LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"Apparently one new Japanese pasta spot wasn’t enough because here’s another one, and this time in Redondo Beach. They too have a lineup of more traditional Italian pasta, but the focus here is wafu pasta, which means you’ll find ingredients like shiso, mentaiko, and Japonica soy sauce, and seafood pasta options with anchovy and salmon." - cathy park

Best Under-the-Radar New Restaurant Openings to Check Out in Los Angeles, February 2025 | Eater LA

"A wafu pasta specialist blending Japanese ingredients and flavors with classic Italian noodle dishes; the menu is divided into sections with different sauce bases, including an uni-based sauce, white cream sauce, and Bolognese. The classic uni cream pasta is recommended as a great place to start on a first visit." - Rebecca Roland

4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: February 21 | Eater LA

"This new Japanese-Italian pasta spot reflects how Italian food in Japan has become its own genre, blending classic spaghetti dishes with a slight edge of Japanese sensibility and flavoring; bolognese, for example, can come with sliced mushrooms and asparagus nestled into a tangle of al dente noodles and mellow meat sauce. The menu includes pollock roe-cream mentaiko, uni cream, and curry bolognese, all tossed with long, chewy spaghetti strands. The restaurant only opened a week and a half ago and still seems to be getting its sea legs from an operations standpoint—not that service is slow or inattentive; food arrived quickly and piping hot, though staff might tell diners that wait times for a seat could be 30 or more minutes when it might actually be well under that. Going in with those expectations, the place is "here to please and feed," with heaping pasta portions served on hearty diner plates—expect to go home very, very full. — Matthew Kang, lead editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest" - Eater Staff

Google
I really wanted to like this place given its attempt to take on a Japanese and Italian pasta fusion. Everything tasted fine, but it was very standard. There wasn't a dish that stood out. I was most excited for the uni truffle pasta. However, aside from being able to taste the ocean saltiness and some artificial fragrance of truffle, there was just something missing. The noodle itself was the most disappointing. Tasted like grocery store bought ones such as Barilla. I didn't expect them to be homemade, but they could've sourced it better. The price is average. I will say the only redeeming qualities are the quantity and well decorated interior. Plenty of free parking in the lot. Unfortunately I do not think I'll be returning.

A delicious and unique dining experience! I love both Italian and Japanese food so this fusion restaurant was right up my alley. The white peach margarita was enough for me to come back! It took me a long time to order because everything sounded so good! We ordered the curry bolognese and the uni truffle pasta- both went beyond our expectations! Can’t wait to try more dishes in the future!

We came here for the DineLA experience and it was definitely a solid choice. We had to deduct a star because they had run out of Cauliflower Soup as the appetizer, the Unico Salad Panko wasn't as warm and crispy as we would have expected and the Garlic Bread was just average. The Garlic Shrimp and Chicken Shisolico were delicious but someone in our party thought hat instead of fusion, we had basically ordered two italian dishes with hardly any "Japanese" in the food. We will come back here and try one of the other dishes and will update this review.

Google
First time here bc its DineLA menu looked very enticing. I was disappointed bc the place had no AC for a warm evening; we got seated at a tiny table even though it was at 20% occupancy: all wooden chairs or wooden bench with a very thin cushion so not comfortable; we asked for ice water but got chilled water, by now my appetite was gone. The dishes were ok, didn’t like the cabbage and asparagus in the spaghetti with Shrimps/ ground beef. Soup n salad were coffee shop quality. The servers were really nice tho.

We went on a Thursday night around 7:45pm. We waited around 10 mins so it was not bad. We ordered garlic bread, uni yasai and curry bolognese. I thought the garlic bread is little pricy but they tasted good. Uni yasai is made with creamy uni sauce, the uni sauce was very tasty. I already wanted some more before i finished my dish. The curry in Curry bolognese was not overpowering. Both pasta dishes were delicious. We will definitely come back soon.

Wasted Money, Wasted Calories. As soon as I looked at menu, we should have walked out. I didn’t realize it was part of the Japonica chain until we had already ordered appetizers. Japonica is terrible but this was worse. We ordered the burrata, the butter garlic shrimp and the garlic bread. The shrimp was flavorless and no garlic or butter was ever in its vicinity. The five tiny shrimp floated in a vat of overly rosemaried olive oil atop 5 canned rubbery slices of mushroom. Completely awful. We then figured we’d make the best of it and try the “most popular” vodka pasta. This was so immediately “chef boyardee” with the matching teenie tiney canned vienna sausage weenies cut into it. If my 10 year old child made this, I would have pretended to eat it and loved it and thrown it out. We threw the fork in and asked for the check. How anyone thinks this is passable food to serve in a restaurant and charge for it, is mind blowing to us. Atmosphere is cute, love the design. However, if you want a cool loud vibe, at least splurge on some speakers around the place not just a faint blown out echo of inaudible music coming from one device in the kitchen. Service was friendly, but our server didn’t check on us and we bussed ourselves. Our server also lied about the ingredients of the food. Would never recommend! Save yourselves.

