Uma's

Our meal after the beach at Uma’s stopped me dead in my tracks. I couldn’t believe such a delicious meal was tucked all the way in Rockaway. Hands down one of the best meals I have had in a long time. We ordered practically all of the popular items: Plov, Manti, Borscht, Samsa, Korean carrot salad, and the lamb kebab. We shared everything family style and nothing missed. The balance of crunch with savory dishes drowned in sauce was perfect. The servers were very friendly and attentive the whole time and it was all reasonably priced for how much food we got. Highly recommend to anyone heading out to the beach and I’d even argue it warrants a trip out of the city in and of itself.

Great to find this Uzbekistán restaurant in Rockaway. We got some plates to share so we could all try different things, I absolutely recommend the dumpligs as well as the kebab Fillet mignon and the lamb one. Both delicious. The ice cream is interesting too. If you’re gonna take the buckwheat make sure you pair to something creamy, or it’s very dry. Also the turkey rice was not bad but I felt it was a bit dry. Value was great, I feel the price was really reasonable, and the atmosphere is nice. I’ll be back to try more plates!

Really amazing place. It's a shame it's so far out for me, because otherwise, it'd be a real frequent. The place itself is nicely furnished, and has a decent amount of seating. It does get crowded, but only because the food is so good. The bathroom is nice and clean, and the service was nice. No complaints. The food was amazing. The Korean carrot salad was stunning, and the samsa was a crowd favorite in my group. I got a lagman soup which was thoroughly enjoyable, and my group partners got manti and pelmeni, which were really great. The price was reasonable for the amount, and it's more filling than it seems. Truly an amazing place, and will come back whenever I'm done beaching around.

Very delicious food, incredible prices. Almost a fine dining experience but not including the crazy prices. Kimchi salad is a must try, if you’re in the neighborhood this is your place to eat!!

Food was delish! We got the uma salad, lentil soup and beef and lamb manti. It was so homey and satisfying. Will definitely come back next time I’m in the rockaways.

A very cute and hip uzbekistan restaurant that offers decently sized dishes. I love the moch Kichiri because it was packed with veggies and left me very full. The wait for your food to arrive can be very long and many of their dishes run out at night. Despite that, the waitstaff was very helpful and accommodating.

We were hungry and found ourselves in front of Uma's restaurant. Everything I tried was delicious. Uma's house salad, a leek filled something, salmon skewer, and roast potatoes. All super delicious. Our friends have 2 small children that ate everything on their plates. Shocking as they only want McDonald's! Their parents both had lamb, and mashed potatoes. Their plates were licked clean. I can't wait to go back.

Delicious homemade food. Portions are fair, I was full through half of a plate but had to finish it was soo good. Also cozy atmosphere, nice staff and music. Loved it

Wow. Amazing food. I had the lunch special which was only $12.50! I had a small portion of lamb bone broth and a hearty serving of meat manti which are basically giant dumplings. Yum. I would have ordered the borscht but I was too full. I have to come back with more people and share a few things. What a great menu. The server was really friendly and the vibes are high. Definitely go!

