Great locally brewed beer and seltzer but dreadlocks is not very hospitable. Life is too short bro. Topa Topa Brewing is a local brewery that was founded in Ventura, California in 2015. It is situated near the Topa Topa mountains in Ojai and the coast of the Pacific Ocean. They emphasize quality, craftsmanship, and community spirit, and utilize local ingredients. They actively contribute to environmental causes as a member of 1% For The Planet.

Really lovely ambiance on the patio. Fortunately I came when it wasn’t too busy, it was a really peaceful setting in the outdoor patio. There was also indoor seating with a pool table that would have been a lot of fun for a group hangout. Beers were very unique, bartender was friendly. Definitely worth a stop.

Google
Great place to stop and try different beers. Julio was very friendly and kind. We grabbed food next store at Lamas and we sit here. The ambience is a plus.

Google
Excellent beer. Best IPAs in the county in my humble opinion. Run by nice pleasant people. When it is not packed to the brim with people and their pets, it is my favorite spot to hang out and have a beer. Cozy atmosphere. Almost everyone is dressed with a flannel shirt or with Patagonia gear, which makes you feel right at home if that is your crowd or make it seem very very homogeneous. Nice place to hang out, it is welcoming with warm tones and lighting. Again, BEER IS GOOD.

Google
Great beers. Nick is awesome behind the bar. Also, the Cali dough boyz are making some of the best pizza in the county.

Google
The layout of the taproom is great. Nice section indoors and 2 sections outdoors gives you great choice depending on the weather. Beware there are not TVs here but you can stream on their wifi to a device. Compare to other breweries, they do have a smaller selection of beers but they have a good selection of different styles. The beers shows off their skills. The staff were very friendly.

Best place for a cold beer in all of downtown. Topa Topa has it all. Great brews, great people and great atmosphere. Come for one or come for a few. It’s always a good time here. If you know, you know.

Google
Doing a 20 mile bike ride in lovely Ventura, 2nd stop was Topa Topa Tap Room #2. Very impressed with all of their finely crafted ales. My favorite was the single hop series IPA.

Yelp
After dinner at Rumfish, my friends and I walked over here--definitely beats searching for parking because it gets tight around this area! As always, the staff is super friendly, and there are plenty of seats inside for everyone to hang out. Pro tip: bring some layers if you're out at night; the coastal chill can sneak up on you! Great selection of beer and seltzer as usual, making it a perfect spot to wrap up the night.

Yelp
3.5 overall. I like Topa Topa. This location not sure much. The parking is too small and there's not a lot of parking around. I think I'll stick to the Colt location . The beer is good . Service is great !!! Nice group of people . Pool tables , tons of seating indoor and out but the parking kills me!

Yelp
Fun spot. Parking can be funky - limited on the right side of the building, and the left is a fenced-off vacant lot. Someone's missing an opportunity. Plenty of brews available. Any food is via a food truck or grill just off the patio. I ordered a single smash burger with cheese, grilled onions and pickles. Nice! All the people were great. First time here, and they guided me to a delicious IPA with some kick, called the Huckster. Found out about this place because of their comedy night. Every 2nd Tuesday of the month. James Frey leads and MCs the rotating lineup of 4-5 comics. Tonight's group included Erica Rhodes, who I adore. The placed was packed just before showtime. Really fun night. Looking forward to next month!

Yelp
Always a solid choice for a good pint of beer. Good beer selection on tap. Not the biggest fan of beer, but I can always find at least one that I enjoy. Decent seating options - love that they offer both indoor and outdoor choices. When the weather is nice, it's lovely to sit outside and enjoy their beer with friends. Staff haven't been the friendliest when I've been there, but they're efficient. Their outdoor seating is dog-friendly, which is always a plus. Parking can be a bit tough to find, so just be prepared to look when coming here. Overall, it's not my first choice, but it's a good choice when looking for a good pint of beer - whether solo or with friends.