Second time visiting, got the Napolitan pasta and it was delicious! Incredible flavor and our server Dennis recommended adding Tabasco and it was the perfect addition. Love the variety of sauces and this trip made me excited to come back and try more!

Let’s start by saying that I have been eyeballing this restaurant for quite some time and have been looking forward to eating here. I am happy that I did! The restaurant is in such a great location. I enjoyed the overall experience, the service was excellent, the food was prepared incredibly fast, the drinks were excellent for the weather. I ordered the White Peach Beach and Lime Lychee. Definitely prefer the Like Lychee, they’re not overly sweet. Refreshing for a hot day for sure. I ordered Burrata Caprese for the table with Garlic Bread. The 2 paired beautifully, which should be considered 1 dish, but hey I just for the experience. The Caprese was delicious and balanced. The Curry Bolognese was such an odd combination yet delightful. At first bite I wasn’t sure how I felt, it wasn’t until the 2nd and 3rd bite that I fell in love with the dish. The overall ambiance was relaxing and inviting. The staff is friendly and engaging. I will definitely be returning to explore the menu.

Yelp
Overall a great experience! Our servers Victoria and Dennis were super hospitable and welcoming. The immediate thought of this place shouted "Torrance" with their modern and classy decor, which felt like home. The amazing food we had featured shrimp confit, yuzu pepericino, and unico bolognese! Great for family and friends.

Yelp
I came here for my coworker's birthday. They gave us free sample wine. The pasta was so delicious! Dennis was our server and he was great and always had great attention. I will be back for sure!

Yelp
Unico Tokyo Pasta was such a fun and unique spot, we ordered almost everything off the DineLA menu, and overall the flavors were great. The mentaiko pasta was definitely my favorite; super savory, creamy, and well-balanced. That said, I do wish they had more variety in appetizers or lighter dishes. With so many pastas, it ended up feeling a bit carb-heavy and repetitive. A few small plates to break things up would've made the meal feel more complete. Customer service could also use some improvement. No one was rude, but the vibe wasn't the most attentive or welcoming. Still, for a creative take on Japanese-style pasta, it's worth checking out, especially if you love mentaiko!

Yelp
Tasty food, valuable portions, fun flavors, clean/ cute ambience. Go for DineLA if you can! DineLA was a great value for $25 per meal: - salad - choice of cauliflower soup or 2-piece garlic bread - choice of pasta (appeared full dinner-sized) Salad was simple with crisp lettuce (?iceberg), mayo-based dressing, and topped with my favorite part: breadcrumbs and ?sesame. I ate it all! Garlic bread was 2 thin, crispy toast slices: a great complement to the soup and pasta (though for dineLA recommend to bring a friend to share/trade garlic bread and soup. If you must choose one appetizer: cauliflower soup was amazing. I probably would not have ordered it on my own, but glad we tried it! It was like a light cheddar broccoli. Pastas were tasty. Uni truffle was packed with flavor and lightly creamy. Curry Bolognese was tasty, though I would've preferred more tomato sauce or an extra scoop of sauce in general. It felt slightly dry. Drinks were not part of the DineLA option, but we wanted a shirley temple and peach beach mocktail (like a sparkling peach lemonade with a lovely tartness). The drink was one of my favorite parts of the meal. Service was prompt, attentive, and genuinely nice. I enjoyed the spacious layout full of small groups and pairs. A good place for a date, nice casual dinner with friends, or calmer family vibes. Would like to return to try more pasta and get the soup again!