I'd rate Uma's four and a half stars. Restaurants like Uma's are one of my favorites parts about New York. It's a small, not busy gem at a reasonable price with a family feel. I think Uma's is characterized as a Uzbeki restaurant, but there are influences from around Eastern Europe and Central Asia. We started with the Green Bichaki. It's a pastry filled with veggies and onions that my dad would unquestionably call a pirozok. It's served with a piping hot filling that wise diners would wait to consume; for us less patient eaters, we quickly cobble it up hopping to avoid burning the roofs of our mouths. Along with the Bichaki, came the spicy eggplant spread with scallion pancakes. I'd bet $50 that this dish came to fruition as combined leftovers. Regardless of its origin story, the dish is as comfy as any leftover smorgasbord that I've found in my own kitchen while wearing loungewear. I'd classify the spicy eggplant as a stew moreso than a spread. It's savory and earth which just the right amount of greasiness. I've never met a scallion pancake that I didn't like making the two a great match. Next came the lamb bone broth with noodles. The taste of this dish was very nostalgic of my grandmother's cooking. Not sure if it was the herbs or the meat, but something transcended taste and flipped a long forgotten neuron back on. Soon after came the manti. We had the meat filled ones which came with supremely generous dollop of sour cream. Reminded me of when I cook with sour cream and I tell my wife that I only use one spoonful when I actually used one spoon motion to scoop out the entire container. Nutritious? I don't know, I'm not a doctor. Delicious? Absolutely! For dessert, we shared the brownies with raspberry jam and walnuts which must have been inspired by jelly rings. Brownies were fudgy and guaranteed to satisfy your sweet tooth. Service was fairly quick. They had four beers on draft including an option from Barrier and a Ukrainian lager. There was one gender neutral restroom which was spacious and handicap accessible.

My friend and I shared the uma's salad and plov. I've never had Uzbeki food and enjoyed my introduction to the cuisine. The beef was very tender and I didn't feel it was dry at all. Taking another look at the menu now, I wish that we had tried more dishes like the manti. When I went, they only accepted cash/venmo/zelle, so be prepared for possibly not accepting any credit cards.

So good! This is a gem in the rockaways! I am so glad I came in looking at the reviews because they had live music during this night and I really enjoyed all the food we received. We got the Silk Road salad and the samsa for appetizers and the salad was very fresh and tasty alongside the lamb samsa which was surprisingly like a lamb meat pie with good flavor. Really enjoyed the sesame pastry crust and the sauce. For entree we split squash and meat manti which was so ginormous and I really enjoyed the flavors. The squash was fresh tasting and really yummy I totally recommend this to vegetarians because I tried a lot of vegetarian dumplings and this one is one of the best. The meat one is good and the dumpling skin was thick and had a crepe like consistency I LOVE. The sesame halva ice cream at the end was SUUUPER sweet but I still really enjoyed it because it had the chalky texture of halva which I love but it's cold and it's ice cream! I didn't know this could exist. I'm definitely coming back!

Man, this manti though! I tried Uzbek dumplings (manti) for the first time at Uma's in Rockaway Beach, NYC and I never realized what I had been missing my entire life! I ordered my manti (which are homemade steam dumplings filled with butternut squash, topped with onion sauce, dill, cilantro, and yogurt sauce) and my friend ordered his with meat. We both loved them! I enjoyed the soft dumpling texture and how flavorful it was. It was a solid portion size too! My friend finished his and I still had some leftover. So depending on your appetite, you may or may not have some leftover. Either way, you'll definitely be wanting to come back for more! The service was great, too. Added bonus: It's close to the beach, which makes it the perfect stop either before or after a day of fun in the sun (depending on the time of year that you go)!

Uma's food is Delicious! And the staff is very friendly. Our family loves going there!

Stopped in for lunch on a rainy Friday afternoon. Haven't been here for a long while; it remains great. Friendly service. Ordered a samsa to split; served with a bit of savory sauce: utterly delicious flaky pastry stuffed with meat and Uzbek spices; also had plov, a huge mound of rice with carrots, chickpeas and raisins (had leftovers I had later). Right on Rockaway Beach Boulevard, street parking, a surfing vibe. Gets crowded on weekends, as does the entire area. This is a gem. Good value, great food, cold beer. Highly recommended.

Soooooooooo Came in after a polar plunge and they made a fresh pot of coffee while I waited for my scallion pancake and dumplings. Too good!

The food here is fantastic and the service is decent. The atmosphere is a little hit or miss but it's never BAD, just a little strange a couple times I was here. One time the management let a very aggressive bootleg movie seller inside to harass everyone for far too long (more than 15 minutes). For the most part this place is great. I recommend the scallion pancakes to start and the beef dumplings with any of their fantastic desserts to finish.

