Japanese Bakery Uncle Tetsu Opens in Austin - Eater Austin

"International Japanese bakery chain Uncle Tetsu opened its first Austin location this month. It’s found in the Highland neighborhood at 6929 Airport Boulevard, Suite 151 as of July 22. The bakery is known particularly for its Japanese cheesecakes — a lighter and fluffier cheesecake iteration with a fun wobble effect, made with sponge cake and cream cheese. The current menu is a limited one. There’s the original version, plus other flavors: coffee, strawberry, and ube. Then there are also burnt Basque cheesecakes, a much creamier version that originated in Spain. There’s an original flavor and an ube one. Lastly, there are cheesecake biscotti cookies. In the future, when Uncle Tetsu Austin expands its menu, look out for Japanese cheesecakes in matcha, chocolate, and Oreo flavors; and a variety of Hokkaido, Japan-style cheese tarts. Uncle Tetsu founder Tetsushi Mizokami started the company in 1985 in Hakata, Japan. Now it’s expanded worldwide, including America, Canada, China, Indonesia, Australia, and much more. Uncle Tetsu’s Austin hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Delivery orders placed online are also available. The bakery is found in the Cresent Plaza, which includes 99 Ranch Market, Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, 85 Degree Bakery, Sazan Ramen, BB.Q Chicken, and K BBQ." - Nadia Chaudhury

My favorite place for cheese cake, Soft not too much sweet , delicious and you keep stamp for free. Shop was clean, My recommend I like to order original and before eat I add some strawberry jam so yummy. 😋

Google
Uncle Tetsu’s cheesecake is light and fluffy, but a bit overrated for the price. It’s a nice treat if you’re nearby, but not something I’d go out of my way for. The store is clean and service is quick, but overall, it didn’t quite live up to the hype.

Google
The cheese tarts at Uncle Tetsu’s are to die for. They are heavenly creations that I could eat every day of my life. The crust is buttery and flaky and melts in your mouth. The filling is rich and creamy but still light enough that it doesn’t weigh you down. Angels must have made these tarts, divine beings that have never known sadness.

Google
Absolutely in love with their strawberry cheesecake. Its just the right touch of sweetness and brightness. Not too rich, not too sweet—just melts in your mouth. It’s one of those desserts you think about long after the last bite. ♥️

Google
I called asking for the best seller and I was told its the traditional cheesecake. Overall it was good and light, but hard to compete with the ones I tried in Japan. I found the cheese tart to be extremely flavorful though. The picture makes it appear large but it's actually small piece. So if I would recommend one item from the menu it will be the cheese tart.

Google
I’m so glad I finally got to try the famous Japanese cheesecake.. and that Uncle Tetsu did not disappoint! We sampled the ube cheesecake, abd both my husband and I found it delicious. We also purchased ourselves the seasonal Sakura cheesecake. It is so wonderfully exquisite. The level of sweetness is absolutely perfect. I’ll definitely be craving the cheesecake from this spot from now on!

Google
Cheese cake and packaging is absolutely amazing and the interior is cute. Employees suck though. Don’t greet you at the door and if they are having a conversation they will not acknowledge you trying to order right in-front of them. Please work on your customer service!

Google
We have seen a lot of people patronizing this place and we decided to finally check it out. It was silly of us to wait. The delicious aroma of their cheesecake and tarts hits you as soon as you open the door! The staff is friendly and attentive as well. We tried a traditional cheesecake as well as a couple of their tarts. The tarts didn't make it home! As for the cheesecake, we'll it didn't last long either! You should definitely give the folks a try if you are looking for seriously delicious Japanese cheesecake and tarts. We will be back for sure!

Yelp
So first off the service is fast and very friendly. The place is clean, quite small but perfect for quick vending. The Cheesecake. OH MY GOD. Do not fall for all those other "Japanese. Cheesecakes " from like the Asian stores. This is the most amazing thing I have eaten in a long time. It melts in your mouth and is definitely cheesecakes. Seriously go here now.