Yelp
Amazing food and amazing service! My friends and I came for DineLA and got a few different pastas to share and they were all so good! I think my favorite was the Uni Truffle and the Yuzu. Our server Dennis was also so attentive and was always there to get us our refills as quickly as possible. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I always love it whenever dineLA comes along because it gives me an opportunity to try out new restaurants all while getting a good deal. Unico Tokyo Pasta has been on my bookmarks for quite sometime now and when I was saw they were part of this year's dineLA participants, I knew it was a perfect time to check this spot out. Located at PCH, Unico Tokyo Pasta is next to South Bay Pizza. There is plenty of parking at the back. The restaurant has seating both inside and outside. When we came the spot was moderately busy. Though we were seated right away, it took a little bit for them took our order. They also didn't give the dineLA menu and so we had to ask for that. My friend and I both chose to partake in dineLA. The dineLA offering is $25 and is a three course that comes with a first course of their Unico salad, a second course with choice of Koji Cauliflower Soup or Garlic Bread and a third course with choice of their Uni Truffle, Curry Bolognese, Napolitan, Yuzu Pepperoncino, Chicken Shisolico, Mentaiko, Garlic Salmon and Garlic Shrimp. The Unico Salad made for a great first course. The salad consist of romaine hearts as it's based and is topped with panko crumbs and Caesar dressing. I loved that they were generous with the panko crumbs and Caesar dressing. The salad was delicious. For our second course, both my friend and I chose to get their Koji Cauliflower Soup. This soup consists of cauliflower and Koji probiotics. The Koji probiotics gave this soup a sweet and savory umami flavor. Soup overall was simple yet full of depth. For our main entrees, I chose the Curry Bolgonese and my friend got the Chicken Shisolico. The Curry Bolognese is one of their most popular dishes. The spaghetti noodles is topped with Japanese curry, Wagyu beef pancetta Bolognese, asparagus, onion and mushroom. The curry packed a subtle punch that delivered a rich and satisfying spicy taste. I liked the mix Wagyu beef and pancetta Bolognese. The asparagus was a great touch and added a fresh, crunchy texture. My only complaint would be I wish they added more asparagus. I tried a little bit of my friend's Chicken Shisolico. This spaghetti dish had Japanese shiso herb, basil pesto and Jidori chicken. This was a very light dish. It wasn't as flavorful as my pasta and I do think it could have used more sauce. Overall I enjoyed my first visit to Unico Tokyo Pasta. The dineLA deal is a good one to get a taste of their different dishes! For the future, I may try out their Happy Hour deals and their lunch deals Monday thru Thursday.

Yelp
Decided to try UNICO TOKYO PASTA after it caught our eye as we drove by one night. Looked up the menu and it had potential since we've had Japanese-Italian fusion pasta dishes before and loved it. We made reservations just to be sure, but you can also join the waitlist via Yelp, which is super convenient! Very simple, classic farmhouse style, with cute seating inside, as well as outside. For the food, we really enjoyed it -- Garlic bread was good, tasty appetizer to hold you over until your main dish comes, or even to eat with your pasta. We tried the curry bolognese, Uni truffle, and the garlic salmon pastas. All were so delicious, and if I had to rank them in order of preference, it would be in that exact order. We ordered the chocolate ganache to try and to cleanse our palate. Served warm and a nice treat after all these different flavors, but nothing special. Service was great. Our server made sure to check on us and that we had everything we needed, but wasn't overbearing. There's also a small lot behind for parking. Overall a wonderful experience, we will be back for sure!

Yelp
I was so excited to try this place after I saw it on TikTok. My favorite dish here was the Mentaiko and the Burrata Caprese! I do wish the Burrata Caprese had a crunch with it, so it was great on top of the garlic bread. The garlic bread was good too. I wish the uni truffle had more of a uni taste, couldn't really taste that at all. The vibes here were chill and nice casual-esque. With everything we ordered, for two people, we still had a little leftover (we might be smaller eaters though lol). They have a private parking lot, no issues finding a spot when we came later in the night during a weekday. We made a reservation through Yelp and was seated pretty quickly. I would come back to try more things!

Yelp
Love love love this place! I love Japanese food and Italian and this is def the spot! Coming from the Bay Area I've tried a place that has the Japanese Italian fusion, this place just feels like there's more options for pasta! We started off with the Burrata Caprese and it was so refreshing and yummy. The burrata hit the spot and it came with some bomb a$$ garlic bread. We also got the curry bolognese & the napolitan spaghetti. At first I couldn't tell which one I liked better because both were sooooo good. The curry bolognese was such a unique pasta, the taste of Japanese curry with bolognese was something I wouldn't have thought of to pair so well together. The napolitan was the star of the show, it was exactly like how the spaghetti we had in Japan and it was soooo yummy. Light weight on the sweet side, but truly light weight bc it still catered to the Italian kind of spaghetti. The Japonica Rice Lager my friend got was also so refreshing and nice, perfect for a warm day. The pastas came out pretty quick after we ordered too. There's street parking or a lot in the back. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Located on the corner of PCH and Avenue F, the restaurant has its own parking lot and indoor seating for 60 people plus outdoor tables for 20. Inside it is bright and clean, with the vibe of a modern eatery with its open kitchen, porcelain wood look tile floor and monochromatic decor. 5 stars for the attentive waitress who brought the menu and water right away and patiently explained to us difference between the dishes and sauces. We ordered the following: Uni Cream: Off course we must try its signature dish. The noodles were cooked perfectly with a very nice texture. However, the sauce was quite thick and not really creamy. Also, there was just a hint of Uni which I wish would stand out more in the sauce. The flavor was on the light side and slightly sweet. Good but not at umami level. Garlic Anchovy with Chicken: Even though I was anticipating the sauce to be briny due to anchovy, the excessive saltness was beyond my expectation and overpowered the overall taste of the sauce. The chicken breast bits were a great healthy choice but slightly on the dry side. The noodles were cooked to perfection and al dente. The prices were reasonable for the portions and location. IMHO, the restaurant has the potential to be one of the go-to places for Japanese pasta in South Bay, they just need to make some tweaking on the sauces.

