Dinner is something I am going go take seriously around New Orleans. I was told to come here for brunch, but I instead came here for dinner, and honestly, I enjoyed it just the same as I would have for a brunch.
The staff is super friendly and accommodating, but I really felt like Audrey Griswold from European Vacation. Food just kept coming, almost every second, from almost every angle. It is no wonder I later felt slightly nauseated a few hours after I left. It is not because of the taste of the food, trust me.
First, you get complementary pork cracklings. I never even had a pork rind before, so trying this was fun. I later found out it is fried pork fat, so maybe that explains the feeling I had later.
I then got a gumbo. Tasty meats, but I got a cup, so it is easy to inhale. Good thing I got a cup, because it is a simple tease to get you through what is to come.
For my entree I got a Taste of Trenasse. It contains Louisiana Crawfish Pie, Pan Fried Redfish Meunière, Shrimp & Grits (yes, I just copied and pasted from their online menu).
The crawfish pie is superb. Essentially an etufee stuffed in pie crust, it tastes great. Good thing I got a sample size.
The redfish is good too. Eat everything around it (green beans and potatoes), because it makes the fish taste better. Apparently so does getting a nice wine, but hey, cut me some slack, I got a long way to go before I cut the cord here.
The shrimp and grits work well here too. Creamy grits, good sized prawns, an andouille sausage worthy to be put in with this combo to turn it into a tasty trio. I deliberately punned that. It also comes with corn and one piece of fried alligator. That is where I think this restaurant was trying to kill me. It was a lot of insanity all in a short time.
A great first way to end a first day. More to come!