Umas is a small but a beautifully decorated, comfortable atmosphere. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. The drinks are very good as well!! Close to home so I'm very lucky!!

Uma's was the star of a beautiful beach day. First time having central asian food. The dumplings and borscht were standouts. Also the brownie and ice cream come much bigger than expected and wonderful treats to share.

A tiny in rockaway. It's unpretentious and the food tastes homemade. The dumplings are wonderful, the salad is fresh and a great addition to the meal. The chicken schnitzel is crispy and delicious. The only thing I would pass on is the potatoes that were flavorless and the texture was lacking it didn't add much to the meal. I would definitely go back. I look forward to trying their specials.

Waited for an hour and 45 minutes just to get a crappy chicken shish kebab. Waiter obviously wasn't listening to order. Cook forgot about kebab for an hour. Friend waited an hour for a decent salmon kebab as well. Highly recommended if you have time to kill and low standards.

This has been one of my favorite restaurants for a minute now. I Typically order a couple samsa's and a lagman soup. If you're lucky to walk by when there is a fish special available, get it. The fresh salmon kabob is amazing .. when it's available!

Traditional Uzbeki food!! The rice was a bit firm but I believe that is the traditional way it is served. Thr dumplings were amzing and accompanied with an amazing array of garnishes

We eat at uma's all the time and usually love it but today the meat in the plov was so dry I couldn't even keep it in my mouth (thats what she said !). It was inedible. Very disappointed.

Covid has wreaked havoc on this once great restaurant Just picked up food because the City has closed indoor seating. Got food home, found the container with moshkichri crushed Tasted the Indian Marsala, the pancake is tough to chew. Like cardboard. The moshkichri tastes more like mush cat food. Gee what the hell happened? Not to mention the price $36!!!! Meantime where is Conrad? Dancing on the beach in Puerto Rico???

We were in the area and happened upon this place. I first thought it was spelled out as UM's as the A wasn't lit up outside, but it is UMA'S instead. Anyways, I looked outside of their window and saw many reviews posted up like for NY times and Michelin guide. I had no idea this place was so highly rated. We walked inside and didn't know what to expect. The waitress was really nice and had us sit anywhere. She explained the menu and I asked for recommendations. She gave us things that were in her opinion popular or good dishes to try out. My friend asked what time the kitchen closes and we were informed that it closes at 9pm so we had just enough time to order. Ordered the squash bichaki which was unlike anything I've ever had. It was quite tasteful and it was recommended to eat with yogurt sauce. It is a baked party filled with butternut squash and onions. For the entree I ordered the plov which had really tender beef on top of rice, carrots, chick peas, dried barberry, and spices. I asked for hot sauce and it gave it just enough of a kick and spice for the dish. My friend ordered the Manti with squash, but they didn't have anymore. So, the waitress suggested the Pelmani. I sampled one of the dumplings and it was yummy. If I was in the area, I would go back again and order other dishes on the menu or one of the specials on the board.

Really lovely spot! I'm a resident for 12yrs and my first time visiting Umas I was shocked about how delicious each dish was in this little place. Ordered the scallion pancakes and uma salad which paired perfectly together. The pancakes by themselves are a little dry but the salad adds just the right amount of moister when combined. For entrees we got the grilled lamp chops (the best I've ever eaten!), Indian chicken masala (on the spicy side but flavorful), and filet mignon kebab with potatoes. 10/10 place to visit if you never had and it's a plus they have great music. Will be back!

1/ Plov - Man, I am still craving the Plov from Uma's. The beef was so tender and so delicious with the carrots, rice, and raisins. This was the best thing I had in the Rockaway's. Portions were also huge. 2/ Uma's Salad - Light and refreshing, this salad was a great contrast to all the other heavy food we were eating. The tomatoes and eggplant blended well together with the feta cheese. 3/ Borscht - All my friends universally loved the Borscht though I didn't have any. They all gave 5/5 or 4/5. 4/ Manti with Meat - My partner loved this, I did not. It was just loads of meat that didn't taste very seasoned. Definitely will skip this next time. Ambiance & service - We went around noon on a weekday. The place was dark with little natural lighting, though I'm sure it's more intimate at night. Service was fast.