Yelp
This was my first time trying out Uncle Tetsu! Service was fast - there was a slight line when we visited, but you move through quickly. The menu is somewhat constrained in that you can only get full cheesecakes rather than individual slices. No indoor seating options, so all the orders are essentially takeout. My friend and I opted for the Ube cheesecake ($14.00, 4/5). - This cheesecake was light and fluffy with a gorgeous purple color - Ube flavor is pretty subtle Overall if you're a fan of Japanese cheesecakes and/or more light desserts, this place is worth checking out! With the portion size, it's also good for splitting and sharing with others. Would be open to coming back and trying some of their other cheesecake flavors & menu options.

Yelp
A co-worker brought in an original cheesecake from Uncle Tetsu's to share around Christmas. My first time trying japanese cheesecake. Everything about it appealed to my Asian taste buds -- light, airy and (a key point) not too sweet. The texture reminded me very much of a dense sponge cake. Love, love, love! Looking forward to visiting the shop to try more flavors, like strawberry, matcha and ube.

Yelp
This was an interesting find when we were in this strip mall to checkout another restaurant. They have the most fluffy, cute looking Japanese cheesecakes in delightful flavors including s'mores, strawberry, ube and more. It was nice to have a sample up front as I had never tried this type of a cheesecake before so appreciated the chance to taste it before buying.

Yelp
Uncle Tetsu is truly a hidden gem, at least to me! With only a handful of locations in the U.S., it feels like a special treat to experience. The cultural charm of this spot is undeniable and adds to the overall appeal. The cheesecakes and tarts were absolutely delicious, with so many flavors to choose from. I tried the strawberry and ube cheese tart flavors, and they were incredible--melting in your mouth with every bite. So freaking good! I can't wait to go back and try more options. The staff was friendly and welcoming, even though we didn't interact much. Two team members were busy prepping in the back, and the cashier who helped us was quiet but nice. If you're looking for a dessert that's light, unique, and bursting with flavor, Uncle Tetsu is definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Four stars for a bakery is super high praise for me. I bought a pandan cheesecake for my birthday because I ran out of time to make my own cake (a complicated mousse cake). I love pandan, and their pandan cheesecake is perfectly scented. The cheesecake could be a bit fluffier, but it was delicious. The husband and offspring loved the ube and sesame tarts. The cheesecake biscotti is divine. I could eat the whole package in a sitting, and I would generally rather bake with than eat sugar. The young man at the counter was very helpful and kind. He gave me candles for the cake since it's my birthday. Cute packaging too

Yelp
Finally made it a point to try out a Japanese cheesecake, and Uncle tetsu, for the first time. Unlike the American version of a cheesecake, it's light and fluffy and not very sweet. They also have various flavors that honestly all sound intriguing (it was hard to make a choice!). I wasn't sure how I felt initially, but it grew on me. I think it'd make a great gift or sweet snack for a gathering. If you haven't tried it I'd encourage you to at least once! I plan to go back and try another flavor someday soon. The service itself was very quick and friendly, and the interior is clean and modern. Parking can be a hassle but if you try hard you will succeeeeed.

Yelp
The ube cookies, are killer! It's a small spot made for picking up your treats and heading out the door, not the kind of place you get to sit at a table to chit chat for a while. The cashier was friendly, didn't rush me, and also didn't try to upsell me. I call that the perfect kind of service. There are SO many good treats, I have a hard time picking. I'm a huge ube fan though and usually go with something in that realm. I have yet to try the cheesecake though. I absolutely adore the ube cookies. They have solid purple ones, these are ube w/ mochi bits in them. They also have purple and white ones that are half ube and half mochi. Both are great, I prefer the single color kinds though. They're my go to order when they have them. So while I haven't ordered a cheesecake, they look so good. They're fluffier than you'd expect and come in a variety of flavors. It's on my list for my next vist.

