"Originally from New York, this small ramen chain has two local outposts in Somerville’s Assembly Row, and South Bay Center in Dorchester, as well as one sister restaurant Yakitori Totto, a restaurant specializing in grilled chicken. While much of the Boston ramen scene focuses on pork bone-based tonkotsu broths, it’s all about the chicken at Totto; there are three variations of a chicken paitan (white, cloudy broth) ramen on the menu, as well as a vegetarian option." - Erika Adams, Valerie Li Stack, Eater Staff

"A newcomer to Dorchester’s South Bay, Totto Ramen opened in late December 2019, joining its Allston and Somerville siblings — all part of a small New York-based chain. While other restaurants might sneak meat into their broth as a flavor booster, Totto’s vegetable ramen boasts a soup base of seaweed and shiitake mushroom. Add mild-flavored kikurage mushrooms to the seasonal vegetable offering for a textural interplay with the noodles." - Nathan Tavares

"Totto isn’t the best ramen in the city, but it’ll do the trick when you get that ramen craving that hits you roughly four times a week between November and March. The noodles are thin, the broth is chicken-based, and the spicy paitan with sesame oil is always a good call. There’s a small menu of decent appetizers too, but you’re coming to this casual spot with anime murals on the wall for the noodles." - Dan Secatore

Google
The service was great and the employees are respectful and helpful. Giving four stars overall because the ramen was just okay. The broth was good and the noodles were good, but other than that everything else was mid. We got beer, plum wine, a strawberry soda - all good. The pork belly bun was very heavy on the pork and a LOT of mayo inside a bun with a small piece of iceberg lettuce. We tried the paitan ramen, vegetable ramen, and the miso ramen. The raw white diced onion on top of all three bowls of ramen we tried was interesting. Every bite tasted heavily of raw onion. I would highly recommend ordering without the onion on top.

Google
Small place not too bad. I had the chicken it was good. I also had the xl pork ramen not bad just the broth had no flavor. Can't say I'll do it again 😞

We went to AMC and decided to stop there because it was a nice looking spot on the outside, and we were craving for ramen, and what a great choice it was. We started with the takoyaki which was amazing, and you could feel it melt on the mouth, but keeping the taste. Then we went to the ramens, I had the signature one (forgot the name) and my wife had the curry one, both were delicious. Plenty of meat and noodles for a standard size, and I saw some people ordering the "mega" which is a lot. The place is just a few seats and the bar, fast service and good prices. I'm definitely coming back a few more times. Fuyo!!

Google
Totto Ramen is always a must have if I even pass by South Bay. I found it by chance and have been coming back for years. I've eatenca lot of ramen and Totto Ramen has always and consistently set the bar so high for what is good Ramen. I have been back many times and the food has always been so rich and delicious and after a bowl I sit back and think about how good of a choice it was. Appetizers: I will pretty much always start with the Pork Gyoza, non-negotiable. But the Charsiu Mayo Don is a really delicious choice too, good amount of rice and delicious, tender pork, a great choice too for those who aren't a fan of Ramen. Ramen: You can't go wrong with any of the choices for Ramen, and if you know what you like get it. I will always go for the Curry Ramen with extra Ajitama (boiled, marinated egg) and am so very satisfied by the end. I will change it up with a Spicy Miso, Miso Ramen or just the classic Paitan Ramen. BUT. If you want the best bowl and you have a big appetite, get the Mega Ramen. It's just 3 servings of the Paitan Ramen with extra crispy chicken. Thank you Totto Ramen for always being my favorite part of Boston!

Google
It's OK. Meat needs more seasoning. I found everything to be quite bland. Tried the pork bun. I was expecting a bbq pork bun, which it wasn't. To me it just tasted like lettuce and mayo even though it comes with a massive piece of meat more akin to a bao. I also tried the spicy Ramen. This again seemed not to be seasoned properly. Meat was bland. The spicy is just a crazy amount of pepper (I'm assuming white). Generally that amount of pepper is for numbing not spicy. So it tastes like you're eating pepper instead of chillis. Overall the food is fine with the need to adjust how everything is seasoned.