Yelp
By far, the worst service I've encountered in recent memory. For the record: I rarely give 1 star reviews, and when I do, it's because the run was just that bad. Unfortunately, this is one of those rare occasions. Made a reservation for 4 (plus an 8month old) for outdoor seating. We were all excited because the DineLA menu not only looked good, it was a bargain for what they're offering. Our reservation was for opening hour (mainly because I wanted to avoid a wait) and got there about five minutes early. We hung out at the car until maybe 2-3 minutes to tee time. Made the walk to the front door and waited for service. Nobody was up front. I did see a couple of kitchen staff talking amongst themselves. Took them a moment to notice my party (along with another) and appeared a teenee bit frazzled as they searched for the host. Then here she comes - Ari (if that is, in fact, her name - I saw a few mentions of Mari in the reviews, possibly the same person) struttin' her way to the check-in counter like she was on a catwalk. Walks by me, goes inside the counter, walked back out, disappeared. No acknowledgement. Eh, we were early. She comes back, walked by me again, still nothing. I looked behind at my Mom and niece - who witnessed the whole thing - and Mom softly comments with "It's like we don't exist." [M]Ari heard it and clapped back with, "We open at 11am, give me a minute." It was 10:59.43. (Yeah, I have one of those watches that tells time down to the second.) Sure. Fault us for being there seconds too early, we'll take the hit for that. My instincts were screaming for us to leave because nothing is worth THAT rudeness. But Mom said, "We're already here. They have good reviews. Let's give them a try." I walked away for a few seconds to decompress. Came back a moment later and she calls my name. "Is everyone in your party here?" "Yes." Still no welcome greet, which is fine since we're beyond that at this point, And she proceeds to seat us inside. Never mind my request for outdoor seating. Didn't want to complicate things further, so I let it be. We all opted for the DineLA menu: 3 orders of Uni truffle and one yuzu pepperoni pastas. 2 orders of soup and 2 orders of garlic bread. Salad all around. Also had to try the burrata Caprese. UNICO SALAD: Fresh vege, really good added crunch and texture from the panko, but a little light on the seasoning. Good palate cleanser, though. GARLIC BREAD: This was perfect! Grilled with a light char, perfect amount of garlic taste and aroma, perfect seasoning. BURRATA CAPRESE: Like the garlic bread, also perfect. Combining basil, cherry tomatoes, burrata and dabs of seasoned olive oil in one bite... yum! UNI TRUFFLE: There was that initial aroma of truffle, light as it was, that eventually dissipated the more bites I took. Noodles were cooked perfect, but overall underwhelming. I got to try Hubbers' yuzu pepperoncini pasta. Had a slight kick, but delicious. Tried the cauliflower soup - not for me. But the rest of my party liked it. FOOD: 3. Not great, but good. SERVICE: In the negative/red because of the initial interaction with [M]Ari. But wait.. THERE's MORE! 1) At delivery of our food, we asked her what a wafu sauce is. She responds so blandly with, "It's soy sauce." Walks away. Okay...? 2) She never checked on us the whole time, but she was oh, so good at it with the table next to us making sure they were happy. I was bothered enough with the experience that I didn't really enjoy my meal - one can say it simply left a bad taste. Couldn't even get through half my plate. 3) The ultimate straw that broke the camel's back. Another helped clear our tables, and although she was sweet, it was very little interaction. Asked her for the tab twice that never came. We were on a time crunch so I went up to the counter to pay there. Mom, niece and her 8month old began making their way back to the car. [M]Ari sees me, walks by me and places the POS apparatus on our table - where my husband was seated still. Took a deep breath, walked back to the table, paid the tab, left. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. VALUE: 3. PARKING: Private lot located at the back. Be mindful of signs, some spaces are not for this place. OVERALL: 1.5. [M]Ari made it clear from the very beginning we are not to be served well. It didn't feel good leaving $0 tip (obviously due to dreadful service, which, by the way, I haven't done in decades) but there's no one to blame here but her. MANAGEMENT: I saw you have surveillance cameras. If you need verification, just review your footage. ONE. AND. DONE.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for dineLA and everything was delicious. Patrick was our server and he was awesome! This is the second time I've been here and service is always great! Ambiance was average with music in the background and plenty of seats! Thank you again for this amazing meal!

Yelp
As usual, I landed here by accident looking for a nice pizza place we decided to not look forward and went in tu Único... foods is a total new experience, Italian Japanese fusion plates. My wife asked for the fix menu with a salad, then a coli flower soup, excellent !! And last the bolognese with Japanese sausage and cilantro and Umani sauce pasta... I had the Alfredo black mushroom chicken pasta. New known flavors in the fusion... light delightful food with taste and finesse... no doubt... and with Patrick serving us polite and on time made the experience even better... the place is small but pleasant with a Japanese touch in the wall advertising... Redondo Beach is the place!! Try it it's worth it !!!