Yelp
We went on a Saturday night and there was live music. It was a great atmosphere with not as many people as I thought. Friendly clean place with yummy bear! I felt like the prices were more on the expensive side compared to other local breweries.

Anastacia M.

Yelp
Delicious assortment of local beers. Great service all the bartenders are very pleasant and quick. Great place for a large gathering. If you're hungry there's a food truck in the parking lot and they let you bring the food inside to pair with your beers

Robyn H.

Yelp
I love it here These words are fillers bc I have nothing left to say I love it here

Yelp
Stopped by on a trip through Ventura. This was our first stop after a long drive and it was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a beer. We tried both their IPAs and both were really good. The girl working there was super friendly and helpful picking out which beers we should try. At first glance the place looks small but there is a huge room in the back with a pool table and a few arcade games and pinball which were fun!

Tara D.

Yelp
Great little brewery a short walking distance from the Ventura Amtrak station. I took the train up to see a friend who was at work and then stuck in LA traffic, so I killed time quite happily here. Great beers, small indoor area, large patio. My suitcase and I found a nice home on the patio, and I worked on my laptop for an hour or two while having some great beer. I recommend sampling a bunch and then picking a favorite! They frequently have a food truck in the parking lot, too!

Brian P.

Yelp
My first time ever at the Ventura spot. I'm biased here since this is my favorite beer in VC but this place was legit! Super spacious outdoor seating, back area has a pool table, some arcade games and a stage for some local entertainment and trivia nights. Again, great service, chill vibes and tasty beers. I got the HBC-638 since I was feeling like an IPA day and I was not disappointed. Wish I got to stay a little longer though. One drawback I did notice was just parking. They have extremely limited parking in the lot so you'll have to find some street parking. I've read some other reviewers say it wasn't too hard to find some street parking but I'm a princess and I prefer to park close. Of course this isn't Topa Topa's fault they got snubbed on the parking lot. Either come early or enjoy the nice walk to Topa Topa and enjoy some brews after getting irritated from finding parking (hypothetically speaking).

James S.

Yelp
Great staff and beers. Very relaxing vibe. I usually meet in Collective Wednesdays, when you get $2 off your 20 oz pours if you are a collective member.

Paul G.

Yelp
Why are there no mirrors in the bathrooms at this Topa Topa? That's crazy. Good beer though. 0/5 - no mirrors 5/5 - good beer (so it works out to a final score of 5 stars)

Gabriela R.

Yelp
First impression was that it was a small brewery. It looked a little tight when we walked in but to my surprise it's actually huge! They have a pool table and arcade games. And plenty, plenty of seating. The menu was more than clear, one of the best I've seen. It really gave you an idea of what you were getting. They had a pizza&empanadas truck right outside which was pretty cool. The only downfall was the service. No one seemed welcoming or friendly. Even as we spoke to the bartender and tried to make small talk it was not reciprocated. Maybe it's an off night for him, I wouldn't mind coming back and trying it a different time.

TY Y.

Yelp
Stopped in for happy hour at this Ventura brewery. Their patio tables were well "distanced" and pet friendly! Outdoor table service is available for ordering brews, and a local food truck (different culinary offering by days) was on-site for eats. Note they do provide (and charge) you for a $5 food voucher per table to encourage eating while enjoying their crafts. Cost for food and drink is approximately $10-18pp depending what you choose. I enjoyed this casual and relaxed experience and rate it a solid 3.5. Craft brew variety is plenty to satisfy all beer fans. We came after a holiday weekend so they had run out of a few specialty crafts, but we still found good options for IPA's, ales, stouts and other lighter beers. Tonight's truck was Mexican themed from Game Over catering. We enjoyed a sampling of tasty Burrito bowls filled with Pollo and Carne Asada; we also tried their Shrimp tacos and shared a plate of Nachos. The bowls were our favorite and their salsas were good and spicy! Enjoy this local brewery when you need to get out with friends or take a break, have a cold one and a bite to eat to support a local biz!! Cheers!

Amy K.