Google
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Totto Ramen, and it was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped inside, the cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made me feel right at home. The menu offered a fantastic variety of ramen options, and I decided to try their signature dish. The moment I took my first slurp, I knew I had discovered ramen heaven! The broth was rich, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and the toppings added a burst of flavor. It was a truly transcendent culinary experience. I highly recommend Totto Ramen to all ramen enthusiasts out there. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! Very big portions

Google
Do not get the spicy ramen!! It’s literally just black pepper and water :( We came into town from Michigan and thought this place may be good based on reviews but the ramen was horrible. I’m grateful we into ordered one to make sure we’d like it because it was so bad. I would definitely choose any food place in this location over this place!

Google
By far the worst ramen I’ve ever had. The noodles were under cooked and everything just tasted off. Not super expensive but not cheap either. Would recommend going somewhere else.

Yelp
Soup is delicious. Service is quick. We ordered take out. Like everything else today - it's seems unusually expensive. For broth, noodles, and a couple of small slices of pork it's $20+ .... if you add extra anything (noodles etc) plan on spending between $25-$30 for a bowl of SOUP.... it's insane?!! What are the margins on that??!

Samantha P.

Yelp
Very clean and quiet atmosphere for some warm ramen! Located in a beautiful plaza with lots of shopping around- parking is hard to find on the street though during the holidays, so you'll have to park in the garage! Pork belly was tender with the broth and extremely tasty, however the ramen wasn't cooked enough even after sitting in the hot broth and the pulled pork was a bit tastleless. It was an okay ramen, but nothing too special. Our waiter was very quick and attentive though!

Thanh L.

Yelp
We came at night. We got Spicy Paitana curry ramen. The curry ramen was watery and underwhelming. The Char siu was good. The spicy Paitana was really spicy. The noodles were thin. Overall, probably won't come back . Service was fine. It was really dark inside

Josh H.

Yelp
I've been to a bunch of places and tried all types of ramen noodles, but this place right here has it on lock! Freshly made noodles with freshly ingredients and most importantly, the broth is what makes this Rahman place delicious they also have other food items on the menu, which are all good so you can't go wrong. So if in the Boston area they have three locations and it's worth the drive.

Jimmy N.

Yelp
I'll be completely honest, I was very skeptical about this place because it was so close to my apartment. It only took me two years to try it. I'm glad we did lol now that winter is here, ramen and hotpot is the best meals to enjoy for dinner. We decided to come here last night around 5-6pm. Luckily when we got there, there was a few tables available. 10 mins went by, there was a wait building up lol we were greeted, seated, and fed very promptly. The service and atmosphere was chill. I love the vibes there. FOOD - fried squid is a must!!! 10/10 for $11, the portion was good for two people. The spicy Mayo that came along for the dipping, was so good... the squid was perfectly fried. - we both got the spicy ramen. She added a boiled egg and spicy bamboo shoots. I added corn and spicy bamboo shoots. For $20, the portion was so much. I almost didn't finish it. The broth was rich and spicy. Be warned! Spice level was probably 6-7/10 for normal people. It was perfect for me. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
A good location base on the surrounding stores in the area. First impression on the ramen (Spicy Paitan) that I had, the Char-siu meat was thicker than your usual ramen sized meat portion with good tenderness and flavor 3 starts for that. The taste of THE BROTH did not excite me as much besides the fact that my order came out in less than 5 mins. It was garlicky than spicy and lacked a sense of flavor richness. I would consider it as one of those ramen broth that you don't sip all the way to the bottom of the bowl. If you wanted a ramen and made fast, this would be the place. I don't think there was any thought to making the soup which they only added 2 types of condiments 1. Bean Sprouts 2. Scallion. The rest you have to purchase a la carte. I would suggest to include a sense of authenticity by adding some of the usual garnish to make it look appealing than the inexpensive garnish. I would rate this as 3/5 only for the meat and quick made to deliver ramen if you're hungry and need a quick fix.

Yelp
I am so excited to have found this place! I was first interested by the beautiful mural on the building. The fun and funky atmosphere continued to the inside, though that miracle is still a work in progress. Our pork bun appetizer was delicious. I had never had one before but the fluffiness of the bun + melt in your mouth mess of the pork has me constantly craving more. Ramen was flavorful and came in a really large portion. I only wish the menu had more options because I know those creations would be delicious as well. Our server was lovely, attentive, and speedy! Will definitely be back.

