 7 on a Friday Evening. We had called a couple hours before to make a reservation, and were able to secure a table. The table was the round table in the corner and is only supposed to seat 6 people, but were able to fit 7 of us. Service was okay, sometimes felt slow and other times felt rushed, but was expected based off of how busy this place is. The inside seating area felt like a speakeasy, dimly lit and intimate. The first time I came to Toki Underground I got the Mazamen, but didn't enjoy it as much as I thought it would. I remember that my friend got the Dan-Dan noodles the last time we went and I enjoyed it more than the Mazamen. This time I ordered the Dan-Dan noodles and they were even better than I remembered. The sauce was rich and creamy and surprisingly still vegan. It definitely tasted like a rich seafood pasta and I enjoyed every single bite. The only complaint is that they serve it with whole roasted cashews, which I just ate first so I could enjoy the noodles. The pickle plate is also a fun item to order especially since it has an assortment of pickles. All the pickles were very tasty, however the Carrot pickles that we received that day were extremely hot. Prices for their food items are on par for what I expect for a ramen place that is so highly praised. Will definitely be back and would be willing to order the Dan-Dan noodles again as a takeout through doordash or another food delivery service! Pro-tip: They have a discount on their website for $25 off $75 or more if you sign up for a certain mailing list. Also don't forget to check in for yelp as they do have some freebies available!

Yelp
Having been to the one in dc numerous times, I was excited that they opened up a location in Baltimore! It's a little bit bigger than the dc location, which is great to serve more people. I had made a reservation even though we went for like a senior citizen dinner around 5:30, lol. We had no problem parking right out front at that time of day, and we were the only people in there when we arrived, but it quickly started to fill up on a Friday evening. We enjoyed the pan-fried pork gyoza, the pickle plate (which I was expecting pickles, but it was actually pickled things, which was a fun surprise!), I had the Dan Dan Noodles (no shrooms, add chicken), and hubs had the Brontosaurus bowl. Everything was delish! Wanted to try the dessert but we were too full. 1 cocktail for me, 2 for the hubs, with a bill totaling $100. Will return!

Yelp
Delicious wings that go fantastically w Sapporo Lager. Still thinking about it the next day, and that is a good sign. I also enjoyed the Classic Ramen, the best parts of which were the Chinese broccoli and runny egg. Thumbs up for friendly service from both the host and the waiter.

Yelp
Toki Underground is a creative ground for Japanese Izakaya-inspired ramen and foods. Located in Baltimore's Harwood neighborhood, Toki Underground develops a modern and slick space in an otherwise unsuspecting location. The ambiance is thoughtfully designed here to be intimate but casual enough to bring a small group for an outing. Upon arrival, staff are quick and eager to recommend and advise. The menu is curated to showcase Japanese classics plus adaptations from other Asian cultures. The karaage was crispy and juicy, paired with a lemon and aioli to cut through the subtle fats from frying. Definitely would recommend this appetizer. The pork belly bao on the other hand was divine. Though filling components were separated and had to assembled individually, each ingredient shined and delivered in taste and quality. The pork belly was one of the crispiest pork belly slices I have ever experienced. I would say this dish is a must have coming here. Finally, the Toki Classic Ramen is unique experience if not a satisfying meal by itself. The toppings of scallions, Chinese Broccoli, soft egg, pickled ginger, and nori were quality but not the main show. The broth and noodles were by far the most interesting features of the ramen (as should be). The broth upon initial contact was underwhelming to be frank. It was less rich than typical ramens and didn't really taste like anything special. However, given enough time to introduce all the components of the ramen together, you experience something truly new. The pork topping dissipates a rich savory flavor while the flora components introduce a subdued but present flavor of freshness. This ramen is innovative with its transformation over time and thoughtful additions of different toppings. Overall, a dish worth trying. Overall, Toki Underground is a breathe of fresh air to Baltimore's local food scene. Though I don't see this place being my go-to for ramen, I do encourage everyone to try this place and experience it themselves. Cheers!

Yelp
Baltimore just got another superior ramen spot. The space is large, but still feels intimate. The main dining room is open to the kitchen, so you can watch as the magic happens, and there are several counter seats that put you feet away from the action. We tried a variety of items from the menu, and they were all superb. The curry ramen was rich and had layers of flavor. The vegan ramen was so much more interesting than the usual vegan option. It was spicy, but had a mild sweet undertone from pickled beets, and also came with some sort of mushroom bomb that added depth and richness. For the ramen you also have the option to add an "endorphin bomb," which is a very tasty spice blend that will likely make you sweat, curse, and cry for your mother. The real star of the meal was the mushroom Dan Dan. I'm not entirely sure what made it so good, but it was silky, lush, and really just something special. The pork belly bun was a close second best, coming deconstructed so you could add the sauce, kimchi, and slaw to it in the ratio of your choice. Overall, I'm thrilled this place has opened and can't wait to go back. You're probably gonna want to make a reservation because this place is gonna be packed.

Yelp
I went to the Jinji chocolate Valentine's dinner with my partner and we were both thoroughly impressed. Both the quality of food and the portion sizing were extremely well worth the cost of the meal. I personally loved the additional menu items for the event, such as the Seared Duck Breast in chocolate and orange sauce, as well as the passionfruit drink "My Bleeding Heart". Every table was decorated with a candle and a vase of roses, creating an intimate atmosphere for the night. The wait staff was extremely attentive and friendly, from host to server. Will definitely try to attend their future events as well!

Yelp
A night out with the bestie. We popped into this corner spot to enjoy some ramen on a chilly night. We didn't have a reservation, noted for next time and suggested for future patrons. We ordered much more food than pictured, this was one of those "oh no I ate it before taking a picture" moments. We got the wings and vegan steamed dumplings. They were very good. Best part is that since we sat at the bar to eat we watched the guy who put all the garnishes on each plate. A little uncomfortable and possibly unsanitary to sit that close to the pass but there we were. Service was excellent, food came out fast and the energy and vibe of the location was so relaxing.