Yelp
What a nice place to hang out with friends in Ventura. There are many outdoor tables. The staff is awesome. I got a flight of hard seltzer, Casey's kolsch, flatlands saison, spectro. They were all good. I really liked the crisp refreshing hard seltzer. Hard seltzer 10/10 Casey's kolsch 9/10 Flatlands saison 9.5/10 Spectro 10/10 Parking lot is small so try to carpool or come at odd hours.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Great service Super helpful on picking out some great beer to try Got the beer flight My favorite was the Dos Topas, then Light Hike, Silently out of the Sea & Harvest Swoon in that order Tons of places to sit: bar, tables in the bar area, outside on dog friendly patio & in the back with pool table, stage & tables to play board games too!!!! Super awesome place to chill, relax, visit & have some refreshing beer! The food truck tonight was Passion Empanada! The traditional beef empanada was out of this world!!!

Stephanie P.

Yelp
I was here only briefly, but the employee that helped us was very nice, and he made a great suggestion for drinks. It's a nice spot to relax and sit outside with peers while enjoying a beer. I would like to come back again. He also mentioned that they have certain activities on certain nights, so I think that's worth considering if you are looking for a simple get-together with friends or coworkers. It's a nice little spot to visit if you are looking for things to do within that community.

Melissa D.

Yelp
Favorite beer in Ventura County hands down. Always some great options. Huge space for hanging out. Pool table and some arcade games inside. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Very chill vibes all around. Always street parking nearby and often a food truck in the parking lot. Definitely recommend for any occasion.

Yelp
Wow! Topa Topa was a great beer drinking experience we had three different beers from them and all of them were unique and tasted great! Major kudos to the New Zealand style beers that we had as this is just something you don't see hardly at all in the states! The New Zealand beers also used hops from the North Island and the South Island of New Zealand giving both beers and unique flavor profile separate from each other. Both of these beers were Hazy IPA's and despite the different hops they still had all the traits of a good IPA. The names totally fit for the two beers, Nobo and Sobo. We also had another really enjoyable beer from Topa Topa and that was also an IPA but with coffee also as a main ingredient and that one was called the Howler. Definitely another unique and memorable beer to try as well! It was a very fun experience with these beers and I would love to try more beer from Topa Topa!

Beth S.

Yelp
We started with a flight of 4 taster sized beers. Out of those we tasted, we each chose a pint. Husband had the Brown, I chose the Hazy. We played a game of "Uno", and we shot a game of pool which I almost WON! I pretty much never win my husband in pool. For 2 pints and a 4 sample flight with tip was roughly $43. It was very pricey in my opinion. The beer pints were $8 & $9, but the flight was a staggering $18! That's a lot for roughly 20 ounces of tap beer. Jeepers. It is very open air and has a cute patio. But I could have bought more than a case of beer for that price. Also not as cold as I like.

Bryan N.

Yelp
I over this place! The vibes are great and it's way bigger than it looks with very friendly service and great beer!

Michael M.

Yelp
Nice place with good beer selection. They need a better variety of music, bands like 80's.

Jim E.

Yelp
Great little brewery with big local support. Exceptional IPAs and great staff to serve you. We liked the food truck they had for Taco Tuesday. Decent size patio as well. Could have done without the political BLM sign in window above patio as I personally believe All Lives Matter. Still great place to check out in North Ventura.

Dianne E.

Yelp
Customer service is so disappointing. First time at this brewery and we came to have a going away party for my husband with his coworkers. Our server was so rude and condescending. She told us there were 20 rotating drafts so we looked at the website menu after scanning our qr code and there was only about 5-7 listed online. I asked her what the others were and she said look online. I said I am looking online at your menu and there's only a few listed. She said there's too many to name. Great. That's helpful. The food and the place itself is nice though. Lots of seating areas and the food truck is delicious. I got the carne nachos which can definitely be shared. My husband got the carne asada tacos which he really liked also. It's a shame our group was so put off by the server, it really brought down the mood for the party.

