How can you come to island without having one?
Yes, there's the staple in Haleiwa. Yes, there's that corner store place off of McCully. And yes, that place across the parking lot from Rainbow.
A couple years ago, new kid showed up in town, coming from another island. And it's just across the street from that malasada place.
That's what prompted me to stop here on a Tuesday early afternoon after shopping at Waikele. Walking in, there were a few ladies enjoying their treats at tables while a couple were at the order counter. This gave me time to study the menu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=120&select=P823RipxLw8HWuFEZh3PXA) which is pretty extensive. Bring overwhelmed by the # of choices, I decided to try one of their suggested combinations, the Sunset Beach, small (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=120&select=9SKOSJrcvH2X_NHpVH8xtw), comprised of Passion, Mango, Orange, and Guava. After ordering, I sat at a table in the middle of the store and watched two gals put it together. It was interesting to see the shelves lined with syrup bottles across the counter (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=312&select=5sX62uACr5Br6zBrJ7FmjA). A few minutes later, I was called to the counter to get my icy treat. I should have been more observant in reading the flavors while I took bites to enjoy each of the flavors. Being warm and thirsty, I shoveled this down mainly since my travel companion chose to wait for me in the car, not wanting to make him wait. I enjoyed this ice and the variety of flavors. The mango and guava tastes were less distinguishable.
The two young gals were efficient and professional in putting my treat together. The cashier promptly told me when it was ready and left it on the counter for me. I look forward to trying this again, likely other flavors after doing my menu homework before walking in.