Hieu V.

Yelp
Decent bowls of ramen. Flavorful and plentiful of meats/ topping. Ample amounts of noodles. However, was too oily on my opinion.

Indira H.

Yelp
Conveniently located in South Bay. Always love to get the spicy ramen. Food comes out fast and staff is nice. Usually doesn't get too busy

Kem P.

Yelp
It's officially soup season in New England! What better way to satisfy that warm and comforting feeling? One word. Ramen! I came to this location for lunch and it was busy but the service was on point! I ordered my usual which is the Spicy Paitan with pork! Oooouuui, how delicious was this ramen! The noodle was cooked al dente, the spicy level was wicked spicy but had a more peppery note to it and the pork was tender! I parked at the South Bay Center, which made it pretty convenient to just get a quick bowl of noodles.

Johnny K.

Yelp
Service was good, atmosphere was fine, ramen was severely under salted and lacking in flavor, although the portions were large.

Mark T.

Yelp
If I give them points for anything, they are not stingy regarding proteins. At least now I can have my pudding if you subscribe to Pink Floyd! Alas, the meat wasn't *that* enjoyable, and I didn't stay for pudding. I ordered a Char-Siu Pork Bun and the Paitan Ramen. The pork bun was a bland, monotonous, and uninspired disaster. This had a too-thick chunk of boiled meat, mayonnaise, and a single piece of lettuce half the size of a playing card that didn't make itself known. No other vegetables, no other sauce, nothing. The only flavor notes from the meat were a little salt with some weak acid from the mayo. It was tender, but tenderness is irrelevant without flavor. Without anything else, the mayo and meat were not a winning combination. Word to the wise: have the picture resemble what will be served on the plate. The pic had a BBQ'ed, appropriately thin piece of pork with BBQ sauce and a fair amount of lettuce. When it came to the Paitan ramen, this attempted to offer some redemption but failed. For the broth, I felt its flavors and textures were somewhat muted. Some weak savory notes, a little salt, and done. It lacked spices, herbs, or something else that would punch up the flavor to something I would delight in grabbing the bowl and slurping out. I asked for some Sriracha, and while they didn't have that, they offered me some spicy sesame oil (paste-like consistency). A little spice makes a WORLD of difference. The Paitan also did not skimp on the meat, and the ramen's char-siu had some savory, grilled flavor. Not an explosion of yum, and not entirely melt-in-your-mouth stuff, but passable. The shredded pork was fine, though it seemed to be added in clumps instead of being spread evenly and didn't add anything to the dish. The noodles were fine; no complaints there. As for the scallions/green onions, I could take them or leave them. Full disclosure: I am generally not a fan of green onions. Still, I feel they didn't add enough overall texture or freshness. Where I will absolutely award them points is the service. Kat(?), who took care of us, was terrific. She was kind, attentive, personable, and had a great sense of humor.

Nicole R.

Yelp
Some of the best ramen broth around! Highly recommend! I always get the spicy paitan and add an egg because it's the best part!

Bob L.

Yelp
Great place to grab some food if you're in the area. Items ordered (as of 8/2021). - Char Siu Pork Bun - Very tender and fatty piece of pork belly! Great flavor and I would definitely recommend this. - Takoyaki - Good takoyaki. I can't say if this is the best I've ever had but if you have a craving for it you won't be disappointed (assuming you're not coming here straight from Japan...). - Mega Ramen - Extra large portion of the Paitan ramen. They aren't kidding when they say "Mega"! I was able to finish it but had one of those "I probably shouldn't have done that" feelings. Broth could use a bit more flavor but the noodles were cooked perfectly and the pork had a lot of tenderness and flavor to it. Unless you are starving I'd recommend getting the normal sized Paitan ramen!

Bhargavi R.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place if you're craving a hearty ramen. I got the curry ramen and it was rich and flavorful. The egg was marinated and was perfectly garlicky and soft and the meat was done well! Good portion size and quick service and we were able to be seated quickly. It is a small place but people were in and out quickly!

Susan T.

