I visited Trieu Chau years ago, and it was great and much cheaper than it is now. However, it was never a regular spot for me, as it's a bit out of my way. I decided to revisit the restaurant yesterday (6/19/2025), and the food is still delicious. The prices have increased significantly since my last visit, though. What used to cost under $10 for a bowl of Hu Tieu (Chao Chow) is now at least $14 or more!
The staff here is incredibly efficient, which is why orders are taken promptly and food arrives quickly. One of my favorite things about dining in is the unlimited pickled garlic and jalapeños at the table. I love adding these to my bowl of noodles.
We went all out and ordered #21, which is Chao Chow with Duck and egg noodles ($17). Duck is considered a premium ingredient, so it comes at a higher price. We prefer it dry, with the soup served on the side. The flavors were great together, but the duck was a bit dry. Honestly, I don't think it's worth $17.
I also ordered #23, Chao Chow Satay with big rice noodles ($14.25). This was my first time trying the satay, and while I really liked the flavor, it was a bit too sweet for my taste. It's also made with beef only, unlike the other Chao Chows, which come with seafood.
Overall, both Chao Chows had plenty of noodles and meat. I couldn't even finish the satay one on my own, so the portion sizes are still generous, just like before.
I also appreciate that this place opens early at 7 a.m., so I can avoid the lunch crowd. It gets packed later in the day, and parking can be a bit tight during peak hours.