Kaytlin K.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the beer and atmosphere here! They had a food truck which was great, and the line inside for beer went super fast. The beer tenders were kind, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. Super clean bathrooms and fun arcade area inside. I liked the beer so much I took a few growlers home!

Alik W.

Yelp
Very creative flavors, more so than the average craft brewery. I was particularly taken by Moo Bae, a milk stout with ube (purple yam). It's actually got a purple head in the glass. Really worth a stop.

Mary Joy D.

Yelp
One of our faves! Its our first time in this brewery and certainly love it! The bartenders are friendly and helpful and the vibe is pretty chill. The beers of course are tasty and refreshing. I love pale ales and the Level Line certainly did not disaapoint!

John F.

Yelp
One 'all gender' bathroom not enough given the number of people there Saturday night.

R W.

Yelp
Great beer, great service. The only thing that brings it down to 4 stars is the size of this location, and also parking is a hassle.

Alicia G.

Yelp
Chill spot with good beer selection and space to park bikes right outside towards back corner.

Clare S.

Yelp
Great beer and chill vibe. Staff was very friendly. We will for sure be returning soon.

Juanita D.

Yelp
The next time you happen to be in Ventura, definitely stop by Topa Topa Brewing Co. They offer a SMALL, but friendly tasting room with an outdoor patio. We ordered a flight, which will allow you to taste their variety of brews. We sat outside with our pup and enjoyed the sunshine and breeze from the ocean (they have bar & bench seating) The staff is beyond friendly and helpful when deciding what brews to order. They do share a small parking lot with a surf shop - if it's full, just park across the street. Friendly, good brews, outdoor seating, inexpensive, conveniently located off the 101 - what more could you ask for? One thing to note: this isn't the best venue for a large group.

Zhelle H.

Yelp
One of the best brewery, for sure!!! Staff was very friendly as well. Beer selections was delicious as well and Im happy that cousin maine lobster truck was there too.

Tina D.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that I'm a legit beer snob. I don't drink Budweiser, Coors or the other mediocre, mega-brewery offerings. Topa Topa has legitimately great beer. Everything I have tried, I have loved. I live in LA and I drive up to Ventura just to have their beer (and take some home). They have a balanced selection of beer (i.e., not all IPAs). Staff is friendly and helpful. Great place to hang out for a while.

Norma V.

Yelp
7/25/2020 Saturday morning in Ventura, the fog is lifting and the sun is beginning to peek through. We ventured over to our favorite watering hole on Thompson Blvd. With the current County changes back and forth, they have been closed, opened and closed again for serving brews at the tap room. Now with the collaboration with Tony's Pizzaria (a few doors down) and other food trucks, they are able to open again for dine out and serving their good brews. We are "hop-heads", so we ordered their very good IPA "Chief Peak" as usual. Other brews for suggestion are the Level Line Pale Ale for those who want just a refreshing beer not too hoppy or Tux Nitro Milk Stout for those who want a sweeter dessert chocolate tasting pint. They also have hard seltzer for you non-beer drinkers. We love the intimate and friendly establishment. The staff is amazing and feel like good old "friends" that would come over to our backyard cookouts. They are dog friendly!!! Lots of pooches from all walks of the canine world visit. Since it was a Saturday, the food of the day was Tony's Pizzaria. My husband and I enjoy their pizza because it is the "good old days" California/New York style pizza. No frivolous toppings, just good old familiar toppings like pepperoni, sausage, even Anchovies!!. Their Hawaiian Pizza is DELICIOUS!! You can order by the slice or by the pie! They also have salads for you vegs out there! It was a nice afternoon with good brews and pizza and good "friends". So come by and drink a pint and support your local brewery. Wear a Mask and help slow the Spread!

Maggie R.

Yelp
I love Topa Topa! Every time we're in the Ventura area, we're at the tap room! I'm from the San Fernando Valley area and it's rare to find any of this beer down this far south! My favorite it Chief Peak, though the other night I had a very tasty dark beer Howler! OMG! It was very yummy!