Yelp
This place was really not that good. Don't waste your money. The ramens were lacking flavor. The sandwiches were also lacking flavor. Service was ok. Our server never came back to check on us after he brought our food.

Melanie R.

Yelp
I have been coming here since the day they opened. I use to work in the area and would love coming here on my break. Especially during the winter time. The staff is super attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. I would recommend trying their fried chicken ramen if you decide to stop by. It's delicious and I would also recommend trying out their fried calamari.

John C.

Yelp
Takoyaki had maybe 2 or 3 small pieces of octopus, and I mean extremely small, screwed up the ramen order had to get that remade. Ramen was alright saw them searing already cooked pork belly, everything on the menu is about 4-6 dollars to expensive for what you get. Service was quality tho, friend waitress.

Wenhua W.

Yelp
Service is good, but the food is a kind of below my expectation. From what l tasted, the soup base is the water used to boil noodles, or at least it's mixed with the broth. If you cook noodles at home often enough, you'll know that you can't use the water used to boil the noodles directly for the broth. You need to change the water. Because of this, I don't think it is professional enough.

Sandro Augusto R.

Yelp
Boston's finest, genuine flavor. allow yourself this experience . I am from Brazil and this is my favorite japonese's food.

Executive A.

Yelp
I'd been looking forward to this place. Total underwhelmed. Chicken in the ramen was dried out ( over cooked ) the soup has no flavor. Too expensive. Disappointing lunch.

CC C.

Yelp
I prefer to review after 3 visits unless the first really wows me. I'm not exactly sure when this place went in, but I was hella excited because I love ramen. To be fair, I love food in general, but having a ramen place so close to where I live/visit is an awesome addition. My first visit, I ordered a ramen to go. Mistake. Everything was in separate bowls to make for easy transport home, but not having everything blended made it difficult to enjoy it. The broth tasted bland, nothing mixed well together, and I was even disappointed by the meat in the dish. Second visit was far better. I got the mega ramen and it made a huge difference eating in. The flavors blended so much better and the meat was so delicious. Would get this again honestly because it was huge and I was stuffed after. Price isn't outside what I'd pay, but may make others hesitate. So my conclusion that eating in has, so far, proven to be a better choice for this restaurant. Maybe i could try take away with a different blend? Probably not going to chance it

Ansia F.

Yelp
10/10 hands down!! What took me so long to come here?? I have lived near this restaurant for the past 7 months and have always past by without a second glance. My boyfriend and I were sick of always eating the same thing and we just wanted something to hold us over until dinner. The staff was friendly and the place was empty. Once I put in my order I sat down and within 2 minutes they were handing me my bag to go (very surprised but I'm not complaining!). I won't lie..when I first opened the bag I was disappointed because it looked like it wouldn't be filling but I was totally wrong. I ordered the curry raman for my boyfriend and I and we both fell in love! I love that the broth is in a separate container so you can pour in as little or as much as you'd like. This is our first time ordering ramen and it won't be our last!

Tina H.

Yelp
The broth for the Spicy Paitan ramen with char siu was super flavorful and the noodles were perfectly al dente. The broth wasn't spicy but had a strong black peppery(?) kick. The cuts of char siu were pretty thick, but not too fatty. The shredded scallions and bean sprouts added a nice texture and crunch. Staff was friendly and service was very quick.

Nicole L.

Yelp
Is this the best ramen I've ever had? No. But is this the spot to go to when you're looking for a hearty bowl of comforting noodles on a grey wintery day? Absolutely. I ordered the Spicy Paitan Ramen with Pork, and and soon found myself happily slurping on some noodles. The broth itself is pleasantly rich and slow simmered, mild-medium spicy with strong notes of garlic. I like to build myself the perfect bite with the chewy noodle swirled in the spoon with small bits of slightly charred pork, thin-sliced scallion, and crunchy bean sprout nestled in it. You then dip the spoon so every thing is in a nice warm bath of broth. Yummy.

David Y.

Yelp
Maybe my standards are too high, but this ramen place was dogwater. The broth test failed immediately, there wasn't a bit of flavor at all in the broth. It was like warm food coloring with noodles, and this was their mega ramen. Their miso ramen was just boiled water with onions. Pork was very hard to chew but was fine. Their fried chicken bun was decent as well as their takoyaki. Ramen lovers should save their money and go elsewhere. Overall, I'm gonna pretend I never ate here.