Yelp
They are currently doing a special where you get a salad, garlic bread or soup, and pasta for $25 which I thought was a very good deal since just ordering the pasta would be around $22-26 depending on what kind you get. I got the yuzu pasta which I thought was good but not amazing. The salad was good and the garlic bread was nothing special. The service here was very friendly and quick! Overall the portions were pretty big and the special they were running was very worth it but the flavor was slightly lacking. It's a nice place close the the beach and plenty of seating tho!

Yelp
Came here for the second time, this time for the DineLA menu to celebrate a friend's birthday during lunch. The DineLA menu offered a salad, a choice of garlic bread or cauliflower soup and a choice of various pastas. You can't go wrong with the garlic bread. The garlic is cooked and soft enough to be used as a spread. A friend had the cauliflower soup and enjoyed it. She mentioned that it had a tinge of sweetness. This time I chose the salmon pasta with mushroom and asparagus for my entree. Lots of umami flavor with the garlic and Parmesan cheese. This is Japanese style pasta so don't expect a sauce on your pasta. This was a nice menu offered for DineLA diners to try the restaurant if this is their first time. Both times the service has been great. There is outdoor seating. There's a shared parking lot on the side and back of the building.

Yelp
Came spontaneously with my family, the waitlist said a long wait but it was less than 15 minutes! We had the dine LA meal, my husband ordered the Uni Pasta and I chose the curry bolognese. Tylically I don't like salads, but I could eat the salad that came with the Dine LA meal everyday. That simple salad is so good. Garlic bread had a thick spread of garlic, kids ate it all. Both pasta we choose are the most popular and I agree, both dishes are unique taste. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
If you like pasta with a Japanese flare, this is exactly the place you're looking for. Reminded me of eating in Japan. There's an iPad near the door, right inside. You enter yourself onto the waitlist, name and cell phone number. There are a few tables outdoors, but most of the tables are inside. Tables for groups of two to four. The indoor tables are spaced pretty close together. The gentleman who worked there provided my party of two with the option of the corner table at a high table or regular table. I opted for the latter, but once the party next to me with two children sat down, we moved and sat at the high table for less crowding. No problem. The waiter was smart. He gave us a sample of the white wine. It was so good, we ordered a glass each, and received a full poor. I ordered the Bolognese pasta. The pasta was perfectly al dente. The meat sauce was delicious. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and appear to enjoy what they do. There's free street parking right in front of the restaurant, off of Pacific Coast Highway.

Yelp
Unico Tokyo Pasta is a must try spot for fusion food lovers! This spot is serving up some delicious wafu pastas, also known as Japanese-inspired pastas. To get here, there is a parking lot in the back of the restaurant or street parking all around the area. Wifey and I pulled up for lunch around 12pm and were seated right away upon arrival. They have a modern and welcoming setup with seating inside and outside on their patio. For their menu, they have a wide range of different wafu pastas and appetizers to choose from. Wifey opted for the Uni Yasai and I chose the Curry Bolognese. Overall, everything we had tasted delicious with unique flavor profiles that stood out. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Definitely book a table here for your next lunch or dinner and you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
I think there may be a lot in the back, but I think it's really small, so you probably need to get lucky with street parking. My group had a reservation, so we went right in and were seated at a table. The servers were so nice and friendly! It was cute and pretty spacious in the restaurant, with tables that weren't too close together. We ordered three different pastas and just shared family style. The noodles were all cooked nicely and the pastas all came out hot and fresh! Spicy vodka was fairly spicy (to me, I am weak with spice), but still pretty sweet-- this was my favorite pasta. The curry bolognese had a strong curry flavor and was on the heavier side. The yuzu peperoncino was really spicy for some reason to me (again, I am weak), and was my least favorite. Desserts were so good. The chocolate ganache was warm and gooey, and the strawberry cheesecake pudding was my favorite! I definitely will come back here!