This was my go to spot for great Eastern European food, but it became extremely unaffordable now. There's no way I'm going to continue to pay $14 for one stick of chicken kebab with 3 small pieces of bread and a few slices of onions. (I understand that we're going through inflation, but that same cost can get me one kebab with rice, salad, and a warm pita at another place.) The yogurt sauce that comes with the pelmeni has become very salty for the past few months. I like the Uma's salad, but feta cheese is naturally salty. Did they have to put 1/2 pound of the shavings in there? I thought that was a bit crazy. Unfortunately, I won't be returning because the prices here have become ridiculous.

This is the best reason to surf at Rockaway beach - Yes - the food you get to eat here after you work up an appetite! OMG - so lucky to get the UMA Salad and the dumplings. Can't wait to go back!

I was pleased to see such a different type of restaurant in Rockaway. I enjoyed the food experience. I will definitely return.

Hit and miss recently.Really good service, dumplings, kebabs until the last time in late spring. Wait staff unfriendly in a I-don't-care way. Food overall ok. Chocolate brownie dessert was rock hard. Maybe it was an off day. Wine choices are limited. On the positive side, Uma's is one of the few places you can get authentic Uzbek dishes in the area so that's a treat.

After visiting Uma's Puerto Rico, I had to eat at Uma's Rockaway! The service was friendly and fast. Cold beer And food was delish! Deff recommend! Prices are perfect, portions are a bit small, so if u are hungry order your own entree.

ive walked past Umas so much, enticed by the smell, but could never stop, so happy i finally made it here while visiting rockaway. i will gladly be back! Great service and easy pick up for food during COVID. My friends and i walked up and ordered food. Got drinks to go - speaking of which, there are plenty of eastern european beers from russia and poland. might not be the best beer, but its great to have a drink to pair up with the native dishes from the motherland. that being said, all 3 of us loved our dishes. id like to state, there are more veggie friendly dishes here than i was originally expecting. for myself, i had the Squash Bichaki. loved this so much! a decent sized bun - with some poppy seads on the outside, the bun itself is nicely baked. the squash inside mimics a curry. i am a big fan of spices and flavor, so this was such a nice spice. it wasnt spicey per se, but deff had a party of flavors. it was baked well, i could easily have eaten another. i also grabbed an order of the scallion pancakes. dont let yourself confuse it with its chinese version. umas is more potatoe focused, theyre thicker, with some scallions and other seasonings. comes with sour cream on the side. i was beyond full.

Best food ever !!! the plov is great and so is the rice and potatoes. Would recommend this place to anyone. Unique foods not found anywhere else.

The squash manti was full of flavor! The toppings on the mantis were rich and the sour cream sauce made a great creamy pairing. I couldn't go wrong with the bichaki because it was flaky and filled with spinach. This was a great lunch!

It was 91 degrees in the city, and we decided to stroll the boardwalk in Rockaway Beach just to find out it was only 66 degrees there. Oh well, let's look for something to eat then. We found Uma's and decided to try Uzbek food for the first time. We got greeted and seated by a bartender/waitress who's very friendly and accommodating. Uma's offers great craft beers on tap. We got Golden Monkey and Rare Vos to start along with Lamb Bone Broth with two dumplings. Our waitress recommended Lagman (Hand spun noodles with beef with vegetables; $11), Pelmeni (12 mini Russian style ground beef dumplings topped with onion sauce, herbs, and yogurt sauce; $12) and Salmon Shish Kabob ($14) to share. Both soups tasted very good. Salmon Kabob is a must try; it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We finished our meal with Halva Ice Cream and Brownies ($7). We were all full and satisfied. This place can get very crowded during summer, so check it out now while you can.