Yelp
I've tried Uncle Tetsu in other cities, but I can't believe it's my first time visiting the Austin location despite this being my permanent city! This is a stop-and-go location, and the staff is really friendly and helpful. They had samples of their coconut pandan cheesecake, which was really good. Uncle Tetsu might also be one of the only dessert shops in all of Austin that offers ube flavored pastries and cakes, so if you're an ube fan, this is the place for you. I ordered a Japanese classic cheesecake, ube cheese tart, and pumpkin spice cheese tart. The cheese tarts are delicious, and they're actually not too sweet or heavy. I loved how light they both were. My favorite was the pumpkin spice, so I'm sad that it's just a seasonal item. The ube was good, but I felt like I couldn't taste much of the ube. The classic cheesecake... you can never go wrong. Light, airy, and bouncy! Price for an entire cheesecake is also not bad at all.

Yelp
Uncle Tetsu is the place to go if you're a fan of Japanese cheesecake, and my experience there was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, taking the time to explain the different flavors and making sure I picked the perfect cheesecake. Their welcoming attitude made the visit even more enjoyable. I was also offered cheesecake samples in various flavors to aide in my decision on which full sized cheesecake to purchase. I opted for the Ube cheesecake, and it was simply incredible. The texture was light and fluffy, just like all of their cheesecakes, yet still packed with a unique and rich ube flavor that made every bite a delight. It's the perfect balance of airy and creamy, without being overly sweet. Uncle Tetsu really nails the signature Japanese cheesecake texture, and with flavors like Ube, it's hard to resist going back for more. If you're a cheesecake lover, this is a must-try!

Yelp
i'm not a typical cheesecake lover but when it comes to japanese cheesecake Uncle Tetsu does it so well. I tried the original and ube. they were both soft, creamy and delicious, not too sweet. i would highly recommend if you've never tried japanese style cheesecake before. the service was so nice, they helped us choose which flavors to buy and even gave us a slice as a sample! will definitely come back!

Yelp
Amazing cheese cake store from Miyazaki Japan! I love the texture and the quality of the cake!! I love the welcoming environment and sample cakes that are ready to have people try! Love to have some more! Keep up the good work! Cheers

Yelp
My biggest regret was not getting more than one Japanese cheesecake!!!!! The Japanese cheesecake was amazing, I can't wait to try the other flavors.

Yelp
Not vegan I asked the question. So sad . Nice staff and will give you samples of cake , cake was 13$ lady said , maybe price change by now but nice few color flavor choices seen and pretty colors , look soft .

Yelp
Im not very big on sweets, but my daughter brought back some Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake about a month ago and I just had to come get some more! We were greeted as soon as we walked in. They had samples readily available as soon as we walked in. We tried them and knew what we were getting instantly. Their seasonal flavor is cherry blossom right now and it was yummy! First of all, texture (can be) a big deal for me and it is just the best. I love how light & fluffy it is. It was the perfect amount of sweet and had a nice hint of floral in there.
google avatar

Yelp
Located in the shopping center (my GPS directed me wrong and thankfully someone posted a picture of the outside which helped me locate the store) this is a small bakery that is basically pick up and go spot as there is no seating available. I walked in and was greeted, a sample was offered (but I wanted to try with the other folks I was buying for) and I asked lots of questions as this was new to me. I ended up grabbing the Oreo cheesecake and also grabbed a tart. As for my liking, the cheesecake was not really to my liking. I expected it to be something besides what I got and it wasn't as sweet as I am use to cheesecakes being (yes I know most Asian desserts aren't as sweet as American sweets) however none the less I can say that I have tried this. Now, the tart was delicious! I was upset that I had only gotten one and that I was sharing the one I got with two other people. The tarts I would definitely go back for however my sister really enjoyed the cheesecake.

