I'll eat anything that Anthony Zappola makes, so I was excited to check out his new spot in Ohio City, marking his triumphant return to the west side since leaving the Ohio city Galley years ago. Trust me when I tell you that Tripi does not disappoint.
This is a casual spot where the food is bonkers-level good. It's got a sort of decades-ago vibe about it in a good way, in the way that characters from The Sopranos used to sit outside an Italian deli all day every day. It's also enormous, with lots of seating and space for parties and events, too. You could easily have a birthday or anniversary party here (and Zappola wants you to! It's rentable!)
The chicken Parmesan sandwich is simple but perfectly done -- and hearty, too, with leftovers for lunch tomorrow. The biggest, baddest sandwich on the menu is the Papa Tony, four kinds of meat, cheese, lettuce and Italian dressing on fresh-baked crusty bread. And leave room for dessert, which is incredible -- cannoli, cookies, little pies in cups (get the cheesecake!).
Honestly, everything here is just very straightforwardly delicious. It's clear that it's a labor of love for its owner, and it's a delight to enjoy his food.