Passed by their beach-side location, which was too cold to stay at. Randomly found this location while looking for an indoors place to eat; several tables with an intimate setting for a relaxed meal. Was able to get the last two-person table in the corner (nudged cozily in front of the door). Small yet specialized menu with interesting meals I've never had. Settled on the Manti With Meat ($10) and a glass of wine ($9). Portions here are amazingly large; four giant dumplings encasing a fistful of meat each. Rich flavor in the meatballs, though the casing comes off easily as you take each bite. Wine is served in a small tumbler, but paired well with the meal. Service here started off well, but I believe they forgot our order at some point. Took about an hour for the food to arrive after questioning the staff about the wait. However, unlike a recent experience I had with forgotten orders, the staff here comped our drinks and apologized repeatedly. Appreciate that kind of care for customers, so would return if in the area again (possibly at their beachside locale).

I'm from Tashkent, so Uzbek food is what I know. You'd never guess this place carried Uzbek cuisine, but it does and the food is good! I'd give it 4 stars, as I did have better, but not much better. If you ask for tea, you'll get it in real Pahta. Samsa and Manti are very close to original and doing better is going to be hard and require a lot more attention and wait time. Plov I wasn't impressed with. The food you are getting is being warmed up, not cooked from scratch, and that's really why it's a four rather than a five star experience. The place is very noisy also serving as a beer bar to locals. This being a beach neighborhood that shouldn't surprise. Still it was so noisy that I had to cancel it out with Boise NC to enjoy my food. Also, if you are looking for authentic decor and closer to Uzbekistan experience, look at places in Forest Hill. Otherwise, I'd recommend for a quick bite of home like Uzbek food.

Nice place for some Russian and Eastern Europe style dishes. A little over the top on the cilantro- but I'm fortunately a cilantro fan. Convenient hours where a lot of places are closing earlier. Casual atmosphere and good service.

A few outdoor tables on the sidewalk (as of October), nice service, pretty solid food. Enjoyed the squash manti.

Can't believe it took me a year of living in rockaway to finally try this place. The food is to die for! The flavor in every dish is amazing! Highly recommend the umas salad and the butternut squash dumplings!

To say that I think that I've had the best meal of 2015 at Uma's may be a little over-the-top, but I think it's true! Wouldn't expect this from a little chill place out in the Rockaways, but from app to dessert, everything was On Point! Drove around at 8pm on a Wed. after visiting Fort Tilden, looking for a place that was STILL open in this sleepy NYC Beach Town & Uma's was packed except for 2 tables. (Avoided the empty Italian place next door) We were seated right away & the boyfriend made friends with the singer/guitarist playing that night. There's a small bar that fits 4-5 people & about 10-12 tables, mixed with groups, couples, and a few kids. For apps we ordered the Veg Soup of the Day $8 (mushroom barley) & Lagman beef Noodle Soup $9. The mushroom soup was thick, hearty, filled with mushroom chunks- so fresh & tasty. The Lagman was mind blowing! The beef was fall apart tender, slow-cooked, noodles were FRESH and hand-pulled, lots of vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, string beans, parsnips, a sprinkle of dill, a teeny jar of red pepper paste). Actually everything had sprinkles of dill. The Lagman was enough to eat as a meal on it's own. But gladly- we kept eating. Main was the Plov (Lamb on Rice $14) & the Pelmani Dumplings $12. The Lamb was yet again fall-apart slow-cooked. The rice had little flavored bursts of gooseberry & golden raisins. The Pelmani were boiled (kind of wonton-like) beef-filled dumplings. You could tell that they were just previously wrapped & dropped in water, followed with a light sour cream, chili oil, & fresh dill- right before arriving at our table. It was too large to finish, but I had a great lunch the next day. Of Course we had to have Dessert: Halva Ice Cream. Amazeballs. Homemade sesame flavored ice cream with bits of Halva shreds & black sesame on top. We split one dish $4. Should ice cream taste healthy? Service was super nice & chill. Wait for food was a little slow, but that's because Someone's Mom is cooking it Back there! Saw a Russian dark-haired woman wiping her face at the end of the night, besides a few sous chefs. Really nice to see & eat all the Silk Road-influenced food. Uma's is a great neighborhood spot & I'll be back again, hopefully sooner than next Summer. And unfortunately the phone died, so no pictures, but it was a bit dark in there. AND I think we were enjoying our food too much anyway.