Yelp
First time dining here as I drive pass every day. Made a decision to make a Yelp reservation, which was helpful. They offer lunch specials as well as Happy Hour deals. Parking lot behind and along the side of the restaurant and shared with a few other eateries and a bar. Outdoor dining area along with indoor dining. Our server was very nice and when we mentioned it was our first time, he made some recommendations. He was so excited about his descriptions of the dishes that he was salivated while he spoke. Very charming. We ordered mocktails, garlic bread and pasta entrees. Please note that the side salad was only $3, which is unheard of!! No room for dessert. Thanks for the experience. Ok, bye

Yelp
Unico is a pasta based restaurant that leans towards Japanese influenced cuisine. What they offer is a variety of various pasta dishes, each with the unique flavor. They have all kinds of different varieties. They have some with meat, some without, some with garlic, some with soy sauce, some with Bolognese, some with whatever you can think of. There's a lot of choices to be made here. And, they're all pretty good. They also have a wine list, and they offer a couple of different beers. Their beer menu is pretty small. Plus, they have all of the other drinks you would expect. Overall, they offer a uniquely signature blend of both food and drink. In terms of the atmosphere, they have a number of tables around the restaurant, as well as a few outdoor tables. A couple things to think about when you come here is that they do like you to have reservations. It makes the whole thing easier. But, it is certainly not required. If you don't have a reservation, what you'll do is you walk inside and there you'll see a pad where you enter your name and phone number and this put you on the waitlist. Generally, if there's not too many people here, this is just be a few minutes of a wait. But, this tends to be a popular restaurant, it can sometimes become crowded. With this, your wait may be a little bit long if you don't have a reservation. In terms of parking, there's the obvious parking along PCH. There's not a whole lot of that, however. They do have a parking lot to the side of the restaurant and this may be your best bet. Overall, it's a casual and easy place to grab a pasta orientated meal. If that's what you're looking for, this is where you will find it in Redondo Beach.

Yelp
1. Mentaiko pasta: pasta slightly too al dente. Hoping it would be more creamy. Tasted more like cheese than mentaiko for some reason. I've had better in South Bay 2. Uni cream with truffle: pasta itself cooked better here. Nice flavor but over again could use more cream 3. Yasai bolognese: liked the asparagus. Wagyu beef just tastes like regular beef. The sauce falls flat. Missing some acidity from the tomato sauce. 4. Cauliflower Soup: slightly sweet. Not much flavor 5. Garlic bread: more salty than garlicky butter. Toasted well though

Yelp
The pasta left much to be desired, but the service was really good and quick! More of a casual dining setting. Pasta e Pasta by Allegro remains #1 to me for Japanese-Italian fusion pasta. Uni truffle pasta: 2.5/5. I could not really taste uni in this pasta, so it felt more like a very creamy truffle lemon pasta with bits of microgreens. The flavor was very one-dimensional to me and got tiring very quickly :( The microgreens didn't really add much to the pasta, and the lemon that I squeezed on top honestly didn't go too well with the pasta to me personally since it overpowered the sauce and made it too sour (maybe I added too much? but there is no such thing as too much lemon to me usually). Garlic chicken pasta: 2.5/5. I did not try this, but according to my friend, the flavors were very one-dimensional as well and she had to constantly add black pepper for more flavor.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night (party of 4) around 6pm and was actually able to be seated pretty much right away! Our server was attentive and staff were all around kind! Also very aesthetic design of the business and interior too. All of their portions can be split over 2 meals and are pretty fair for the price. I got the mentaiko pasta. It comes with lots of basil and lemon, which add good flavor while helping cut through the heaviness (although the heaviness isn't as bad here compared to some other mentaiko pastas). I felt like the sauce was a little lacking in both flavor and creaminess and was just missing something in general. But overall it was a good dish! A little oily when reheated.

Yelp
The parking situation is awful because of the huge dip at the lot that scrapes the bottom of your car no matter what, but the food is amazing. I highly recommend this spot because everything else is just so well thought out. The pasta is delicious every time, which I appreciate since I value consistency. The mentaiko pasta is my favorite because most places don't offer this dish often anymore at a flavor that's lovely and not watered down. Portion is more than enough in my opinion for a 5' 7" Asian chick that loves to eat, heehee. I love ordering a to go for later since it's hard to come back all the time due to distance. Service is lovely and the ambiance is lovely, too.

Yelp
Pasta was good, serving sizes were decent. Defintely choice paralysis with the amount of pastas available but the flavor was pretty good. Cheese was extra charge tho . Waiter complimented my sweater so shoutout to her she was mad chill. Also thanks for accommodating our large ahh party, I would've crashed out having to put together all those tables.

Yelp
Great attentive and friendly service. Smallish, casual spot. Not too busy on a Thursday night but a constant stream of customers. We had the cauliflower soup, sausage pasta with a pomodoro sauce, uni truffle pasta and shrimp with garlic sauce. They had a nice wine to pair it with unique glasses. I would love to try some of their other items but just didn't have enough room. Portions are perfect size. Good location to walk to the Redondo beach.

Yelp
Dennis is the reason I'll keep coming back to Unicorn Tokyo Pasta! From the moment we walked in, he made the entire experience exceptional. His attention to detail, warm hospitality, and knowledge of the menu made us feel truly taken care of. The pasta was incredible--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated--but Dennis took it to the next level. He anticipated what we needed before we even asked, made great recommendations, and created an all-around memorable dining experience. If you go, ask for Dennis. He's a pro and made our night unforgettable. Unicorn Tokyo Pasta, you've got a gem on your team!