Yelp
This was our first time trying their cheesecakes and tart ("Also, did you know it's the same company as Panda Express ?or I should say Panda Restaurant Group owns the US franchise operators. Me either!"). We got there early right when they opened so we were the only ones there. AMBIANCE/LOCATION: It's a cute little store with no seating inside, just a grab & go. There are plenty of parking spaces since it's located in a shopping center (The Crescent) on Airport Blvd. SERVICE: The staff was friendly and helpful. We got their original cheesecake, Ube burnt basque cheesecake, and a Matcha tart to take home! They also have a reward stamp card (buy 9 cakes get the 10th free which is awesome...and dangerous). DESSERTS: Their ORIGINAL CHEESECAKE is super soft, fluffy (I want to curl my face up to it ), delicious, and lightly sweet --which I love! However, it can be dangerous like I mentioned since I can just keep eating. In my opinion, this Japanese cheesecake tastes like a cross between a Hokkaido cake, and a soufflé-like cake but lighter or less rich like American cheesecake. The UBE BURNT BASQUE CHEESECAKE is UBE-LICIOUS, smells so good, fluffy, with a soft, custard-like texture and that flavorful burnt/smoky top and edges is everything (I am also a sucker for that deep stunning purple color). Their MATCHA TART was so delish as well, but it's different than other tarts I'm used to. Their crust texture and taste are like a shortbread cookie. The matcha cheesecake filling has very subtle matcha flavor when biting with the crust, but if you just eat the filling alone you can taste a pleasant flavor of matcha with a hint of bitterness from the matcha itself. I really enjoyed it very much! Now we'll have to try their Ube tart next time! VERDICT: All-in-all, if you love cheesecake and desserts that are not too sweet, you will love this place, and if purple and delicious are your jam--you are all set here!

Yelp
The first time I had Uncle Tetsu abroad I was like woah, wishing we had one closer to home and as luck would have it they are now here in ATX! I went during opening day and was a bit surprised about the size of their storefront but to be honest I never spend a ton of time inside. I usually go in, see what peaks my interest, such as seasonal offerings or weekend specials and then tell the cashier, get rung up and on my way! During our initial visit we bought both the Japanese cheesecake in original and strawberry flavor and the ube burnt basque cake and I must say what a contrast. The Japanese cheesecake is super light with a profile most similar to angel cake but less sweet and less dense. In contrast, the basque almost reminded me of a pudding/custard, thicker but still light, and not overly sweet. If the basque wasn't double the price of their traditional Japanese cheesecake I would handsdown choose this, however due to cost I tend to pick the Japanese cheesecake. In terms of flavor, note that all of these flavors are quite subtle if you choose the Japanese cheesecake version. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of them, but I especially enjoyed the pandan one and wasn't a fan of the oreo as it tasted more like the original to me. If you are looking for more flavor, I'd recommend the burnt basque as it is more flavorful and even tasted a bit like caramel to me. Oh, and be sure to join their loyalty program as all those cakes add up!
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
This place is adorable! They were mostly out of cheesecakes when we stopped by around 8 PM on a Saturday (30 minutes before they closed) but they still had the original basque cheesecake I wanted to try! It was $13 for a cute little cheesecake was plenty to share between me and my partner. If you like Japanese-style cheesecakes or ube-flavored desserts then you should pop in and try something!
google avatar

Sasa P.

Yelp
I would say that compared to the Japanese cheesecake I had in Japan, this was good but not great. It has a nice fluffy texture, though I felt like maybe the cake was a little too dark or overcooked which dried out certain areas. They always seem to have samples which is nice, and my whole group really liked their pandan coconut sample. I appreciated that they put the ingredients for their classic cheesecake on their website FAQ for allergy purposes.
google avatar

Yelp
Passed by and saw this dainty bakery. I'm glad I tried the original cheesecake and ube mochi. Delish. Not too pricey! Pretty bags. Service was ok. Could use a little more smile. Cute pretty small place.

