I was really excited to try Unidos after discovering them on Instagram I visited spain a couple of years ago and loved the tapas I had in Barcelona! I chose Unidos to celebrate my birthday with a close friend and made a table reservation in advance.
We arrived only about 3–4 minutes late due to difficult parking (we ended up using valet). The space itself is beautiful and lively, but unfortunately the experience quickly became unpleasant.
We ordered a generous amount of food charcuterie with jamón, croquetas, pan con tomate, fries, patas bravas, glasses of wine, and dessert so we weren’t lingering without ordering. However, once the food started coming out, everything felt extremely rushed. Servers repeatedly came by asking to clear plates even when there was still food on them, often just minutes after a dish was placed down, while we were actively eating. Several times, servers and our server approached the table and already had their hands on the plates while asking if they could take them away, despite visible food still on the plate and us actively eating. This happened multiple times and made it impossible to relax, talk, or enjoy the meal.
Toward the end of our meal, a server came over and asked if he could take my plate while I still had patatas bravas on it and was still eating. At that point, I felt so flustered and pressured that I told him, “Don’t worry, we’re leaving right now.” That’s how rushed and unwelcome the experience had become especially disappointing during a birthday celebration.
We were only there for about 1 hour and 20 minutes total, and a significant portion of that time was spent waiting for food to arrive. Despite that, we were constantly asked if we were ready for the check, which made it feel like they were trying to push us out rather than let us enjoy the meal we reserved and paid for.
I understand the restaurant was busy and that people were waiting, but if there’s a strict time limit for tables, that should be communicated upfront. Repeatedly asking guests to clear plates and leave while they’re still eating comes across as rude and uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, this experience was nothing like the welcoming, relaxed tapas culture I experienced in Spain. Because of how rushed and uncomfortable we felt, I won’t be returning.