Yelp
Highly recommend the mentaiko noodles! It was smokey and creamy at the same time. Also got the uni ebi, super creamy as well. My partner really enjoyed the garlic bread but personally i thought it was a little dry. Skip the lime lychee mocktail, it was basically just lime. We sat outside and it was cute watching the sunset. Service was quick and everyone was friendly and had a lot of energy. Cute place for a date!

Yelp
I was curious in giving Unico a try since it recently opened. Came on a weekend just after it opened, and I was the first one in. The place slowly filled up shortly after, but it's a spacious restaurant with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Service was very nice and friendly, and I ordered the Uni Truffle, which came in a relatively-generous portion and was rich with cream. The uni (sea urchin) was more of an aftertaste, rather than whole chunks of it, and it blended right in with the cream. The truffle, while tasty, did overpower the uni flavor, but as I like truffle, I didn't mind. Overall, a decent spot for Japanese-style pasta. While not mind-blowing, I'd say it's on-par with similar establishments like Spoon House. Pretty good!

Yelp
Stopped by quickly for a bite just before our meditation class. Thought uni pasta would be interesting to try so we both got the same. Very cute venue with a variety of pastas one of which was the Uni pasta. As the name suggests it's spaghetti pasta with Sea urchin CrEAM (not sure if actual Uni used to blend and make the cream). The pasta was fair and my friend was a big fan but personally don't know if uni in a pasta is my fav. They also have other pasta dishes using Alfredo, bolognese, and also garlic flavoring (also white sauce) that seem tasty. Wouldn't mind visiting again to try the others

Yelp
Unico Tokyo Pasta finally opened! It's a small intimate restaurant but it gets busy and loud, especially on weekends. They have cute outside patio seating as well. We came to try one of my favorite dish! The Uni cream Pasta and it did not disappoint! Very creamy and rich and pasta was adente. Their Kitchen is kind of semi open so I got a glance to see the chef worked. Great customer service! Wait wasn't so bad if you come a little later on a Saturday night. They have yelp check in and if you live 1 mile within, you can check in first before you get there. Small shared parking lot with South Bay Pizza in the small center. I'll be back to try their other pastas!

Yelp
Solid spot with some standout pastas. I got the mentaiko with salmon, and hands down, that was the best dish of the night, rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Second favorite was one from the bottom left of the menu (wish I remembered the name), but it was a thicker noodle with shrimp and had a nice chew and solid seasoning. The curry Bolognese didn't do much for me, felt flat and forgettable. Service was great all around, super attentive without being overbearing. Bonus points for the Japanese rice beer, which was light, crisp, and paired well with the food. I'd come back just for the mentaiko.

Yelp
First time here but ordered through DoorDash. The bolognese pasta was amazing, great flavor, perfect texture for the pasta. I would definitely order again and recommend this place! Great quality!

Yelp
Japonica's sister restaurant! Parking lot is shared with other businesses, including Japonica. It's pretty busy on weekends so I would utilize Yelp check in if you can. There is an outside patio with heaters. They allow dogs on the patio. I got the Yuzu Peperocino. 5/5. It's has a small spicy kick but super mild. The flavor is citrusy and the pancetta is salty. I really like it. My husband got the yasai bolognese. It was okay, I thought the sauce was a bit dry. 3/5 Noodles cooked al dente. I would recommend to try one of their speciality items. Also when we went there, the Wafu Vongole was not available to order (X out on the menu). Service super friendly!

Yelp
We walked past this restaurant on the way to a nearby bakery and it caught our eye. I had such a great experience at Unico in Redondo Beach! The atmosphere is warm, stylish, and inviting -- perfect for a night out or a relaxing dinner. What really made the evening stand out, though, was the incredible service from Dennis. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure we had everything we needed. From his great recommendations to the way he checked in without being overbearing, Dennis made the whole dining experience feel smooth and personal. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. The food was delicious and well-prepared -- every dish was fresh and beautifully presented. I'll definitely be back, and I'll be asking for Dennis again. Highly recommend! We stumbled upon their DineLA tasting menu of 25 for a 3 course meal of salad, appetizer and an entree. The portions are more than enough to have seconds for later.

Yelp
Overall amazing. The dishes and drinks are unique, fresh, and flavorful. Service was on point. The ambiance is clean, cute, and relaxing. I will return and recommend to others.

Yelp
Disappointed to join the recent reviews, but this is probably the most mid restaurant I've eaten at in a while. I had high hopes for it and it was the top choice on my to go list since I love a good Japanese pasta place. But it was just so meh. The food - we got the uni truffle and the wagyu bolognese. The uni in the pasta wasn't bad, but the truffle was nowhere to be found. The wagyu bolognese was a decent bolognese, but again, lacked any sort of special punch. The service was also pretty dismal. Restaurant was almost empty and we didn't see our serve once. We were in and out in 30 mins because it was such a mediocre experience. I'm looking forward to trying Spoon House next instead.