Rosalicia S.

Yelp
THE service was great . This was mine and my husband's first time at this location. We will definitely be coming back

Rosie O.

Yelp
Always great beer. Try Topa Topa if you are in town and a craft beer lover. Nice brewery with great outdoor seating and food truck available most days in parking lot. Friendly staff with great sense of humor. A nice refreshing stop. Although I do prefer the tasting rooms in Santa Barbara and Ojai ( they are a little more open and relaxing, Ventura tends to be over crowded).

Tommy C.

Yelp
Great beers and friendly service. Covid friendly outdoor dining with food truck! Dog friendly too

Daisy H.

Yelp
Must stop every time we drive up or down the 101. Their beer is always reliably delicious and fresh. Even before covid, we loved their outdoor patio setup. They are right off the highway which makes it easily accessible. Parking can be tricky if the lot is full, but you can usually find parking across the road-- it is a busy road, so be careful! You are required to have a food item on your tab during covid time, so come ready to have a light bite from the revolving food trucks. The food truck calendar is on their site.

Chris J.

Yelp
I love visiting topa, it's always a nice time. The brews are great except that they didn't have the new one that I wanted to try: the way through is back. I settled with one of their IPLs. It was good. I wanted to get some tacos too but we never were offered our food voucher, although I think we paid for it....

Cassie C.

Yelp
I've heard about Topa Topa for a long time but this past weekend was my first time finally getting around to coming here! I have to say that I am not a huge IPA fan and at least half of their beers (at least when I visited) are IPAs. The beer I had was good, though. The location here is nice, small outside area and open inside area. Staff was nice and it wasn't too crowded here. They also have different food trucks come by as they themselves don't offer any food. There are also food options within walking distance not too far away (like Tony's pizza - yum!) One of the good breweries in the area.

Ron S.

Yelp
The indoor / outdoor arrangement is unique. If it's raining there's nowhere to hide, but I've never seen another space that pulls off the setting so well. The location is not ideal, and it could have really sucked here. Kudos to the design genius. Oh, the beer is great too. Very distinct flavors. Today I see grapefruit, clove, lychee pine(!?), coconut and macadamia nut. Outstanding.

Morgen H.

Yelp
Ok wow.... This place is practically home! Mia and Phil both were exceptional today serving up tasty cold beers and setting the mood with some groovy tunes. The atmosphere is super chill, a place where you can relax, drink a beer, and decompress from a long day or a long week. Can't recommend Topa Thompson enough! Chief Peak forever and for always.

Lianne K.

Yelp
Dear Hubby is into trying craft breweries, supporting local brewers. We attempted to visit this one twice a few weekends ago. The first time, there was zero parking, and the adjacent food truck wasn't offering anything we wanted. We adjourned to a local sandwich shop, then went back a second time. We did snag a parking spot, then walked in. Immediately, we felt uncomfortable, like everyone else was at a private party that we were crashing. The overall space, inside and on the patio, is not very large, so it may be hard to find seating. That lack of place to sit, and cliquish vibe sent us back out the door as quickly as we'd come in. Might try it another time, but it wasn't what we were looking for on the Saturday we stopped by.

Todd H.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years, and love the service the options in the atmosphere more than any other local brewery. The chief peak is my favorite local pour by far, and have filled many a growler over the years. Looking for a place to stop for some smiles and good friends and a tasty paint? This is your place. And if you're local, and you're not yet a member of the collective, you may want to become part of the crew and get bigger pours and some great swag!

David K.

Yelp
Among the best beer I've had in California. Lots of great choices, too many to name. A large step above other breweries.

Tricia D.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere and great food and beers on tap. Definitely coming back to have a pint

Ivan J.

Yelp
Topa Topa has a very friendly vibe - from the staff and the patrons. I've been to Topa Topa several times and from all the beers I've tried, my favorite is Motueka (Single Hop IPA). My favorite food truck is Mom & Pops Tacos.