Yelp
It's so good that our little foster chihuahua has ruined TWO cheesecakes... $48 worth!!! One because my husband left it on the couch on a plate. Not her fault bc it was just right there asking to be eaten. And two because we had a New Year's party and our little Chihuahua jumped up to the kitchen island and pulled down on the paper that was underneath the cheesecake. This was 3/4 of a cheesecake. Probably the best day of her life besides the first one that she stole from the couch. So since she ruined the other two cheesecakes and my husband never had a chance to try it, I went and bought an Ube Basque cheesecake. The staff told me the difference between the normal Japanese cheeks cakes, and the basque cheesecake. The basque is European style and denser with a slightly burned crust. I definitely like this style better and will be back for it again. They had some samples out of the new black sesame flavor normal cheesecake, and it was also very good.
google avatar

Ellie N.

Yelp
It's the best dessert place in Austin. It's Japanese cheesecake, the soft and fluffy kind of cheesecake. It's not as dense and cheesy like the American one. For first-timers, you should go with original cheesecake. It's still my favorite. Pandan coconut and Ube are definitely worth trying. I'm not the biggest fan of pumpkin spice so I can't comment on the flavor.
google avatar

Kseniya K.

Yelp
Pricy, for $4.50 per tiny tart and $25 per small burnt basque cheesecake. Original cheesecake tart was creamier and more tender & delicate than the chocolate cheesecake tart. All desserts for sale are not as sweet as typical American desserts. Enjoy that aspect of this brand. You don't feel disgusted with yourself after treating yourself to a tiny, light, balanced cheesecake tart, which is the healthier dessert option in the Texan land of excess.
google avatar

Desiree A.

Yelp
What the heck! This place is the best!! We bought three cheesecakes for our party (original, Oreo and ubi). The party is tonight so we wanted to try one and chose the purple ubi one. Tell it on the mountains! It's Devine! I don't even know how to describe it. It's delicious. It's light. We thought it might be spongy like angel cake but it's not. It was moist but airy. I just don't know how to explain it but we ate it up! Ube is like a purple sweet potato I believe but it had a very light vanilla flavor to it. Sooo good!! Highly recommend and can't wait to eat the other two tonight!

Yelp
I was excited to finally try Uncle Tetsu after hearing about this opening in Austin. (There's one opening in Houston, where I'm from, so I got to try it before Houston location opened.) Sad to say that I left expecting more. Small storefront located in a shopping strip of other Asian businesses (bbq chicken, Daiso, kinokinuya, etc.), where there's plenty of parking. When you walk in the store, there's no seating available. You see the display of cakes and them making the cheesecakes in the back. There were samples available of one of their cheesecakes and their cheese tarts (which are only available on the weekends). Sampled the chocolate cheesecake and wasn't too impressed. My family and I decided to buy the ube cheesecake. I honestly wanted to get the ube basque cheesecake, but they didn't have a sample. :( Maybe I'm just not a fan of the Japanese style cheesecake - it's very light and fluffy, almost comparable to an angel cake or castella. Also, the ube flavoring was so subtle, barely tasted any ube. That was disappointing. I think I would've enjoyed the consistency of a basque cheesecake. Perhaps I'll have to try it sometime at the Houston location. I do wish they were able to sell single slices though.. it's tough for one person who just wants a piece rather than a whole cake to themselves. Service was friendly and attentive though, I do appreciate that. I would recommend people to try this if they enjoy a light and fluffy cheesecake rather than a very rich NY style cheesecake.
google avatar

T L.

Yelp
I am torn on the ratings. The flavor of some of their offerings are good, I especially like the basque cheesecake and the cheese tart, however, I need to take a star off for the large amount of food coloring they use in their products, which gives the unnatural and unnecessary neon green, pink and purple colors of their cakes. I would recommend that if you do try their products, stick with the ones with natural colors.
google avatar

Seth M.

Yelp
I am a CHEESECAKE FIEND! I've been wanting to try a Japanese style cheesecake for a while, and I had my opportunity while down in Austin. When I arrived I was surprised to see such a long line in the mid afternoon, but we got through the whole thing in a couple of minutes, the service was quick! The ambiance of the spot was fun, you had a few people behind the counter making cheesecakes while you were in line. I went for the Oreo Cheesecake and it was solid. The Oreo on it is huge! The cake itself was light and fluffy but still had that cheesecake taste. But in typical Japanese-baked-good fashion it wasn't overly sweet. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Lin L.