David W.

Yelp
Great service - large portions - good food! Went in for lunch on a stormy day and it hit the spot.

Chrissy Y.

Yelp
Delicious ramen at Totto Ramen! We ordered the Paitan ($16), Spicy Paitan ($17) and Mega ramen ($21) and karaage/fried chicken ($12) and all of them were fantastic! The restaurant is very cute with a few tables and seating at the bar as well. We went on a Saturday at 3 PM and there were tons of open tables. The service was efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back to Totto Ramen!

Shaquille A.

Yelp
This place is nice for sit in and take out, they have a very covid friendly set up. Reasonable prices and the location is perfect. They also have a good number of suggestions/additions on their menu. The ramen was good quality and I would come here again!

Mr S.

Yelp
We got the original paitan and shrimp ramen. Both not good, and under seasoned. The shrimp ramen tastes so bad, just like water with a little shrimp flavor. Theres def no love in these bowls. I would come back for the beer they have hitachino. Thats about it. Dont waste your $ and time

Jakyung K.

Yelp
The fried squid is a must!!! It's probably one of the best I've tried so far! It was so fresh and crispy! Miso ramen was very flavorful. The noodles were perfectly cooked!

Sharon T.

Yelp
Awesome ramen! We always come here for at least one night for dinner while In Boston!

Robin L.

Yelp
Wow! Came here on a whim the other night and luckily there wasn't a wait. First time trying this ramen spot and it's right in my neighborhood. The meal was just so good that night. The fried squid was so flavorful. I've tried a few fried squid dishes at some places and this was the best so far. The pictures don't do justice. It was well seasoned and crispy. The Mayo dipping sauce is a must. For the ramen, such a good portion. Usually places say spicy and I'm disappointed but this had a kick. I still don't consider it too spicy but it very well flavored. I think addicting the spicy bamboo shoots gave it a boost. I would definitely come back during a cold night this winter for another bowl.

Grace S.

Yelp
Food was wonderful, decided to try this place out since back home is hard to find really good authentic ramen and a hearty broth, even had a pork bun that had the biggest slab or pork i've ever seen in a bun. Atmosphere is nice, you either have a long bar top table or regular tables, we decided to eat at the bar stool tables since it's overlooking the kitchen and you get to see how your food is made; probably my favorite part of the whole experience. Will come back again

Betty Y.

Yelp
Are used to live in Allston and would go to that location all the time But when I moved it became a hassle. And then they open this location. The quality is the same. My favorite is the spicy Ramen. This place is freaking awesome. I have been to Ramen places in Japan town in LA and I'd have to say this place is better.

Vicki L.

Yelp
I got the spicy paitan ramen, and it came with a huge portion. The chashu was very tender, and I highly recommend getting a soft boiled egg with your noodle. The noodle was not that spicy so definitely ask for their chili oil if you want a kick.

Savannah D.

Yelp
The ramen was okay not much flavor. Seaweed salad was good. Service was good and waiter was very attentive.

Landon R.

Yelp
You can't go wrong ordering here. I always like to get chicken buns. Curry ramen is delicious, huge portions and quick to come out. Their service is always friendly and fast but Lindsey is definitely my favorite. Yum!

Merlyn R.

Yelp
This is a great location if you want a generous sized bowl of Ramen for an affordable price. While the quality wouldn't be that of an upscale Japanese restaurant, this ramen is nonetheless delicious and rich. They have a large variety of ramen bowls that would suite all taste pallets. In addition, the staff was great! If you're looking for a quick bowl of ramen on a weekday, Totto Ramen has you covered!

Somaly K.

Yelp
Not a huge ramen fan but went with my family to Totto and the food was pretty good. This location served wine and I think beer. Fairly priced. Free parking in the garage and easy to get to. If I ever have a Raman craving, I'd visit again.

Roberto O.