Salads are the best here: carrot, silk road, uma's. Pumpkin fried manti are also amazing. Perfect for dinner after a long hot day at the beach. There are two outside tables.

You've probably seen those reviews that are too bad to be true. Not only was the hotel furniture outdated, but the front desk clerk was rude, the breakfast contained only stale bagels, there were bedbugs, there were drug deals in the parking lot, and the wi-fi was sluggish. During my long wait for food at Uma's, I had time to contemplate the ethics of giving a one-star review knowing that the cuisine had to be better than the dreary service. Uma's refuses to give solo diners a table, which would have been more tolerable if the bar where they are relegated was more spacious and wasn't adorned with a used water glass. The refusal to take my order, or even make eye contact, got my walkout clock stirring. Just before I escaped to the Q-53 bus, I was finally acknowledged. The bad news was they were out of plov, so I ordered manti. A couple minutes later they told me they were out of that also. The repeated recommendation for the filet mignon kabab made me wonder if they had nothing else in stock. I got the lagman soup and the manti. The soup was action-packed, with beef, noodles and vegetables providing an impressive ratio of food-to-liquid. And in the ground lamb-filled manti, even the onions were attention-grabbing. Uma's has some virtues but it also has the kind of aloofness usually associated with later stages of the gentrification cycle.

Had a delicious dinner at Uma's, an Uzbek restaurant in Rockaway. I must first say, though, that our waitress was in her own little world. She brought us BOTH the wrong drinks (both my wine and my boyfriend's beer were incorrect) and seemed completely confused when I notified her of this. It was strange. Luckily our food order was correct. The borscht was excellent although I would have been even happier if it was cold! The hot temperature was a little much on this summer day but the taste was fantastic, especially with the cool sour cream. Filled with beets, carrots and beef chunks, it really was tasty. Our other appetizer, the samsa, was a pastry filled with meat and potato. Also very nice. The manti filled with meat was our favorite dish of the night. These were four ginormous dumplings served with yogurt sauce. The plov (rice with vegetables and meat) was unfortunately quite dry but also has good flavor. Overall, we enjoyed the experience even with the spotty service.

I've thought about this restaurant often since I went. Absolutely delicious, unforgettable food and atmosphere. Eating here helped me feel closer to my roots if even just for a few hours. Loved it, will definitely be back again!

I've had my fair share of Russian food and I have to say for a place surrounded by beach goers & originality this place caught my eye. I was telling my friend I wanted a Shish Kebab not really considering what kind, but all ll I knew was that I wanted one. The one thing that threw me off was the sign for Uma's and what was written underneath it. No where located on Uma's menu do they offer anything remotely close to Asian food. Maybe it was a typo. Maybe they took over the place. I'm not quite sure. It was bizarre yet I still placed my order anyway. When you're hungry you make hasty decisions, at least I do. My Chicken Shish Kebab came with seasoned rice, a side salad consisting of cucumbers, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. It was decent but needed additional seasoning. A little bit of minced garlic marinated over the chicken ain't never hurt nobody! I also bought a cup of their natural Lemon Mint Green Tea mixed with Apple and Plum juice. It was refreshing on a beautiful summery day.