Yelp
I am always a fans of Uncle Tetsu and so happy to find it in Austin. Taste wise is very consistent, I am still a fans. My favorite is the original as always, very light & yummy. Bought the Pandan flavor today, it's a okay for me. Service is not very friendly. Only 2 people working when I walk in and they are not very welcoming. The store is tiny & cozy. It's somewhat clean. Overall I will rate 4 stars for Uncle Tetsu Austin.
google avatar

Jen H.

Yelp
A small Uncle Tetsu storefront, but one that sells all the essential Uncle Tetsu cheesecakes. If you come early enough in the day, there are samples of the cheesecake for you to try. I got to sample the strawberry cheesecake, which was light and fluffy with a hint of strawberry flavor. Uncle Tetsu is known for its light and fluffy cheesecakes that are a hybrid between Japanese milk bread and cheesecake. They have a "not-too-sweet" flavor profile and are delicious on their own. I also tried the burnt ube cheesecake (not pictured), which has a hint of ube and is more akin to traditional cheesecake. The "burnt" flavor compliments the texture and flavors of the cheesecake well. Both types of cheesecakes are worth the try if you've never had either before. So glad Uncle Tetsu now has a location in Austin!
google avatar

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Cute small space. Definitely this is a togo place, there is not any tables. Got there around 1:15 on a thursday and they had pandan samples. It was very light and airy, the pandan flavor barely came through. Love the abundance of flavor options. Great service.
google avatar

Yelp
These are not American cheesecakes. If a sponge cake and a plain omelet had a baby, you'd have your "original" Uncle Tetsu cheesecake right there. They are lightly sweet and spongy. I think they'd be tons better with fresh fruit or chocolate or coconut syrups, but then I have a mean sweet tooth. I take coffee with my sugar. Three weeks ago, Austin became the first American city outside of California to have an Uncle Tetsu bakery shop. The chain may have been founded in Japan but is today wholly owned by the American company that gave us the Panda Express. LOCATION Google Maps and Waze are crazy-baffled by Uncle Tetsu's address so let me set you straight. This takeout bakery is located inside Crescent Plaza, the large strip mall at the intersection of Airport Blvd and Lamar. I remember when Beto had his campaign headquarters here. Today the mall is a little Tokyo of sorts... Nearly every restaurant and retail outlet is Japanese and Ranch 99 - an Asian supermarket - serves as the anchor. Lots to discover here. Plenty of attractive Japanese people are customers here. INSIDE There's no seating here. Just takeout. Flavors: coffee, ube, original, strawberry and chocolate for $13 each and two "burnt basque" options (original and ube), which have been broiled, crème brûlée style for $23 each. We tried the most popular flavor - the original - and also the burnt basque ube cake. I am not a fan. But Uncle Tetsu doesn't need me. They are quite popular all over Asia, the Middle East, and even Canada. California has a bunch of them. I think they'll prosper.

Tiny B.

Yelp
The cakes from Uncle Tetsu are light, fluffy and not overly sweet in a good way. They taste much better after refrigerated for some time. I've tried flavors like Oreo, strawberry, pandan coconut, and the seasonal flavors like cherry blossom and S'more. I love them all mainly bc they're not too sweet and texture is good! The Basque cheese cake has more cheese taste and is creamier and denser. I love their original Basque cakes very much too. Dangerously addictive! It's not a big store for customers to sit in but the service is fast and friendly. I'd love to have more cakes from Uncle Tetsu for sure!

