Local longtimer serving sandwiches, burgers, dogs & more in a basic counter-serve setting.
"When you’re standing in line debating what to order and hear “doesn’t matter, this is the best Italian beef in Chicago” from the guy behind you, it’s a good sign. We’re happy to report that this mysterious stranger exaggerated only slightly. The perfectly spiced beef topped with sweet peppers is good enough on its own, even if you order it dry. Skip the giardiniera, Tony's doesn’t need it." - veda kilaru
"West Lawn favorite Tony’s makes what many locals think is the most exceptional Italian beef. The sandwich pairs thicker-than-normal slices of seasoned roast beef with giardiniera. Other menu highlights include burgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs, and chicken and steak sandwiches. Items are also sold in party sizes, so customers can order beef, sausage, and meatballs by the pound and have a picnic in Marquette Park." - Samantha Nelson, Eater Staff
"South Siders swear by Tony’s, where the thick-sliced beef pleases and the unique giardiniera contains garbanzo beans. Traditionalists will be happy with the standard beef sandwich but for an unbeatable combo, order it alongside Italian sausage. The restaurant also sells beef by the pound in party trays." - Eater Staff, Ashok Selvam
"When you’re standing in line debating on what to order and hear “doesn’t matter, this is the best Italian beef in Chicago” from the guy behind you, it’s a good sign. That’s what happened to us the first time we went to Tony's. And we’re happy to report that, while prone to hyperbole, he wasn’t a liar. The sandwich at Tony’s, a south side staple in West Lawn, has perfectly spiced beef topped with tender sweet peppers, and it’s good enough on its own, even if you order it dry. But skip the giardiniera, this sandwich doesn’t need it." - Veda Kilaru