WoW Uzbek food at the randomest place, Rockaway Beach. I'm a big fan of Uzbek food since a few of my friends introduced me to this awesome food a while back. So seeing this place and all of the authentic menu items, including dessert, brought a smile to my face. I got the Manti With Meat and Borscht. The Borscht was good but I think missing a spice or two. The Manti were delicious and made just right. I also had one of the Ukrainian beers they had on tap. Wish I had room for some dessert like Chak Chak but was already full. They serve beer and wine only and have table and bar seating.

Really glad that we got to try Uma's on our day trip to Rockaway Beach. Very unique Russian/Uzbek food in a trendy space. The restaurant is decorated with surf stuff. We had a bottle of rosé, dumplings and beef with rice and chickpeas. Everything was delicious. I would highly recommend that you visit.

Starving after a nearly 2 hour long subway ride to visit Rockaway beach, my friends and choose Uma's for a lunchtime feast. Expectations were high and only heightened by the Michelin guide recommended sign displayed in the window, yet quickly dashed as we entered and were greeted by buzzing flies. I ordered the Manti with meat, which comes as four large meat dumplings served with a yogurt sauce. Unfortunately, the filling was dry and tasteless, leaving much to be desired. On the other hand, it was a good portion size for $10 and left me feelings full for hours after (which is no easy feat). The halva ice cream was the highlight of the meal - deliciously creamy, packed with sesame flavor, and big enough for three to share. Service was mediocre and a little slow, which was somewhat baffling given that there were only two other parties.

I'm a huge admirer of the Eastern European food but this place doesn't represent Uzbek cuisine at all! The Plov is greasy, bland, there are zero original spices, chewy meat, did I mention greasy? For the price they charge they should hire an actual Uzbeki Chef who knows how to make authentic Plov. Borsht? Nowhere near of the actual Borsht that East Europeans make. Very disappointed as I'd like to support local businesses but this one is quite a let down. Basically if I never had Uzbeki or Russian food before maybe I would've loved Uma's but being Russian I can definitely tell apart the real deal. If you want to try the closest to authentic Russian or Uzbeki cuisine you are better off going to Brighton Beach. My suggestion to the business - get a Chef who actually knows Uzbeki cuisine and it's spices, tone down on greasiness, make a real Borsht instead of the watered down version. Thanks for reading!

Take the Rockaway Ferry from NYC and visit Uma's. Have the Carrot and Labne Salad or the Borscht to start. Follow up with Manti or Kebabs or one of their amazing specials.

Love this restaurant! It's a strange combination of surfer bar and down home Uzbeki food - one of those "only in NY" type of places. I've visited a few times, and had a blast every time. I came once with a big group, and the vegan in the party had a great meal! There are lots of veggie options, and things where you can cheese on the side. The beef stroganoff special on my most recent visit was probably the best version of that dish I've ever had. It was spiked with anise, and served over light fluffy mashed potatoes. Incredible. Squash manti are a must have, as well as any soup. The Lagman is really, really good, and a mushroom barley I tried was delicious. Scallion pancakes are incredible! Finally, they have a great selection of beer and wine, and a fun laid back atmosphere. Always great music, and surf videos on in the background. Love this place, always a pleasure to visit! Pro-tip: take a seat at the bar if it's super busy. The people there are cool, and you can watch the surf videos!

Great meal after the beach. Loved that we could walk into this restaurant at 6:30 PM on a summer Sunday and actually get a table. Both the beef dumplings and squash dumplings were great. Each dish is 4 huge dumplings for $12 - a very nice value, especially given the quality. Coconut lentil soup and scallion pancake were also very good. Good service and clean bathroom. Definitely will return.

This review is unrelated to the food: my friend and I had lunch at Uma's. Asked to split the check. By accident, the waitress ran my cc for the entire amount. No big deal. She claimed to have cancelled the first charge and charged my card a second time. Unfortunately, my credit card was charged twice. I phoned the restaurant. I emailed the owner. Several attempts were made but no money was reimbursed. I gave up but now I am not so sure that it was a mistake as no effort was made to reimburse although. I would like to give them the benefit of doubt, but not sure.