Yelp
The hype was crazy so I think we went into it with really high expectation. When we went, no resy was allowed yet so we did wait close to 50 min for our table during peak dinner hours. Burrata Caprese is solid, and the garlic bread is good, but it's just two small pieces so sorta not worth it for the price. For pasta, I had the Napolitan, and the Napolitan here is a more grown up version of the Japanese dish, but it is oddly very very sweet to us. We didn't really like it that much. For the Uni Cream, while good, our group's uni connoisseur wished there was a stronger uni flavor. The alfredo is a solid alfedo. The Garlic Anchovy Salmon was my favorite one of the night but may not be for everybody due to the strong flavors. Once seated, it took some time for them to come take our order. Even though it's been some time since they opened, I think they still have a few kinks to work out. No matter what I'd always compare any Japanese pasta spots to Spoon House and Pasta e Pasta and this place isn't up to their level for me.

Yelp
My friends ordered the curry pasta and Uni Ebi pasta and I had the Shisolico chicken pasta. The Uni ebi had a nice creamy texture with strong uni flavor and was by far the best pasta. My pasta didn't have any shiso flavor at all and the the chicken and pasta were super dry. I asked the server if I could get more sauce added to help with the dryness and he said sure but that will be an extra $3! Here's a picture of my dry pasta and extra scoop of $3 pesto sauce that made my pasta edible not enjoyable. At least there's parking here and the space is wide and spacious.

Yelp
Came here after a catch-up walk with a friend, and I think I like the sauce better than Pasta e Pasta (but I like their actual pasta a little better). We got the mentaiko pasta and napolitan, which were both fantastic. The mentaiko has a very very tiny kick but I didn't notice it until my friend mentioned it was a little spicy. I would've gotten the uni pasta but my friend did not like uni. The napolitan tastes like an elevated Filipino spaghetti sauce. I highly recommend mixing the napolitan pasta into the leftover cream pasta sauce. I also got the shrimp confit and it sucked. The menu image made it look like it was a really robust and juicy shell-on shrimp but it was just frozen shrimp in some oil. Worst $9 I ever spent. I also left that feedback on insta and never got a solution so am putting it here to warn others.

Yelp
For Sunday late lunch we went to Unico, a Japanese pasta place in Redondo Beach. When we entered we attracted trendy B& W decos all around of the restaurant. By the entrance was an open kitchen. We sat by the entrance and studied the menu written in all English. Ordered Curry Bolognese pasta and Wagu Bolognese Pasta. I had garlic shrimp pasta which was super tasty! We all said we never had this kind of noodles before! It was not aldante but similar style, not much of sauce mingled with pasta also. Can taste noodle itself which was very unique! Very special place for a very special pasta!

Yelp
Mentaiko pasta was a hit. If you think you won't like uni, at least try the uni pasta here, you'll love it. If you don't like pasta, don't come here though. We loved the collab with the local brewery, loved the rice lager from Japonica. Heard that the wait was impossible here but we put our name down, went to Fox Den next door and our table was ready before we knew it, within 30 minutes. Parking is great, plenty of street parking and there's a shared lot next to the restaurant which fills up pretty fast. Service was great, very friendly! Try it!!!

Yelp
We were greeted by Diana who also served our table. We ordered the Salmon Alfredo, Uni pasta, and the Mentaiko. The Alfredo could've used a little bit more seasoning and the other pastas are good and you can add protein which is a great option. Big shout out to Diana who was such a gem the whole time. Great customer service and personality overall!

Yelp
Came on a Wednesday evening a little before 6pm~ got sat within 5 minutes. Loved the cute interior and loved my view of the sky from my table! Uni pasta with black truffle oil - 3/5: can taste a hint of uni & a hint of truffle but not enough to be worth almost $30. I felt it wasn't creamy enough nor flavorful enough. Bolognese - 3/5: not your typical bolognese I would say. I'm just used to the extra saucy typa bolognese so it just didn't cut it for me. It was meaty but a bit drier & bland for my taste. Happened to catch the tail end of HH so we had $2 off my glass of wine and $3 off a beer which was a pleasant surprise :) Will I be back? Mm.. I'll maybe give it another try several months later. For the price point, I can't justify it. I grew up eating at Spoon House and they just know how to do right it with a fair price. I have faith Unico will work out the kinks tho On another note: shoutout to Diana for being such a sweet & hospitable server! She was very knowledgeable and attentive 10/10 :)

Yelp
Fantastic service and amazing food. Our server, Dennis, was incredibly attentive and added to the great atmosphere of this place. I can't wait to come back to this place!