Yelp
Coming from a not-a-fan-of-American desserts girl, Uncle Tetsu is appropriately for you. If you haven't had a chance to stop by at one of the hottest new bakeries in town, what's stopping you!? Uncle Tetsu offers 2 kinds of cheesecakes: the Basque and the Japanese, both in various flavors. The Basque ($23) would be described as the heavier sister of the Japanese Cheesecake, as it's more dense, less fluffy, and a whole lotta cream cheese. It's a bit reminiscent of a regular cheesecake, but less sweetened. As for the Japanese Cheesecake ($13), the more popular sister, she's fluffy, airy and reminiscent of a hybrid between a mousse/sponge cake. Both are delicious, and depends on your mood, but if you're feeling adventurous, why not order both and see for yourself? I bought the Basque Cheesecake in Ube and the regular Japanese Cheesecake and can attest both were perfect!

Yelp
One of the newest bakery in Austin In the same plaza as 99 Ranch. The store is near BB.Q Chicken on the same side as Dasio. 13 dollars the cheesecake. I got coffee and there is a subtle hint of coffee. They also had original, strawberry, and ube as well. 14 for 4 of the cheese tart and according to them it will last about a week if not freeze them. The bakery is very small and when I went they weren't too busy on a Sunday around 1:30 PM. If you ever been to this plaza you already know parking will be horrible in the afternoon so be patience for looking for a spot to park. You can also order online as well via their website which is nice.

Yelp
Seems like Austin is getting all the good chains lately. Uncle Tetsu is super hype for their ethereal cheesecake that is fluffy and puffy and like eating a cloud. I like it because it is so light to eat and not very sweet either, which makes me think it's healthier (and can eat more of it as a result). Personally though, I prefer NY cheesecake better because I like the dense decadence with just a little bit of lemon. Rarer of a treat, but hits the spot when it does. Tried the ube flavor and while good, was craving a stronger ube flavor. Parking might be hard in the plaza when it's busy, but worth a stop if you've never had it.

Yelp
The location is pretty small, with no seating, but who needs tables for whole cheesecakes? We got the strawberry and original cheesecakes along with the cheese tarts. The cheesecakes were still warm from the oven when purchased, and we immediately put it in our cooler for our 4 hour trip back to DFW. Back home, we placed them immediately in the fridge, and after a day, they were still absolutely delicious. The tarts were my favorite, with perfect texture for both the filling and the crust. The cheesecakes were perfectly spongy with a nice bounce. Flavor wise, the original was good, but the strawberry was absolutely phenomenal with flavor balance with sweetness. I can't wait to go back for more.

Yelp
This shop is tucked away in a very popular Asian shopping center, it's small with just enough space to order and eat elsewhere. Their packaging and branding is so cute and the staff are friendly. I selected an Ube Cheese Tart and was delighted with fluffy, moist cream cheese filling in a lightly crunchy, buttery tart crust. One was large enough to share amongst 2 people. And an ube cheesecake that was so fluffy, it felt like biting into a cloud.

Yelp
SO. GOOD. I ordered strawberry and coffee. I think strawberry is my favorite. They had samples of the original and ube, so I've tried all the cheesecakes. I am not a fan of basque-style. There's a little punch card to get your 10th cake for free, so tell your friends you'll pick there's up. I ordered online, but there wasn't a huge wait on a Monday night. Parking is always challenging at that shopping center. Half the parking spaces are too small. The person that helped me was so nice and didn't judge me when I took two samples. Am I self-conscious? Yes. Does my stomach hurt from too much cheesecake? Also yes.

Yelp
Is tried the regular one and the ume? I hope that's right, the people one! So good, and light! Loved the regular one! Didn't care for the purple one, it was just an odd taste to me and seemed a bit wetter? Gooey? Could be just cooked different. I'll have to go back and try the other flavors, sad that it's so far away tho.