Yelp
Totto Ramen was a spontaneous visit for the wife and I but we have no regrets at all. From the moment we walked in, we received friendly and prompt service. Even the cook behind the counter welcomed us in and made us feel at home. As for the food, I ordered the Spicy Paitan and I made sure to finish the whole bowl. I also added the Pork Char Sui and it was so good I had to get extra! I would be more than willing to come back and try the other varieties of soup/ramen they have the offer.

Liz C.

Yelp
Totto is a solid high 3/low 4! Seating is typically fast, but I would call ahead due to COVID limitations. The broth is really hearty and yummy, especially the spicy paitan! It wasn't that spicy, so if you don't have a high spice tolerance its still enjoyable, I'd definitely recommend! As others have said, it's not the best ramen but it's pretty bang for your buck and comes out super fast. The waitstaff is very friendly too & it's at a very convenient location :)

Colinda C.

Yelp
Yummy! This place doesn't go long on atmosphere but it was so tasty and the staff super friendly. Casual but filling and worthwhile.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Really liked the flavor of the broth and all the components. I tried the signature ramen with soft boiled egg. Absolutely delicious! The service was wonderful too. I would recommend this to anyone who likes ramen or soups. The location is also great because it is in a safe area with other cute little eateries and movie theater.

Malica S.

Yelp
I came in for dinner around 5:30. It was pretty busy already and all the tables were filled so we decided to sit at the bar. If we didn't sit at the bar, I think we probably would've waited awhile to be seated. For appetizers I ordered the fried squid & takoyaki balls. I liked the fried squid more. The takoyaki was just a bit too mushy on the inside (maybe it could've been cooked a little longer?) but it was still good to me! For the ramen I ordered the Spicy Paitan Ramen with pork. The noodles were made perfectly, al dente. The pork was tender and I really liked how it wasn't dry. The broth was spicy but I did have to add in a little bit of salt and some of the Shichimi Togarashi (the Japanese chilli pepper) that was provided on the side just to make it a little more flavorful to my liking. I'd also say the broth was a little too thick. I'm a sucker for slurping broths but I couldn't really do that for this soup. Boston doesn't have many ramen joints so I'm glad this has finally been checked off my list of places to try out!

Jami P.

Yelp
I have been coming to this place for years. I love all the Toto locations. They are always friendly and their arrive is fast. My favorite is the spicy paitan is my absolute favorite. It has the plenty of spice to it and it lets you know it! Their fried chicken is also really great, it's also so crispy on the outside and the chicken is still nice and tender. Their ramen is really good for the price and it's nothing fancy but it's just good quick ramen.

Kelly L.

Yelp
Great service and great food! I came here with my family and everything was good! Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a kid friendly place that has really good food. It's a small place but the service is quick so you're in and out. I had tried the location in Allston and wasn't happy about it but loved it here. I think this place is a great addition to be the area :).

Michelle C.

Yelp
This is one of the worse ramen places I've ever been to. Walked in and was asked to sit at the bar for the two of us. There were empty tables, but didn't offer us to sit. Once we sat down, we looked at the menu and we decided what to order. But we waited 15 mins and the waiter didn't come over to us and I ended up needed to flag her down. We ordered two ramens, fried gyoza and two char Su bun. Ramen- the noodles were over cooked so the texture is extremely soft. Broth was tasteless and plain that didn't have that strong flavorful taste. Out of all the ramen places I've been to, I've always finished the bowl of noodle. But this time I just couldn't continue to eat it. If you've been to an authentic ramen restaurant, then just skip this place. Appetizers - the fried gyoza was nothing like fried gyoza. I can make it better at home. The char Su bun was a joke. The meat was so thick that the bun was falling apart when I tried to eat it. It came with a piece of lettuce and Mayo. And this is also one of the first time I've eaten a pork that wasn't torched. It doesn't taste anything close to a real one. Services- we were in the middle of eating and suddenly the host came over and asked us to move over to one seat near the corner. We were pissed of the food already and now been asked to move on the middle of our meal. We just asked for the bill and left.

Gregory H.

Yelp
Somebody lied to this place several times and told them that she was fly, hot and sexy and beautiful and she's nothing like that, she's nothing of the sort.

R L.

Yelp
Another example when a chain restaurant that doesn't add up to the original location Some lowlights - broth underwhelming - soup not hot enough to mix the miso paste Some highlights - great service - nice new location 3/5