Yelp
I finally got to try Uncle Tetsu's Japanese cheesecake, and it was a treat! I sampled the strawberry orange flavor, which was deliciously moist and flavorful. I ended up purchasing a strawberry orange cheesecake and a pandan coconut cheesecake for $14 / each for my Galentine's event with the girls tonight. They are super excited to try them, and I couldn't wait to hear their feedback. Ordering at the counter was quick and easy, and the cheesecakes were ready to go in boxes. Parking is also easy at Crescent Plaza, especially if you come in the morning when they just open and there are fewer people. I'll update this review with everyone's thoughts, but so far, I'm impressed!

Yelp
I am so excited that I stumbled upon this shop just opening while doing my usual trips to Daiso and 85C Bakery! Walking into this shop you notice right away it's on the smaller side, and there are only a few staff but they are so friendly and kind. So with that noted, if the shop starts to get busy, please be patient. The staff make the vibe of the shop so peaceful and fun! Because they were just opening, they had little samples of chocolate cheesecake for us to try and it was super yummy! The cheesecake is light and not to sweet (aka the perfect level of sweetness). Each cheesecake can feed up to 4-6 people and are priced at $13/each. I ended up getting the original and ube cheesecake to try with my parents at home, we all liked them!

Yelp
They sell Japanese cheesecakes. I've gotten the strawberry before and it was super fluffy and has a rich, egg consistency. Love! This time, I got one of each cheese tart! Original, sesame, matcha, ube. Original is my favorite! Ube is a bit too sweet for me. Matcha and sesame are good. The tarts look beautiful

Yelp
Their cheesecake is incomparable to the ones anywhere else. It is so moist and soft that it feels like you're biting into a cloud and the cheesecake melts into your mouth. I tried to cut the cheesecake into small pieces, but it didn't turn out well, because of how soft the cake was! I was able to try the pandan+coconut and the strawberry cheesecake. When I went, they were handing out samples of the cheesecake, which I appreciated! The pandan and coconut cheesecake has a very strong flavor. I taste it more than the cheesecake itself, so for those who don't like those flavors, I wouldn't recommend it. The strawberry cheesecake was amazing. It was more of a cheesecake flavor with a hint of strawberry and it wasn't too sweet. If I could, I would finish the whole cheesecake in one sitting without getting tired of it. I'm excited to go back and try more flavors! The store has no seats, so it's a come-and-go type of place. They raised their prices to $14 per cheesecake, but I think it's still worth it. Make sure you grab a stamp card and check out the other stores there! I would say this is the small "Asian town" of Austin!

Yelp
We were surprised to see Uncle Tetsu make it's way to Texas! We went often while living in Arcadia, CA and loved seeing that it was here. We got their original flavor on this visit, but can attest the Oreo and strawberry are also great! It's a light, fluffy texture that isn't too sweet and the perfect dessert after eating a large meal. They aren't very big and can feed about 4-6 people if given a moderate portion. Service was prompt and parking was plentiful even on a busy Sunday.

Yelp
Fluffy cheesecakes arrive in Austin! And they don't disappoint! I've tried a few of their flavors and they were all great. I really want to try the basque cheesecakes. I've been dying to come back. There's also individual tarts that sound delicious.

Yelp
This is a cool concept and a great addition to the area. They have nice flavors and good pricing ($13). I found their cheesecake to be more dense than fluffy, which is what I think of when I hear Japanese cheesecake (jiggly). Friendly service, nice packaging, and an enjoyable dessert.

Yelp
They have an Ube that is killer! It's airy, light & fluffy. The Rosemead location is great. The service is great. However, after its debut a few months ago; I don't think it's doing as well as originally expected. Thank you

Yelp
We ordered the Ube cheesecake and the original cheesecake! This is a very cute shop located in the Crescent shopping center. The staff is very friendly and you can tell they love what they do as soon as you walk in. We bought our cakes and the woman behind the counter was extremely helpful with answering our questions about storing them. The cheesecakes were both fluffy and lighter than a regular cheesecake. Almost like a sponge cake or pound cake. Although they look small, 1 cake was enough for 3 adults with some left over. They keep well for 2 days and around the 3rd they started to dry out. Overall we loved them and we love the Uncle Tetsu staff!
